If it was just adults going, or even older children maybe 7 and up it would be a great location."

Deep River Campground And RV Park

    Clean,affordable, and friendly staff

Took a weekend trip to Deep River Campground in Asheboro, NC. Very well kept, level spots, pet friendly, big rig friendly with pull through and back-in sites available. Full hook-ups (50 & 30 amp). Fire pit and picnic tables at each site. About $40 a night, no deposit required. With weekly and monthly rates as well. 2 pools (currently closed due to covid), game room, store, and private pond. Located minutes away from multiple trail heads. We were on lot 20, which is a double space designed for a larger rig, very private with lots of shade.

    Midway Campground Resort

    Family-Friendly

This is a small, family-friendly campground. There is a pond for fishing, a nice pool, a jump pad, playground, arcade, and mini-golf. Plenty for kids to do. The best feature is a haunted trail at Halloween (this gets very busy so be aware if you plan to camp around this time of year). Sites are not necessarily level and big rigs might have a hard time navigating the campground, but folks are friendly and it's a nice place to spend a few days. They do offer long-term sites if you need to stay in the area for a while.

    Carowinds Camp Wilderness Resort

    convenient to Carowinds, decent campground

Older campground lots of shade.  staff very friendly and helpful. We were really surprised with how much has been invested in Carowinds over the years by Cedar Fair that the campground has been untouched.  Bathrooms/bathhouses were very clean and seem to be the one part of the campground that has been updated.  One section of the campground has been turned into long term camping and many looked like they had been there for years.  campground was quiet other than noise from air traffic as airport is nearby but it was minor.   Campsites have decent space in between each other which is great bc the sites are small in length and you will be parking either beside the rig or sideways in front of it. We stayed in a back-in site and most back-in sites seemed rather level but pull throughs were hit or miss on that aspect.  If you are staying here to go to the park then it is very convenient and has an excellent shuttle that runs frequently and drops you off near the front gate.  Very small camp store that has most of the basics. Campground overall is clean, safe and secure but we expected a little more from theme park campground.  We live nearby and are pass holders at Carowinds so we will likely stay frequently due to the convenience.

Deep River Campground And RV Park

    Unlevel & messy

We made a mistake. My wife and I are moving to North Carolina, and we were looking for a place to stay for a month in the Asheboro area. I checked around and Deep River was the only local campground with long-term sites available, so I made the reservation. The owner, Scott, was very helpful throughout the reservation process and we thought we were going to have a good experience.

When we showed up, Scott met us at the office and he took us to the "most level site" he had available. I was a little concerned from the start because the sewer pipe was sitting at a 45 degree angle and it was half buried in the ground. I had to help dig out the pipe and when I looked inside I noticed the connection was broken and any drainage would  have leached directly into the ground. Additionally, the sewer connection was more than 40 feet from the center of the site and I only carry 30 feet of line, so we had to back way up in order to hook-up. Unfortunately, that meant that our primary slide was within 3 feet of a giant pine tree so there was barely enough room to open it. Another problem with being so far back in the site was how unlevel the camper was. It took a while for me to get the trailer unhitched and by the time I had it nearly level, I had used all of my blocks and the jack was extended to the maximum height. Needless to say, I did not feel very comfortable with the arrangement and I was really starting to question whether or not to stay.

Then I started looking around at the site and there was trash everywhere with broken pieces of metal and half chewed dog bones strewn about. I looked at my wife and I could tell she was not happy. So I got on my phone, called another campground and made reservations. Scott was understanding, he tried to talk us into trying another site but by that time we had decided to move on. I will give Scott credit, he didn't charge us a cancellation fee, so that was good.

A quick note, the WiFi was limited to close to the office and we would have had to pay Spectrum for a monthly internet connection. Also, Verizon cell coverage was weak.

    Lake Norman State Park Campground

    Beautiful park, great facilities

Full hookups were all filled but site 29 was a primitive, deep, level 57 foot site right near water siphon and a beautiful modern bathhouse picnic table and fire grate/ring. Fair amount of space between sites, firewood sold by camphost or ranger. Made yummy hot dogs over fire, wonderful night, hot showers, clean facilities. You will be thrilled with this park, lake is beautiful, many hiking trails, biking, etc. Verizon cell service was excellent at our site and appeared good throughout park.

    Morrow Mountain State Park Campground

Historical get away in the forest

The swaying of pine trees with the smell of the forest greets us at this easily accessible site in our motorhome. Electric and water hookups at our site, dump station available on the way out, camp host available. Picnic tables, fire pit available at our site. Lots of shade, plenty of trails that cover this State Park. The Kron house nearby, the swimming pool ( closed at time of our visit). The town of Albemarle 10 minutes away and Badin lake right down the mountain. Lots of history here just stop at the ranger station for information, maps and more.

    Crown Cove RV Park

    Keep Driving!

Subpar; seems to cater to long term residents. For the 3 pages of rules and regulations I was expecting a pristine campground; what we found was a half paved parking lot and our lot was on a hill side which made using our full hookups going up hill. No fire pit! Must provide ur own, rules state belongings must be 3ft away from away from neighboring sites which is almost impossible with how close sites are. Pass it up! Keep Driving! Would have given less than one star if possible

    Zooland Family Campground

Great spot, well placed with Zoo.

Great stay. Minutes from the zoo. We did a three day weekend here, with a day at the zoo, and the rest of the time playing at the campground.

    3 kids all loved it.

Sites were gravel, not all level, but not too bad. Full hook-ups, picnic table and fire pit. Extremely friendly staff.

Guide to Gold Hill

RV camping near Gold Hill, North Carolina offers accessible options within Rowan County and surrounding areas. Located in the central Piedmont region at approximately 700 feet elevation, the area experiences mild winters and warm summers, making camping possible nearly year-round. Most campgrounds in this region provide varying levels of shade coverage, with hardwood forests predominant throughout the nearby camping areas.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: At Bass Lake in Salisbury, the small fishing pond attracts anglers of all skill levels. "Fun watching all the turtles in water bobbing in and out. Nice way to end a travel day," notes one visitor who appreciated the peaceful setting.

Family activities: Lake Myers RV Resort in Mocksville schedules regular events for families with children. "Many activities offered for family with 2 large pools etc," reports one camper, while another mentions "fun activities... kid friendly... love playing BINGO here!!"

Farm experiences: For a different camping experience, Ivory Clay Farm offers a quiet agricultural setting. The owners note that guests enjoy "relaxing & enjoying the bonfires, sunsets, wildlife & star gazing" in a more secluded environment than traditional campgrounds.

What campers like

Multiple swimming options: Campers at Thousand Trails Forest Lake appreciate the variety of water-based amenities. "There are 3 pools and a ton of activities," writes one reviewer, while another notes "2 swimming pools, camp store, snack bar, fishing pond (I caught 2 sunfishes in 30 min & I'm no fisherman)."

Camp store conveniences: Several campgrounds maintain on-site stores for essential supplies. Carolina Rose (formerly Cobble Hill) receives praise for unique offerings: "The best part was getting fresh eggs from the check-in store each morning... And I mean... Fresh Eggs," shares a visitor who enjoyed this distinctive amenity.

Spacious sites: Site layout matters to many RV campers. "Our campsite backed up to a hill, but it was shady and extremely welcomed during the hot days!" writes a summer visitor at Forest Lake. Another camper at Carolina Rose noted the campground has "nice wooded sites, lake, playground, pool and bonefires and djs on holidays."

What you should know

Site leveling challenges: Some campgrounds require additional equipment for comfortable parking. At Carolina Rose, a visitor encountered challenges with site 59: "pull through but was SUPER unlevel," they reported, suggesting blocks or levelers are necessary equipment.

Seasonal closures: Not all facilities operate year-round. Lake Myers RV Resort maintains a seasonal schedule from April through November, requiring winter travelers to find alternatives.

Mixed experiences: Reviews indicate inconsistent experiences at certain locations. One Lake Myers visitor described it as "packed, old, nasty" while others praised the same property. At Forest Lake, a reviewer warned "Bath house was disgusting with mold and garbage everywhere!" while others reported clean facilities.

Tips for camping with families

Age-appropriate activities: Consider the ages of children when booking. One Lake Myers visitor noted, "There was not much at all for them to do other than play in the pool... There is a play ground and game room for older kids but nothing for the smaller children to do."

Golf cart rental: At Forest Lake, families with children benefit from renting transportation. "We would suggest either bringing a golf cart, or renting one. There are miles and miles of trails in the woods, along the river bank, and along the lake," advises a family who camped with young children.

Evening entertainment: Crown Cove RV Park and other area campgrounds organize family-friendly nighttime activities. At Forest Lake, a camper described "activities planned to include an outdoor movie (with free popcorn), arts & crafts for the kids, candy bar bingo, and a DJ."

Tips from RVers

Navigation challenges: Some campgrounds require careful driving, especially with larger rigs. A Lake Myers visitor cautioned, "This is a decent family-friendly campground but is quite difficult to navigate the roads and sites if you have a larger rig."

Reservation timing: For RV camping near Gold Hill, North Carolina, booking well ahead is essential during peak periods. "Waited about 25-30 minutes for a ranger to show us to a spot that was way too small for my camper!" reported one frustrated Forest Lake visitor.

Extended stay considerations: For longer visits, Salem Breeze RV Park offers basic amenities with convenient location. "Nice spot for RV camping... a great spot to hook up your rig if you're in the area for something else, but it's not a destination campground. Spots are level with plenty of room although not much shade in most spaces."
