Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Fayette, OH

Harrison Lake State Park Campground accommodates pets at all sites with a dedicated dog beach for water-loving canines. Campers with dogs enjoy spacious, level sites that provide ample room for tethering pets while maintaining campsite comfort. The park enforces standard leash requirements throughout common areas, though pets may enjoy the designated swimming area off-leash. Fire rings with pea gravel surrounds make for clean pet areas even after rain. Both the North and South campgrounds accept pets, with the North campground offering larger, more private sites ideal for dogs that need more space. The park features clean, modern restrooms and shower facilities, though the non-electric tent areas use vault toilets. Sites are generally well-maintained with a mix of shaded and open options available.

The park offers a network of pet-friendly trails circling Harrison Lake, providing excellent exercise opportunities for dogs and their owners. While trail markings could be improved, the paths connect through wooded areas and alongside the shoreline. Dogs particularly enjoy the no-wake lake environment, which allows for calm swimming conditions at the dedicated dog beach. The surrounding rural setting provides quiet camping conditions, though some outer campsites back up to public roads with only split-rail fencing as separation. Other nearby pet-friendly options include Sauder Village Campground, where pets are welcome on spacious, level RV sites with full hookups. Seasonal availability varies by campground, with Harrison Lake open year-round while Sauder Village operates from mid-April through October. Wildlife encounters are minimal, making for safe pet exploration throughout the camping areas.

    Angola/Hogback Lake KOA Holiday

    Nice campground

I stayed at this place when it was B&B and it is now a KOA. Several new sites were added and the park appears to be much cleaner. The restrooms are nice and the camp personnel are friendly. There is a dog park for walking the dog but with so much driveway I just walk the dog around the park. They have several dog bag stations around the park to make clean up easy. There are 3 playgrounds and boat area on the lake. I believe you can rent boats to fish even though I never have. I will definitely stay here again.

    Holiday RV Campground

    Large RV Park

Nice Park Nice park for full timers. Large spots to accommodate big rigs and kids. Full hook ups. Cell service great with Verizon hotspot(22u, 20d, 38ms and AT&T cell(27d, 20u, 27ms). Playgrounds everywhere for the kids. Giant dog park and ponds. Pool was closed. Just needs more grass. Our spot was really patchy and resulted in a lot of mud. Great campground with polite and helpful staff. Don’t pass this one up.

    Harrison Lake State Park Campground

    Quiet place to get away

We have been here a few times. Really enjoy the secluded sites and the lake. It’s a small campground but it’s clean and quiet. Most sites don’t have water hookups but they do have electric. There isn’t much to do outside of the campground but there is a nice lake with canoe and kayak rentals. Very pet friendly and even has a dog beach.

    Monroe-Toledo North KOA

    Little overpriced to me

Sites and restrooms were alright, think it is ridiculous to pay extra each night for each pet and children, too many other campgrounds in our area that are more updated and reasonably priced.

Guide to Fayette

Dispersed camping options near Fayette, Ohio include several state parks and privately owned campgrounds within a 30-mile radius. The area sits on glacial till plains with elevations averaging 850 feet above sea level and features a mix of farmland and small lakes. Camping conditions vary seasonally with hot, humid summers reaching into the 80s and cold winters that occasionally drop below 20°F, making spring and fall the most comfortable camping seasons.

What to do

Fishing and water activities: Harrison Lake State Park Campground features a no-wake lake perfect for fishing. "The lake is nice for fishing, marginal for swimming. Great people at registration," notes Sue B. The park offers canoe and kayak rentals for exploring the calm waters.

Historic attractions: Sauder Village Campground provides easy access to living history exhibits. "The historical village is an easy 10 minute stroll and worth visiting!" says Lisa D. The village showcases blacksmithing, tinsmithing, and traditional crafts with demonstrations throughout the season from mid-April through October.

Star gazing: At Lake Hudson Recreation Area, the dark sky preserve designation offers exceptional night sky viewing. "The best part of this campground is the stars at night! This is a dark sky preserve campground and the stars are the show," shares Michelle M., who spotted several meteors during the Perseid meteor shower.

What campers like

Spacious, private sites: "The North Campground has larger sites spaced a bit apart to afford you some privacy (or at least as much as you can expect at a state park campground)," writes Ari A. about Harrison Lake State Park. Many campgrounds in the area offer tree-separated sites, particularly for campers with dogs needing more space.

Clean facilities: Loveberry's Funny Farm Campground receives praise for maintenance. "Very spacious sites, clean (you can see the owner Doug almost daily picking up what ever is out of place a tree branch, weed, or random lone trash)," according to Kary M.

Family-friendly activities: "We had a great time camping and trick-or-treating at this campground over the weekend... They always seemed to have some sort of activity going on from horseshoe tournaments to football games for the kids," Emily W. comments about Sunny's Shady Recreation Area. Many local campgrounds organize regular weekend events during peak season.

What you should know

Seasonal considerations: Most pet friendly campgrounds near Fayette operate with limited seasons. "Sauder Village operates from mid-April through October," while Sunny's Campground is available "April 28 to October 8."

Hookup variations: Water and electric access differs across sites. "The pull throughs only have electric, no water or sewer. They do have a place to get water onsite which is what we did," explains Brittany S. about Sauder Village Campground.

Site privacy differences: "The South Campground (where we stayed) has smaller sites that were much more closely packed together. There are non-electric sites that are a bit deeper but still quite narrow so your neighbors may be right there when you look around," notes Ari A. about Harrison Lake.

Tips for camping with families

Swimming options: "The lake was much bigger then we thought and lots of campers with boats," Steven S. reports about Lake Hudson Recreation Area. Sunny's Campground offers additional water recreation, with one visitor noting, "My 7 year really enjoyed the swimming and riding his bike through the campground. When we stayed the campground had brought in large inflatable water slide which was a great time."

Indoor alternatives: "Located on the grounds (and within walking distance of the campground) is a restaurant, bakery, gift shop and hotel (which has an indoor pool, hot tub, and game room campers are allowed to use)," explains Nancy W. about Sauder Village Campground, providing options during inclement weather.

Educational opportunities: "We rented a yurt as a local weekend escape. Our kids loved the yurt... The lake is nice for swimming and there are bike rentals which was fun as well," shares Sherrie W. Several dog-friendly campgrounds near Fayette combine outdoor recreation with learning experiences through nature centers and historic displays.

Tips from RVers

Overnight options: Indian Meadow Ohio Turnpike RV Lot provides convenient stopover camping near Fayette. "There are about 20 spots all for 40 feet total RV leaks. Requires an approval from staff at the travel center. For what it is it is a nice safe break with a potable water station and a dump station right there," reports Steven F.

Site selection: "The RV sites are long, level, and have either 50 amp full hook-up or water and electric only," notes Nancy W. about Sauder Village Campground, which is particularly accommodating for larger rigs.

Electrical considerations: "Extension or long electrical cords may be needed, as boxes are at back end and halfway to next site over," advises Cheryl M. regarding Lake Hudson Recreation Area, an important consideration for RVers planning their setup at dog-friendly campgrounds near Fayette.
