Dispersed Camping

We drove in mid day and couldn’t find a spot, unfortunately. All dispersed spots were taken. However, there are parking spaces that you can park in overnight in front of hunting shelters. Just be mindful of how you park and don’t take up handicapped parking.

Beautiful, Quiet, Off-Grid

Loved this spot - we got lucky and parked right next to a swimming hole, had a gorgeous swim and enjoyed our time. No service, off-grid, really lovely.

Cool campground

We stayed at site L12 on the Long Arm Campground #2. The paddle in was ok but there was some boat traffic. The site was very nice, however, it would be better to choose a site from 14 or higher. Sites 11, 12, and 13 are nice but the landing is in a shallow algae filled cove. Not ideal for…

Camping in the mountains

Lovely woody and grassy field campground with only electric at our site. The sunrise is beautiful on the big field. The sites are well spaced and fairly level. The bath house had clean and private bathing rooms with great hot water and pressure. There is a place to wash dishes outside as well.…

Beautiful!

This was my first-ever camping trip and I’m glad that it was here. We stayed at site 11 in location 2 on the Lake James campgrounds; it’s a paddle-in-only location. Getting there required canoeing in, which was easy for us to do on the lake’s dock. (We rented canoes from CBS a ways away.) The trip…

Great family campground

This was a perfect place for a weekend getaway. We stayed at a tent site and were happy with the amenities. There’s a pond for fishing and swimming, trails to hike, and playgrounds for the kids. The only downside is the sites are quite close to one another and the golf carts can be loud, although…

Serenity....

Took awhile to get to the actual camping site but MAN - it was sooo wotht it!! The campsite is nicely nestled in nature and very well kept. Having a nice hot shower in the morning was also super nice! Rater spouts close by was also an additional plus. I will definitely recommend this campground and…

Campground with large playground

Our group had both an RV and a large tent. The room allowed for both was very generous. The grounds and bath house were clean and well maintained. Barry the owner is very helpful and accommodating. He will deliver wood to your campsite, if you need to buy wood. Our sites were creek side. The kids…

Fun... Enough

Just a very small campground, seems to be family friendly with just enough amenities. There's a playground, sand boxes and paved semi level RV pads. I wouldn't come back but the place is very quiet. If you're into that...

Wooded sites along the river

This is a beautiful campground located alongside a stream with trout fishing. Site#2 in particular is susceptible to flash flooding, but if the forecast is for dry weather, it would be hard to beat this site. Opening delayed in 2021 because of difficulty getting a campground host, but volunteers…

Infrastructure decline means limited primitive camping

Grindstone campground is a large, primitive NF site that will only have a single loop(Opossum) open with no water or electricity for 2021 and the foreseeable future.  I spoke with volunteers who stated there are extensive infrastructure needs and no funds to complete the repairs. So, if you have a…

Wild horses, beautiful trails and views

This was my third time here, but the first time in 25+ years. This is a wonderful state park located near the high point of Virginia, Mt Rogers, and as such, it is a popular destination for hikers. Oh, and there is that other natural attraction, the wild ponies that roam the mountains. It’s not…

Hidden Gem

Located on the Blue Ridge Parkway this campground is a great out of the way destination. Offers full hookup as well as tent camping. Quiet and very clean. Highly recommended !

Good stay for the price

We stayed 2 nights in our 17' travel trailer and enjoyed clean bathrooms and hot showers, plus our site #2 had a small deck that came in handy when we were able to move the picnic table under our camper awning to avoid a light rain. Don't miss Linville Falls, but especially don't miss the drive up…

Great views

Enjoyed the weekend. Very nice campground. Great pull through spots with great views.

No consistent cell service and no wifi if you need to work. Good excuse to shut down and enjoy the creation.
