Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Magnolia, OH

Atwood Lake Park Campground welcomes pets on leash throughout its 500+ camping sites, offering full-hookup RV spaces, primitive tent areas, and pet-friendly cabins. The campground features concrete pads with ample yard space for pets to enjoy while staying connected to their owners. Sites along the lakefront provide scenic views and easy water access for dogs that enjoy swimming. Pets must be supervised at all times and owners are expected to clean up after their animals. Canton/East Sparta KOA Holiday (Bear Creek Ranch) maintains similar pet-friendly policies with the added benefit of horseback riding opportunities on site. Clean bathrooms and shower facilities at these campgrounds ensure comfortable stays for both pets and their owners. The well-maintained grounds at Atwood Lake Park include large play areas where leashed pets can join their families for outdoor recreation.

Memory Park Campground's primitive sites provide a quieter experience for camping with dogs, with enough distance between campsites that barking rarely disturbs neighbors. Hiking trails throughout the region accommodate leashed pets, with ample opportunities to explore wooded areas and lakeshores. Sites at Memory Park are shaded with plenty of trees for hammock hanging and natural boundaries between camping areas. Seasonal considerations include checking for ticks after trail walks, particularly during summer months. Atwood Lake offers swimming opportunities where dogs can cool off, though pets should be kept away from designated human swimming beaches. Local camping supply stores in nearby towns provide emergency pet supplies and food if needed. Sites fill quickly during peak seasons, especially the lakefront locations that offer the best access for pets that enjoy water activities. The pet-friendly nature of these campgrounds contributes to the family-oriented atmosphere, with many seasonal campers returning year after year with their four-legged companions.

    Outstanding site in great campground

Stayed on a premium patio site and loved it. The campground and staff were awesome. Level site, great hook ups, awesome WiFi and cable. Clean facilities, 3 lakes (one with a fishing pier), 2 dog parks, and super friendly staff. 30 min to Cleveland. Walmart, gas stations and restaurants within 5 miles. Just off Ohio Turnpike, but can't hear it. Definitely recommend this KOA

    Silver Springs Campground

Great for the price and location

Stayed here to be close to the NP and it is a great little campground for a reasonable price. Big dog park with pond on the other side of the park. Sites are uneven but my favorite part was the wooded path.

    Silver Springs Campground

    Nice campground near Cuyahoga

We were in the area exploring Cuyahoga Nat Park and found Silver Springs. It was 18$ for a site with electric hook ups (15$ if you are a Stow resident) No option for no paying less for no hook-up camping. Water close by and port a pottie style bathrooms close to the camp sites. There are flush toilets a walk away but we didn’t use them. Sites are big and grassy but not super level. Wasn’t a big issue for us but could be for a bigger camper. The campground was calm and quiet. Lots of trails close by. Dog park down the street as well as a play ground and fishing pond! We had a great few days staying here and will be back if we are even passing thru Stow again.

    Silver Springs Campground

    Lots of options!

We really loved this little spot! It appealed to all of what we were looking for, our camp host was awesome. There was even a dog park within walking distance- a lot of trails to explore too. No showers and the Porto potties weren't the cleanest... But they were functional. Very hospitable locals- we were invited to a square dancing party that evening in the park! Very comfy and safe.

    Salt Fork State Park Campground

The right side of the fork

Dog park!! and right on the lake!! Found this by mistake on our way out, and the dogs loved it. Access to lake, a beach, well fenced. I would give Salt Fork SP extra stars for this one, especially if there were campsites co-located.

Camp ground is easily accessible being just 6 miles from I70, leaving the convenience of Cambridge and city amenities close by while allowing for great trails and solitude. Stayed in campground A, and the front end has little shade, but being here in autumn was perfect for lots of sunshine on site. Sites with trees for tree tents is minimal. Drinking fountains are dispersed fairly frequently throughout campground, but RV hookups with water were limited during my stay. Shower houses and comfort houses all have flushers and sinks.

TICK WARNING!!!! After a morning hike down wooded Trail, we spent A LONG TIME pulling ticks from dogs...even though the temps were in the 30's overnight and everyone was treated with flea & tick protection.

    Silver Springs Campground

    Great parking

The bathrooms are portojons and there are no showers, however there is THE best dog park I have ever seen in this area. So my dogs loved this campground more than me and that was worth it. It was dark enough to see a space station cross the sky at night. The camping spaces are rather close, but so many people want to camp there, because of its proximity to everything amazing.

Guide to Magnolia

Pet-friendly campground sites near Magnolia, Ohio offer diverse camping experiences within the rolling hills of eastern Ohio, situated approximately 950 feet above sea level. The region features a mix of wooded terrain and lakefront properties with seasonal considerations including humid summers averaging 80°F and winter temperatures that can drop below freezing. Most campgrounds in the area operate primarily between April and October, though some offer year-round accommodations.

What to do

Horseback riding opportunities: Canton/East Sparta KOA Holiday features on-site horseback riding trails that families particularly enjoy. "This is our favorite KOA! I have 4 kids and return at least 1x per year. Great family owned KOA. Horseback riding on site," notes Lisa D., highlighting the unique activity that sets this campground apart from others in the area.

Lake activities: The swimming lake at Woods Tall Timber Resort provides a clean, family-friendly environment for cooling off. According to Ashley S., "We have never experienced so much fun all in one place, from the clean swimming lake, to ziplining, to rv camping, and we'll kept bath houses." The lake maintains water quality standards that make it an excellent alternative to beach swimming areas that sometimes restrict pets.

Nature exploration: Towpath Trail Peace Park offers historically significant hiking opportunities along Ohio's canal system. "This might sound a little over-romantic, but for those who have ever dreamed about the great hiking pilgrimages in Europe, even the Appalachian trail here in the states, the towpath trail is Ohio's answer for historically-rooted hiking," explains Brannon M. about this primitive camping site that welcomes pets.

What campers like

Level, concrete camping pads: Andrea F. appreciates the well-designed sites at Atwood Lake Park, noting, "The site have large concrete pads with full hookups. They offer a nice laundry facility and also a small camp store. They have several hiking trails and a fire tower that's fun to climb." The park maintains over 500 sites with standardized amenities that accommodate a range of camping styles.

Private, wooded sites: Memory Park Campground offers secluded camping experiences with natural boundaries between sites. "We stayed in Cousins Cove. Everyone was raving about the newlyweds site so we walked over. That particular spot had a great fishing spot. Cousins Cove had plenty of shade and was close enough to the portable toilet that it wasn't inconvenient, but far enough to have to worry about smells or run off," reports Zac C. about this primitive camping location.

Resort amenities: Family-oriented activities extend beyond basic camping at Woods Tall Timber Resort. "WTTR is our families favorite place to be during camping season in Ohio. It has everything you can imagine, it's safe and CLEAN! We couldn't recommend a resort more than this one," shares Ashley S. The resort maintains strict cleanliness standards that appeal to campers with pets.

What you should know

Site selection considerations: At Pride Valley Campground, site selection significantly impacts experience quality. Jacci W. reports, "Nice small campground.. relaxing, great wooded views .. lake for swimming. Has full hook ups (W/E/S). Sights are pretty level, are newer so gravel still settling." However, other reviewers note facility maintenance concerns, suggesting requesting sites furthest from bathroom facilities.

Seasonal water quality: Lake conditions vary throughout the camping season, with algae becoming more common in late summer. Fred R. notes about Atwood Lake Park, "Nice to see sailboats on the lake. All new camping spots with full hookup. Grass is coming in nicely. Kids love the playgrounds and being able to bike or scoot all around. Shower house's are superb. Great fishing. Beach needs some attention."

Bathroom facility distribution: Campground layouts often place bathrooms centrally rather than distributed throughout. Scott H. observes at Pride Valley, "Bathroom facilities are poor and not well-maintained, but count as (barely) serviceable. Make sure to bring sandals so as not to step in the animal shit that covers the floors of the restrooms."

Tips for camping with families

Swimming options: Clay's Resort Jellystone Park offers structured swimming environments suitable for multiple age groups. "We decided to stay after plenty of referrals from friends and family. Pleasantly surprised with how clean everything was. The employees were also super kind. The lake was virtually algae free, and even during this pandemic, it didn't feel over crowded at any point," shares Chuck E. about this family-focused campground.

Kid-friendly programming: Scheduled activities provide entertainment options beyond standard outdoor recreation. Leslie C. shares about Atwood Lake Park, "My kids and I have been coming to Atwood for the last 10 years. We look forward to it every summer. The people are friendly and there is always something to do!!"

Campsite location considerations: Sites near recreation areas offer convenience but may experience higher noise levels. Joe F. advises, "Overall we had fun there and made best of it... Remember to put alcohol in cups. We did search out best spots here and they're at the tip of the peninsula. Largest lots I saw AND there right on the water!!"

Tips from RVers

Leveling requirements: RVers should prepare for variable site conditions even at developed campgrounds. Chuck E. notes, "I stayed on site LV27. Great location, but not even close to level. Seemed to be the only site with this issue."

Hookup accessibility: Full-service sites may have different hookup placements requiring extended hoses or cables. Susan S. recommends Atwood Lake Park's H loop, saying, "The H campground loops are full hookups, some right on the water. Electric, and primitive sites too. Pets welcome on a leash, a beach and hikng also. Docks available 50' from out waterfront lot."

Off-season considerations: Campground maintenance schedules impact facility availability. Chelsea M. advises about Clay's Resort, "Highly recommend close proximity to bathrooms and showers. Spacious! Concrete slab with full hookup and straw instead of mud/grass. The bathrooms are very well cleaned and maintained."
