    Chenango Valley State Park Campground

Well maintained NY state campground; good for family camping

We were just passing through on a rainy night, but this park would be a good choice for a multi-night stay.

    Activities for a Multi-Day Stay

    • Swimming in the lake, golfing, boating, fishing, multi-use trails for hiking or mountain biking

    • You're only about 20 minutes from the Binghamton/Johnson City area. For us, that means food and craft beer.

Sites in the Chipmunk Camping Area

    • Parking pads in the non-electric section are dirt/grass. Some of the pads are short; this section is geared toward tent campers. We found a site long enough to easily accommodate our vehicle and teardrop trailer (30 ft total) since we didn't want to detach for a one night stay. Even if the pad wasn't that long, there are other pads wide enough to handle a vehicle and trailer like ours side by side.

    • Parking pads in the electric loops (30 amps and 50 amps) have a good amount of gravel.

    • We usually prefer sites on the outer part of a loop, and this was no exception. The sites have more trees.

    Amenities

    • Electricity at about 1/3 of the sites

    • Pretty good restrooms/showers

    • Water spigots on the loops and more water at the dump station

    • Trash disposal

    • Playground at the beach area, not the campground

    Wildlife

    • Beware of raccoons. They are brazen thieves here...and every campground they inhabit. Just don't leave your food out.

    • The park brochure warns of the occasional bear but that's true even in towns all over NY. I doubt you'll see one.

    • Deer are all over. Watch out for them on the roads. We had four that were feeding behind our site in the morning.

    Finger Lakes RV Resort

Beautiful new spacious RV resort in excellent location.

We arrived on Saturday, 10.8.22 and are staying for a week. This is a delightful location. Rachel and Doug are cheerful, attentive, and very personable owners who are on-site at almost all times. This park just opened this year, so we checked in at an entrance building that they're using until their primary building is complete. We were greeted with delicious cookies, our site(#9) backs up to a wooded area(with a hiking path buried in there) with a lot of space. We booked early, which was a good thing because they were 100% full for Indigenous People's Day. We chose this site because there was a lot of room around it and we're used to really tightly packed RV parks. But what we found is that all of the sites are very nicely spread out with generous spacing, so that's not an issue. It's still nice to be on the outskirts. We also chose this section per a review we read to be away from the main road noise, but there really isn't much road noise to worry about, anyway. The WiFi is strong and consistent. We're using 30amps, but they also have 20 and 50amp service to each site. The water pressure is great. The bath house is new and very comfortable. Each site has a picnic table, a fire ring and lots of room for big rigs. We watched Doug neaten up sites after other RV's vacated, which shows an attention to detail we don't often find. They also drive by each site every morning to collect trash and recycling. The sunsets are spectacular over the lake(we can't see the lake from here, but it's close). There are numerous award-winning wineries surrounding us and up and down the lake. We're headed out for tastings today. We've been hiking the last few days- Watkins Glen State Park- Gorge Trail(go early or it gets REALLY crowded), Taughannock State Park- Gorge& North Ridge Trail over on Cayuga Lake, and a concert(Rufus Wainwright) at Point of the Bluff Winery over on Keuka Lake. We stopped afterward for dinner in Hammondsport at Timber Stone Grill which was truly wonderful. That's about 35- 45 minutes away. Lots more hiking trails to do in the National Forest and surrounding areas. And there's Watkins Glen, a charming town just minutes away. We highly recommend Finger Lakes RV Resort and we'll be back!

Blueberry Patch Campground — Green Mountain & Finger Lakes National Forests

    Simple

The only Finger Lakes National Forest designated campground, Blueberry Patch offers a secluded experience in the heart of this sometimes overlooked beautiful geographic region in the State of New York. This campground offers a simple experience, with fire rings and picnic tables at each site and seems to accommodate just tent and small campers. Vault toilets available. On a week day in early summer, 3 of the 9 campsites we’re occupied. Can see it filling up on weekends. Enjoy!

    Watkins Glen State Park Campground

Watkins Glen State Park, New York

Campers arriving at Watkins Glen State Park are immediately captivated by its dramatic gorge scenery, where 19 waterfalls cascade through narrow stone walls. Their campsites are nestled among hardwood forests, offering a perfect balance of sunlit clearings and shady retreats. Each site comes equipped with a picnic table and fire ring, making it easy to prepare meals after a day spent exploring the park’s famous Gorge Trail. The park’s facilities blend rustic charm with modern comforts: clean flush toilets, hot-water showers, and convenient potable water stations. Hiking enthusiasts appreciate the interconnected trail system, which includes the popular Rim Trail for elevated views of the gorge, as well as more secluded footpaths through hemlock groves. Families particularly enjoy the nearby swimming pool and easy-access picnic areas overlooking Seneca Lake. To simplify travel logistics for out-of-state visitors, many campers opt to pre-book an airport transfer so they can arrive at Ithaca or Elmira–Corning Regional Airport and head straight to the park without the hassle of car rentals. Those planning to explore multiple stops along the Finger Lakes often choose the provider’s reliable city-to-city rides for comfortable, door-to-door transportation between destinations. All in all, Watkins Glen State Park delivers an unforgettable combination of awe-inspiring gorge hikes, well-appointed campsites, and family-friendly amenities. Campers seeking both adventure and relaxation will find this New York treasure hard to surpass.

The Villages RV Park at Turning Stone

Great One Night Stop - Would Have Stayed Longer!

We scheduled a pull through for 1 night last minute due to an unexpected change in plans. We are a full-time traveling family (2 kids - 8 & 13) and 2 English Bulldogs. We have a Class A motorhome and flat tow a Jeep. The campground was beautiful and easy to get in and out of. The sites were level and great size with nice spacing in between. The location was nice too! We did head over to the casino briefly and enjoyed that. We also took a drive to the University of Syracuse to tour the campus. Clean and wonderful park. Would definitely recommend.

    Keuka Lake State Park Campground

    Wonderful Finger Lakes Camping

Large grassy sites with privacy between the sites. Most sites have a good level gravel pad to park on.

We stayed in the non-electric loop with a small travel trailer, but there are electric sites available. Spigots for water are spaced well enough that with a few lengths you can fill up.

The hike to the beach wasn't too bad through the woods, with ones being a grassy walking path and the other being a dirt trail through the woods. The beach is typically crowded.

This is a place I would always recommend.

    Watkins Glen / Corning KOA

    Don’t waste your money

The website shows pics of a really nice campground but on arrival you’ll find otherwise. We got lucky and got a good site with shade but most sites are tiny and wide open. The full hookups were good, there was a concrete pad and nice fire ring in our site. Otherwise the facility was very poorly maintained, it looked like 20 years ago it was nice but nothing has been done since. The place is truly a dump and for $115 a night I expected a nice place. Incredibly disappointed

What to do

Hiking gorge trails: At Fillmore Glen State Park Campground, campers can explore multiple waterfalls along scenic trails. Fishing opportunities: Several campgrounds provide fishing access, with Pine Valley RV Park offering lakeside sites where you can fish directly from your campsite. "Lakeside sites are spacious and reasonably priced. The owners are always accessible," notes a long-time visitor who has been camping there for over 15 years.

Another adds that the location provides "easy access to the wineries, distilleries, and breweries along the lake."

Antique hunting: Butternut Hill RV Campground hosts special antique shows and regional events throughout summer. "The campground is adjacent to the festival fields, lining a forest edge with expansive views of the surrounding valley," notes a visitor who attended the Central New York Fiber Festival.

What campers like

Resort-quality amenities: Higher-end facilities provide unexpected luxuries. "The bath house is immaculate and rivals those at Fort Wilderness Resort," reports one Finger Lakes RV Resort visitor, who also appreciated "easy maneuverability, great wifi and water pressure, along with level sites."

Fresh farm experiences: Woonton Family Farms provides a unique alternative to traditional rv parks. "We had an excellent stay at the farm of the Woonton Family Farms with our RV, it was a cozy and beautiful campsite with personal attention of the owner. We had a great campfire, fresh blackberries and the option of canoeing," recalls a Dutch family who appreciated the difference from "common/look-alike campgrounds."

What you should know

Seasonal closures: Most campgrounds operate from May through mid-October. Owasco Hill RV Campground runs from May 15 to October 15, while Pine Valley RV Park operates from May 1 to September 30. Winter camping options are extremely limited in the area.

Reservation timing: Popular campgrounds fill quickly during peak periods. "During the main season, this place is nuts! You'll definitely need to plan ahead and make reservations if you plan to be here on the weekends during the silly season," advises a visitor to Fillmore Glen State Park.

Noise considerations: Rail lines near some campgrounds can affect the camping experience. At The Villages RV Park at Turning Stone, "the only real negatives would be the proximity to some railroad tracks, which can be somewhat active and very audible in some spots (you'll want to stay towards the south / front of the park if this kind of thing bothers you)."

Site privacy variations: Spruce Row Campground has limited spacing between sites. "The campground is primarily seasonal sites and the sites are very close together," notes one visitor who stayed during July 4th week, adding that "Lots of golf carts after whizzing around and due to our campsite location they unfortunately were able to shine their lights on us every time they turned the corner after dark."

Tips for camping with families

Swimming activities: Multiple water features keep children entertained. Pine Valley RV Park offers unique water recreation opportunities: "So many things for kids to do. From boating, to giant swimming inflatables, putt putt even a giant slide. All part of the price of the campground," explains an enthusiastic parent.

Playground access: Riverside RV Campground and other area facilities provide play areas within view of campsites. At Fillmore Glen, "The grassy field is great for kiddos to run-amok and there is a playground at the far end of it so parents can keep an eye on the kids while enjoying time with their friends and family."

Natural swimming areas: State park campgrounds often feature unique swimming options. "Kids loved the park and swimming in the waterfall beach," mentions a family camper at Fillmore Glen State Park, which offers "a gorgeous natural pool with lifeguard."

Educational opportunities: Several campgrounds provide nature trails with learning opportunities. The Fillmore Glen area includes "a cabin on site that is the replica of Millard Filmore's youth (13th President of the United States)," providing historical context for family visits.

Tips from RVers

Site selection strategy: For larger rigs, campground location within the park matters. At Turning Stone, "you might be looking at a longer walk than others based on where your site is" if bathroom access is important, while railroad noise means "you'll want to stay towards the south / front of the park."

Arrival timing: Mid-week arrivals offer advantages at rv parks in Homer, New York and surrounding areas. At Fillmore Glen, "Prices are lower on weekdays and you get a reduced rate for your second night, too."

Utilities feedback: Consistent reports indicate reliable services at Finger Lakes RV Resort. "The water pressure is great," notes one RVer, while another mentioned the "large sites and spread out" layout that provides "easy maneuverability" for larger vehicles.

Supply availability: On-site conveniences vary widely between campgrounds. Riverside RV Campground offers "fresh vegetables and home baked goods available. There's always snacks," according to a visitor who found it to be a "good enough stop over" while traveling through the area.
