Best Campgrounds near Geneseo, NY

Camping near Geneseo, New York centers around several state parks and established campgrounds in the western Finger Lakes region. Letchworth State Park, known as the "Grand Canyon of the East," sits 15 miles southwest of Geneseo and features dramatic gorges carved by the Genesee River. The park spans 18 miles with over 100 miles of hiking trails and accommodates tents, RVs, and cabins. Closer to town, Conesus Lake Campground provides lakeside camping with boat access. Stony Brook State Park in Dansville offers camping near scenic waterfalls and gorge trails. These public lands provide a mix of natural settings from riverside camping to wooded retreats within a 30-minute drive of Geneseo.

Most campgrounds in the region operate seasonally from May through mid-October, closing during the harsh New York winter months. Reservations are strongly recommended, especially for summer weekends and fall foliage season. Letchworth State Park Campground typically opens May 6 and closes October 16, while Stony Brook State Park operates from late April through early October. Cell service varies throughout the area, with limited connectivity in gorge areas and more reliable service near developed campgrounds. Fire restrictions may apply during dry periods, and campers should check with park offices for current conditions before arrival.

The camping experience varies significantly between locations. Letchworth State Park features electrical hookups at most sites with water spigots positioned throughout camping loops. According to visitors, the outer loop sites tend to offer more privacy with tree separation between campsites. Stony Brook State Park provides access to natural swimming areas and gorge trails where hikers can walk alongside waterfalls. Ontario County Park at Gannett Hill offers more secluded tent camping options with stunning overlooks. For RV campers, Genesee Country Campground in Caledonia provides 147 sites with various hookup options. Most state park campgrounds have clean restrooms, hot showers, and picnic facilities, though amenities may be more basic at remote sites.

Ontario County Park at Gannett Hill

    Inexpensive, Peaceful.

I've stayed here on 3 separate occasions, twice in RV 12 and once in RV 6.

I used the 30 AMP hookup and had zero issues.

Beautiful playground for my son to enjoy and meet other kiddos. Deer, chipmunks and rabbits will say hi in the early and late hours.

    Large dumpsters near entrance.

Dump stations are present, but I haven't used them yet.

Potable water is present at a small spigot.

The washrooms facility is very close and speaking for the men's side, it had 2 stalls, 2 urinals, 2 showers, multiple sinks, and a sturdy baby changing station.

Hiking trails with gorgeous views of the valley within a 5 min walk of my campsite.

    Sleepy Hollow Lake Campground

    Kid friendly but Bee Problem

We had a lot of fun here and there’s a lot of activities for kids I would typically give this campsite 5 stars but our only problem was there were bees everywhere. I get some bees are apart of the camping experience and nature but we’ve never ran into this problem elsewhere. They were all over the campground it was very unpleasant and there was a nest under the playground we did advise management of.

    Hamlin Beach State Park Campground

    Relaxing 2 weeks

The camp store is closed along with no firewood and no laundry.

We stayed for 2 weeks and it was so relaxing. We loved biking through the loops and by the beach at the park. There was live music at the park during the week. The campground has an activity room full of things to do. As a state park, there are a lot of different people with different values, so be ready for the occasional obnoxious family. Our site was secluded and in the pines. We love it here and will definitely do this again!

    Stay Bristol Woodlands

    Well maintained and friendly Staff!

Campground is adorable, you can see a lot of other campers, but the spots are spaced out. Showers were nice, didn’t get to try the pool out as it was a quick stopover, but this seems like a fun place to spend some time

    Beaver Meadow Family Campground

    Ridiculous pool rule

The campgrounds are nice. The staff, friendly. Brought our RV so I didn’t see the bathrooms. We had a site that was “lake view” which was funny because it’s a pond. It was stocked so fishing was fun. They have a nice heated pool. My only real issue is the ridiculous two adult pool rule if you are with kids. We spent all day at the rodeo. We came back ready to swim after being in the sun all day. Of course my toddler fell asleep so I stayed with him at the campsite and my husband took our other two kids to the pool. They were able to swim for 15 mins before the other people who were at the pool took off. So it was just my husband and kids left. The lady working in the office came out and told them they had to get out because“there has to be two adults and one has to stay on deck”. Like, what?!? Seriously? That’s the stupidest rule I’ve ever heard. So he gets my very disappointed kids out of the pool and they are just hanging out pool side hoping for basically a stranger to come swim so they can swim. They waited nearly an hour before they got defeated and came back to the camper. Stupid rule. I’ve never seen any campground ever have that rule. If you are that worried about a solo parent taking care of their kids, hire a life guard. Or make that pool rule known prior to booking. My kids had life jackets on and my husband is CPR certified. Literally will never come here again because of this rule. Lame lame LAME.

    Six Flags Darien Lake Campground

    Great family recreation spot

Obviously being connected to Six flags is a fun family stop, but every part of the camping experience is treated with attention to detail and great services. We needed help with our water heater in our own RV and the camp team sent over a mechanic to sort it out within minutes. Free of charge. Good people nice natural and spacious sites and fun for the family
