    Canandaigua-Rochester KOA

    Camping near Canandaigua, New York

Campers exploring the Canandaigua area discover a delightful mix of lakeside retreats, wooded state parks, and family-friendly RV resorts. Just minutes from downtown, Canandaigua City Park Campground offers easy access to local shops and the lakefront beach, making it a convenient base for those who want town amenities within walking distance. A short drive farther out leads to Keuka Lake State Park Campground and the privately owned Canandaigua-Rochester KOA, both of which feature spacious sites, clean facilities, and excellent opportunities for swimming, kayaking, and fishing on the Finger Lakes. For those seeking a quieter experience, numerous backcountry and dispersed sites are tucked into the surrounding National Forest, where campers can truly unplug—though it’s essential to bring all necessary supplies and practice Leave No Trace principles. Ontario County Park at Gannett Hill and the Stay Bristol Woodlands campground blend rustic charm with modern comforts: well-maintained restrooms, picnic shelters, and on-site hiking trails that wind through hardwood forests and offer scenic overlooks, especially stunning during fall foliage season. Travel logistics are a breeze when visitors prearrange an airport shuttle from Rochester or Syracuse airports, ensuring a smooth transition from plane to campsite. And for adventurers mapping out multiple stops across the Finger Lakes or beyond, reliable multi-city transfers provide comfortable, door-to-door rides—no rental car necessary. With its blend of waterfront sites, wooded hideaways, and nearby attractions—wineries, waterfalls, and historic villages—the Canandaigua region truly has something for every type of camper. Whether pitching a tent under the stars or rolling in with an RV, visitors will find endless opportunities for adventure and relaxation.

    Darien Lakes State Park Campground

    Clean/Quiet Campground

9/25-9/29/22- The park was nearly empty, perhaps 6 or 8 other campers widely spread out. It was immaculate and the sites well spaced apart. All site have a picnic table and fire pit. Ours had both 30A and 50A power, was pretty level left/right but about 6” high in front before we leveled our 34’ fifth wheel. The park has drinking water faucets at a variety of places throughout, but site#15 has a faucet directly next to it, so we had water available too. Both AT&T 4G and Verizon 5G had 3 bars reception. The dump station was clean and convenient. It looked like a great place for kids that included at least one (probably more) playground.

    Colden Lakes Resort

    Beautiful Campground

This a beautiful campground with very friendly staff. Our site was a level gravel back in site. The back in sites are very wide and roomy, the pull through sites are a little closer together. There are 4 small pristine lakes. It’s about an hour from Niagara Falls and out in the Country, very quiet and peaceful. Would definitely come back

    Letchworth State Park Campground

    Beautiful place

Letchworth is absolutely stunning. The views are beautiful, however the scenic areas are at least a 10 minute drive from the campground. The park is massive.

There is a huge variation in site sizes. We lucked out and got a large site with privacy and an area for the kids to run around, however the site directly across from us was little more than the gravel pad and fire pit. Some of the sites are right on top of each other. Great for group camping, not so much if you want any privacy.

Only two out of the 8 loops (200 and 700 loops) have updated bathrooms (single toilet with handheld showers in half of the bathrooms). The others loops have older facilities with three traditional toilet stalls and two showers.

We loved our site but would’ve preferred to stay in a loop with the updated bath houses as we have younger children and a tent trailer.

All sites have electricity. Some loops are pet friendly, some are pet free. The camp store has a good selection of necessities, albeit expensive for discount brands. The pool is 4-5 miles down the road from the camping area.

    Would absolutely camp here again.

    Southwoods RV Resort

    Enjoyed our stay

We stayed at Southwoods while visiting the Rochester, NY area and exploring attractions in the area. The campground is about 20-25 miles from downtown Rochester and located in a quiet rural setting surrounded by farmland. The campground is quite large and has separate sections for seasonal and transient campers and has a variety of different campsites from back-ins to pull-thrus, 50 to 30-amps, and full hook-up to water and electric only. The campground manager was very nice and helpful when we checked in and was able to extend our stay thru the weekend without us having to move sites. The park is gated and very clean and well-groomed.  Overall, we enjoyed our stay at Southwoods and would stay there again if we were in the area.

We chose a back-in 50-amp full hook-up site (M28) at $42/night. All the utilities were placed appropriately so we didn’t need any extensions. The water pressure and electric were good. Most of the roads in the park are paved with the exception of the pull-thru section in the front of the park (N12-N25) which is gravel. All campsite pads are gravel except for three long pull-thrus that are paved(M24-M26).

We had a fire pit and picnic table and there was nice grass between sites. There was free WiFi which worked well except during peak hours and over the weekend when the park was full. We stayed four nights (which included a weekend) and experienced the park going from half full and quiet to packed with lots of music, all-day fires, and big gatherings. In the back section of the park is a very large group/rally area with sixty sites and a large pavilion for gatherings. All sites in that section are on grass and water/electric.

The campground has lots of amenities like two swimming pools, nice camp store (with lots of food, souvenirs, and gifts), a large playground, miniature golf, sand volleyball and basketball courts, large recreation hall/wedding venue, bicycle track, and game room. There is a short nature trail through a wooded area. They have a busy events calendar throughout the year with lots of get-togethers. During our stay they had a closing weekend pizza and wings party with live music for a small fee. We chose not to go to the party but went to a local historic steak house (The Johnson House) and had delicious prime rib instead (which was very good) for a lot more money!

One downside of this park is that the sites are pretty close and feel a little cramped when the park is full. There is a train track near the park which occasionally is quite noisy. Rochester is about a 45-minute drive but the town of Batavia is about 15 minutes away and has groceries, fuel, restaurants, shopping, etc.

Jellystone Park™ of Western New York

Camping resort in the middle of nowhere

There was a great WiFi connection, so it was difficult to get my boys to go explore! We have a 35 foot travel trailer and had zero difficulty backing into a W/E spot. Gravel pads, decent space between RVs. We did need our extra hose to reach our spigot but I think that was unusual. The dump station was easy to get to and clean when we left.

Playgrounds, beach, mini-golf, dog park, bounce pillow, basketball, volleyball, movie nights, wagon rides twice a day with Jellystone characters, lots of daily activities, water park, kayaks, SUP’s, canoes, LIFEGUARDS!... ALL INCLUDED. My kids did mini-golf 4 times. Snack bar (with good wings and delivers!). Golf cart rentals. What was I most impressed with? Trash pickup. You put it in front of your site, somebody picked it up. Any time of day.

There were three types of cabins I saw, but didn’t go inside. You could fish in the pond. The website says Laser Tag but we didn’t explore that far. The town is teeny tiny so no good grocery store around. The grounds were well kept. Niagara Falls were a little more than an hour away. Great day trip!

We we will come back next year and bring our cousins!

    Keuka Lake State Park Campground

    Wonderful Finger Lakes Camping

Large grassy sites with privacy between the sites. Most sites have a good level gravel pad to park on.

We stayed in the non-electric loop with a small travel trailer, but there are electric sites available. Spigots for water are spaced well enough that with a few lengths you can fill up.

The hike to the beach wasn't too bad through the woods, with ones being a grassy walking path and the other being a dirt trail through the woods. The beach is typically crowded.

This is a place I would always recommend.

Guide to Hunt

RV sites near Hunt, New York provide camping options throughout the Genesee Valley region, where elevations range from 500 to 1,300 feet above sea level. The camping season typically runs from early May through mid-October, with most parks closing for winter due to Western New York's lake-effect snow patterns. Nighttime temperatures can drop significantly even in summer months, often reaching the 50s.

What to do

Water activities: near Jellystone Park™ of Western New York offers fishing, kayaking and swimming opportunities. "There is a dog park as well," notes camper Sara H. The park recently added "a beach to their pond and allows swimming," according to Amy T.

Holiday celebrations: Many campgrounds host special events during peak holidays. At Jellystone Park, "We went on the 4th of July and they had amazing fireworks and activities galore for the kids," reports Matthew M.

Mini golf and games: Several campgrounds feature recreation facilities for families. At Skyline RV Resort, campers appreciate the "clean and well maintained" facilities, though Paul G. notes, "a little tight if you like to spread out."

What campers like

Quiet rural settings: Southwoods RV Resort receives praise for its peaceful environment. "The campground is about 20-25 miles from downtown Rochester and located in a quiet rural setting surrounded by farmland," writes Nancy W. Many campers appreciate the well-maintained grounds and facilities.

Clean facilities: Campground cleanliness ranks high for visitors. "Bathrooms were very clean. Quiet campground. Lots of plays areas for kids," notes Sydney W. about Southwoods RV Resort.

Seasonal activities: Maple Lane RV Park provides convenient access to local events. "We stayed here on 9/19 after spending the day hiking at Letchworth. Went into town on Sunday for a market street festival which was small given COVID guidelines but nice," shares Jan F.

What you should know

Site configurations: Many parks offer various hookup options based on needs. "The campground is quite large and has separate sections for seasonal and transient campers and has a variety of different campsites from back-ins to pull-thrus, 50 to 30-amps, and full hook-up to water and electric only," explains Nancy W.

Space considerations: When parks fill up, expect closer quarters. At Red Rock Ponds RV Resort, campers report "It was kinda close to other campers. Geared toward more seasonal campers," according to Eric B.

Reservation timing: Book well in advance for holiday weekends and summer high season. Many campgrounds have limited availability for non-seasonal campers, with some parks catering primarily to long-term stays.

Tips for camping with families

Activity planning: Choose campgrounds with built-in entertainment options. "There is something for everyone at this campground. They made recent additions that are awesome," states Amy T. about Jellystone Park, which offers "water park, fishing, kayaking, swimming."

Budget considerations: Account for activity fees beyond site costs. "Expect to pay higher rates, however, because you are being charged for more than just a campsite. There's all the 'extras,'" explains Erin H. about Jellystone Park.

Noise levels: Some family-friendly parks prioritize activities over tranquility. "Would not recommend to someone looking for silence or just passing through," adds Erin H. Another camper notes, "Down side is it is very busy if your looking to relax."

Tips from RVers

Site leveling: Be prepared for uneven sites at some parks. At Red's Twilight on the Erie RV Resort, "Almost all of the sites are not even close to level. Not a big issue with a fifth wheel but a real hassle with a motorcoach. We changed sites three times and finally resigned ourselves to not being leveled," cautions Donna C.

Local services: Know where to find supplies in rural areas. "Rochester is about a 45-minute drive but the town of Batavia is about 15 minutes away and has groceries, fuel, restaurants, shopping, etc.," shares Nancy W. about services near Southwoods.

Weather preparation: Pack for variable conditions, as temperatures can swing 30+ degrees between day and night. Western New York weather patterns can bring sudden rain even during summer months.
