Best RV Parks & Resorts near Covington, OH

RV parks near Covington provide a range of camping options within an hour's drive. Poor Farmer's Campground in Fletcher features electric and water hookups on gravel sites with standard pull-throughs for trailers up to 33 feet. Dayton KOA Holiday in Brookville maintains 223 sites with full hookups including 50-amp service, remaining open from April through November. Natural Springs Resort has tightly spaced RV sites with full hookups, though some campers report proximity issues. "The campground spots are small, too close together, and they don't enforce the quiet time curfew," noted one RV owner.

Full hookup availability varies significantly between campgrounds in the region. Stillwater Beach Campground offers electric sites with sewer connections but limited drinking water facilities. Many parks provide sanitary dump stations, though quality can differ – one visitor to Natural Springs mentioned avoiding their dump station entirely due to poor conditions. Cell service is generally reliable throughout the area parks. Most RV campgrounds in the region welcome pets, though specific restrictions may apply. Winter camping options are limited, with most facilities closing between October and April. Advance reservations are recommended during summer weekends when local campgrounds reach capacity.

    Kiser Lake State Park Campground

    Quiet Park

This park is know for the lake that is kayak and canoe friendly since it doesn’t allow any kind of boat with a motor. It also features a beach , 2 playgrounds and several hiking trails. Just be careful if you hike with dogs since some trails intersect with a nature preserve which doesn’t allow pets.

The campground itself has 20 electric sites , 56 primitive sites and 4 camper cabins. All the electric sites are pull through and all sites have a fire pit but only the electric sites come with picnic tables.

Due to off season and COVID the camp store is closed and there is no camper host or park office staff around.

We did notice lots of downed trees on the poorly marked hiking trails. Some trails just started but no maps were around and no trails were blazed. It was hard to tell where we were headed or how long a trail was. I tried using the new Detour app and it wasn’t very accurate for this park.

We did have good Verizon cell coverage.

    Tomorrow's Stars RV Resort

    Great Park

We decided to stay here last minute. Read the reviews and went for it. 45’ Prevost w/toad. Pull through we were assigned had very low hanging tree limbs. I called the office and asked if we could use space 41 instead. No problem! Everything is clean, well cared for, and really pretty. We did not use the showers, laundry, or pool. Cost was EXCELLENT for a pull through, full hookups, and 50 amp service. Yes, there are people staying full time, but each space is well taken care of with pride it seems.

    Hueston Woods State Park Campground

Nice but hard to get good sites on weekends !

Limited level campground with full and electric hookups (does have WiFi). Best areas are A (full hookups and B (electric hookups) with concrete pads, some with slight slopes. First sites #s on A side do have larger slopes! C through E are electric only but are hilly grass pads. Other areas are back in the woods with no WiFi connections and primitive bathrooms/ outhouses (no showers) But park has great recreational activities. Book early for weekends which are almost non existent during the summer for A and B areas! Also only one dump station in B area.

    Buck Creek State Park Campground

    Great quiet site

A well manicured campground just outside Dayton, easy to get to, back in pavement site with 30A electric, picnic table and fire pit. Plenty of potable water spigots around, just not at the site. Dump station near the entrance of the campground. Walking trails along the lake well cared for. Plenty of activity with playground and an outdoor theater. Plenty of water-front pebble beach for enjoyment in the summer. Close to the campground is the marina with a restaurant , but won’t open til Memorial Day.

Addendum: July 2021 - was speaking with a number of people who have been here and they suggest not going during the summer. There is a large influx of rowdy locals who don't quite respect the peace and quiet many of us like.

    Archway Campground

    Quaint Stop Over

Owner is a kind old man. Escorted us to our site and helped us pull in. 30 and 50 amp hook ups available. No sewer hookups but dump station onsite. Mostly pull through sites with lots of room between campers. Great location, right off I-70. Lowes, Walmart, Menards, and Dollar General very close by. Almost every restaurant or food type that you can think of close by. Fishing pond onsite that also allows swimming. Restrooms/showers very basic and dated. 5 stars for what it is. Not fancy, 5 stars for what it is. Family owned, no frills campground. Relaxing mom and pop campground with owners that go the extra mile to accommodate guests.

    Hueston Woods State Park Campground

Great place to stay, just watch your reservation

Hueston Wood, a real gem. The park is about 3000 acres with a beautiful sailing / fishing lake. There is a beautiful lodge and golf course, archery range, and plenty of hiking paths and equestrian paths.

The biggest issue for us was the description of the site at C36 was nothing like the description. We approached the staff in the office and they expressed no concern in helping us. One camping family left due to the office staff's attitude.

Ok, now for the positive! We met one of the volunteers, Gary, who was able to find us a site to hold our 34 foot motorhome. He made our July 4th weekend, couldn't have been more accomodating.

Sites have 30A electric and there is plenty of potable water available around the campground, just not at the site. Each site has a fire ring and a picnic table. At the A and B loop there was plenty of space around the site to spread out.

The dump station is fairly new and can accommodate 2 RV's. Though most site are grass, some have gravel, but the A loop sites are full hookup and concrete or paved (but not all flat). When setting reservation and with an RV over 20ft, shoot for A or B loop.

The grounds are just beautiful, hiking trails great but not all marked well. A place we will return.

Family-oriented atmosphere: Poor Farmer's Campground gets praise for its family-friendly environment. "Clean family oriented and spacious. Well run facility w good restrooms and showers plus electric hook up per site. Out in farm country so very little light pollution overall," writes loud F.

Stream access for kids: Natural water features add recreational value at certain campgrounds. "A stream ran behind the cabin. It has a pool and lots of kids activities," shares Melissa B. about Dayton KOA. Another camper mentions, "A stream that runs through the campground is nice for the kids to play in when it's too hot for them on the play ground."

What you should know

Site spacing varies: Reviews indicate significant differences in site layouts between campgrounds. Well maintained and clean."

At Welcome Woods, Ashley R. observed, "The campground is mainly seasonal campers and all seemed very welcoming and nice."

Consider pool hours: Operating times for amenities can impact family enjoyment. At Stillwater Beach, one visitor noted restricted access: "POOL IS NEVER OPEN WHEN PEOPLE WHO WORK CAN USE IT DURING THE WEEK. WHAT AVERAGE PERSON CAN USE THE POOL FROM 12-5?"

Evaluate site location: Some campgrounds offer varied terrain and privacy levels depending on loop selection. "The campground consists of 3 loops - A mostly full hookup, B loop Water and Electric and C loop is a mix. If you like wooded areas check out C loop," advises a Thousand Trails Wilmington visitor.

Tips from RVers

Hardee's restaurant is a different option for meals," notes Brad H. about the Bellefontaine location, which provides water and electric connections for overnight guests.

Service availability: Some campgrounds offer additional RV support services. "They are also an rv service center, and have a shop with parts, if you need them," mentions Allison W. about Poor Farmer's Campground, which functions as both a campground and RV service facility.
