Cabin rentals near Mechanicville, New York offer seasonal access from May through October, with most properties situated within 30 miles of town. The Adirondack foothills location provides elevation changes from 200 feet in the river valleys to over 1,400 feet at certain campgrounds. Winter cabin options are limited, with Frosty Acres being one of the few locations offering off-season accommodations at its higher elevation site.
What to do
Hiking trails: Moreau Lake State Park Campground provides over 20 miles of trails ranging from easy walks to challenging climbs. "I love the spacious campsites. It's very woodsy between sites, so it seems very private. Bathrooms and Showers are clean. Over 20 miles in hiking trails, this is one of the nicest parks, I've visited," notes Michi P.
Water activities: Lake George RV Park offers biking trails that connect to local routes leading to Lake George Village. "Fantastic stay! There is a trolley to get around the camp ground as well as to the local outlets. Fun family activities and quite a few pools to relax in," reports Michelle D.
Winter recreation: Frosty Acres Campground provides winter cabins for cold-weather enthusiasts. "We stayed from April until October then decided to stay over winter. They have a small winter section. You'll have the entire mountain side all to yourself! Snowshoe, cross country ski. Winter campfires," shares James S.
What campers like
Private sites: Moose Hillock Camping Resorts features unusually spacious cabin and camping areas. "Sites are huge. Plenty of room for our RV, and small tent. Private. Can't say enough about the pool. We had multi-generations camping. From the great grandmother to 2 1/2 yr toddler we all enjoyed the pool," says Julie E.
Quiet locations: Rustic Barn Campground provides a more secluded experience away from crowds. "Amazing place off the beaten path but still an easy drive to SPAC. We had a nice secluded site for our van. Off grid but with good sun for solar. Matt, the host, is so nice and made sure we had everything we needed," writes Jen J.
Diverse swimming options: Alpine Lake RV Resort offers both lake swimming and pools. "The entire resort is beautiful and well-maintained, with peaceful surroundings and stunning natural scenery. The lake views are especially breathtaking — perfect for early morning coffee or sunset stroll," according to The L.
What you should know
Seasonal considerations: Some cabins close entirely during winter months. Woodford State Park operates from "Memorial Day weekend to Columbus Day weekend" with limited availability for popular cabin units.
Reservation policies: Woodford State Park Campground cabins book quickly during peak season. "We unexpectedly had a free Saturday afternoon and night and 2 borrowed kayaks. This was our first visit to Woodford. Site 13 was the only one available," explains Melissa S.
Leveling requirements: Terrain at some parks requires preparation. "Our site was large and shaded. The draw back is where you need to park the camper is about 7 inches out of level. If we stay in the same site again we would come better prepared," advises Lauren from Adventure Bound Camping Resort.
Tips for camping with families
Water park options: Adventure Bound Camping Resort includes water attractions specifically designed for children. "Family oriented. The kids loved love water attractions. Our site was large and shaded," notes Lauren.
Organized activities: Moreau Lake State Park Campground provides recreational facilities beyond just swimming. "Nice sandy beach with lifeguard hours. Facilities are relatively modern but still basic, nice and clean. Most sites aren't right along the lake but it's still so close," explains Amber A.
Noise levels: Woodford State Park has mixed reviews regarding quiet. "If you're looking for a quiet spot maybe don't look here. If you have kids and don't mind them making friends and roaming the campground then this is great! Boat rentals!" advises J L.
Tips from RVers
Bathroom accessibility: Alpine Lake RV Resort has limited accessible facilities. "I was hoping to be able to use the bathrooms and showers since I broke my foot and in a walking boot and using a shower chair. But not only were they yuk there were absolutely no handicap stalls in the closest bathroom," reports Stacie.
Site selection: Lake George RV Park layout requires careful planning. "Sites are pretty close together but we went so early in the season we didn't have anyone on either side of us - in fact I think we were the only people there that weren't seasonal," shares Brandilyn W. from Adventure Bound.
Utility fluctuations: Water pressure can vary during peak usage times. "Had an issue with water pressure on Saturday around 10am and called the office to make sure there was not a known water issue. Front desk knew nothing and said they would send maintenance but we never saw anyone. The situation improved so we think it was just a high demand time of day," notes April L.
