    Letchworth State Park Campground

A little gem with a lot to do

Cabin campers here at letchworth for the past two years. We stumbled on cabin camping at letchworth due to weekends being booked for almost the entire summer for tent spots. the cabins are spacious, with bunk beds, a stove, fridge, and a fire place. i thought they might be close together, yet they were all pretty private, with a fire ring and picnic table. There was a beautiful updated playground, and clean bathrooms. Last summer they had just opened the new nature center with guided hikes, and activities all summer long.

Great for the falls, swimming, hiking, white water rafting, kayaking and so much more!

    Sampson State Park Campground

    Back for a 2nd time

    HIGHLIGHTS :

    Most sites are pretty spacious

    Pets allowed in some loops

Marina convenience store with pontoon boat rentals

    Fishing

    Swimming

    Ice cream and concessions stand

    Arcade room

    Outdoor movie screen

    Nice playgrounds

    Military museum

Paved loops - good for bikes and scooters

    NEAR BY ATTRACTIONS: Wineries

    CONS:

Electric service boxes are shared in-between sites. This could pose an issue if your power cord is not long enough.

There is only source for water fill up. This could end up being a very very long wait if you arrive at the same time as other campers.

    Only 2 dump stations

They don’t allow pull-in camping. Campers MUST be backed in

    Flint Creek Campgrounds

Great activities, friendly hosts, full hook ups!

Close to wine country you will find this gem of a family campground. Dog and kid friendly with activities such as wagon rides, arts and crafts, movie night and various themed weekend events. The hosts were super friendly and welcoming during our entire stay. An easy back in site with full hookups (B10) backed against a row of trees and a field that provided much entertainment of squirrels and birds. There is a camp store with very reasonable prices and accepts credit cards. Wood ($4) and ice ($2) are also for sale. There are two small cabins to rent along with a couple of family tent sites. The bathrooms/showers were clean near the camp store. Amenities include a pool, mini golf ($1/person), two playgrounds, horseshoes, a recreation center with games and movies, basketball and shuffle board. There are many seasonal campers at this campground, but all seemed friendly and welcoming as well. It truly seemed like one big happy family there.

    Letchworth State Park Campground

    Beautiful place

Letchworth is absolutely stunning. The views are beautiful, however the scenic areas are at least a 10 minute drive from the campground. The park is massive.

There is a huge variation in site sizes. We lucked out and got a large site with privacy and an area for the kids to run around, however the site directly across from us was little more than the gravel pad and fire pit. Some of the sites are right on top of each other. Great for group camping, not so much if you want any privacy.

Only two out of the 8 loops (200 and 700 loops) have updated bathrooms (single toilet with handheld showers in half of the bathrooms). The others loops have older facilities with three traditional toilet stalls and two showers.

We loved our site but would’ve preferred to stay in a loop with the updated bath houses as we have younger children and a tent trailer.

All sites have electricity. Some loops are pet friendly, some are pet free. The camp store has a good selection of necessities, albeit expensive for discount brands. The pool is 4-5 miles down the road from the camping area.

    Would absolutely camp here again.

    Letchworth State Park Campground

    Cute cabins and amazing views

We stayed in a cute cabin with running water, a stove, and a heater for cold nights! Outside we had a picnic table and a campfire pit. The park itself has amazing hiking with awesome views. Highly recommend!

Ontario County Park at Gannett Hill

    Wonderful!

Great secluded tent camping (recomend numbers 7 and 8), cabins are new and ample beds and space. Camper camping is close to everything, but less privacy. Numerous pavilions that are wonderful for parties or weddings. Stunning overlook that is breathtaking (also great for weddings). Hiking, bike trails, fishing pond, playground, open fields for sports, much more!!! Great for photo shoots, weekend stress getaways etc. I live close by and visit a few times a month.

    Conesus Lake Campground

Camping with amenities, close to fun

This is your typical Mom and Pop family campground, there are rules to follow but they do not hinder on your experience. They have a well stocked camp store, boat rentals, golf cart rentals, an indoor heated pool, jump pad, playgrounds, a hiking trail and frisbee golf. The bottom portion of the campground has mostly seasonal campers and cabins. You do have to go up a pretty steep hill to get to the 'transient' camping section, but there are many pull through, level, full hook up sites to choose from. ( We had site 250 and really liked it) The bathrooms were toilet/shower combos and were very clean. Attractions close by is a drive-in with 4 different screens, many places to eat, parks ( Vitale Park was really nice), a fun center with mini golf, go carts, batting cages, laser tag and arcade. We also experienced the local flea market in Avon, NY. It's HUGE!

    Darien Lakes State Park Campground

    Clean/Quiet Campground

9/25-9/29/22- The park was nearly empty, perhaps 6 or 8 other campers widely spread out. It was immaculate and the sites well spaced apart. All site have a picnic table and fire pit. Ours had both 30A and 50A power, was pretty level left/right but about 6” high in front before we leveled our 34’ fifth wheel. The park has drinking water faucets at a variety of places throughout, but site#15 has a faucet directly next to it, so we had water available too. Both AT&T 4G and Verizon 5G had 3 bars reception. The dump station was clean and convenient. It looked like a great place for kids that included at least one (probably more) playground.

Guide to Geneseo

Cabin camping near Geneseo, New York provides access to the region's diverse topography where elevation ranges from 500 to 2,000 feet across the nearby Finger Lakes region. Winter temperatures regularly drop below freezing from December through March, while summer highs average in the mid-80s with periodic thunderstorms. Most cabin facilities maintain seasonal operations, typically closing from late October through early May due to harsh winter conditions.

What to do

Hiking through gorges: Stony Brook State Park Campground offers impressive gorge trails with multiple waterfalls accessible directly from the campground. "The gorge trail is very busy but you still can enjoy the beautiful waterfalls along with the gorge formation. We also did the east trail that goes up to the top of the gorge and is also a little further into the woods. It was much quieter up there and the views looking down from there were breathtaking," notes one visitor.

Swimming in natural pools: Stony Brook State Park Campground features a unique swimming area carved from the mountain. "My favorite part about this park has to be their natural pool. It's beautiful and so refreshing," shares a camper. The swimming area typically opens in late June and closes in early September, depending on seasonal staffing and water conditions.

Fishing opportunities: The Ridge Campsite provides multiple stocked fishing ponds with no license required for on-site fishing. "The Ridge campground is a nice place. They have plenty to do with multiple fishing ponds, swimming pool and playgrounds," mentions a recent visitor. Most ponds are stocked with bass and panfish, with fishing permitted from sunrise to sunset.

What campers like

Spacious cabin sites: Ontario County Park at Gannett Hill receives praise for its newer cabins. "Cabins are new and ample beds and space. Camper camping is close to everything, but less privacy," explains a frequent visitor. Each cabin typically accommodates 4-6 people with rates starting at $50-65 per night during peak season.

Clean facilities: Canandaigua-Rochester KOA maintains well-kept restrooms and showers. "The campground is clean and well maintained. The staff are ALL so nice. The amenities are plentiful and well cared for," reports a camper. Bathroom facilities include hot showers available 24 hours with access codes provided at check-in.

Varied terrain options: Conesus Lake Campground offers both lakeside and hillside cabin locations. "The bottom portion of the campground has mostly seasonal campers and cabins. You do have to go up a pretty steep hill to get to the 'transient' camping section," explains a visitor. The steep terrain creates distinct camping environments with different views and proximity to amenities.

What you should know

Seasonal operating schedules: Most cabins near Geneseo operate from May through mid-October. "Stony Brook State Park Campground has a season from April 29 to October 10," states one review. Reservations for summer weekends typically require booking 6-9 months in advance, especially for holiday weekends.

Pet policies vary: Jellystone Park of Western New York welcomes pets but has designated areas. "There is a dog park as well!" notes a visitor. Most campgrounds limit pets to specific cabin loops or units, often with a two-pet maximum and additional cleaning fees ranging from $10-25 per stay.

Terrain considerations: Navigating the landscape at some campgrounds requires planning. "Conesus Lake Campground is on a very steep hill so it is difficult to walk around," cautions a camper. Many visitors recommend renting golf carts at facilities where available, which typically cost $40-60 per day with advance reservation required.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Letchworth State Park Campground provides multiple recreation areas for children. "Quiet relaxing atmosphere, lots of hiking trails and family friendly with parks and a pool for the kids to play," notes a family visitor. The main playground is centrally located near the camp store, with smaller play areas distributed throughout different camping loops.

Kid-friendly activities: Canandaigua-Rochester KOA offers extensive recreation options. "Great place for kids, so many activities! Our kids rented cabins and some used tents and others came for the day. The campground has so much to do between swimming, golf, bike and paddle boat rentals. There's Ziplines with treetop walk and a bounce," shares a family camper. Most scheduled activities run weekends in May-June and daily during July-August.

Educational opportunities: The Ridge Campsite includes nature programs suitable for various ages. "The owner and family were amazing. The kids had so much fun on the playgrounds and with all of the other kids," reports a visitor. Programs typically run on weekend mornings during peak season at no additional cost.

Tips from RVers

Site leveling needs: Ontario County Park at Gannett Hill requires preparation for uneven sites. "Make sure to bring plenty of leveling blocks as some sites are far from level," advises an RVer. The most level sites are typically in the central camping loops, with sites 10-25 noted as requiring less adjustment.

Access considerations: Stay Bristol Woodlands accommodates larger rigs with well-designed sites. "Site was level and well equipped (waste water disposal attached site!)" notes a visitor. The main access road is paved with 14-foot clearance, accommodating rigs up to 40 feet, though advance measurement confirmation is recommended.

Hookup variations: Some campgrounds feature unusual utility placement. "Our water hook up was in the middle of someone's site," reports a camper at Canandaigua-Rochester KOA. Many experienced RVers recommend bringing extension hoses (25-50 feet) and splitters to accommodate these layout challenges.
