Anderson Creek County Park- Dispersed Camping

    Dispersed Camping? Not yet.

I got pretty excited when I saw this listed as offering dispersed campsites as my daughter lives nearby, and the only camping near her is Raven Rock, and for whatever odd reason, when you camp at NC state campgrounds, you have to be in the campground for the night at 9PM in peak season, and 6PM in off season, or you will be locked out! Unfortunately, at this phase of development, Anderson Creek County Park only offers ONE group campsite. Hopefully they will offer dispersed camping as they develop further, they are doing so in phases.

    Parkton Place

The Farm Feel on 30 acres

Car camping in my Subaru with a pop up tent just in case for two nights. This place is beautiful and relaxing. Called the owner to check in and ask questions. Heather was very brief and helpful. The animals are friendly. Just make sure to close the gates behind you and keep coffee away from the animals. If you’re an introvert this may be the place for you. If you into socializing go explore and talk to the animals and other people camping if they are interested in talking. It feels like home already.

    Double L Farms Campground

    Lumberton NC

Our host, Brain and Lisa are great. Brain was there when we arrived to make sure we had everything we needed for hook up and helped with parking. Lisa gave very good directions to their location. Very peaceful, loved the animals. Will stay here again.

Pedro's Campground at South of the Border

    Great Stop!

This well known roadside attraction, South of the Border, has a hidden gem of a campground! They have a lot of sites, from back-ins to pull-throughs, full hook-ups, nightly rates from about $49 including tax (with discounts, and they offer a few). Nice sites with picnic tables and grills, we saw three bathhouses (clean!), and a coin-operated laundry. Entire campground is gated with security, and there are restaurants, shops, and gas stations. Quiet, fun, just off I-95 at the SC/NC border.

    Spacious Skies Sandy Run

    Great Campground for a Stopover

While this is a Spacious Skies Campground with all of the SS stuff (playground, bounce pad, pool, dog run, etc) it doesn't quite have the SS vibe.  Felt a little more like a long term campground.  There are 55 sites. While we were there, I counted 38 campers that I'm almost sure were long term and 5 that seemed short term like us.  The only thing that put me off about this though was a couple of sites seem to keep their dogs mostly outside in dog fences.

The campground is appropriately named (Sandy Run) because is it mostly sand.  There is at least a half mile sand road to get back to the campground.  All of the roads in it are sand, though you can tell the base is gravel.  The campsites themselves are mostly sand, with thick gravel to park on, nice concrete pads with picnic tables to sit at and a fire ring at each site.  There was a very nice short hiking trail that went around a small lake.

All of the staff was super friendly and helpful.  The campground and sites are clean and well maintained.  The bath and laundry house are also clean.

We had the only non-FHU site, so I had to use the dump station, which was easy access and well maintained.

The campground is close to I95 with easy access, but far enough away that you can't hear the highway noise.  It is right next to the Fayetteville airport, but being a regional, it is not very busy.

Bottom line, I would definitely stay here again, but we have family in the area.

    Uwharrie National Forest

    Peaceful Stay by the River

Peaceful and well-maintained area. I encountered a few people on the trail, which was reassuring without disrupting the solitude. I camped near the river and had a great experience. As a person of color, I felt safe at all times, including during brief interactions with other campers.

    Jones Lake Family Campground

    Great stay at Jones Lake

The sites are clean, spacious, and beautifully wooded, just far enough apart to feel private while still being close to the trails and lake access. Bathrooms and showers were clean with great hot water, the picnic areas were tidy, and the whole park had a natural feel that makes it easy to unwind. It’s a great spot for families, dogs, and anyone who wants a quiet getaway in a beautiful setting.

    Sycamore Lodge

    Beautiful forest camping

The campground is in an old pine forest with a few sycamore trees. Our site is smaller than most with 30amps, water and sewer. The resort is well maintained and very clean. Gravel roads and sites with a thick covering of pine needles between.

Standing Pines RV Resort & Campground

Peaceful, clean, and super friendly new RV park (Free WiFi)

We stayed at Standing Pines RV Park in Hartsville, South Carolina and were really impressed. This is a newer park, but you can tell the owners put a lot of care into the property. The grounds are clean, quiet, and surrounded by tall trees, which creates a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere while still being close to town. The sites are level, spacious, and easy to back into. Full hookups worked perfectly. Cell service was strong enough for remote work and streaming. The park roads are wide and well maintained, which makes everything simple when arriving or setting up. The overall vibe is calm, safe, and welcoming. The owners are helpful and available without being intrusive. It already feels like a comfortable home base and it is clear the park is being built the right way. If you are passing through Hartsville, working in the area, or looking for a quiet place to stay for a while, Standing Pines RV Park is a great choice. Very clean, very relaxing, and we will definitely return.

Guide to Wagram

Camping spots near Wagram, North Carolina range from no-frills forestland to family-oriented resorts with recreational amenities. The region sits within the Sandhills ecological region, characterized by sandy soil and longleaf pine forests at elevations around 200-300 feet. Cell service remains reliable at most campgrounds in the area, even at primitive sites without other amenities.

What to do

Fishing and paddling access: Lumber River State Park at Chalk Banks offers direct water access for kayaking and fishing. "The Lumber River is right here, so fishing and canoeing/kayaking are popular activities. There is a hiking trail here as well," notes Marvin D., who particularly recommends sites 9-11 for additional privacy.

ATV adventures: Outback ATV Park provides extensive trail networks for off-road enthusiasts. "So many trails you'll never ride the same one twice. Swimming hole is nice and spring fed," explains Charli R. The park allows campers to set up wherever they prefer, giving visitors flexibility to find secluded spots away from others.

Farm animal interactions: Children can interact with livestock at Double L Farms Campground, which operates as both campground and working farm. "If you have a family with small children, they will love the horses, chickens, guinea hens, and the couple of friendly cats and dogs that they own," reports Marvin D., highlighting the educational component of staying at this campground.

What campers like

Privacy between sites: The spacing between campsites at Chalk Banks receives consistent praise from visitors. "The tent sites are some of the better spread out ones that I've seen and having cell coverage is immensely appreciated considering you're basically in the middle of nowhere," explains camper S.H.S., addressing both the seclusion and connectivity benefits.

Clean facilities: Many campers appreciate the well-maintained bathrooms at Pedro's Campground just across the South Carolina border. "The bath house was modern, had tile floors, and the showers were hot," notes Myron C., who found the campground convenient despite its proximity to Interstate 95.

Heated pool access: Campers looking for swimming options appreciate the pool facilities at Lumberton I-95 KOA. "The pool is clean and cool, a nice respite from the day's drive," according to Gregory L., who found the amenity particularly refreshing after traveling.

What you should know

Gate access hours: Most campgrounds in the area implement strict gate closures overnight. At Chalk Banks, "the ranger that greeted us was super nice and respectful. He gave us the gate code in case we needed to leave after they closed the gate at 9:00pm," reports Joe L., highlighting the importance of obtaining access codes upon arrival.

Road conditions: Primitive campgrounds often require appropriate vehicles. At Sandhills Campground B, the access roads present challenges. "Make sure you have 4 wheel drive or a vehicle with good clearance, as it's all dirt roads in and around and leading to here," advises Marvin D., who notes the campground was originally designed for hunters.

Supplies availability: Few campgrounds offer on-site stores. For Chalk Banks visitors, "there is no general store nearby so bring wood and supplies in with you," advises Joe L. Certain locations like Pedro's Campground provide firewood for sale, but most require bringing all necessary camping supplies.

Tips for camping with families

Animal encounters: Double L Farms Campground provides unique farm experiences for children. "Brian took our two year old on a tour of their amazing farm — horses, cows, ducks, chickens, and all the tractors of our toddlers' dreams," shares Heather M., emphasizing how the owners make families feel welcome.

Recreation options: Beyond natural attractions, Sycamore Lodge offers extensive family-friendly activities. "Putt Putt, Horse Shoes, Basketball, Swimming Pool, and Game Room. Nice lake with walking trail," lists Todd C., highlighting the various recreation options beyond typical camping experiences.

Security considerations: Families appreciate the safety measures at Pedro's Campground. "Fenced in and safe. You can walk to the restaurants and shops at South of the Border," notes P.J., mentioning that the campground's location allows for easy access to adjacent attractions while maintaining security.

Tips from RVers

Site leveling challenges: RVers should be prepared for potential site placement issues. At Spacious Skies Sandy Run (formerly Lazy Acres), guests note varying experiences with site selection. "The sites themselves are hard packed sand and you have a very nice patio and fire pit," reports the Travyl Couple, though they caution that "it can be hard to get larger trailers in and out of the park and into and out of some of the sits."

Hookup considerations: RV campers appreciate the full hookup options at Chalk Banks. "There is a path walkable to the river, and each campsite was clean, had plenty of space on level ground to set up camp, a fire pit, and very clean toilet," shares Makenzie T., noting the combination of natural access and necessary amenities.

Weather preparations: Winter campers should be aware of freezing temperature protocols. Many campgrounds require RVers to disconnect water hoses during cold nights, with some implementing strict enforcement policies to prevent damage to their water systems.
