    Treetopia Campground

    Amazing camping/Glamping!

Treetopia is a unique and truly amazing camping/Glamping experience in the Catskills, New York! We were able to meet Betty, Treetopia’s manager, who toured us around the campground and took us into each type of rental they provide for that special camping trip. They have RV sites, yurts, custom furnished treehouses with electricity, beautiful tiny homes with outdoor living spaces, completely remodeled vintage airstreams, and gorgeous private cabins! Every unit was more beautiful and comfortable than the next. The backdrop for the campground is the wonderful Catskill Mountains and all of the nature that includes. A wonderfully inspiring place! 😊👍🏻

If you have an RV, they have 30/50 amp with electric and water. There is no sewer, but they have a dump-station and on-site Honeywagon truck that you can schedule. They staff was wonderful and went out of their way to make our stay perfect! 💗

    Caroga Lake Campground

Good facility, lacks much to do

We were there 4th of July weekend, and the park was fully booked. Very friendly rangers, electricity in bathrooms, hot showers, and a nice dishwashing and recycling center.

The campsite connects to the beach area and there is boat rental, but no pets allowed in the beach area.

For us, a drawback was a lack of any hikes connecting to the campsite.

    Lake George Riverview Campground

    Great campsite!

We pulled in in the middle of memorial day weekend. The place was sold out. Staff was super friendly and had us check in on no time. The campground loses a start only because when it's at full capacity, it is very cramped. Some sites are much bigger than others and have more space though. The Schroon River run right through the campgrounds and you can rent kayaks and canoes or bring your own to go a ride. There is a little beach and just launch on site. The bathrooms are very nice and all individual with a toilet and shower in one. Another downside of you're more full-time is there is no laundry on site. You're 4 miles away from Lake George's downtown which is a great area. Plenty of nearby hikes. Each campsite had a BBQ-like fire pit. Campground has a very nice basketball court, pool and playground. Dog friendly and even we were there it looks like their looking to expand and make more sites. Only one cabin available at the moment.

    Moose Hillock Camping Resorts

    Nothing special

The good: large, spacious, private sites that are all fairly level and all about the same size. Beautiful pool with 2 water slides, arcade, and cafe that wasn’t opened during the week but will be starting July 1. Clean facilities. Store was fairly well stocked with things you might’ve forgot to pack. Staff was nice.
The not so good: lots of rules and charges for every little thing, our walkie talkies picked up on staff conversations and we heard they wanted to charge a family a guest fee for a delivery driver if he was on site more than 15 minutes, Showers cost money at $0.25 per 4 minutes, no wifi at all and poor cell reception, pool is NOT heated as they state all over their website, trash is not picked up, no activities or anything to do other than swim. Far from downtown Lake George and no trolley service, charges for early arrival regardless of whether sites is available or not and you can’t sit in their parking arrival area and wait. I would not choose this campground again. It wasn’t horrible. There is so much more they could offer for their resort prices that they charge. Drove through Lake George RV resort on Rt. 149 and I think I’d choose that campground next time. Check out the boats you ride on Lake George! The Adirondack is dog friendly! Get the coupon at the arcade for $3 off the $25 cost. Frontier Town gift shop on Rt 9 with the big teepee out front had great selection of stuff for good prices. Northway Brewing was fun with good beer!

    Caroga Lake Campground

    Overall, nice.

We spent a relatively quiet long weekend here on loop F 97, which is a bit removed from the main campground. It was a bit noisy on Saturday night but nothing disturbing.  This site also is bordered by a small stream so expect mosquitoes and the occasional visit from wildlife (we had raccoons at our site each night, so kept food in the car). Each site has a fire pit and a picnic table.

There is a store just outside the entrance that sells ice, wood, groceries.  There are quite a few roadside firewood sellers that are reasonably priced.  The fire pit does not have a narrow grilling grate so bringing something to ensure your food won't fall through the widely spaced bars is helpful.

As I said, our site was out of the main population, but it was a bit of a hike to the restroom which is something to keep in mind if you've really got to get to a bathroom first thing in the morning.

There is a Walmart about 10 miles away in Gloverville, so keep this in mind if you are planning on picking up essentials when you arrive.

There are no sites with electric.

    Beautiful for fall foliage

This campground was great. Quiet, great fire pits, clean bathrooms, firewood and starter for sale plus access to day use area. The lake next to the campground is beautiful and has plenty of picnic tables and grills for use. Close to hiking trails and the city of Bennington.

    Moose Hillock Camping Resorts

Great campsite, great pool. Cafe service is horrendous. Preachy.

    The goods:

Campsites are the largest and most private I've ever seen. Fantastic. Good privacy.

Dunno why others are complaining about the 3 rocks as a fire pit. Plenty functional and directs the heat out towards the seating area.

The pool is as good as it looks in the pictures. Your kids will be here every day and love it. The deepest the pool gets is around 4 feet. There are 2 slides and they are pretty well monitored.

The check in staff and the store staff are great. Very helpful. The camp store is pretty well stocked.

    The needs improvement:

The café staff are completely incompetent. I went through 3 people to find someone that spoke English. A very basic order of 2 slushies took over 20 minutes and they were both wrong. I watched the same thing happen to the next 4-5 families while my kids drank their slushies. It has a ton of potential but terrible execution. I tried again a day or two later and bought some lunch, it took an hour and the order was wrong.

The playlist at the pool area seems to alternate between Jimmy buffett / Bob marley (great!) and a 5 year old's sunday school religious kid songs (wth??). Super annoying. Combine that with the pamphlets handed out at check-in, it's a little preachy. Save that for church, I'm here to camp, Thank you.

    Lake George Escape Campground

    Glamping at its Finest!

The tent we stayed in was gorgeous! We fit 5 of us comfortably. Linens, blankets and pillows were provided. There was a fire pit, BBQ, picnic table with umbrella, covered platform, and a partition between campsites. There were plenty or outdoor activities to do such as swimming, tubing, kayaking, sports, and bike rentals. They had a gift shop and arcade on site as well. We unfortunately got hit with some pretty bad weather so we couldn't enjoy the grounds as much as we would have liked to but that was obviously not their fault. We had to evacuate the mountain our last evening because of really bad thunder and lightening but the ranger was very helpful and came around to warn us all and encourage us to be careful. They even refunded us for that last night. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a real "glamping" experience! You always see those fancy campsites on Pinterest or Instagram so now you can experience it yourself close to home if you live in NY.

We made the most of our rainy weekend by checking out the town and some caves. Plenty to do in the area of you want to venture out of the campgrounds but if you're there with good weather I doubt you will be bored!!

    Moose Hillock Camping Resorts

    Great place to stay

Sites are massive. Even though this is a private campground, each site is like it’s own private oasis with plenty of trees to make you feel like you are camping at most state campgrounds. You are not on top of your neighbor and can actually have some privacy. Great pool (actually boasts the largest heated pool in the Northeast US) and activities. super clean bathrooms and laundry. My only “knock” against is the fire pits. 3 haphazardly arranged rocks does not constitute a legitimate fire area.

Guide to Rexford

Rexford, New York campsites sit at elevations between 400-1,400 feet with many locations offering water access to lakes, ponds and the nearby Hudson River. Summer temperatures typically range from 55-85°F with periodic thunderstorms common during July and August. Winter camping opportunities are limited to a few select locations that maintain off-season access.

What to do

Hiking nearby trails: Moreau Lake State Park Campground provides access to over 20 miles of trails ranging from easy shoreline paths to challenging mountain routes. "The park has a large number of hiking trails for every level of outdoorsman and the staff is friendly and helpful," notes one visitor. Nearby Inman Pond Trail offers "a nice easy walk in the woods which takes you to a pretty pond good for fishing."

Water activities: Alpine Lake RV Resort offers direct lake access for fishing and paddle sports. As one camper explains, "Bring your boats and SUP boards for lots of fun! Grounds are large and well maintained. Hikers and water enthusiasts will live this place! Lots to explore." Many campgrounds maintain boat rentals during peak season.

Seasonal activities: DevilDoc Campsites provides year-round access with unique winter opportunities. "You'll have the entire mountain side all to yourself! Snowshoe, cross country ski. Winter campfires. Owners Mike and Sherri are great." Winter camping requires additional preparation but offers solitude rarely found during summer months.

What campers like

Private sites: Moose Hillock Camping Resorts receives consistent praise for site spacing and privacy. "The sites at this park are huge. You could have parked three RVs in our site. Added bonus is that there is nice separation between sites with trees and shrubs that block out your neighbors and provide lots of privacy."

Clean facilities: Max V. Shaul State Park Campground maintains exceptionally clean restroom facilities. "The bath house is clean and modern," reports one camper, while another states it has the "cleanest facilities ever!" New bathhouses were recently constructed, featuring family bathrooms and well-maintained shower areas.

Family amenities: Lake George RV Park offers extensive family-focused facilities. "Every facility was beautiful. We didn't even have to leave the park because there was always something to do," shares one visitor. Another noted, "Best part - the 2 acre dog park with shaded seating for humans, bathrooms and a dog wash station."

What you should know

Reservation requirements: Most campgrounds require advance booking, especially for weekend stays during peak summer months (late June through August). Lake George RV Park fills quickly, though one visitor noted, "We only stayed one night because we were passing thru but it was easy to get a spot!"

Price variations: Costs vary significantly between state parks and private resorts. Woodford State Park Campground offers more affordable rates while maintaining quality facilities. "Clean, quiet, relaxing great water views. The grounds and facilities are well kept," according to one visitor, making it a value option when compared to pricier private resorts.

Yurt camping options: Yurt camping near Rexford, New York provides a comfortable alternative for those seeking more structure than tent camping. Lake George Escape Campground offers yurts with convenient amenities. The campground has "different activities, a waterslide, peddle carts, kayaks and boats for rent, dancing, and teen specific activities too!" making it ideal for families seeking yurt accommodations.

Tips for camping with families

Activity planning: Lake George Escape Campground schedules regular activities for different age groups. "Great Camper camp ground! This place is great for families, it has different activities, a waterslide, peddle carts, kayaks and boats for rent, dancing, and teen specific activities too!" Consider midweek visits when facilities are less crowded.

Swimming options: Lake George RV Park maintains multiple swimming facilities for different ages. "Pools and hot tubs extremely clean and the grounds looked more like a hotel resort than campground. Free shows every night at the playhouse kids loved. Animal shows kept daytime events going strong. Water park was great, kids spent all day there."

Noise considerations: Woodford State Park Campground can be lively during peak season. "If you're looking for a quiet spot maybe don't look here. If you have kids and don't mind them making friends and roaming the campground then this is great!" For quieter family camping, consider non-holiday weekdays.

Tips from RVers

Site selection: Moreau Lake State Park Campground offers variable site sizes. "The road to our campsite was paved and in good shape but there were a few tight spots because of the trees that make it tricky for a big rig (Loop A seems to be the best for big-rigs)." Research site dimensions before booking, especially for larger units.

Utility connections: Alpine Lake RV Resort provides full hookups at most sites. "The RV sites were spacious and clean, with full hookups and easy access. Everything was well organized, and I appreciated the quiet atmosphere and friendly neighbors." Request a site away from the lake edge if traveling with young children, as some waterfront sites have steep drop-offs.

Access considerations: Moose Hillock Camping Resorts requires careful navigation for larger rigs. "The roads are narrow and many should be one way, but are not. It would have been impossible many places in the grounds to pass a rig on the road due to the amount of other's vehicles, golf carts, decorations etc... so patience is important when arriving and departing."
