Best RV Parks & Resorts near Westfield, NJ

Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City provides water and electric hookups across 90 sites for motorhomes and travel trailers. The park functions essentially as a gravel parking lot with tight spacing between RVs, though its proximity to Manhattan makes it a strategic base for city exploration. "Basicly a parking lot, but the location can't be beat. 2 ferries that run to Manhattan. Path train is a 12 minute walk away that will take you to manhatten," notes one visitor. Mahlon Dickerson Reservation in Jefferson offers more spacious accommodations with full hookup sites including electric, water, and sewer connections. The paved sites are level and suitable for larger motorhomes. Crystal Springs Lodges & RV Resort in Cream Ridge includes 50-amp service and can accommodate big rigs with its pull-through sites.

Navigating to these parks requires careful planning, especially for larger motorhomes approaching Jersey City where urban streets can present challenges. According to reviews, Liberty Harbor costs approximately $120 per night, significantly higher than rural alternatives but competitive with hotel rates in the area. Most RV parks near Westfield maintain seasonal operations, with several closing between November and April. Dump stations are available at Liberty Harbor and Mahlon Dickerson, though Liberty Harbor's facility may have waiting periods during busy checkout times. For military personnel, additional options exist at NWS Earle RV Park in Colts Neck and Military Park NJ National Guard Training Center in Sea Girt, both offering full hookup sites at more affordable rates with varying seasonal availability.

    Adventure Bound Camping (Tall Pines)

    Deceiving Website

We stayed at Adventure Bound Tall Pines in Elmer, New Jersey, for Memorial Day weekend for a quick getaway. Despite reserving and paying for a“Premium” site, it fell far short. But there were still a few things we liked…

    THINGS I LIKED:

    1. Super-friendly staff, especially Allie, who was courteous and seemed to try to make things right

    2. Lots of mature shade trees

    3. DJ at the pool Saturday and Sunday and live band Saturday evening

    4. Close proximity to Delsea Drive-in Theatre and Cohenzick Zoo

THINGS I DIDN’T LIKE SO MUCH:

    1. I reserved and paid-in-full for a premium site which listed 50-amp service and a concrete pad. Nope. Only 30-amp service and no concrete pad. When I called the office, assuming there must’ve been a mistake, I was told by two different staff members that their website is“wonky.” I wouldn’t mind as much, but this weekend was 90-degrees each day and humid, so it would’ve been good to have air conditioning.

    2. The entire park was dirty sand with weeds growing everywhere

    3. This place is not big-rig friendly, difficult to navigate some of the turns in our 45’ motorhome and taking scratches from tree branches that should be trimmed

    4. I paid$432 for 3-nights and feel like I was taken

    WOULD WE COME BACK?

Nope. I’m sticking with campgrounds that give you what you paid for.

    Kymers Camping Resort

Fun, friendly & nestled in the woods

We stayed at Kymer's on a whim for a weekend, so we could be close to Mountain Creek for a Spartan Race. It truly exceeded our expectations in all aspects. This is a family friendly, camper-friendly place. Lots of seasonals- everyone waves, everyone stops to chat. This is what a campground should feel like. The sound of laughter and play sitting around the huge, clean pool was refreshing. Our site was Oak 10. It was level, good placement of electric water & sewer connects. Camp store has all the basics you might need. There is a brook that flows adjacent to the property. It's peaceful & magical. Pet friendly, although we didn't have our pup with us. We will be back again. I almost feel like I'm revealing a hidden gem with this post. 💎

    Colonial Woods Family Resort

    Not big rig friendly.

Ok so let me start off by saying. If we still had our smaller travel trailer this review would’ve been at least 4 stars. However this place is not the place for you if you have a fifth wheel. The roads are very narrow, pretty sizable boulders on both sides, trees are very low and need to be trimmed (almost took my ac out with a huge limb). Now if you’re not big rig camping like we do, this place is great for you. Close to the ringing rocks and three other towns. We were able to do so much even though it rained the entire weekend we were there.

    Mahlon Dickerson Reservation

    Nice, small, spacious campground

We stayed at site 15 for 5 days. The sites are nicely wooded, very well spaced, fairly level with 50A service and water hookup. Although the water spigots were shared between sites, they provide hose caddies that should reach most RV hookups. No sewer hookup, but there is a convenient dump station. There are no fire rings in the RV section, only raised grills. We had the place pretty much to ourselves during the week, but the weekend did get busy. AT&T had ok data connection with 1-2 bars most of the time. There is no satellite coverage due to the heavy tree canopy. OTA TV was very inconsistent using an external omni antenna. There is no WiFi. There is a very nice network of trails in the reservation, most if not all were leashed dog friendly. There is a very nice restaurant, Stone Water, less than 10 miles away and is right on lake Hopatcong.

    Panther Lake Camping Resort

    Stayed all summer

We stayed at Panther Lake as full timers all season. Great during the week but very busy on weekends. Could be noisy with children not very well supervised.
Friendly, helpful staff. Cable TV poor when it rains. Cell service spotty all carriers. No internet at sites. Lake beautiful and pool nice.

    Turkey Swamp Park

    Quiet Woodland Campground

Turkey Swamp Park is a great find! Heavily wooded and supremely quiet, it’s located not far from anywhere you’d want to be. 30 minutes to the shore. Every site is a pull-through, large and spacious with great woodland views. 30amp and water. Dump station.

The park has miles of shady forested trails for hiking and dog walking. there’s a large lake here too, for water based recreational activities.

The bathrooms, showers, and laundry are co-located in a centrally situated structure. Everything inside is clean and well-maintained.

We’ve got good cell signal with Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint. (We use all three.) Good OTA television signal also.

We spent three days here in July 2021.

Military Park NJ National Guard Training Center RV Sites

    Quiet, spacious, no frills

We stayed in site #1 with our 21' travel trailer. In our opinion this is the best site because you have an unobstructed view of Stockton Lake & the horizon over the ocean. Big rig spots are further back (around site 6-9 or so). 9 sites total & they are often booked, so need to do so in advance. Free beach just a few moments' walk down the road. Close to shore towns & many restaurants. Plenty of space for kids to play in the field/grass area. TONS of geese everywhere though. Pets are NOT allowed (but they'd probably help w the geese problem). You get access to the showers with a key card and when you check in, but I don't have anything to report as I used the bathroom/shower in our trailer. Price is great at $45/night. FULL hookups as well. Only annoying thing was the sewer hookup is about 18 inches off the ground so you need to lift the hose when emptying the tanks to ensure it actually fully drains.

Delaware Water Gap / Pocono Mountain KOA

    Family friendly, super kind staff

We have stayed at a few KOAs and we really liked this one. The staff were kind and so helpful. This is right by Shawnee, several water sports places and near some great hikes. Campground has some nice shaded 30amp back in spots with full hookups. We stayed in 47 which backs up to a wooded area & had good cover. Although the map shows site 47 as electric & water only it's actually full hookups (they just haven't updated the map yet). Some of the pull through sites in the center are not shaded at all, as a heads up. Friends stayed in a deluxe cabin, which was beautiful & looked brand new inside. The camp store has everything you might need. Wi-Fi is free and signal OK. The pool is well maintained and there's a ton of space for outdoor activities like volleyball, mini golf & more. We did a buddy site and stayed next to friends as well for a small extra fee per site. We would stay here again!

Guide to Westfield

RV parks near Westfield, New Jersey sit within the state's eastern corridor, approximately 16 miles southwest of Manhattan. The region features rolling hills with elevations ranging from 70 to 120 feet above sea level. Most campgrounds remain operational from April through October with limited winter availability, requiring advance reservations during summer weekends when occupancy often reaches 100%.

What to do

Visit New York City attractions: 12-minute walk to PATH train from Liberty Harbor RV Park. The Manhattan skyline is visible from the campground, and quick transit options make city exploration convenient. "My wife visited Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. The sites had electric and water and were in a fenced off section of tue marina parking area," notes Kevin A. Another visitor adds, "We spent 3 nights here last week. I was in NYC for business and we took our RV. Very convenient location."

Explore shoreline towns: 15-minute drive from Military Park NJ National Guard Training Center RV Sites. Access to beaches and coastal communities provides day-trip opportunities. "Free beach just a few moments' walk down the road. Close to shore towns & many restaurants. Plenty of space for kids to play in the field/grass area," writes Jessica D.

Hike woodland trails: On-site at Mahlon Dickerson Reservation. The reservation offers interconnected trails suitable for all skill levels. "We always hike to the lake here, it's a very easy hike and also very peaceful," says Paulene-Amanda M. Another camper notes, "Make sure to visit Headley overlook and hike the awesome trials that surround the campsites!"

What campers like

Spacious, private sites: Mahlon Dickerson Reservation offers large, wooded campsites. The sites include platforms for tent camping and paved, mostly level areas for RVs. "Very clean and quiet. Website lists water hook ups at long distances but they have hose reels to help with that," explains one camper. Another adds, "The sites are spaced well and have a nice bonus of large fire rings set back in the woods a bit from the pad that you park on."

Military facilities for qualified users: NWS Earle RV Park provides well-maintained sites for service members. The campground features quality amenities at lower rates than commercial options. "Small campground W/ 8 spaces in the main area and 7 in an adjacent area. All spaces are level concrete With fill hookups and attached concrete patio," shares Jeffrey. He adds, "Laundry facilities are free for use and in like new condition."

Farm setting with animals: Pleasant Acres Farm RV Resort offers a rural experience. Children particularly enjoy the farm animals and outdoor activities. "The farm has goats, a donkey, and a pony within the campground. Very cool," reports Faith D. Another camper mentions, "Plenty to occupy the kids. Playground, hayride, animals to feed (goats, chickens, donkey and pony)."

What you should know

Urban campground challenges: Street navigation requires planning. Liberty Harbor RV Park provides city access but comes with urban complications. "Getting in and out of the city is an adventure. Stay right off the highway to avoid the $30 tunnel toll. Follow RV life pro and not Waze," advises Joe R. The urban location also means noise levels are higher than traditional campgrounds.

Seasonal operation patterns: Most rv parks near Westfield, New Jersey operate from spring to fall. Thousand Trails Timothy Lake South runs from May 1 to October 31, while Military Park NJ National Guard operates Memorial Day to Labor Day. Pleasant Acres Farm RV Resort maintains an April 1 to October 31 season.

Limited tent camping options: Majority of facilities cater to RVs. Mahlon Dickerson Reservation offers platforms for tent camping, while most other locations primarily serve RVs. When tent camping is available, reserved spots fill quickly during summer weekends. "I chose Mahlon Dickerson for my first solo trip. Super easy to book. They have these 12x12 platforms to put your tent on," notes Christina L.

Tips for camping with families

Book early for summer weekends: Reservations fill 2-3 months ahead. Family-friendly sites at Pleasant Acres Farm RV Resort are particularly in demand. "Lots of seasonals and lots of cabins, many RV sites I think all with full hookups. A bit pricey," shares Janelle G. The campground offers organized activities for children throughout summer weekends.

Consider wildlife precautions: Bear activity requires proper food storage. Mahlon Dickerson Reservation posts bear warnings for campers with children. One family notes, "There are a lot of bear warnings here so that gave us a bit of pause with our three little boys." Safety measures include storing food in vehicles or bear-proof containers at night.

Pool availability varies by location: Call ahead to verify operational status. Several campgrounds offer swimming facilities with seasonal hours. At Pleasant Acres, a visitor appreciated "a great swimming pool" among the facility amenities. Another camper mentioned their children enjoyed the swimming options during summer months.

Tips from RVers

Connectivity challenges: Cell service varies drastically by provider. Timothy Lake South experiences inconsistent coverage. "Cell service is awful for AT&T and our T-Mobile gateway. Had to move to a new site to get away from the trees to get starlink connectivity," reports Nick E. Liberty Harbor offers better connectivity but experiences congestion during busy periods.

Dump station logistics: Plan for potential wait times. Many rv parks Westfield, New Jersey have limited dump facilities. At Timothy Lake South, a reviewer noted, "There is a dump station, but not the easiest to use." Mahlon Dickerson features a more accessible option with a camper commenting, "The dump station has a flush hose point. Nice and easy little campground."

Site selection strategy: End rows provide more space at urban locations. At Liberty Harbor, space constraints make site selection important. "Pick one of the larger end row sites to get a little extra elbow room. If it's packed, your neighbor with be within inches of your rig," advises Keith and Tia S. Arriving early improves selection opportunities at first-come, first-served facilities.
