Four Mile Creek State Park Campground

    lakeside camping

We our family of 5 tent camped on site 155 & 157. The sites were right next to the bathrooms/showers/laundry. The bathrooms were very clean. The showers had 2 separate privacy shower curtains and a bench to put your things in the shower stall. It was 2.25 to wash clothes. There were 2 water fountains outside the bath house. The sites were very quiet and shaded. It was short driving distance to Niagara Falls and our NY state park pass got us free parking at Niagara Falls State Park during our stay. We watched the sun set on Lake Ontario. It was a beautiful place to stay!

    Horrible Customer Service

I would like to start off by saying this was our first time visiting the Medina Wildwood Koa and unfortunately it will have to be our last. Our camp ground it’s self was great. Lots of space, a picnic bench, a fire pit, a grill and even a lake you can fish/rent boats to go on right behind us!

There were many different ways to keep busy and have fun. We were able to float in tubes at the creek, go swimming, rent a peddle boat, play at the playground, rent a golf cart, and jump on a big jumping pillow. And I must say the bathrooms were pristine and air conditioned! Loved that!!

The major problem with this campground is the very rude people. Not only was the customer service absolutely horrible and spoke to not only adults but also children in a very rude harsh way making us ALL feel incompetent/uneducated but the regulars at this campground are just as rude and disrespectful. How can you ever feel welcome or want to come back to a campground with staff saying things like: “You must not know how to read” and clearing there throats very loudly with their arms crossed before telling us other things we may have been doing wrong very sarcastically.

I do admit that we did do some things the wrong way and as soon as we found out or saw on our own we corrected them. It’s just not something I would ever want to endure again especially since my kids feelings were hurt the most and this was ment for them to have fun.

Four Mile Creek State Park Campground

    Field Camping

It's not all bad! It took a while to find our site in the dark as site markers are small. The sites are decent size, the bathrooms are clean but spiders will hang out. Showers are hot. Sites are available with electric and there is an RV dump station if you have one. There are a lot of RVs at this campground, a large playground, and a field with soccer goals (no net). Niagara Falls is 15 or so miles away, and Buffalo NY is a short drive. The bathroom building has an outdoor sink with heated water, and this is also where the trash bins are.  Firewood is available in front of many nearby homes (a couple of miles, max,and $4-5 a bundle). The fire pits are either low or leaning, so we found a camp stove to be essential. It can get quite windy, we saw a tent buckle and our stakes were pulled up from the wind. It can get loud at night and it doesn't seem as if quiet hours are enforced. I'd stay again but only if a more private campground was unavailable.

    Niagaras Lazy Lakes Camping Resort

    Clean & Friendly

We have camped here several times. Bathrooms are very clean along with the showers. They are cleaned on a daily basis. Store on site has just the bare amenities. Big clubhouse, 2 heated pools and a pond to fish (catch & release). Sites are big. Pet friendly. Staff are very friendly. 10-15 minutes from Niagara Falls and close to stores. It does have 2 on site laundry facilities but the dryers take a while. Enjoy going there.

    Evangola State Park Campground

    Nice but not great

The facilities in the campground are very good (relatively new bath house with nice clean showers). The campsites are a good size although most have no natural shade or privacy. My only real complaint is that this seemed like a "party park" with music playing and people being loud after quiet hours. In addition, the beach area had a lot of trash laying around.

    Letchworth State Park Campground

    Unexpected Surroundings

In most states, those without falls like Niagara, this state park would be the pride of the land. With three serious drops in as many miles, the Genesse River winds it’s way through what locals call the “Grand Canyon of the East.” Many states try to make such claims, but this might be the closest any come to actually living up to such. It is stunning!

Along the river this park gives the motorist the distinct feel that she is on a parkway, not unlike Shenendoah, or Blue Ridge. Every few miles the winding pavement breaks out onto a few of the ridges and valley below, before ducking back into the forest of Western New York.

The campground, which is about 15 miles from the major falls area, offers what many come to expect from state parks. There are a wide variety of campsites, all reservable online, which can accommodate lots of different types of camping, large RV’s, small tents, and everything in between. Most, if not all, campsites offer electrical and water is available close by.

The bathrooms are practically luxurious by most camping standards, with single-use restroom/ showers available at all hours. The camp store offered a few grocery items, along with cold drinks, firewood and ice in addition to laundry facilities. Within a short walk were many hiking trails, an old-school fitness path, and a stellar playground where anyone under 9 years of age should get a great workout.

But let’s be honest, we’re not coming here for the campground, it’s the rest of the park that makes the drive worth it. So, check it out and get to know this stunning place first hand and be sure to bring a picnic basket.

    Letchworth State Park Campground

    Amazing state park, crappy campground

The state park is breathtaking. The campground is horrendous. The restrooms were disgusting. The site barely fit our one tent (8man Coleman) even though it was advertised as a two tent site. The camp fire ring had no solid base- it just sat on the grass and fires would not stay lit. The quiet hours were not enforced. Yelling and loud music kept us up until ridiculous hours. I would not rate this as family friendly.

    Letchworth State Park Campground

    Beautiful place

Letchworth is absolutely stunning. The views are beautiful, however the scenic areas are at least a 10 minute drive from the campground. The park is massive.

There is a huge variation in site sizes. We lucked out and got a large site with privacy and an area for the kids to run around, however the site directly across from us was little more than the gravel pad and fire pit. Some of the sites are right on top of each other. Great for group camping, not so much if you want any privacy.

Only two out of the 8 loops (200 and 700 loops) have updated bathrooms (single toilet with handheld showers in half of the bathrooms). The others loops have older facilities with three traditional toilet stalls and two showers.

We loved our site but would’ve preferred to stay in a loop with the updated bath houses as we have younger children and a tent trailer.

All sites have electricity. Some loops are pet friendly, some are pet free. The camp store has a good selection of necessities, albeit expensive for discount brands. The pool is 4-5 miles down the road from the camping area.

    Would absolutely camp here again.

What to do

Visit Niagara Falls State Park: Only 25 minutes from Bowmansville, this world-famous destination provides an unforgettable experience. One visitor at HTR Niagara Campground shared, "Located a short drive to the Falls, on the 'less busy side', to boot! Sites for all types of camping available as well as nice new cabins and yurts for rent!"

Explore Four Mile Creek: The shoreline of Lake Ontario offers spectacular sunset views and photography opportunities. A camper noted, "We camped at site 161 which was fairly shaded and had a large open field with a view of Lake Ontario. Sunsets were beautiful and a lot of campers come to the lake in the evening to watch it."

Hike the Conservation Trail: Winter glampers can access scenic trails even in snowy conditions. A visitor at Darien Lakes State Park Campground reported, "We did some winter camping here. We backpacked into the lean to along the Conservation Trail. It was in good condition and we had a large clearing for activities."

Try disc golf: Some parks offer free courses for all skill levels. "There is a fairly new Frisbee golf course as well. This campground would be a good alternative to paying the high prices to stay at the theme park down the road," mentioned one visitor.

What campers like

Premium pools and water features: Beyond standard swimming areas, some luxury glamping sites feature advanced water facilities. A camper at Jellystone Park of Western New York wrote, "They added a beach to their pond and allow swimming. They have the best fireworks for July 4 and their Halloween weekends are full of fun and fright!"

Family bathrooms: Several parks offer family-friendly bathroom facilities that make glamping with children easier. A reviewer noted, "The bathrooms were seriously nicer than most home bathrooms. Beautiful! Grounds were very well kept & staff friendly. There is also a unique salt water pool and activity hut."

Themed seasonal events: Halloween weekends are particularly popular at glamping sites near Bowmansville. "Our favorite time of year to visit is around Halloween. They always have great activities and trick or treating with the kids," shared a family that visited regularly.

Transportation services: Some campgrounds provide shuttle services to major attractions. A guest at Niagara Falls/Grand Island KOA Holiday mentioned, "You can schedule tours of the falls in the office. Tour bus stops at office. Restaurants nearby."

What you should know

Reservation timing: The most popular glamping units book 4-6 months in advance, especially for premium locations. "This is a JEWEL. Book early. Bring your hiking shoes & camera. The gorge is spectacular. Try to get to the balloon fest on Memorial Day - and book a flight if you can," advised a visitor to Letchworth State Park Campground.

Insect considerations: Some glamping locations experience seasonal insect activity. A camper at Sleepy Hollow Lake Campground observed, "We had a lot of fun here and there's a lot of activities for kids. I would typically give this campsite 5 stars but our only problem was there were bees everywhere."

Noise levels vary: Some glamping sites are quieter than others. A visitor noted, "This park is a nicely kept, clean and quiet gem. I live local to the area and still find a time to setup the tent and enjoy some peace and quiet away from the noise of daily life."

Electricity reliability: Some parks may experience voltage fluctuations. "Our problem was that the low voltage power would trip our EMS. Power went to as low as 109 volts that I saw. We really wanted to love it there but with no sewer and bad power we had to leave early."

Tips for camping with families

Free activities for kids: Look for glamping sites that include complimentary recreation options. "Put put was free. So many things to do with the kids. Heated pools. Beach was clean," reported a parent who visited Jellystone Park of Western New York.

Kid-friendly glamping accommodations: Some locations offer specialized family units. A visitor at Sleepy Hollow Lake Campground described their experience: "Short term site right across from the pond, with a patio and gazebo. Roads paved throughout, great laundry facilities, lots for kids, cabins available."

Swimming options: When choosing glamping near Bowmansville with children, consider locations with multiple water features. "My child had a blast. the tent site wasn't private or fancy but the rest of the facility was great. Staff super nice. The pool is awesome," shared a parent.

Check bathroom facilities: Family-friendly bathrooms can make glamping with children easier. "All the bathhouses with bathrooms and showers are up-to-date and SUPER CLEAN. (Note: No dishwashing station in this loop, so bring your own system)."

Tips from RVers

Electrical considerations: Premium glamping sites typically offer 30-50 amp service, but quality varies. "Internet is really good and has been upgraded recently with 2G and 5G access. Bathrooms are clean and functional. Staff is very polite."

Site types and access: Different sites offer varying levels of privacy and access. "Sites are easy access, rock bed for the sites, you are escorted to site. Easy access to local attractions, including Niagara Falls."

Off-season considerations: Many glamping facilities operate with reduced services during shoulder seasons. "We arrived late and our site info was in the night drop so all good. It is right off the roadway so there is some road noise. We timed our visit well - the park was pretty empty in mid-October but the weather was still nice."
