      Fort Drum Recreation Area

      A beautiful place to stay

With my family and pets in tow, we took a weekend and committed it to nature and ourselves. Remington is a Military campground, but for the several military families looking to disconnect a couple of miles from home this would be it.

They offer regular camping sites and RV sites, they also have a dog park for the little furry ones.

It is easy to get to and several forms of outdoor entertainment.. Remington is a b autiful well kept place and I could spend my summer there.

      Delta Lake State Park Campground

      Delta Lake State Park

Delta Lake State Park sits at the foothills of the Adirondack Park, just outside Rome, New York. Pretty and well-kempt, Delta Lake is a nice option for those looking to stay close to home and within proximity to civilization. You can enjoy the great outdoors, while only being a few miles away from a restaurant or grocery store.

The campground isn‘t the best I’ve experienced, a bit on the crowded side-similar to a woodsy suburb- but this could have been distinctive to Loop A where I stayed. I stayed in site 35 and was intermixed with all the campers and RV’s, so it got a bit noisy. Not that restful, secluded experience I typically go for, but I should have planned further in advance.

However, what the park lacked in terms of its campground, it totally made up for in its beach, swimming and picnic areas! This place was awesome for hosting a birthday party for my niece and relaxing at the beach/ day facilities. They have plenty of picnic tables, charcoal grills, a huge beach and locker rooms. This is really a great place to spend a day with your family!

      Southwick Beach State Park Campground

Great part with tons of beach

There is TONS of beach to explore at this little State Park in New York. I used to visit here as a kid years ago because my grandparents owned a cottage on the lake. Since they sold it, visiting Southwick is the next best thing. Lake Ontario is an amazing lake to be on and the water is pretty warm in the summer time. the waves don't get too big, so it is very safe for kids. Southwick itself has great camping spots right next to the beach. It is a little pricey if you only want to visit for the day, $8, but you can get a tent spot for $18 which is comparable to other state parks. Showers are available, and there are some short trails that are good for running or probably cross country skiing in the winter. There is also a sizable playground near the beach that is great for the kids.

Yogi Bears Jellystone Park Camp Resort at Mexico

      Great Salmon fishing....Mexico NY

This is our 4th experience at a Jellystone. The campground was clean and staff was super nice. Organized the Halloween activities nicely. Yogi and the characters were very involved. For the fisherman, it's located on Salmon River and appears to have quite a lot of large salmon this time of year. I was shocked at the size of the fish that were being cleaned. My husband believes that area of the river was a private sector for the campground. Smaller campground than others I have been too but made it nice for kids to rides bikes safely since there weren't golf carts located at this campground. What I didn't enjoy as much. 1) The sites were muddy, especially when it had recently rained. Luckily we came after it rained and it had dried out some. 2) the dog park was a walking area, not a fenced in yard for them to let some of their energy out 3) No sewer hookups available but does had a dump station on your way out.

      Green Lakes State Park Campground

Green Lakes is a model state park

This is a great example of what a state park should be. It not only preserves a place of unique biological diversity and geologic interest, it is also well set up and well maintained to maximize low impact outdoor recreation and environmental education. A new state of the art regional environmental education center is being built now that will open in spring, as well as new handicapped access kayaking docks that complement Accessible trails and campsites throughout the park. This is a great destination for families, handicapped campers, and natural history enthusiasts. There are several campgrounds, one is large and open and meant for large RVs, others are drive-in forested tent sites or trailer sites with hookups, and several walkin sites. There is also a colony of rustic camper cabins. The campgrounds have brand new restroom facilities and playgrounds, and the main lake has a new beach house. The lake is a fascinating meromictic lake with clear calcium-rich waters that are not only pristine and beautiful to look at, but also great for swimming and snorkeling as the waters are crystal clear and very deep. There are hiking trails, paved bike trails, a nature preserve for bird watching at Round Lake, a golf course, and great kayaking or canoeing. It is also located right next door to the Erie Canal State Park for those who want to hike or bike the historic Erie Canal. Though you might expect a park like this to be in a remote location, it is actually just a short distance east of the suburbs of the Syracuse metro area, so it is an easy park to get to, plus staying there also provides easy access to stores for supplies, or access to local cultural activities or restaurants for those who want that. One of my favorite state parks in New York!

      Oneida Shores County Park

Campground was great, other patrons…not so much

My husband and I camped here from 6/17/22 - 6/19/22.

We had a great and relaxing time until Saturday evening when the three dogs at a neighboring site all slipped their collars and began running around the campground growling and charging at other patrons. One of them came at myself and my parents who were visiting. I absolutely came very close to being bit by a dog that was trying to charge at my mother but my husband intervened and began swinging a hot dog poker at the dog which caused it to bolt towards a campsite that had multiple little kids at it.

Someone called the Onondaga county police who came and spoke to the campground manager and I believe they warned the dog owners. But in the end the dogs were allowed to stay.

All in all we had a nice time. My only wish would be that the management would be more unaccepting of obviously dangerous pets.

There are mens and womens bathrooms, each with multiple stalls. Showers are available but a bit far from the actual campground. Water was warm but the water pressure wasn’t great. Ice and firewood for sale at the campsite.

      Selkirk Shores State Park Campground

      Beautiful View

We thought the campground was beautiful, tight to your neighbors on majority of sites, and lack of trash cans for pet waste especially since the campground is so big. It has ball field, 2 playgrounds, rec room, camp store, lake Ontario to swim, trails for multi use, and pavillions. Down fall for us was small site , lack of trash cans to toss pet waste, not being told about fill station because there is no water faucets like most state parks along campground. We were there for first time so not familiar with park. Office did not offer us a map to get to our site or clue us in on filling our tank prior to parking camper. Main gate personnel not on same information. bathrooms could be cleaned more often. bathhouse building is all gender with bathrooms on one side of building and showers on other. Bathroom and showers are private space rooms. Beach is very rocky with little sand area. Life guards only guard one side of beach making everyone crowded to one side

      Green Lakes State Park Campground

      "Green" Lakes

This is a very nice campground. There are many sites with electric available at every site. There are some sites with full hook-up available and also specific areas that allow pets. Swimming is available at the large beach. You can rent a kayak and enjoy the beautiful lake. There are miles of trails to explore. There is a camp store, laundry room, recreation room, playgrounds and much more.

    Guide to Pulaski

Pulaski, New York offers a variety of dog-friendly camping options along Lake Ontario's eastern shore where water levels can fluctuate seasonally, affecting beach access and campsite conditions. The region experiences significant temperature variations with summer highs averaging 80°F and potential for sudden storms off the lake. Most campgrounds in the area have designated pet exercise areas but enforce leash rules throughout common spaces.

    What to do

Fishing opportunities: At Stoneys Pineville Campground, campers have direct access to prime salmon fishing spots. "We have been out three is consecutively for salmon fishing and I have had a great time what a great place to stay," notes Eric F., who enjoyed the fishing-focused amenities. The campground is positioned strategically on the river for optimal catches.

Swimming in Lake Ontario: Several beaches provide swimming access with varying conditions. At Southwick Beach State Park Campground, the sandbar extends far into the water, creating a safe environment for families. As Theresa F. describes, "BEST beach in CNY-sandbar goes on forever," making it particularly good for those with children who need shallow water.

Golfing options: Streamside RV Park combines camping with a 12-hole golf course surrounding the campground. "There is a 12 hole golf coarse that surrounds the campground," explains B M., noting that many visitors are golfers. The course is well-maintained and accessible directly from campsites, providing convenient recreation without leaving the grounds.

    What campers like

Family activities: Yogi Bears Jellystone Park Camp Resort offers structured activities throughout the day. "Our family camps at Yogi on the river at least twice a year. We always attend candy bar bingo, lounge by the river, play games with friends, get the little ones in the bike parades, and hang out with the friendly owners," shares Cory W. The organized events provide entertainment regardless of weather conditions.

Quiet camping zones: Campgrounds often have designated quiet areas ideal for campers with pets who may be noise-sensitive. According to Laura M., "This campground is 4 different loops- A loop is like the loop for people here for fishing, B loop is the mellower crowd, and C and D were our nightmares: mass chaos, children running amok, loud groups." Knowing which loops or sections to request can significantly improve your experience.

Clean facilities: The region's campgrounds maintain high cleanliness standards. At Bass Lake Resort, Frank W. simply states it's a "Clean friendly just a great place to camp." Regular cleaning schedules and well-maintained bathhouses are common across most pet-friendly campgrounds near Pulaski.

    What you should know

Site spacing varies: Campsite proximity differs significantly between campgrounds. Thomas R. notes about Brennan Beach: "About 10 yards to the next campsite in either direction, zero privacy," which is common in RV-focused resorts. Consider site spacing when booking if traveling with pets that need more room.

Seasonal closures: Most campgrounds operate seasonally from May through mid-October, with exact dates varying. Brennan Beach operates May 1 to October 15, while Southwick Beach runs May 13 to October 9. Weather in early spring and fall can be unpredictable, with cooler temperatures requiring additional preparation for pet comfort.

Variable pet policies: Ontario Shores RV Park allows pets but has specific walking areas. Tim W. mentions there's an "Open field to walk the dog or for children," making it convenient for exercising pets. Most campgrounds require vaccination records and enforce leash rules, but restrictions on specific breeds or number of pets vary.

    Tips for camping with families

Look for dedicated children's activities: Jellystone Park offers structured programs specifically for children. Michael O. shares, "So many activities for the kids, a great pool, mini-golf, parades, just non stop action to keep them going and tire them out!" These organized activities provide entertainment while allowing parents downtime.

Consider bathroom proximity: When camping with young children, select sites near bathhouses. Bella J. points out at Southwick Beach that "Sites are on top of each other & there's no boarders inbetween," but notes "The beach area & bathhouses were nice though." Bathhouses with family-friendly facilities make middle-of-the-night bathroom trips more manageable.

Check playground quality: J and J Campground features both a pool and playground area. Andrew H. describes it as having "a pool and playground. Clean shower and toilet bath house recently renovated," providing multiple recreation options for children when not at the beach.

    Tips from RVers

Full hookup availability: Most dog-friendly campgrounds near Pulaski offer full hookups, but availability varies by site. At Brennans Bay Campground and Marina, Jim G. notes it has "Mostly Permanent sites with 6 transient sites overlooking the marina," so booking early is essential for full hookup access.

Level sites: Site levelness impacts setup time and comfort. B M. reports that at Streamside RV Park, "All sites are a back in site yet it was long enough for us to stay hooked up. We had full hook up." Concrete patio sites are available at several campgrounds, providing stable surfaces regardless of weather conditions.

Electric service variations: Amperage options differ between campgrounds and even between sites. Frank W. observed at Selkirk Shores that it's a "Nice place to camp all electric no water hook ups," highlighting the importance of confirming exactly what hookups are available when making reservations.
