Best RV Parks & Resorts near Hazlet, NJ

Several RV parks near Hazlet provide full hookup options for motorhomes and travel trailers. Turkey Swamp Park in Freehold Township offers spacious pull-through sites with 30-amp electric and water hookups from April through mid-November. "Every site is a pull-through, large and spacious with great woodland views," noted one visitor about the park's heavily wooded setting. Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City provides 90 sites with electric and water hookups but no sewer connections, positioning RVers within easy access to New York City. NWS Earle RV Park in Colts Neck features level concrete pads with full hookups and attached concrete patios, though availability is limited to military personnel from April through mid-November.

Access to several parks requires careful navigation, particularly for larger rigs. The entrance to Military Park NJ National Guard Training Center RV Sites involves a sharp turn and narrow bridge that challenges wider vehicles. Cell service varies significantly between campgrounds, with Turkey Swamp Park offering good reception for Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint users. Most RV parks in the region require advance reservations, especially during summer months and fall foliage season. Dump stations are available at Turkey Swamp Park and Allaire State Park, though the latter has temporarily closed. Pet policies differ substantially—Military Park prohibits pets entirely, while Indian Rock RV Resort welcomes them at most sites. Seasonal operation affects availability, with several parks closing between mid-November and April.

    Adventure Bound Camping (Tall Pines)

    Deceiving Website

We stayed at Adventure Bound Tall Pines in Elmer, New Jersey, for Memorial Day weekend for a quick getaway. Despite reserving and paying for a“Premium” site, it fell far short. But there were still a few things we liked…

    THINGS I LIKED:

    1. Super-friendly staff, especially Allie, who was courteous and seemed to try to make things right

    2. Lots of mature shade trees

    3. DJ at the pool Saturday and Sunday and live band Saturday evening

    4. Close proximity to Delsea Drive-in Theatre and Cohenzick Zoo

THINGS I DIDN’T LIKE SO MUCH:

    1. I reserved and paid-in-full for a premium site which listed 50-amp service and a concrete pad. Nope. Only 30-amp service and no concrete pad. When I called the office, assuming there must’ve been a mistake, I was told by two different staff members that their website is“wonky.” I wouldn’t mind as much, but this weekend was 90-degrees each day and humid, so it would’ve been good to have air conditioning.

    2. The entire park was dirty sand with weeds growing everywhere

    3. This place is not big-rig friendly, difficult to navigate some of the turns in our 45’ motorhome and taking scratches from tree branches that should be trimmed

    4. I paid$432 for 3-nights and feel like I was taken

    WOULD WE COME BACK?

Nope. I’m sticking with campgrounds that give you what you paid for.

    Mahlon Dickerson Reservation

    Nice, small, spacious campground

We stayed at site 15 for 5 days. The sites are nicely wooded, very well spaced, fairly level with 50A service and water hookup. Although the water spigots were shared between sites, they provide hose caddies that should reach most RV hookups. No sewer hookup, but there is a convenient dump station. There are no fire rings in the RV section, only raised grills. We had the place pretty much to ourselves during the week, but the weekend did get busy. AT&T had ok data connection with 1-2 bars most of the time. There is no satellite coverage due to the heavy tree canopy. OTA TV was very inconsistent using an external omni antenna. There is no WiFi. There is a very nice network of trails in the reservation, most if not all were leashed dog friendly. There is a very nice restaurant, Stone Water, less than 10 miles away and is right on lake Hopatcong.

    Panther Lake Camping Resort

    Stayed all summer

We stayed at Panther Lake as full timers all season. Great during the week but very busy on weekends. Could be noisy with children not very well supervised.
Friendly, helpful staff. Cable TV poor when it rains. Cell service spotty all carriers. No internet at sites. Lake beautiful and pool nice.

    Turkey Swamp Park

    Quiet Woodland Campground

Turkey Swamp Park is a great find! Heavily wooded and supremely quiet, it’s located not far from anywhere you’d want to be. 30 minutes to the shore. Every site is a pull-through, large and spacious with great woodland views. 30amp and water. Dump station.

The park has miles of shady forested trails for hiking and dog walking. there’s a large lake here too, for water based recreational activities.

The bathrooms, showers, and laundry are co-located in a centrally situated structure. Everything inside is clean and well-maintained.

We’ve got good cell signal with Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint. (We use all three.) Good OTA television signal also.

We spent three days here in July 2021.

Military Park NJ National Guard Training Center RV Sites

    Quiet, spacious, no frills

We stayed in site #1 with our 21' travel trailer. In our opinion this is the best site because you have an unobstructed view of Stockton Lake & the horizon over the ocean. Big rig spots are further back (around site 6-9 or so). 9 sites total & they are often booked, so need to do so in advance. Free beach just a few moments' walk down the road. Close to shore towns & many restaurants. Plenty of space for kids to play in the field/grass area. TONS of geese everywhere though. Pets are NOT allowed (but they'd probably help w the geese problem). You get access to the showers with a key card and when you check in, but I don't have anything to report as I used the bathroom/shower in our trailer. Price is great at $45/night. FULL hookups as well. Only annoying thing was the sewer hookup is about 18 inches off the ground so you need to lift the hose when emptying the tanks to ensure it actually fully drains.

    Butterfly Camping Resort

    Nice & quiet getaway

    4½ Stars Quick Weekend Getaway

We stayed at Butterfly Camping Resort in Jackson, New Jersey, for a 2-night weekend in late-August. We’re so glad we did!

Our site(#90) was a level pull-thru with 50-amp electric, water, sewer, and cable. It was roomy, shady, and easy to pull in and out. The hook-ups were all well-maintained and worked fine. We had plenty of room to fit our car too. The site included a picnic table, charcoal grill, and fire ring.

The gated campground was clean and well-maintained. The swimming pool was large and the water crystal clear. The store was stocked with typical essentials like supplies, fire wood, and snacks. Most of the neighboring RVs were nice and in good shape. The park has bath facilities, a dump station on the way out, and lots of play areas.

The front office staff were all friendly and we love that, especially when checking in at a new campground. When I called for a last-minute reservation, they seemed glad to have us.

This park is close to Great Adventure and not far from the Jersey shore if that’s in your plans.

There were two observations I’d categorize as ‘no park is perfect.’ The site was sandy. The whole place is sandy. This is messy, especially after a bit of rain(which we had), and makes it a constant challenge to keep the sand out of the RV. If the site had gravel, grass, or some other surface, this would be a 5-star review. They offer wifi which is nice to have, but it didn’t work very well. I realize this is a common complaint at many campgrounds, but we’ve come to want to stay connected(at least, a little).

This is a really nice campground with inviting pool and facilities. We can’t wait to go back!

    Panther Lake Camping Resort

    Great place for groups

Fun camping place to books groups. Very kid and pet friendly, lake to fish and kayak on, lots of activities, great pool and awesome hot tub. Only down side is that even though they say they have wifi, you can't hook up to it unless you are at the pavilion. And good luck getting cell service! its like a black hole of signals there. Otherwise, we really love this place!

    Turkey Swamp Park

    large wooded sites

This campground has all pull-through sites. Nicely wooded with water and electric. Be sure to bring extra hose because the water spigot is a distance from the electric. sites are level and well maintained. They also allowed us to put the car tent on the same site as a friend's camper. There's a nice lake to kayak or paddle boat on. each site has a fire pit, picnic table and garbage can

Guide to Hazlet

Rv sites near Hazlet, New Jersey range from densely wooded county parks to military installations with full hookups. These Central Jersey camping locations offer varied terrain and seasonal operation windows, with most open from April through mid-November when temperatures average 45-75°F. Many sites require navigation through wooded areas on unpaved roads that can become challenging after rain.

What to do

Archery practice: Turkey Swamp Park offers dedicated archery facilities where campers can practice their skills. "Plenty to do over a 2 night stay. Archery, boating, fishing, and hiking. Boat rental rates are acceptable and there are four different styles to choose from," notes a visitor at Turkey Swamp Park.

Lake activities: Fishing and paddle sports are popular at campgrounds with water access. "There is a nice lake to kayak or paddle boat on," comments a Turkey Swamp Park guest. The park also provides bait sales at the ranger office for fishing enthusiasts.

Urban exploration: For campers seeking metropolitan experiences, Jersey City provides direct access to Manhattan. "The ONLY thing we really liked about it was its convenient location to the city with easy access to the ferry boats," states a camper at Liberty Harbor RV Park about the urban camping experience.

Beach access: Several campgrounds offer proximity to New Jersey beaches. A reviewer at Military Park NJ National Guard Training Center notes, "Free beach just a few moments' walk down the road. Close to shore towns & many restaurants."

What campers like

Wooded sites: Many campers appreciate the forested settings at certain campgrounds. A guest at Turkey Swamp Park reported, "Sites are in the woods and widely spaced apart to give you privacy and the feeling of being out in the Forrest."

Urban proximity: The ability to camp near New York City draws many RVers. "Location, location, location. The closest RV park to NYC," states a Liberty Harbor RV Park visitor. Another mentions, "Two ferries that run to Manhattan. Path train is a 12 minute walk away that will take you to Manhattan."

Clean facilities: Well-maintained bathrooms and showers rate highly among campers. "The bathrooms and showers are clean and well maintained," notes a Turkey Swamp visitor. Another camper at Allaire State Park mentioned, "Clean bathrooms. Sites are a little too close together."

Winter camping options: Some area campgrounds remain open year-round. "Getting a cabin in the winter and going for a snowy hike is wonderful there," says an Allaire State Park visitor about off-season stays.

What you should know

Pest concerns: Insects can be problematic at wooded sites during warmer months. A Turkey Swamp Park camper warned, "By the 2nd day I had 3 ticks on me. My dog had one and by the end my husband had 2. That was so crazy because we were just sitting by our camper."

Traffic noise: Proximity to highways affects sound levels at some campgrounds. An Allaire State Park visitor noted, "Noisy with highway traffic. Sites are a little too close together."

Access limitations: Several military campgrounds restrict eligibility. NWS Earle RV Park serves military personnel, while a Military Park NJ National Guard reviewer mentions, "You get access to the showers with a key card and when you check in."

Sewer connection heights: Some campgrounds have unusual utility placement. At Military Park, "Only annoying thing was the sewer hookup is about 18 inches off the ground so you need to lift the hose when emptying the tanks to ensure it actually fully drains."

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Multiple campgrounds feature play areas for children. "There are playgrounds and picnic areas as well," notes a Turkey Swamp Park visitor. Another mentions, "Centralized playground for the kids with bathrooms and showers next door."

Theme park proximity: Indian Rock RV Resort provides convenient access to nearby attractions. "We stayed two nights at this park because we wanted to spend a day at Six flags. We would camp here again to go to six flags because it was easy to drive back a few minutes after a long day at the park," shares a visitor.

Bug management: Parents should prepare for insects at wooded campgrounds. "We were worried about bugs, but we didn't even use mosquito repellent and didn't get a single bite!" reports a Turkey Swamp Park camper with 2- and 3-year-old children.

Space considerations: Site selection matters for family comfort. "Sites are level and well maintained. They also allowed us to put the car tent on the same site as a friend's camper," notes a Turkey Swamp Park visitor about accommodating multiple sleeping arrangements.

Tips from RVers

Urban camping costs: RV sites with city access command premium rates. "The $120 price per night was ridiculous. But being that they have no competitors in the area (and they know it), RVers wanting a quick escape to see NYC can get it here," explains a Liberty Harbor visitor.

Military base amenities: Fort Dix Range 14 Camp provides basic but functional military camping. "Clean and gravel. Lots of military training nearby but overall a quiet stay. On the beaten path but a bit further into the trees so you're not hearing so much road noise," reports a visitor to this military camping option.

Utility connections: Water and electric hookup placement varies significantly between campgrounds. A Turkey Swamp Park visitor advises, "Be sure to bring extra hose because the water spigot is a distance from the electric."

Site selection: Corner positions often provide more space at crowded campgrounds. A visitor to Liberty Harbor RV Park recommends, "Pick one of the larger end row sites to get a little extra elbow room. If it's packed, your neighbor with be within inches of your rig."
