Deep River Campground And RV Park

    Clean,affordable, and friendly staff

Took a weekend trip to Deep River Campground in Asheboro, NC. Very well kept, level spots, pet friendly, big rig friendly with pull through and back-in sites available. Full hook-ups (50 & 30 amp). Fire pit and picnic tables at each site. About $40 a night, no deposit required. With weekly and monthly rates as well. 2 pools (currently closed due to covid), game room, store, and private pond. Located minutes away from multiple trail heads. We were on lot 20, which is a double space designed for a larger rig, very private with lots of shade.

Crosswinds Campground — Jordan Lake State Recreation Area

    Awesome State Park

This was our very first full-time RV park. We loved being in the park and it easily accommodated our 39ft. Class A. Back-in site but with plenty of room to do so. Each site has water and electric hook-up. Sewer however is a dump station. The sites are big with a picnic table, fire pit and lantern hook. Plenty to do here with the lake at your fingertips. Great first experience.

    Ararat River Campground

    Wonderful owners

The new owners have revamped this campground. From what I’ve heard, this wasn’t the place to go prior to the ownership change. The owners here care about everyone at the campground, and keep it nice and clean. They also expect their full time campers to keep their lots and campers in good condition. Both owners are very approachable and respectful. Campground is just a short hike to the Ararat River. Which is why the new name is Ararat River Campground. No tent camping, but 30 amp and 50 amp camper hookups are available with sewage. In the warm months the owner holds church services in the pavilion behind lot 12. Owners offer a flat monthly rate that includes water, electric, wifi, and campground maintenance.

Deep River Campground And RV Park

    Unlevel & messy

We made a mistake. My wife and I are moving to North Carolina, and we were looking for a place to stay for a month in the Asheboro area. I checked around and Deep River was the only local campground with long-term sites available, so I made the reservation. The owner, Scott, was very helpful throughout the reservation process and we thought we were going to have a good experience.

When we showed up, Scott met us at the office and he took us to the "most level site" he had available. I was a little concerned from the start because the sewer pipe was sitting at a 45 degree angle and it was half buried in the ground. I had to help dig out the pipe and when I looked inside I noticed the connection was broken and any drainage would  have leached directly into the ground. Additionally, the sewer connection was more than 40 feet from the center of the site and I only carry 30 feet of line, so we had to back way up in order to hook-up. Unfortunately, that meant that our primary slide was within 3 feet of a giant pine tree so there was barely enough room to open it. Another problem with being so far back in the site was how unlevel the camper was. It took a while for me to get the trailer unhitched and by the time I had it nearly level, I had used all of my blocks and the jack was extended to the maximum height. Needless to say, I did not feel very comfortable with the arrangement and I was really starting to question whether or not to stay.

Then I started looking around at the site and there was trash everywhere with broken pieces of metal and half chewed dog bones strewn about. I looked at my wife and I could tell she was not happy. So I got on my phone, called another campground and made reservations. Scott was understanding, he tried to talk us into trying another site but by that time we had decided to move on. I will give Scott credit, he didn't charge us a cancellation fee, so that was good.

A quick note, the WiFi was limited to close to the office and we would have had to pay Spectrum for a monthly internet connection. Also, Verizon cell coverage was weak.

Poplar Point Campground — Jordan Lake State Recreation Area

    Family Friendly Lake Jordon

Poplar Point Campground at Jordan Lake quickly became one of my family’s favorite spots, offering the perfect mix of nature and convenience just outside Raleigh. With over 500 shaded sites, many right along the shoreline, the kids had room to play while we enjoyed peaceful lake views and easy access to boating, kayaking, and fishing. The campground has plenty of family-friendly touches from playgrounds, picnic tables, fire rings, and boat ramps along with water and electric hookups at most sites, though I learned that some loops have cleaner bathhouses than others. Bald eagles overhead, herons by the water, and fiery sunsets made it feel like we were far from the city, yet Apex and Pittsboro were just a short drive away when we needed a meal or groceries. My tips: aim for a lakefront site in Loops C, F, or G, pack serious bug spray for summer, and plan to catch at least one sunset across the water as it’s the kind of view the kids will remember long after the trip.

    Jordan Dam RV Park

    Great no frills campground.

We stayed at Jordan Dam RV Park for a year while waiting for our house to be built.  The campground is a great, quiet place.  There are not a lot of recreational amenities, but there is pond for fishing.  The site maintenance man, Earl, will direct you into your site, which was a bit tricky in the site we were in.

The RV Park has on-site propane filling, and if you leave your tank on your picnic table, Earl will come and fill it.  This was extremely convenient during the winter months, when we were filling one of our tanks every few days.

If you are looking for someplace close to Jordan Dam boat launch, or are looking for a long term site, this is for you.

    Greystone RV Park

    Amazing view of Pilot Mountain

Highly Recommended! We had the opportunity for an extended stay at Greystone in 2024 and had an exceptional experience. This is one of the best campgrounds we've found in all of our RV travels. The owners and camp host are some of the finest people you can meet and you can tell they really care about their customers. If you're looking for a small, quiet campground that checks all of the boxes then this is the one. And the unobstructed view of Pilot Mountain is the icing on the cake. If you can stay a night with Greystone, you will not be disappointed! We stayed in site 10 (end site) and it perfect for our 25 ft travel trailer. The gated campground has ten FHU sites for self contained RVs ( no pop ups or tents allowed), all sites have wifi and open sky for starlink, campground bathhouse and laundry are five stars. Camp host sells firewood for campfires.

    Jordan Dam RV Park

    Exceptional RV Parking Campground

While a bit out-of-the-way, if you’ve got one of those incredibly large mobile homes on wheels, then this particular well-shaded, quiet and rural RV location just off of HWY 1near Moncure and quite near majestic Jordan Lake may just be the perfect spot for you.

With ample slanted and elongated parking lanes for your parking pleasure, all of the sites come equipped with the typical 30/ 50 amp electrical hook-ups, waste disposal and water connections. There’s the standard picnic table, fire ring/BBQ, garbage receptacles and even a community BBQ.  There are both well-shaded sites as well as those that don't have any.  My personal recommendation would be to get one further in the back nearest the pond (where you'll actually find real ducks!).

The hosts are incredibly nice and offer pricing by the night, week and month. Overall, the community is inviting and friendly and there’s at times some planned activities throughout the week (check with the front desk). While there's not a whole lot of commerce in these parts, nearby there is Ray's Supermarket, Jordan Dam Mini-Mart/Grill and a host of restaurants and stores over in Pittsboro. There's free WiFi, laundry service, propane tank onsite as well as little store on the campground premises itself and even a small fish pond.

    Happy Camping!

    Morrow Mountain State Park Campground

Historical get away in the forest

The swaying of pine trees with the smell of the forest greets us at this easily accessible site in our motorhome. Electric and water hookups at our site, dump station available on the way out, camp host available. Picnic tables, fire pit available at our site. Lots of shade, plenty of trails that cover this State Park. The Kron house nearby, the swimming pool ( closed at time of our visit). The town of Albemarle 10 minutes away and Badin lake right down the mountain. Lots of history here just stop at the ranger station for information, maps and more.

Guide to Pleasant Garden

Several campgrounds offer RV sites near Pleasant Garden, North Carolina, situated in the central Piedmont region at around 800 feet elevation. The area experiences moderate seasonal changes with humid summers and mild winters, making camping possible year-round. Local campgrounds vary in size from small private parks with 10 sites to larger resorts with over 80 spots, providing diverse options for RV travelers.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: At Ivory Clay Farm, visitors can enjoy quiet angling and wildlife viewing. "This is a great relaxing get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life! As the owners, we love relaxing & enjoying the bonfires, sunsets, wildlife & star gazing," notes Kevin E.

Hiking trails: Cane Creek Campground offers walking paths through wooded areas. "Located close to nothing else, this campground was so peaceful at night. During the day, it's beautiful. It's got showers with hot water and accessible facilities," shares Dimitry A.

Swimming: Multiple pools are available at Thousand Trails Forest Lake for cooling off during hot months. "This campground has so many sites and they are well laid out and spacious. There is a nice restaurant to eat at, a small convenience store, arcade games, 3 pools and a ton of activities," explains Lauren S.

What campers like

Secluded spots: The private setting at rural campgrounds offers peace and quiet. "Jake from the Dyrt here! Ivory Clay Farm is now bookable on The Dyrt and offers a nice quiet place to rest just outside of the Winston-Salem & Greensboro Area," reports Jake C.

Wildlife viewing: Lake Myers RV Resort provides natural settings for animal watching. "A+ campground.. fun activities.. kid friendly.. love playing BINGO here!!" states Kristy W., highlighting the mix of recreation and nature.

Mountain views: Some RV parks offer scenic vistas of nearby peaks. "10 flat, paved spots on the top of hillside looking up at Pilot Mt. You're right next to your neighbors, but was a great spot for a stopover," Greg H. explains about Greystone RV Park.

What you should know

Seasonal considerations: Summer brings higher temperatures and more crowds to most parks in the region. "We stayed with family and reserved a cabin. Our two family members reserved two RV sites... once we were IN our cabin, I must say- it was one of the nicest cabins out there," says Julie L. about Forest Lake.

Site spacing: Space between RVs varies significantly between parks. "Salem Breeze is a no-frills RV campground. Spots are level with plenty of room although not much shade in most spaces. 30/50A full hookups with both back in and pull-through spots," observes Matt B.

Cell coverage: Connectivity differs across campgrounds near Pleasant Garden. "The WiFi is excellent and, I believe, cell service is good for pretty much everyone since it's so close to the Triangle," notes Mike C. about Spring Hill RV Park.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Some campgrounds have dedicated play areas for children. "Plenty of places to tent camp or RV camp! Places to fish things for kids to play on and of course places to shower after! One of my family's favorite places to camp!" recommends Krista H. about Cane Creek.

Activity planning: Check which facilities have organized events for kids. "We had a great time visiting Mocksville. There are a lot of cute restaurants near by. The dog park was nice and walking the park was relaxing," shares Ariel F. about Lake Myers RV Resort.

Space selection: Request sites away from busy roads or facilities for safer family camping. "Beautiful little park nestled into the woods! Our site (17) was on the opposite side of the real lake access and right across from the annual spots so we never really had too much privacy," advises Mandy L.

Tips from RVers

Leveling requirements: Check site grade before arrival. "Pull thru sites with concrete pads. No leveling needed. Couldn't be easier to pull in and set up," reports Nan L. about Greystone RV Park.

Propane services: Some parks offer on-site propane filling for convenience. "The RV Park has on-site propane filling, and if you leave your tank on your picnic table, Earl will come and fill it. This was extremely convenient during the winter months," explains Michael R. about Jordan Dam RV Park.

Site selection: Arrive early to get better positioning at some parks. "They reserve you a spot, but not a specific spot so get there early if you want your pick," advises Matt B. about Salem Breeze, highlighting a common practice at campgrounds near Pleasant Garden.
