Best RV Parks & Resorts near Tonawanda, NY

Several RV parks near Tonawanda provide full-hookup options for motorhomes. Niagara Falls/Grand Island KOA Holiday offers 213 gravel sites with both 30 and 50-amp electrical service, operating from April 1 to October 28. The park accommodates big rigs with pull-through sites. "We arrived late and our site info was in the night drop so all good. It is right off the roadway so there is some road noise," noted one camper who used the KOA as a convenient base for visiting Niagara Falls. Niagara Falls Campground & Lodging provides 103 sites with water, sewer and 50-amp connections from April through October, though several reviews mention the sites are closely spaced with minimal privacy between rigs.

Most RV parks in the region require reservations, particularly during summer months and fall foliage season. Dump stations are available at all major campgrounds, with Gander RV of Buffalo offering sanitary dump and sewer hookups for travelers passing through. Many parks close completely between November and March due to harsh winter conditions. Four Mile Creek State Park Campground, located about 30 minutes from Niagara Falls, provides electrical hookups with water and dump stations on the grounds. Access roads throughout the area generally accommodate large motorhomes, though downtown Niagara Falls can present navigation challenges. One traveler mentioned Skyline RV Resort was "clean and well maintained" but noted "a little tight if you like to spread out," indicating the importance of confirming site dimensions when making reservations.

    Evangola State Park Campground

Some Sites Have a View of Lake Erie

    Unfortunately, my site did not.

However, my site wasn't crowded and the electricity was reliable. This campground has three loops. One has 30 amp power, one has 50 amp power (with a 30 amp outlet on the same pedestal) and the third loop is for tent camping. There are several places to get water in the camp, so be sure to fill up your tanks before you park. There is a dump station. None of the sites are full hook up.

Each site has a picnic table and a grill.

There are two bath houses. The newer one - between loops one and three - also has laundry facilities.

Your payment for your campsite entitles you to admission to the beach, which is a hike or a drive away.

Four Mile Creek State Park Campground

    Simple campground on Lake Ontario

We stayed here because it was near Niagara Falls and had site availability. We stayed at a non-electric campsite (mid-June). There were 4 other campsites occupied in our area. We have a camper van with solar power and fresh water. There is a shower in the non-electric section but it's not heated water. Since it's June, the temperature was only mildly shocking to my senses. However, the rest of the showers in the campground are heated (we checked). There are at least two laundry facilities. I actually exchanged cash for quarters at the front office. The grounds are well maintained. Beware of the resident skunk that walks around. I didn't test the cell signal here but I was able to work remotely and video chat.

    Cinderella Motel & Campsite

Basic, Convenient, VFM (value for money)

This campground is very basic with very close campsites.  The bathhouse and laundry are old but clean.  The staff were very friendly and helpful.  It is very close to Niagara falls and for the money it is the best campground here.  KOA and Branches CGs are nicer but they are also triple the price which for us did not seem worth it.  We were in a back in gravel site that backed up to the motel which may not seem that nice but the electric, water and sewer worked perfectly.  Our 40 foot MH and Toad fit with room to spare.  There were sites that were on the outskirts of the property that backed to the woods which some people may prefer.  Those sites were just as close although there were several that would take big rigs bit don't expect to open your awnings in most sites.   There is a nice grassy area in the center with a small covered pavilion.   There are a few sites on the side/front of Motel.  We were here to visit Niagara Falls so location and a basic campground with full hookups was all we were looking for and this campground fit our needs perfectly.  We would stay here again.

    Niagaras Lazy Lakes Camping Resort

    Clean & Friendly

We have camped here several times. Bathrooms are very clean along with the showers. They are cleaned on a daily basis. Store on site has just the bare amenities. Big clubhouse, 2 heated pools and a pond to fish (catch & release). Sites are big. Pet friendly. Staff are very friendly. 10-15 minutes from Niagara Falls and close to stores. It does have 2 on site laundry facilities but the dryers take a while. Enjoy going there.

    Darien Lakes State Park Campground

    Clean/Quiet Campground

9/25-9/29/22- The park was nearly empty, perhaps 6 or 8 other campers widely spread out. It was immaculate and the sites well spaced apart. All site have a picnic table and fire pit. Ours had both 30A and 50A power, was pretty level left/right but about 6” high in front before we leveled our 34’ fifth wheel. The park has drinking water faucets at a variety of places throughout, but site#15 has a faucet directly next to it, so we had water available too. Both AT&T 4G and Verizon 5G had 3 bars reception. The dump station was clean and convenient. It looked like a great place for kids that included at least one (probably more) playground.

    AA Royal Motel & Campground

An old campsite that fits our needs

This is not a resort campground nor is it a campground built for escapism. It’s very close to Niagara Falls, the Rainbow Bridge (for driving into Canada), and Buffalo, NY.

Mike is very friendly; check in was easy. The sites are full hook up or w/e only. There are pull throughs and back-ins, 30amp and 50amp sites. Your site is assigned once you arrive. You pay a deposit when you book and pay the rest when you arrive.

They have Good Sam and weekly discounts and I was also given a cash/check discount. So our total was $51 a night for a week’s stay.

The sites toward the front are definitely more level and have better cell service, but the sites toward the back are better shaded. Cell service and wifi was enough for me to work during the week and stream at night.

The facilities could use some work. They are very old, and it’s hard to tell if they are clean or just old. Laundry is available - $2.50 a wash/$1.75 a dry.

Basically, don’t expect a beautiful vacation campground. I work full time remotely from the camper. I was able to work during the days and get to Niagara Falls, CAN, and Buffalo quickly after work. Even with the discount, which I’m thankful for, it is overpriced for what it is. But it served my needs, I felt safe, and the owner was friendly so 3 stars. With some TLC to the sites and the facilities, I’d give it 4.

    AA Royal Motel & Campground

    Good location

This campground is open year around which is really hard to find in this area. We needed to come here for personal reasons before any other campground was opened. So far this isn’t bad could be better/ cleaner.

It is 50 amp full hook up with free Wi-Fi that doesn’t suck.

The site are paved level back ins and pull throughs

The staff was nice enough. Haven’t had much interaction with him.

There is a great Italian store right across the street and Niagara Falls down the road. I would stay here in a pinch again

    Niagara County Camping Resort

    Niagra County Camping Resort

Arrived late at night to this established site. This is a mixed accommodation campground with established long term residents & short term sites.

Some sites include a table, power access and tire rim for fire-ring. Showers & flushing toilets are near RV sites in back area. Small camp store, swimming pond & fishing pond. Manager, Christine very nice & helpful.

Campground is relatively close to scenic drives along Lake Ontario & Niagra State Park, Niagra Falls.

Guide to Tonawanda

RV campgrounds near Tonawanda, New York operate primarily from spring through fall due to the region's harsh winter climate. Located within Erie County just north of Buffalo, this area averages 40 inches of annual snowfall, making winter camping nearly impossible at most sites. Tonawanda camping facilities typically offer electric service ranging from 30-50 amp connections with varying degrees of tree coverage.

What to do

Explore Darien Lake Theme Park: Campers staying at Skyline RV Resort in nearby Darien Center can easily visit this popular attraction just minutes away. The resort offers convenient accommodations with full hookups for RVers planning theme park visits. "Great campground, a little tight if you like to spread out," noted one camper who appreciated the on-site repair shop.

Visit Rochester attractions: Some RV parks provide strategic positioning for regional exploration. Southwoods RV Resort sits approximately 45 minutes from downtown Rochester. "The campground is about 20-25 miles from downtown Rochester and located in a quiet rural setting surrounded by farmland," explained one reviewer who used it as a base for regional sightseeing.

Fish in campground ponds: Several Tonawanda area camping options feature fishing opportunities directly on the grounds. Red Rock Ponds RV Resort provides fishing access for guests looking for recreation without leaving the campground. "Nice, smaller campground with adequate sites. Appears more for permanent campers," observed one visitor who appreciated the on-site amenities.

What campers like

Clean facilities: Campground cleanliness ranks high among visitor priorities at Tonawanda area RV parks. "Bathrooms were very clean. Quiet campground. Lots of plays areas for kids," mentioned one guest at Southwoods RV Resort, highlighting the importance of well-maintained amenities.

Family-friendly activities: Many parks offer recreational options for children. Niagara Falls/Grand Island KOA Holiday features "2 swimming pools, playgrounds, fishing ponds, jump pad" according to one reviewer who appreciated the variety of activities available for younger campers.

Helpful management: Personal attention from campground staff enhances the camping experience. "The owner took us around on a golf cart to show us how different some areas are within the campground. Very nice people from weekend warriors to the seasonal campers," reported one guest at Southwoods who valued the personalized service.

What you should know

Site spacing varies significantly: Many Tonawanda area campgrounds feature closely positioned sites, particularly during peak periods. "Weekend sites would be pretty tight together if they were fully booked," noted one Southwoods camper, indicating the importance of understanding proximity expectations.

Reservation requirements: Summer months demand advance planning at most facilities. Niagara Falls Campground & Lodging charges premium rates during peak season. "This is an average park, bathrooms were clean, grounds mostly dirt with uneven rock pads. We think $75.00 after taxes was excessive," shared one visitor who found the pricing steep compared to facilities elsewhere.

Noise considerations: Some campgrounds experience traffic or transportation noise. "It is right off the roadway so there is some road noise," mentioned a Grand Island KOA visitor, while another noted Southwoods occasionally experiences train noise: "There is a train track near the park which occasionally is quite noisy."

Tips for camping with families

Look for dedicated play areas: Children need activity spaces during downtime between excursions. "Southwoods is a beautiful campground and accommodates campers of all ages. 2 well kept pools, playgrounds, laundry facilities, mini golf, soccer, basketball," observed one family who appreciated the diverse recreational options.

Consider weekend activity levels: Many campgrounds transform dramatically between weekdays and weekends. "We stayed four nights (which included a weekend) and experienced the park going from half full and quiet to packed with lots of music, all-day fires, and big gatherings," reported one Southwoods visitor, highlighting the importance of timing for families seeking quieter experiences.

Check pool availability and hours: Swimming access varies between facilities and seasons. "They have two pools but close really early," noted one Niagara Falls Grand Island KOA visitor, suggesting families should verify operating schedules for key amenities.

Tips from RVers

Verify site dimensions: RV campsites throughout the Tonawanda region vary significantly in size and spacing. "The campground is quite large and has separate sections for seasonal and transient campers and has a variety of different campsites from back-ins to pull-thrus, 50 to 30-amps, and full hook-up to water and electric only," explained one Southwoods visitor who appreciated the diversity of available options.

Avoid downtown navigation: Large motorhomes face challenges in urban settings near Tonawanda. "Note: if you are coming in from the southern side, DO NOT GO THROUGH DOWNTOWN BUFFALO like we did! PAY THE TOLLS!" advised one KOA visitor who learned this lesson firsthand.

Consider surface conditions: Site surfaces vary widely between Tonawanda area RV campgrounds. "Level gravel sites," noted one Niagara Falls Campground visitor, while another mentioned: "All campsite pads are gravel except for three long pull-thrus that are paved" at Southwoods, information particularly valuable for larger rigs requiring stable setups.
