Best Campgrounds near Victor, NY

The Finger Lakes region surrounding Victor, New York encompasses diverse camping options ranging from full-service RV resorts to primitive tent sites. Canandaigua-Rochester KOA in nearby Farmington provides tent camping, RV sites with full hookups, and cabin rentals with modern amenities including showers and Wi-Fi. Letchworth State Park, known as the "Grand Canyon of the East," offers a more immersive nature experience with multiple campground loops featuring tent sites, RV hookups, and cabins amid dramatic gorge landscapes. Several privately operated campgrounds like Stay Bristol Woodlands and Red's Twilight on the Erie RV Resort provide additional options within a 20-mile radius of Victor.

Most developed campgrounds in the region operate seasonally from April through October, with some extending slightly into November. Reservations are strongly recommended, particularly for summer weekends and fall foliage season when occupancy frequently reaches capacity. Webster Park and Ontario County Park at Gannett Hill maintain well-developed facilities with electric hookups, drinking water, and shower buildings, though primitive backcountry sites may have more limited amenities. The region's weather patterns include relatively mild summers and cold winters with significant snowfall, making spring and fall particularly popular for camping. "The parks are stunning and fit for camping whether you're in a tent, RV or choosing to rent a gorgeous cabin. There are many walking and hiking trails for adventurers of all types," noted one visitor reviewing Letchworth State Park.

Many campgrounds in the Finger Lakes area feature water access as a primary attraction, with sites at Canandaigua Lake, Seneca Lake, and Keuka Lake particularly sought after. Mixed-use campgrounds throughout the region provide varying levels of privacy, with some visitors noting that sites on the outer loops tend to offer more seclusion than interior locations. One camper at Webster Park observed that "the campground is very quiet and very kid friendly to allow them to walk around and ride or scooter the loop alone." Visitors frequently mention the region's proximity to wineries, hiking trails, and waterfalls as key advantages, with Letchworth State Park's gorge trails and multiple waterfalls receiving consistent praise. Campgrounds closer to Victor provide convenient access to Rochester's amenities while maintaining a natural setting.

Ontario County Park at Gannett Hill

    Inexpensive, Peaceful.

I've stayed here on 3 separate occasions, twice in RV 12 and once in RV 6.

I used the 30 AMP hookup and had zero issues.

Beautiful playground for my son to enjoy and meet other kiddos. Deer, chipmunks and rabbits will say hi in the early and late hours.

    Large dumpsters near entrance.

Dump stations are present, but I haven't used them yet.

Potable water is present at a small spigot.

The washrooms facility is very close and speaking for the men's side, it had 2 stalls, 2 urinals, 2 showers, multiple sinks, and a sturdy baby changing station.

Hiking trails with gorgeous views of the valley within a 5 min walk of my campsite.

    Hamlin Beach State Park Campground

    Relaxing 2 weeks

The camp store is closed along with no firewood and no laundry.

We stayed for 2 weeks and it was so relaxing. We loved biking through the loops and by the beach at the park. There was live music at the park during the week. The campground has an activity room full of things to do. As a state park, there are a lot of different people with different values, so be ready for the occasional obnoxious family. Our site was secluded and in the pines. We love it here and will definitely do this again!

    Stay Bristol Woodlands

    Well maintained and friendly Staff!

Campground is adorable, you can see a lot of other campers, but the spots are spaced out. Showers were nice, didn’t get to try the pool out as it was a quick stopover, but this seems like a fun place to spend some time

    Canandaigua-Rochester KOA

    Lovely KOA

The campground is clean and well maintained. The staff are ALL so nice. The amenities are plentiful and well cared for. The sites are level, in great shape, and has a wonderful large wooded area. Thank you!

    Finger Lakes National Forest

Quiet site near a small pond

The road in (a loop) is steep on both sides (a truck or vehicle with clearance would be helpful but you could also park at the bottom if you needed to). The site was trashy so we picked up a lot of what we could. A bonus—the site was quiet, roomy and once at the ‘top’ is quite level. Not vehicles came in or out all night (and it was a Saturday!).

Bluff Camping Area — Fair Haven Beach State Park

Shaded camping with Great Lake access

I booked this site for one night and ended up staying three. Trying to avoid the heat, I was relieved that the shaded electric camping area staved off most of the days heat. I was in site 63 the first night and 68 the other two. 63 has more shade but 68 is right next to the bathroom and water spout if that’s important. I was able to find shade.

Some people may find the sites too close together, I didn’t mind since I’m solo camping and feel a bit of safety with closer neighbors. The loop was majority RVs and campers but it was still quiet all night and until late morning.

The showers and bathrooms are mostly clean and well stocked and there is a dedicated sink outside the building for dishes.

What I really loved is how far into the park the camping is, you’re really surrounded by woods. There is also excellent and easy access to Lake Ontario.

The park store has firewood, ice, and lots of other items like corn hole for rent. There is also a small boat shanty for boat rentals.

    SutterCreek Campground

    Close to the Ren Fest.

Sutter Creek is a 4 minute drive to the Renaissance Festival. The camp was very quiet and the owners were friendly and helpful. The activity room is for seasonal people only. The showers get locked at night, so prepare to showers in the AM. There are swings and a tether ball for the kids. Golf carts look to be welcome there, but it's not that big.

Camping spots near Victor, New York offer access to a unique landscape shaped by ancient glaciers that carved out the Finger Lakes region. The area sits at elevations ranging from 600 to 1,900 feet above sea level, creating varied terrain for campers to explore. Most campgrounds in the Victor area maintain quiet hours from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m., allowing visitors to enjoy peaceful nights under starry skies that reach peak visibility during moonless summer nights.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Canandaigua-Rochester KOA has a fishing pond where catching fish is notably easy. "This KOA has all that you need for a relaxing family trip. It is close to the finger lakes, is clean, has kid activities and a pond where the fish are easy to catch with hotdogs!" notes Amy T.

Outdoor game options: Many campgrounds near Victor offer lawn games and recreational facilities. At Junius Ponds, visitors appreciate the "nice yard games area with many options" according to Kristine B., who also mentioned that even teenagers enjoyed the playground facilities.

Hiking trail access: The region offers extensive trail networks with varying difficulty levels. At Ontario County Park at Gannett Hill, visitors can access trails directly from campsites. "Lots of trails at the park for hikers, mountain bikers and trail runners. Follow the Finger Lakes Trail all the way into town," explains Danielle P.

What campers like

Privacy levels: While site privacy varies across campgrounds, some locations offer more secluded options. At Webster Park, "We stay on the outer ring on that side of loop as it gives access to the woods and trails behind the sites," shares Scott C., highlighting how site selection affects privacy.

Clean facilities: Maintenance standards receive consistent positive feedback across camping areas. At Stay Bristol Woodlands, one camper noted, "Site was level and well equipped (waste water disposal attach site!) Bathrooms clean and fully functional."

Community atmosphere: Many campgrounds foster a friendly environment. "The campground is clean and well maintained. The staff are ALL so nice. The amenities are plentiful and well cared for," writes Ken B. about Canandaigua-Rochester KOA, reflecting the welcoming atmosphere campers experience.

What you should know

Site leveling requirements: Terrain varies significantly between campgrounds. At Ontario County Park, Jonathan G. advises to "make sure to bring plenty of leveling blocks as some sites are far from level."

Reservation timing: The popularity of camping spots near Victor, New York means advanced planning is essential. For Letchworth State Park Campground, Rebecca E. emphasizes "Book early" as a key tip, indicating high demand for sites.

Cell service limitations: Connectivity varies throughout the region. Carl C. reports about Webster Park: "Cell phone coverage is poor by Verizon and T-Mobile, and there is no WiFi, and no camp store (but the town of Webster is nearby)."

Road conditions: Some campgrounds have challenging internal roads. At Junius Ponds, Kristine B. notes, "The roads are narrow and hilly, but we pull a 36' 5th wheel (mid-profile) and we had no issues with branches."

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: When camping with children, site proximity to play areas matters. Scott C. recommends: "We stay close to the playground these days in our pop up usually at site 5 so our 5 and 9 year old can walk or ride to campground."

Kid-friendly activities: Family-oriented campgrounds schedule regular events. At Red's Twilight on the Erie RV Resort, Rachel T. mentions they provide "plenty of activities for the family on the weekends" and notes "Kids on bikes and having a good time in the enormous play area."

Safety considerations: Supervised recreation areas allow appropriate independence for children. Webster Park receives praise from Scott C. who notes: "The campground is very quiet and very kid friendly to allow them to walk around and ride or scooter the loop alone."

Tips from RVers

Site selection strategy: RVers should consider specific site locations for comfort. Frank M. observed at Canandaigua-Rochester KOA that "The sites for large rigs are very close together but that is not surprising. Our site was clean and reasonably level but there was no shade at all."

Hookup logistics: Water access points are sometimes shared between sites. Craig J. from Monroe County Webster Park advises: "Two-headed water spigots are shared by 2 sites, which worked reasonably well; we were glad we had an extra hose to reach back to our camper."

Seasonal considerations: Many RV sites throughout the Victor area have differing levels of seasonal occupancy. Ryan D. notes about Junius Ponds: "A would be beautiful campground is over run with seasonal campers," indicating the permanent resident population affects the camping experience.
