Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Mineral Springs, NC

Cane Creek Park accommodates pets throughout its established campground, offering tent sites, RV spots with water and electric hookups, and pet-friendly cabins. Pets must remain leashed within the park boundaries, including along the hiking trails that border the lake. McDowell Nature Preserve also allows pets at its drive-in and walk-in sites, maintaining similar leash requirements for all animals. Both parks provide picnic tables and fire rings at each site with trash receptacles placed throughout the grounds. The bath houses at Cane Creek remain clean and well-maintained, though campers note they are somewhat dated but in good working condition.

Dogs particularly enjoy the trails at Cane Creek where several paths run alongside the water, offering cooling opportunities during warmer months. The campground's trail system accommodates both hikers with pets and equestrians, though some rougher sections may not be suitable for bicycles. Charlotte-Fort Mill KOA and Carowinds Camp Wilderness Resort provide additional pet-friendly options with full hookup capabilities for RVs. Camping with pets requires advance planning as popular sites like Cane Creek often book quickly, especially during peak seasons. Quiet hours are strictly enforced throughout these campgrounds, allowing for peaceful overnight stays even with pets in residence. Park rangers regularly patrol the grounds, contributing to the overall security of the camping environment.

    Camping World Charlotte Motor Speedway

    Huge!

Campground is huge & within walking distance of the raceway. Camping world is across the street if you forgot anything! Win! We parked across from the playground for the kids and it was so nice. They have a sand volleyball court there too. Dog park in the far back corner. Different vibe off of racing season. Very affordable & nice quiet stop! Off season, they turn two sites into one so you get 100' to yourself. All gravel. Grassy areas around for pets. Some sites have a grass backyard area. Fences & picnic tables separate the sites.

    Camping World Charlotte Motor Speedway

    It’s okay…

This campground is more for a temporary place to stay and not a place to hang out. There is a playground and a dog park, but there is no grass near where the RV’s park. It’s mostly gravel. Good for temporary staying.

    Crowders Mountain State Park Campground

    Great Hiking And Day Use

I saw state park and was excited about the potential of another great site in North Carolina. I was not disappointed in that it offered amazing hiking. But signs clearly depicted it to be a day use only facility which was a little bit of a bummer.

I spent the afternoon hiking on a trail which was marked moderate but I’d honestly say was more strenuous. Lots of people come to do the Tower hike here!!

When I pulled out I saw even more signs just further reminding me of the day use …. for camping it’s a 1 (which is what matters on this site) however for the activities it is a 4. I found it to be a good compromise to give it a 3 overall because I did like the site, just wish it had organized camping because limited information was available about permits for potential back country camping like I had seen on here.

Kings Mountain — Kings Mountain State Park

    Relaxing and beautiful

The campground is nice and some sites have more room than others. Lots of clean bathrooms throughout the campground and park. Nice play area for kids. Good hiking. The rangers dropped off flyers on Friday night to let us know the events for the weekend at the military park (which were free events). Very pet friendly.

Ebenezer Park Campground - TEMPORARILY CLOSED

    nice in the summer

We live close so this is usually our summer go to for an over night. we like to swim and fish. Ithas a nice playground for kids. it is pet friendly. I prefer to stay on the wooded side. We tent camp and like that every site has electric and water. The camp store doesn’t really have much so we bring everything with us. there is a nice gas station less than a mile away we get coffee from there in the mornings.

    Norwood Campground

    good campground

Decent campground with a pond for fishing, a swimming pool, and a store. The pool doesn’t have normal steps that you walk down into the pool on, they only have the ladder steps which make it a little tricky getting in with a small child. There is no access to the lake from the campground, but the lake is close by. Very friendly staff. The bathrooms/showers have no ac.

The area maintains moderate temperatures even during summer months with daytime averages of 80-85°F, making pet friendly camping near Mineral Springs, North Carolina accessible in multiple seasons. Several campgrounds in the region operate throughout winter with reduced crowds and lower humidity.

What to do

Lake activities: water-based recreation at Kings Mountain State Park offers a refreshing alternative for pets and owners. "We stayed in May for a weekend. It was full of people and kids. There were great trails for you and your pup's to go hiking on," notes Rachel R., highlighting the dual appeal for humans and canine companions.

Fishing opportunities: freshwater species can be caught at Andrew Jackson State Park Campground where campers access Lake Crawford. "This is a cool little spot not far from Charlotte NC which doesn't seem as busy as other nearby campgrounds. There are cites right next to a lake which is perfect for paddling around in a canoe or kayak just watch out for stumps," advises Tony E.

History exploration: educational sites around Kings Mountain provide historical context to camping trips. "Make sure to go across the street to the Kings Mountain Military site. Better yet, plan your stay when they are doing an event," suggests Don H., pointing to the Revolutionary War battlefield adjacent to the state park.

What campers like

Privacy between sites: McDowell Nature Preserve provides woodland buffers between camping spots. "The camp spot was level and plenty big enough to accommodate our 12x17 tent. We had our own power and shared water with the next campers," reports Lee J., noting the balance of proximity and space.

Year-round accessibility: The campgrounds surrounding Mineral Springs offer pet-friendly camping options in all seasons. "I stayed here for nine days. The campground is clean and well-maintained. The bathhouse is in good shape and clean. I will come back when I'm in this area," states Robert D. about Cane Creek Park.

Free recreation amenities: Some camping areas include complimentary activities beyond hiking. "The mini golf is free and a blast. The swim area is only open on Saturdays or you can drive to the day use side and be over there," explains Sarah B. about weekend recreation options at Cane Creek Park.

What you should know

Reservation requirements: Peak season at popular campgrounds requires advance planning. "This campground is owned by Union County, NC with a good rate for residents. As such, it can be difficult to get in at times and usually requires a reservation well in advance," advises Rick B.

Varied site conditions: Campsite quality and levelness can differ significantly. "Many camping sites are very much in need of leveling. Sites slope from left to right, front to back, and some slope in both ways," warns Richard E. about some sites at Kings Mountain State Park.

Alcohol restrictions: Copperhead Island and several other campgrounds in the region prohibit alcohol consumption. "Campground has trails and fishing in walking distance. It is always packed. No alcohol permitted," Julie P. mentions about regional camping rules that apply to many pet-friendly sites.

Tips for camping with families

Seasonal events: Holiday periods feature special programming at Carowinds Camp Wilderness Resort. "We have been here 3 times all for a week at a time and love it. Holidays usually have some activities for kids," recommends Sarah B., noting the family-oriented schedule.

Security features: Gated access enhances family camping safety at several sites. "Spaces have offerings and picnic tables. RV and tent sites with water and electric. Clean facilities and secured gate with easy access after hours for paid campers," explains Nora C.

Swimming access considerations: Lake swimming areas have specific operational schedules. "The swim area is only open on Saturdays or you can drive to the day use side and be over there," clarifies Sarah B. about weekend recreation options for families with children.

Tips from RVers

Leveling challenges: RV sites at many campgrounds require extra equipment for leveling. "Got very busy on Friday through the weekend. Nice lake and hiking trails. Free putt-putt. Clean bathrooms and hot showers," reports David E. about Cane Creek Park's amenities that compensate for sometimes uneven terrain.

Size restrictions: Larger vehicles may struggle at certain campgrounds. "It is a great campground but tight fit for our 30 foot camper," Julie P. mentions about Ebenezer Park Campground, warning those with bigger rigs.

Hookup placement: Utility connections are positioned inconsistently between sites. "The electric and water are in odd spots on each site. Luckily we were on one of the rare fairly level sites," Karen S. notes about Kings Mountain's layout challenges for RV campers seeking pet-friendly camping near Mineral Springs.
