    Mohican Adventures Campground and Cabins

    Family Friendly

Great campground with lots to do! RV sites are a little small and close together, but comes with a picnic table and fire pit. There are back in and pull through RV spots - along with nice shady spots for rent camping. Cabins are also available. Great spot to camp if interested in tubing/canoeing/kayaking down Mohican river. When you arrive everyone in the vehicle checks in, and then someone on a golf cart takes you to your spot. Campground has an indoor pool and hot tub. Also has pond with paddle boards and paddle boats that need to be reserved at additional cost. Quite a few playgrounds available and mountain bike trails. Small creek runs along the campground. All guests are given a wrist band that gives you a discount at the Trails End restaurant and at Mohican Adventures across the street.

    Toledo East-Stony Ridge KOA

    Small basic campground near Toledo

Our site was $59.95 a night.

We were in Site# 504. We had Full hook- up with a gravel pull-through.
We travel towing a 14 foot trailer and were able to fit both in our pull through site along with my jeep. The site was easy to level. We were charged $25 additional for my jeep since we were towing the trailer. We also were charged $10 because we arrived at 1:25 PM and check-in is at 2 PM. The park was close to empty so arriving early was not an inconvenience. We drove ourselves to our spot (no escort).

Our site was shaded with lots of trees. This was a smaller lot with our neighbors fairly close.

The lot comes with a concrete patio with picnic table and fire ring. They sell wood for $6 a bundle.

There is free WiFi, although not strong. They offer Cable TV and there are many channels.

There is not a community outdoor kitchen or community fire pit.

They pickup your garbage at your site daily before noon.

You are allowed to ride personal golf carts. They do not provide golf cart rentals. There is really not a need to have a Golf cart because it is a smaller campground.

They do have a Swimming pool but it is currently closed due to maintenance (although it just looked closed- no signs of maintenance being done).

There is a Playground. They also offer horseshoes, corn hole, giant jinga.

They have a basic general store. There are not scheduled activities for kids.

There is not a snack bar/restaurant on site.

The streets are gravel so not great for riding bikes. This is an RV park with tent camping and cabins to rent.

They have one shower house. The shower house has individual bathrooms with your own sink, shower, toilet. These are kept very clean.

There is a laundry facility. It is a cash only facility, but they have a change machine. There are approximately 4 washers and 4 dryers. It is approximately $2.50 to wash and $2.50 to dry a load.

They have a small fenced in dog park.

There isn’t tons to doin the actual city of Perryville. But Toledo is a 20 minute drive.

    Mohican State Park Campground

    Winter Time But No Snow

We stayed on a full hook up site (turned off for the season) that had a nice concrete level pad. There was also a nice side pad that kept our chairs clean. A little further back in the campground to be close to the shower house that was open. Then found out that comfort station next to us was open - nice! Also close the water which was full and rushing all weekend.

The camp store was open on the weekend and the staff was nice to chat with. They had wood, but it was slab cut which doesn’t burn very well. We decided against it. Lots of snacks and other items still available.

Some sites were really close to the water, almost too close as the water flooded a few spots. The campground is nice to walk if you like to get in a little workout. They also have small camper cabins and them much bigger cabins which a few are pet friendly.

We went on a hike by the covered bridge to one of the waterfalls. Lots of trials to choose from.

    Mohican State Park Campground

    Unexpected Treat in Central Ohio

As part of a nearly 200-mile bikepacking ride, this was our last stop! We spent 2 nights in their "Class B" area down in the Mohican River Valley and loved it.

The oddly named “Class A” camping area offers everything from full-hook up camping slots for campers large and small, as well as just electric sites and 10 “walk-in” primitive sites, and cabins -- all of which are reservable. This area has all the bells and whistles of a modern campground with an environmental learning center, a nice outdoor pool, clean showers and bathrooms, an extensive playground and hiking and mountain biking trails right out the front door.

The “Class B” area offers 25 primitive sites on a first-come, first-served basis. It is almost 6 miles by road from the “A” services, but only a 2-mile flatish hike along the river trail. At these sites, there are only pit toilets and a water pump. Each site has a picnic table and a small fire ring. There is also a large group camping area just a few miles away from the primitive “Class B” area.

Tubing and canoeing are available within the park, but there are also several canoe outfitters in the area which provide rental / pick up services. The sheer number of these businesses makes me think that summer time can be crowded!!

Beautiful shaded trails meander all throughout the park and they boast some of the most challenging mountain biking in the mid-west, so read your trail maps. Hiking, equestrian and winter snowmobile trails also offer some great opportunities to get out and stretch your legs throughout the year. There is also a safe and convenient, bike lane / bike path into nearby Loudonville, which has a small grocery story and the usual fast-food restaurants.

Note: The only reason why this park didn't get a 5 star was due to their customer service. It was absolutely lousy, confusing, and the young folks working behind the counter acted as if they didn't want to be there and/or hadn't been trained. We almost left, but since we had cycled 42 miles to get there that day, we chose to stay and enjoyed our time in their Class B sites.

    Camp Sandusky

    Very nice campgrounds!

There is so much structure and order to this campground! The grounds are laid out so nicely! One big circle with cross roads all along the way. You can camp however you'd like too! They have RV sites, tent sites and cabins. All mixed in together so you can travel with all your favorite campers. They do breakfast every morning in the front pavilion for $4.50 (all you can eat pancakes, 1 sausage and coffee) I haven't tried it yet, but its certainly popular. Laundry is open 24 hours a day and in an open area. Not the biggest fan of that due to needing to do laundry in the rain. Bathrooms are clean and standard. Row of toilet stalls and showers in a separate room. They have a stellar playground area, I don't have kids but even I was drawn to wanting to play on it. Very pet friendly around here. Close to downtown, near Cedar Point and all the other attractions over here. They have 2 pools, one being heated. We haven't had a bad rain storm while we're here but you can tell by the ground of our spot its going to be bad and super muddy. All in all this campground is pretty awesome.

    Lighthouse Point at Cedar Point

    Immaculate!

Absolutely beautiful RV park! Gorgeous views of Lake Erie and walking distance to the gate of Cedar Point. Beautiful landscaping and very clean. Staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. Good little camp store with reasonable(ish) prices. Too chilly to swim but the pool looks nice. Bathhouses are updated, clean and very nice, but pretty far from about half of the sites. One section has premium sites with upgraded grills and fire pits and crazy good lake views. The regular sites are still well landscaped and each have a grill and an extra long picnic table, but no fire pit. You can bring your own fire pit if your site doesn't have one. No bikes or golf carts allowed on the grounds, but there are Cedar Point buses available day & night as well as rickshaws during the day. Until now I have held Disney World's Fort Wilderness as the penultimate place for camping but they could learn a few things from Cedar Point! We stayed five nights in a pull through sites, #231. I would love to snag a premium site for our next trip but it may be difficult because they allow you to book up five years in advance!

    Malabar Farm State Park Campground

    Rustic

I found Malabar Farm in Lucas, OH on my way home from Mom’s house. Never heard of it before and I have been this way for over 20 years now. Louis Bromfield was a conservationist and among many other things (including winning a Pulitzer) he was in the forefront of organic and self-sustaining gardening. This place is amazing! ( and would be an excellent home schoolers camping trip!) Not your typical going hiking kinda campground (there are trails but they are not “major”) you come here to step away from city life and tour a working farm. Ohio countryside at its best. Primitive camping with a gravel parking pad and water, fire ring, picnic table and hitching post. No reservations, this is a first come campground. There’s also a small rentable cabin open year round. Definitely worth a visit and very family oriented events. ( your teenager will roll their eyes at you but probably secretly enjoy the visit)

    Mohican State Park Campground

    Great park

This is a great state park campground. We stayed at an electric site. The spots are decent sized, plenty of restrooms, pool, playground and camp store that sells ice cream! Tubing down the creek next to the campground was super cool too. Cabins looked very nice and secluded. We hiked to the swinging bridge which was newly dedicated (May 2021).

    Kelleys Island State Park Campground

    Vacation island campground

To reach Kelley's Island, you have to take the only ferry. Our round trip roundtrip fare for 3 adults and a vehicle was a around $100. It's around 25 mins across to the island. The island has about 500 full time residents. The road that runs up the center of the island, Division Street, starts a little west of the ferry stop and ends at the State Park. There are some small shops, restaurants, miniature golf, ice cream and fudge shops. There are golf cart rentals and lots of bikers and walkers on the island. You could walk the

The state park was beautiful. Filled with boaters, families and RVers. The bathrooms were clean, the park sold firewood and ice. There was an ice cream shop across from the entrance. Our tent spot was level. Quiet hours started at 11 pm. Unfortunately, people ignored it. I kept hoping the camp host would walk around and say something. Someone's car alarm went off at 5 am and the dogs got up and our day started. I would recommend watching the sunrise from the park benches at the water's edge. It was beautiful.

There were places to put your kayaks in as well as a boat launch by the park. People were fishing off the jetting that protects the swimming area.

It will get chilly at night, the sites on the edge of the water were windier. And bring your bug spray. Beautiful island, fun brewery on the island, sites are crowded. I would easily head back.

Guide to Norwalk

Cabin camping near Norwalk, Ohio provides access to Lake Erie's south shore recreational opportunities. Most campgrounds in this region lie between 10-30 miles from Norwalk at elevations ranging from 580-720 feet above sea level. The area experiences four distinct seasons with summer daytime temperatures averaging 75-85°F, ideal for water activities on Lake Erie's southern basin.

What to do

Beach access: East Harbor State Park Campground offers direct access to Lake Erie beaches with shallow swimming areas. "I enjoy this campground because there are lots of great spots to choose from. I love the ability to walk or bike to the beach," notes Jaclyn B. The park includes trails for evening wildlife observation.

Island exploration: Book accommodations at Kelleys Island State Park Campground for island adventures accessed via ferry. "The island itself provides loads of entertainment at a minimal price making the 20 minute ferry trip worth it," reports Sarah H. The island features glacial grooves, hiking trails, and waterfront camping.

Boating options: Many cabin locations around Sandusky Bay provide boat rentals for exploring Lake Erie. "Canoes and kayaks are available for renting. Many musicians set up camp and would jam out for some live evening music," writes Kimberly C. about Findley State Park. Boat rental fees typically range from $20-$45 per hour depending on vessel type.

What campers like

Swimming facilities: Crystal Rock Campground maintains pool facilities close to cabin accommodations. "The campground was pretty full but was so quiet! We enjoyed our stay & would go again," shares Stacey S. Swimming options include both pool facilities and natural swimming areas depending on location.

Playground areas: Family cabins at Sandusky-Bayshore KOA feature access to modern play equipment. "Nice playground with jumping pillow. Very Friendly staff. Nice list of Craft activities," notes Joseph S. Many campgrounds organize scheduled weekend activities for children during summer months.

Site selection: Choose cabin locations carefully for maximum privacy or lake views. "The key is site selection at East Harbor...we happened to be in section C which was a newer section of the park," advises Mark S. Corner sites and sites with natural barriers provide more separation from neighboring cabins.

What you should know

Seasonal hours: Many cabin properties operate with limited schedules. "This campground is right off of interstate 80, and couldn't be easier to get to! As close as it is, there isn't much road noise," notes Tracey S. about Milan Travel Park. Most operations run April through October with limited winter availability.

Reservation requirements: Book cabins 3-6 months in advance for summer weekends. "If you're planning a holiday weekend you need to book 6 months in advance," warns Jeffrey L. about Findley State Park. State park cabin reservations open exactly 6 months before arrival date.

Environmental factors: Prepare for seasonal insects in wooded cabin areas. "Lots of bugs. Bring the spray. The people are very friendly. Has a lot of different options for camping," suggests Jenn B. about Crystal Rock Campground. Summer months require extra precautions for ticks and mosquitoes.

Tips for camping with families

Entertainment options: Camp Sandusky offers multiple family amenities near cabin units. "Amenities for kids: pool, bunnies to feed, park, pedal cars to rent," shares Korinne K. Daily activity schedules during summer months typically include crafts and organized games.

Budget planning: Many properties offer all-you-can-eat breakfast options. "They do breakfast every morning in the front pavilion for $4.50 (all you can eat pancakes, 1 sausage and coffee)," reports Sammii D. about Camp Sandusky. Consider meal options when comparing cabin rental costs across properties.

Bathroom facilities: Evaluate bathroom proximity when booking cabin sites. "Clean bathrooms. Full hookups available. My kids had a blast," writes Angela C. about Sandusky-Bayshore KOA. Non-plumbed cabins require planning for bathroom access, especially with younger children.

Tips from RVers

Site specifications: Lighthouse Point at Cedar Point offers premium cabin options with concrete pads. "Concrete pads. Level! Full hookups were simple to use. The pool area was super clean. One of the thinks I liked best was there was a garbage can on every site," reports Chuck E. Cabin sites typically have 30-50 amp electrical service.

Proximity advantages: Consider travel time to attractions when selecting cabin locations. "This campground is within a 15 minute drive to Cedar Point and the price point is much more affordable then the campground at Cedar Point," notes Korinne K. about Camp Sandusky. Distance to main highways affects noise levels at cabin sites.

Seasonal timing: Visit during spring or fall for fewer crowds. "Stayed just one night on our way up to the UP. Was relatively quite as it was midweek in May. Could get busy and sites are close together but no one was around," writes Cameron H. about East Harbor State Park. Shoulder season visitors enjoy reduced rates and more availability.
