When you’re camping in New Hampshire you don’t have to choose between going on a hardcore hike or relaxing in your hammock on a quiet lakeshore. Lake Winnipesaukee is by far the largest and best-known body of freshwater in the Granite State, but New Hampshire is dotted with bodies of water of all sizes, from the swimming holes and rushing rivers of the mountains, to the ponds and lakes lined with classic cottages in the aptly named Lakes Region. 


Fortunately for all of us, mountains are just as plentiful. While Mount Washington, in the heart of the White Mountain National Forest, has the most name recognition in the state (and claims to have the worst weather in the world), it’s not even the only notable peak to bag in the Presidential Range. Adams, Jefferson, Monroe, Madison, Pierce, Eisenhower, and Jackson mountains can all be ticked off your list of New Hampshire’s 48 4,000-footers. And the White Mountains aren’t the only game in town either. Go camping at Monadnock State Park and do any number of hikes in the area, including the ever-popular Mount Monadnock, of course. Mount Monadnock’s isolated peak provides fantastic views and is one of the most frequently hiked mountains in the world.

Other attractions include the Enfield Shaker Village, on Mascoma Lake, and Dartmouth College, in Hanover, just 30 minutes away.

A secluded campsite nestled in the mountains of Vermont, come enjoy the fresh air, nature, and babbling brooks that surround the site.  Sit around the fire and enjoy the stars and fireflies or snuggle up next to the woodstove on chilly evenings. Visit Roaring Ridge, a hidden paradise (in photos) with breathtaking views of the mountains in NH.
 
Enjoy hiking, mountain biking, and walking on the many trails and dirt roads that surround the site.  Kayaking and fishing are just a short drive away.
  
Take a day trip to Stowe for shopping and dining and visit Ben and Jerrys ice cream factory on the way. The drive is beautiful and you will get a great flavor for Vermont and its beautiful landscape.  

We provide many free extras to take the hassle out of packing. Plates, glasses and utensils, a gas grill, basic cookware, a lantern for the tent and firewood for the woodstove along with other camping essentials. There is an additional 4 person tent that is available upon request and is easy for you to set up.  Bedding is provided and you can choose your theme: bear, moose, cabin (see pics for selection).  The bed has a feather top mattress for added comfort. If you prefer to bring your own bedding, we will provide a mattress cover and bottom sheet.

We are completely off-grid but do have an outdoor shower which is powered by a generator.   You are welcome to use it and there are clear instructions for using the generator and setting up the shower.  There's nothing like having a hot shower after a day of hiking.  We also offer an outhouse which is very clean and dedicated to the Tentrr site.  The Loo is still available upon request.  Groton State Forest with it's many hiking, biking and swimming options is just a short drive away.  We will also provide you with the many options for local food and entertainment.  There are several farms close to the site that provide pizza night, music and local foods, a great Vermont experience.

While Tentrr does not charge a cleaning fee, we do expect campsites to be left how they were found. The Hummingbird Center is an educational homestead and organic permaculture farm nestled in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. We offer a variety of lodging options including field & platform tent camping, vehicle spots, treehouses, schoolbuses, tiny house, red house and yoga room.

During your stay, we encourage you to explore the property. There are miles of machine built mountain biking and cross country skiing trails on the property. Our property abuts the vast GreenWoodlands Trail network. Visitors have access to farm store, kitchen, ponds, streams, showers, communal firepit & outdoor cooking areas. Farm animals, orchards and gardens create a unique experience.

The Hummingbird Center Farm

Rustic camping in the NH north country. We are right in the middle of the White Mountains, in Whitefield NH surrounded by endless rivers, lakes, hiking trails, dining, breweries and attractions. The Heritage trail is accessible nearby. Whitefield is the approximate halfway point for the Cross NH Adventure Trail.

On clear nights, the view of the stars and the milky way here is magnificent. We intentionally leave the majority of the field unmowed which attracts monarch butterflies and other wildlife. The campsite is private, yet close to the conveniences of downtown Whitefield and nearby Littleton, Bethlehem and Lancaster.

IMPORTANT HOUSEKEEPING ITEMS. PLEASE READ BEFORE BOOKING:

THIS IS A RUSTIC CAMPSITE with no amenities. If you are expecting the KOA, please do not book this site. The campsite is located in rural northern New Hampshire, in a field next to the forest where many animals live such as bears, moose, deer, raccoons, fox, skunks, porcupines, coyotes, etc. Mosquitoes and other bugs are present in the summer. Please be mindful of the surrounding wildlife. Please come PREPARED for rustic backwoods camping and observe bear safety at all times (SEE BEAR SAFETY INFO BELOW)

RV INFO: We do not have hookups of any kind (NO electricity, NO water or sewer). We are currently only set up for self-contained units (dry-camping or boondocking as some call it). We can accommodate small travel trailers <20ft, campervans, truck campers, small camper busses. NO 5th Wheels or RV's >20ft please. 4-wheel drive is recommended, but not required.

FIRE: A small campfire pit is available (dependent on local fire danger warnings of course). Please observe local fire danger warnings. Bring your own firewood and please do not light the large bonfire in the middle of the field. Please do not cut down trees or branches.

NO PETS: Because we are a working farm with chickens, farm dogs and surrounding wildlife guests are not permitted to bring dogs or pets of any kind. If you love animals and enjoy a little "dog/chicken therapy" this is the place for you. Please do not book this site if you don't like animals.

TRASH: A small trashcan and recycle bin for empty cans and bottles are located next to the outhouse. Please PACK OUT excessive amounts of trash.

We have NO BATHROOM, kitchen or shower facilities and there is no potable water on site. An OUTHOUSE composting toilet is available.

NO DUMPING of grey or black water anywhere on the property.

ABOUT THE PROPERTY: Our folk victorian farmhouse has been owned by the same family for seven generations since it was built in the 1850s. Once a 20-acre working dairy farm, much of the land was subdivided throughout the years, leaving five acres with the original barn, farmhouse, large field, and wooded area. We are a small family farm offering farm-fresh eggs and seasonal vegetables. We are honored to be stewards of this property and want to share it with others.

Private Field and Woods Camping 

Welcome to Base Camp! Located in the Dartmouth-Lake Sunapee Region Base Camp is the starting point for your exploration of the Upper Connecticut River Valley! Located near Hanover NH and Dartmouth College only a 20 minute drive to shopping and restaurants! Base Camp is in the center of the action here in the Upper Valley, but still with an outdoor experience! Just 15 minutes away from Cardigan Mountain State Park where you can hike the West Ridge Trail and bag your first 3000 footer, a 5-minute walk to Canaan St. Beach and the Canaan historic district. At Canaan St. Beach you can swim, kayak, canoe, fish, or just enjoy the sun and the view and it's one of New Hampshire's cleanest lakes! We are also one mile from the Northern Rail Trail! There is so much to do nearby!

Base Camp is an easy access site. The driveway is located immediately off Roberts Road 100 feet from the door of your tent.

When you stay at our campsite, you are never far from the action. But the campsite is a relaxing and peaceful setting that will provide an exceptional outdoor experience.

Base Camp is a complete site! Extra amenities included at no charge include a camp stove, fire wood cut and split at the site and an outdoor shower with hot water. The tent has two interior lamps, a heater to keep you warm on those chilly nights and a portable power station that provides 120 volt AC/12 volt DC and a wireless phone charger.

Optional amenities include bedding, cots and other items setup and waiting for your arrival. Just check the appropriate box under Extras.

Tentrr Signature Site - Base Camp

Surrounded on three sides by two brooks and the Dog River, our property covers a bit more than one acre in size. It is situated on a residential road in Riverton (or West Berlin), VT, near route 12, just six miles south of Montpelier, and four miles north of Northfield. So it's rural, but still very close to grocery shopping and laundromat. We have electrical hook-up available. From mid-July through late October, there is WIFI available although the signal is not strong up by the electrical hook-up. It's strongest towards the river.

Mountain bike trails are close by. Boyer State Forest is two miles away (for hiking and biking). Norwich University, five miles away in Northfield, has hiking and biking trails. Ellie's Farm Market (walking distance) has local organic produce in season as well as local cheese and maple products.

Park your RV, and you will have river access, as well as access to the two small brooks on the property. Feel free to pitch a tent as well, but note that we do not have a restroom for guests or a water hookup.

Boyer State Forest, two miles away, provides a variety of recreational opportunities including hiking, mountain biking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, hunting and wildlife viewing. It's a rural area, and we are flanked by neighbors with animals, so you may hear chickens, goats, and dogs. There are many lovely trees on the property, offering fall color as well as shade.

To limit the potential impact of community spread during the Covid-19 pandemic, we are encouraging our campers and hosts to adopt self-check in procedures whenever possible. To make self check-in easy, Tentrr provides a map to your site and driving directions in an email sent out a few days before your reservation. Please refer to this guide to get to your campsite. As a reminder, it is good practice to give your host a head's up on your estimated arrival time a few days beforehand. If you need any assistance, you can reach out to your host through the contact information provided in your confirmation email.

Other Things to Note:
Do bring your swimsuit if you like to swim or walk along the river as your campsite is just 75 feet from water. Shallow during the mid summer months but 5 feet deep in the spring and fall. Don't forget to bring a fishing pole or a tube for the River. This site is dog friendly! Please be prepared to camp and bring along a few blankets for the bunkbeds
