    SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Several RV parks near Mentor, Ohio provide varying amenities for motorhome travelers. Sun Retreats Geneva on the Lake operates seasonally from May 1 to October 15 with full hookup sites including 50-amp service, water, and sewer connections. Kenisee's Grand River Campground in Geneva features spacious RV sites with electric, water and sewer hookups, accommodating big rigs with easy access. Thousand Trails Kenisee Lake in Jefferson remains open from late April through October with both back-in and pull-through sites. Punderson State Park Campground offers limited full hookups with most sites having only 15-20 amp service. "The lots are not even close to level. You will need a lot of blocks to get close to level. Saw one RV with auto levelers with his tire about foot off the ground."

Most RV parks in the area require advance reservations, particularly during summer months and fall foliage season. Dump stations are available at Sun Retreats Geneva on the Lake, Kenisee's Grand River, and Perry Township Park, though the latter offers only 30-amp electric hookups with no water connections at sites. Cell service varies throughout the region with AT&T reported working well at Punderson State Park. Geneva State Park provides paved sites that are generally level with cement pads, though drainage can be problematic during heavy rainfall. Pet policies differ between parks—most allow pets but may have restrictions. Weather considerations include potential muddy conditions during spring and fall, while summer temperatures can reach the 90s, making parks with swimming pools particularly attractive.

      Thompson/Grand River Valley KOA Holiday

      Happy Camping

Relax, breath, and camp. Perfect spot.

This Campground is quiet, full of fun, for families or older people. Beautiful area.
Many pull through lots, with patios. 50. 30. Full hookup, (sewer and Electric) back in, pull through, tent sites, cabins, teepees. Swimming pool, private bathrooms and showers. Fishing lake, swimming lake, trails. Children play areas. Basketball, bad mitten/volleyball, Dog wash, dog parks (2), private fenced dog sites. (2)- pull through site. Golf cart rentals, and seasonal sites that are being updated, but all are decorated nicely, and kept up.
KOA is revamping some of this campground. Work in progress, but awesome stay.

      Thousand Trails Kenisee Lake

Great spacious park with 2 lakes!

Kenisee Lake RV Resort Thousand Trails in Jefferson, Ohio is a another great Thousand Trails park! This park is very large and has a park-like setting with 2 lakes. There is fishing on the lakes and the campground has rowboats available to use. They have all the amenities a family could want such as swimming pool, playground, mini-golf, and more! The staff is friendly and very accommodating. Kenisee Lake has 30 and 50 amp FHU back-in and pull-through sites. The only downside is the internet which is lacking in this area. We have really enjoyed our stay here and will be returning! 👍🏻😬

Sun Retreats Geneva on the Lake

It's Easy to Love this Campground

As newbies to all things RV, we needed a place in Ohio to break in our new travel trailer. Indian Creek is family and pet friendly with all the amenities and even a great lookout spot across the street where you can take in a Lake Erie sunset. We loved the clean bathrooms and appreciated the staff's effort to maintain services while encouraging social distancing. All of their COVID-19 policies were well spelled out online and in signage across the resort so that you knew what to expect. All of the staff wore masks and bathrooms were cleaned often. Some of their usual events and programs were unavailable but they offered craft kits for children to pick up and do at their own campsite in lieu of the usual program. We enjoyed their beautiful put-put course and ice cream stand. They did not allow outside visitors in the resort. The only thing that threw us off was that the bathhouses were closed at night and we didn't know that until we tried to use them. The resort is expanding and adding new sites. They are planting lots of trees (it looked like one at each site) so the resort should become more park-like and less parking lot as they grow. We really liked the back-in sites with water and electric hookups because they were larger and more private and wooded. The fire ring was so easy to cook on that now I'm spoiled! The camp store/gas station was convenient and well stocked with camping supplies. Golf carts are available to rent if you need them to navigate this huge park. We rode our bikes instead. There is a township park just down the road towards Geneva-on-the-Lake proper that we used to spend some leisure and exercise time near the lake. We look forward to visiting this RV resort again in the future!

      Outstanding site in great campground

Stayed on a premium patio site and loved it. The campground and staff were awesome. Level site, great hook ups, awesome WiFi and cable. Clean facilities, 3 lakes (one with a fishing pier), 2 dog parks, and super friendly staff. 30 min to Cleveland. Walmart, gas stations and restaurants within 5 miles. Just off Ohio Turnpike, but can't hear it. Definitely recommend this KOA

      Mosquito Lake State Park Campground

Beautiful campground, choose your site wisely

When we arrived, we checked in at the camp office. The ladies there were very kind. The roads through the campground are wide enough for two-way traffic and nicely paved.

This is a beautiful, heavily treed campground. Even on Memorial Day weekend with lots of people, the park was very peaceful. The sounds of birds permeate the air round the clock. Chipmunks run amok. They’re just so cute.

We booked site 56 for our 39’ fifth wheel. As soon as we pulled up, we knew there was no way we’d fit even though the reservation site said it would accommodate a 40’ rig. The camp hosts happened to be passing by as we were surveying the site. They were very helpful redirecting us to a nearby site that would be more suitable. FYI, sites 55 and 56 have deep culverts on either side. One wrong turn and you’re going to have a problem. The majority of sites along our road were just wide enough to keep the tires out of the dirt, but not wide enough for the stairs to land on asphalt. If you have a motorhome or other wide-bodied rig, like an Alliance Paradigm, I would recommend choosing one of the sites on the loop around the playground. Those are better suited for newer big rigs.

TIP…the line at the dump station is long on the holiday weekends. Plan accordingly.

      West Branch State Park Campground

      Love the Lake!

This state park has a lot to offer with the highlight being a large 2,650-lake that appeals to fishermen, boaters, and swimmers. The park is over 5,000 acres and not only has camping but hiking, volleyball, fishing, playgrounds, picnicking, hunting, horseback riding, and more.

The campground is divided into three loops with nearly 200 sites. Campsites include those with full hook-up (50 amp), electric only (50 amp), and some with no electric. This campground is suitable for everything from large RVs to tents. Sites and roads are paved and each site has a picnic table and fire pit. In loops where there is no water directly at the site, water spigots are scattered throughout. The restroom/bathhouses in our loop were really nice, modern, clean, and had laundry facilities which is a real plus at a state park campground. Campsites can be reserved online up to six months in advance. Since we were here in April, the campground was practically empty and getting a site was no problem. But, if you want one of the 29 full hook-up sites in the summer, you better book early.

We really enjoyed the hiking trails and being able to leave our campsite and be right on the trails. There are approximately 12 miles of hiking trails and an additional 20 miles that are open to horses and snowmobiles. (Be aware that hunting is permitted in certain areas.)

The park is about 15 miles from Cuyahoga Valley National Park which is a fantastic place to explore with a lot going on for the whole family! If you are interested in football, the National Football Hall of Fame is just down the road in Canton. The town of Hudson has a pretty, historic downtown with a fun old soda fountain.

We would definitely stay at this campground again. It was a perfect place to stay while visiting family in the nearby town of Hudson. Loved having a paved site with full hook-ups especially since there was a lot of rain while we were there. The lake was perfect for kayaking and had we been able to stay longer we would have spent more time on the water.

      Geneva State Park Campground

      Monster Campsites!

This park has huge campsites ! The pads are paved and they left a section of trees/woods behind each site to provide some privacy between neighbors. The bathrooms are very clean and the staff were helpful and friendly. The park is directly across the road from the paved bike trail which leads to the beach, marina, lodge and strip area. The trail is dog friendly but the beach is not. The campground is also pet friendly.

      Great stop for one night

Great campground on the smaller side, so not too much traffic driving around. Our site was gravel and fairly unlevel. Did our best to level it out but still have water collecting to the left. We lucked out and got a pull through last minute.

Water pressure was low. ATT cell coverage was full. Lots of shade so couldn’t use our Starlink internet but the campground internet was great. Even had video camera meetings on it while working in the morning.

Worth noting we were having some rig problems (slide out stuck in) and after calling four local places not one of them returned our calls. Only stayed the one night because we need to move on to get this fixed.

      Punderson State Park Campground

      Excellent Park & Campground!

We have just returned from our first stay at Punderson and have no complaints! Sites are smallish, but clean, mostly level and well kept, as is the camping area in general. There are NO pull-through sites I am aware of. Had a picnic with nearby family at one of the pavilions… again, neat and clean and well taken care of. Very quiet at night, which is something we look for. Firewood for sale on site was a bit pricey, but that’s to be expected. Only complaint was lack of strong WIFI, but we have our own uplink. Will definitely return!

    Guide to Mentor

Northeastern Ohio's lakeside region offers several options for recreational vehicle enthusiasts seeking campgrounds near Mentor. The area sits at elevations between 600-1,200 feet with a humid continental climate featuring warm summers and cold, snowy winters. Camping facilities near Lake Erie typically operate seasonally from April through October due to harsh winter conditions.

    What to do

Fishing opportunities: The Farm at Grand River provides creek-side camping where visitors can enjoy the relaxing sound of flowing water. One camper noted, "There aren't many places you can setup camp right by the river, but the Farm at Grand River has a great spot for those who love the relaxing sound of water nearby."

Water activities: Kool Lakes Family RV Park features both swimming and fishing lakes. One visitor reported: "Our kids age 4 and 8 fished from sun up Saturday to about noon and then sporadically after that throughout the day. That night we hunted large bull frogs. All catch and release."

Disc golf and outdoor sports: Located within Punderson State Park, the disc golf course offers an additional recreational option for campers. A recent visitor mentioned: "Opportunities for disc golf, archery range, canoing/kayaking/row boats, swimming (no lifeguard) and golf."

    What campers like

Lake views: Perry Township Park offers unobstructed views of Lake Erie with sites positioned near the shoreline. A camper shared: "Got in after dinner and luckily we were just car camping, because we got (in our opinion) the best site there! 23 has a great shot of the lake, nice cinder blocks built up to block any wind from the fire pit."

Spacious sites: Hidden Lakes Family Campground provides large, well-spaced camping areas. One reviewer stated: "Our site was lakeside and was probably the largest campsite I ever stayed in. Some areas where not as big, especially the pull through sites toward the front, but most of the sites on the back side were large."

Campground activities: Many local campgrounds offer organized events and recreational facilities. A visitor to Kenisee's Grand River Campground remarked: "It's a great place with a lot of events and entertainment for family's. Multiple fishing ponds, Friday night bingo, bands, fishing tournament for kids, duck race, Christmas in July and many other activities."

    What you should know

Seasonal operations: Most campgrounds in the region operate within specific date ranges. For example, Thousand Trails Kenisee Lake runs from "April 27 to October 23" while Kool Lakes Family RV Park operates from "May 1 - Oct 15."

Site leveling challenges: Site terrain varies significantly between campgrounds. At Punderson State Park Campground, campers should prepare for uneven ground as one reviewer mentioned: "The sites greatly very on size and flatness so make sure you look at the pictures of the site before you book some are basically the parking pad and a fire ring, some are big and flat some are on an incline."

Firewood restrictions: Some campgrounds enforce strict firewood policies. A Hidden Lakes Family Campground visitor noted: "They don't allow outside firewood and your have to pay $12 a bundle for theirs. This adds some cost to the stay, thought I'm not sure how much they enforce it."

    Tips for camping with families

Farm experiences: The Farm at Grand River offers unique agricultural interactions for children. A parent shared: "My 6 year old daughter lived her farm animal dream life for a week! Swimming options: Many campgrounds near Mentor feature swimming facilities. At Roundup Lake RV Resort, "campsites surround a sizable lake which boasts inflatables as well as enough room for self-propelled water crafts (i.e. kayaks, paddleboards, etc)."

    Tips from RVers

A working camper noted: "Kenisee Lake RV Campground is a wonderful place to work from remotely if you have an external antenna to cellular internet. The campground is clean with plenty of open space and trails."

Hookup variations: RV sites across different campgrounds offer varied utility connections. Roundup Lake RV Resort provides "30 and 50 amp FHU back-in and pull-through sites," while a visitor to Indian Creek RV Resort (Sun Retreats Geneva on the Lake) mentioned: "Not all sites are full hookup and 50 Amp. The street lights suck as they fully illuminated our sites."

Site spacing considerations: Campground layouts affect privacy levels. At Indian Creek RV Resort, one camper observed the property is "expanding and adding new sites. They are planting lots of trees (it looked like one at each site) so the resort should become more park-like and less parking lot as they grow."
