Best RV Parks & Resorts near Woodbridge, NJ

CAMPER SUMMARY PRESENTED BYFord

Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City provides 90 RV sites with water and electric hookups, located within view of the Statue of Liberty and Manhattan skyline. The park operates as a paved parking lot with sites placed closely together, offering 30 and 50-amp service but minimal space between neighbors. "This is a great spot with views of Manhattan, Statue of Liberty, etc. Expect to pay pretty good to be here, but from here you can pretty much easily get anywhere in NYC," noted one camper about the strategic location. Nearby, Turkey Swamp Park in Freehold Township offers more spacious sites set in wooded areas with 30-amp electric service, operating from April through mid-November. Indian Rock RV Resort in Jackson accommodates big rigs with full hookups including 30 and 50-amp electric service across its 99 sites, available May through September.

Transit access varies significantly between parks, with Liberty Harbor positioned just blocks from ferries to Manhattan and the PATH train system. Most parks maintain dump stations for self-contained units, though reviews indicate Liberty Harbor's can become congested during busy checkout periods. Seasonal availability restricts options during winter months, with Turkey Swamp and Indian Rock closing from late fall through early spring. According to one visitor, "The bathhouse was above average and heated. The laundry was helpful and was acceptable," though amenities generally remain basic at most locations. Sites with concrete pads and pull-through configurations are limited in the region, with many requiring careful maneuvering into back-in spaces. Larger motorhomes should call ahead to verify clearance for low bridges and tight turns on approach roads, particularly when navigating into Jersey City.

    Adventure Bound Camping (Tall Pines)

    Deceiving Website

We stayed at Adventure Bound Tall Pines in Elmer, New Jersey, for Memorial Day weekend for a quick getaway. Despite reserving and paying for a“Premium” site, it fell far short. But there were still a few things we liked…

    THINGS I LIKED:

    1. Super-friendly staff, especially Allie, who was courteous and seemed to try to make things right

    2. Lots of mature shade trees

    3. DJ at the pool Saturday and Sunday and live band Saturday evening

    4. Close proximity to Delsea Drive-in Theatre and Cohenzick Zoo

THINGS I DIDN’T LIKE SO MUCH:

    1. I reserved and paid-in-full for a premium site which listed 50-amp service and a concrete pad. Nope. Only 30-amp service and no concrete pad. When I called the office, assuming there must’ve been a mistake, I was told by two different staff members that their website is“wonky.” I wouldn’t mind as much, but this weekend was 90-degrees each day and humid, so it would’ve been good to have air conditioning.

    2. The entire park was dirty sand with weeds growing everywhere

    3. This place is not big-rig friendly, difficult to navigate some of the turns in our 45’ motorhome and taking scratches from tree branches that should be trimmed

    4. I paid$432 for 3-nights and feel like I was taken

    WOULD WE COME BACK?

Nope. I’m sticking with campgrounds that give you what you paid for.

    Kymers Camping Resort

Fun, friendly & nestled in the woods

We stayed at Kymer's on a whim for a weekend, so we could be close to Mountain Creek for a Spartan Race. It truly exceeded our expectations in all aspects. This is a family friendly, camper-friendly place. Lots of seasonals- everyone waves, everyone stops to chat. This is what a campground should feel like. The sound of laughter and play sitting around the huge, clean pool was refreshing. Our site was Oak 10. It was level, good placement of electric water & sewer connects. Camp store has all the basics you might need. There is a brook that flows adjacent to the property. It's peaceful & magical. Pet friendly, although we didn't have our pup with us. We will be back again. I almost feel like I'm revealing a hidden gem with this post. 💎

    Colonial Woods Family Resort

    Not big rig friendly.

Ok so let me start off by saying. If we still had our smaller travel trailer this review would’ve been at least 4 stars. However this place is not the place for you if you have a fifth wheel. The roads are very narrow, pretty sizable boulders on both sides, trees are very low and need to be trimmed (almost took my ac out with a huge limb). Now if you’re not big rig camping like we do, this place is great for you. Close to the ringing rocks and three other towns. We were able to do so much even though it rained the entire weekend we were there.

    Mahlon Dickerson Reservation

    Nice, small, spacious campground

We stayed at site 15 for 5 days. The sites are nicely wooded, very well spaced, fairly level with 50A service and water hookup. Although the water spigots were shared between sites, they provide hose caddies that should reach most RV hookups. No sewer hookup, but there is a convenient dump station. There are no fire rings in the RV section, only raised grills. We had the place pretty much to ourselves during the week, but the weekend did get busy. AT&T had ok data connection with 1-2 bars most of the time. There is no satellite coverage due to the heavy tree canopy. OTA TV was very inconsistent using an external omni antenna. There is no WiFi. There is a very nice network of trails in the reservation, most if not all were leashed dog friendly. There is a very nice restaurant, Stone Water, less than 10 miles away and is right on lake Hopatcong.

    Panther Lake Camping Resort

    Stayed all summer

We stayed at Panther Lake as full timers all season. Great during the week but very busy on weekends. Could be noisy with children not very well supervised.
Friendly, helpful staff. Cable TV poor when it rains. Cell service spotty all carriers. No internet at sites. Lake beautiful and pool nice.

    Turkey Swamp Park

    Quiet Woodland Campground

Turkey Swamp Park is a great find! Heavily wooded and supremely quiet, it’s located not far from anywhere you’d want to be. 30 minutes to the shore. Every site is a pull-through, large and spacious with great woodland views. 30amp and water. Dump station.

The park has miles of shady forested trails for hiking and dog walking. there’s a large lake here too, for water based recreational activities.

The bathrooms, showers, and laundry are co-located in a centrally situated structure. Everything inside is clean and well-maintained.

We’ve got good cell signal with Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint. (We use all three.) Good OTA television signal also.

We spent three days here in July 2021.

Military Park NJ National Guard Training Center RV Sites

    Quiet, spacious, no frills

We stayed in site #1 with our 21' travel trailer. In our opinion this is the best site because you have an unobstructed view of Stockton Lake & the horizon over the ocean. Big rig spots are further back (around site 6-9 or so). 9 sites total & they are often booked, so need to do so in advance. Free beach just a few moments' walk down the road. Close to shore towns & many restaurants. Plenty of space for kids to play in the field/grass area. TONS of geese everywhere though. Pets are NOT allowed (but they'd probably help w the geese problem). You get access to the showers with a key card and when you check in, but I don't have anything to report as I used the bathroom/shower in our trailer. Price is great at $45/night. FULL hookups as well. Only annoying thing was the sewer hookup is about 18 inches off the ground so you need to lift the hose when emptying the tanks to ensure it actually fully drains.

    Butterfly Camping Resort

    Nice & quiet getaway

    4½ Stars Quick Weekend Getaway

We stayed at Butterfly Camping Resort in Jackson, New Jersey, for a 2-night weekend in late-August. We’re so glad we did!

Our site(#90) was a level pull-thru with 50-amp electric, water, sewer, and cable. It was roomy, shady, and easy to pull in and out. The hook-ups were all well-maintained and worked fine. We had plenty of room to fit our car too. The site included a picnic table, charcoal grill, and fire ring.

The gated campground was clean and well-maintained. The swimming pool was large and the water crystal clear. The store was stocked with typical essentials like supplies, fire wood, and snacks. Most of the neighboring RVs were nice and in good shape. The park has bath facilities, a dump station on the way out, and lots of play areas.

The front office staff were all friendly and we love that, especially when checking in at a new campground. When I called for a last-minute reservation, they seemed glad to have us.

This park is close to Great Adventure and not far from the Jersey shore if that’s in your plans.

There were two observations I’d categorize as ‘no park is perfect.’ The site was sandy. The whole place is sandy. This is messy, especially after a bit of rain(which we had), and makes it a constant challenge to keep the sand out of the RV. If the site had gravel, grass, or some other surface, this would be a 5-star review. They offer wifi which is nice to have, but it didn’t work very well. I realize this is a common complaint at many campgrounds, but we’ve come to want to stay connected(at least, a little).

This is a really nice campground with inviting pool and facilities. We can’t wait to go back!

Guide to Woodbridge

RV parks near Woodbridge, New Jersey offer strategic positioning between urban attractions and natural areas. Most campgrounds in this region operate seasonally, with many closing during winter months when temperatures regularly drop below freezing. The area features primarily flat terrain with elevations under 100 feet, making most camping areas accessible without challenging approach roads.

What to do

Boating access: 100 yards from Manhattan ferry: At Liberty Harbor RV Park, campers can easily reach water transit options. "The ferry 100-yards away takes you to Wall Street M-F. There is a great market about 1/4 of a mile away, and the path that can take you to WTC or 33rd Street area is only a mile away," notes one visitor.

Outdoor activities at Turkey Swamp: Visitors to Turkey Swamp Park find multiple recreation options. "Plenty to do over a 2 night stay. Archery, boating, fishing, and hiking. Boat rental rates are acceptable and there are four different styles to choose from," reports Dan W., while another camper notes, "There are several short hiking trails that are fairly well-marked but can be a bit confusing at times."

Walking routes from urban campgrounds: When staying at urban RV parks Woodbridge, New Jersey visitors can explore local neighborhoods. "The area feels safe and is pedestrian friendly, even at night. During the day, I saw another RV patron walking to do their laundry just outside the complex on the next street over," mentions a guest at Skyline RV Camp.

What campers like

Spacious wooded sites: Turkey Swamp Park offers larger campsites than many Woodbridge area campgrounds. A visitor observed, "Sites are in the woods and widely spaced apart to give you privacy and the feeling of being out in the Forrest. Sites are all level, very generous in size, and reasonably spaced apart for privacy."

Strategic location for area attractions: Camping locations near Woodbridge provide access to multiple destinations. At Indian Rock RV Resort, a camper noted, "We stayed two nights at this park because we wanted to spend a day at Six flags. We would camp here again to go to six flags because it was easy to drive back a few minutes after a long day at the park."

Waterfront views: Several RV parks feature water views, which campers consistently highlight. "We stayed in site #1 with our 21' travel trailer. In our opinion this is the best site because you have an unobstructed view of Stockton Lake & the horizon over the ocean," commented a visitor at Military Park NJ National Guard Training Center.

What you should know

Reservation timing requirements: Many campgrounds near Woodbridge fill quickly. At NWS Earle RV Park, a military campground, one camper observed, "Even though the published rules state no long term leases there are a couple of trailers that haven't seen the road in some time."

Bathhouse facilities vary significantly: Bathroom amenities differ across locations. One camper at Skyline RV Camp noted, "There was only 1 bathroom with small shower for all guests, however they are in the process of adding 5 more. No paper towels to dry your hands and no shelves, hooks, or benches to put your things while you shower."

Seasonal campground closures: Most RV parks near Woodbridge operate seasonally. Turkey Swamp Park operates April 1 to November 15, while Indian Rock RV Resort runs May 1 to September 30, limiting winter camping options for visitors needing year-round access.

Bug concerns in wooded areas: Ticks and insects affect some camping experiences. "By the 2nd day I had 3 ticks on me. My dog had one and by the end my husband had 2. That was so crazy because we were just sitting by our camper," reported a camper at Turkey Swamp Park.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Allaire State Park offers recreational facilities for children. "There are age-appropriate playgrounds both in the campground and by the office," according to one visitor, with another noting, "There is a centralized playground for the kids with bathrooms and showers next door."

Transportation considerations: When staying at urban RV parks with families, transit options matter. At Skyline RV Camp, one family reported, "There's a metro station within a 10-minute walk. The area feels safe and is pedestrian friendly, even at night. We were there Halloween night and we took our kids out trick-or-treating just outside the gate."

Tent options with RV sites: Some campgrounds allow mixed camping setups. At Turkey Swamp, "Sites are tent and RV sites and you are allowed to have a tent on the site with an RV at no extra charge," which benefits families needing multiple sleeping arrangements.

Tips from RVers

Approach route planning: When navigating to Liberty Harbor RV Park, tolls and traffic require consideration. One RVer advised, "Getting in and out of the city is an adventure. Stay right off the highway to avoid the $30 tunnel toll. Follow RV life pro and not Waze."

Site selection strategy: At crowded urban RV parks, position matters. "Pick one of the larger end row sites to get a little extra elbow room. If it's packed, your neighbor with be within inches of your rig," recommends an experienced camper.

Hookup placement challenges: Several RV parks have awkward utility configurations. At NWS Earle, a visitor observed, "Power is at the far back & sewage is in the middle (left to right). A longer camper will be parked over the sewage connection," requiring extended hoses or careful positioning.
