    I-80 Lakeside Campground

    Great little retreat

Very nice park just off I-80. There's a nice little lake that you can swim and fish (catch and release only), or rent a kayak or little boat. Full hookups available, with many pull through spots as well. Each spot has a fire pit and picnic table. In the middle of the grounds is a children's playground and 2 small fenced dog runs. Nice bathroom and shower facilities, and a nice store for many of your needs. And if you need more, there's 2 truck stops (travel plazas) across the interstate. Maybe the only drawback would be interstate noise. I highly recommend.

    Lafayette Park Campground

    Okay Campground

Our RV GPS took us right through the middle of Gothenberg where WAZE and Google Maps wanted to take us around on Avenue G to 11th St. Around to 11th would have cut out a lot of the stops going through town and the bumpy railroad tracks. But otherwise, it was not hard to find this campground(CG). The park office was not open this day at 3:00 PM as the person was out until the evening. We had reservations so we got a map and proceeded to pull-through site 23 with water(shared between two sites) and electric(50/30 AMP). The map didn’t help much but this was a small CG so we drove until we found the site and then maneuvered between the huge oak trees. We had to disconnect and park our F450 lateral to fit. Since the small back-in site 24 shares water with our site 23, and we were told the CG was going to be full, we put in enough water for our overnight stay instead of staying hooked up to water. Across from our site was a little covered bridge that took us to the main city park area, which was great to walk our dogs. We got a good variety of OTA channels. The satellite would be iffy from most sites due to the large oaks. This CG was okay for large rigs just be careful on site selection as some of the sites are short and back-ins were tight. There are sites like ours that will take bigger rigs but the easiest in/out site for larger rigs is pull through 28. There was a 40+ foot class A parked in 28 when we were there. The CG was okay for a short stay.

Main Campground — Johnson Lake State Recreation Area

    Lovely Area to Camp

I stayed at the Main camp ground with a great lake view on site 76. Sites 77-86 are pull through and the rest are back in for RV. There are also tent sites near the water. There are bathrooms, showers and electric (50/30amp), there are no water hook-ups. The dump station is currently closed (April 2024) due to construction. The camp grounds are close together but they have planted bushes between them to create privacy. I cant speak on the bathroom or showers as the are closed since it is off season.

    Lafayette Park Campground

Very Nice People, Lots of open space

We stopped here, off I80, on our way east from California. It was convenient. We were the only campers, as it is off season. I used The online reservation system, but chose to stay in an alternate site, because ours wasn’t level. Our other site was listed as a pull-thru, but it’s good no one else was there, because it wasn’t long enough for our 45’ rig and our tow vehicle. So I’d caution other big rigs that they might have to unhook their tow vehicle at this park, depending on how full it is.

    Holiday RV Park

    Right off Interstate 80

Quiet RV spot with a diner right near for good breakfast.  Seems like many tenants were long term.  Nice people that run the campground.  Stayed only one night as we were passing through.

    I-80 Lakeside Campground

    Nice for overnight!

Arrived 7pm without a reservation. Clear list of available sites, amenities and prices. Grassy gravel pad, long enough to stay hooked up and wide enough to have slides out without feeling like you’re in your neighbor’s site . Full hookups worked fine. Restrooms older but clean. Soap dispensers and towels were empty. The campground layout was meandering so it didn’t feel like a parking lot. Some sites right next to the river, some away. Where we were the freeway noise was not so bad. Would stay here again.

    Holiday RV Park

    Great stop over for us!

Friendly staff!  We stayed in Site 84. Gravel pull through that was level.  Close, but not too close to neighbors.  Lots of grassy areas to walk the dogs with waste stations and bags.  Although we have no kids traveling with us, the playground area was in great shape and had lots to do.  Laundry room is clean as well.  Easy on/off access to highway.  No issues with ou AT&T and T-Mobile service.  Would recommend this campsite.

    Blue Heron Campground

Campground is now Blue Heron Campground

Off of I-80 at Exit 211 is Blue Heron Campground. The new owners took possession in 2021 and it is no longer a KOA. There are 40 RV/Trailer sites that vary from pull thru to back in. Of those sites 17 are Full Hookups and the rest are water/electric. Full runs &45/ night, W/E run $39-42. The campground has laundry, playground, restrooms(which are very clean) and there’s cute lamps scattered throughout. The areas are nice and kept up. There are also 3 cabins with swings, air, benches and fire pit which run $55 a night. This is a good place to stop and can hardly hear the interstate traffic. There are also really nice areas for tents that have picnic tables and fire pits with benches and there are water spigots scattered

    Cody City Park Campground

City park. Close to Highway so it might be a little noisey

Most cities in Nebraska have these type of site. Grass and sand but has 30 amp electric. Has a dump station along with restrooms and showers. Good place to stay one night. Need to check out the grocery store next to the site.

Guide to Brady

The central Nebraska region surrounding Brady offers a transition zone between the Platte River Valley and Sandhills regions. Camping areas typically sit at elevations between 2,500-2,800 feet, with hot summers reaching 90°F and winter lows often below 20°F. Seasonal water levels in nearby lakes and reservoirs fluctuate substantially, affecting both fishing access and campsite availability.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: At West Maxwell WMA, visitors can fish directly from the accessible piers. "The bank is surrounded by cattails with a nice ramp and only two wheelchair accessible peers to fish from," notes Matthew B., adding that despite highway proximity, "if I'm ever back this way, I would stay here without a second thought."

Lake activities: I-80 Lakeside Campground offers kayak rentals for paddling their small lake. "There's a nice little lake that you can swim and fish (catch and release only), or rent a kayak or little boat," says Jason V., who appreciated that "in the middle of the grounds is a children's playground and 2 small fenced dog runs."

Walking trails: Lafayette Park Campground connects to recreational areas via covered bridges. Carol B. describes the experience: "Enjoyed walking around the park & swimming the dog in the fishing pond. Facilities older but clean and well maintained." The park provides access to Lake Helen Recreation Area for extended walks.

What campers like

Quiet camping: Main Area Campground at Johnson Lake delivers peaceful lakeside sites. "Nice quiet campground! We tent camped, it was a nice grassy spot! Our camp site had a picnic table and a fire ring! We chose one on the end with trees on one side so more privacy," reports Natalee M.

Accessible amenities: RV parks near Brady provide essential services for travelers. "Nice facility... Centrally located if you plan to visit the many things to see in North Platte," says Leslie B. about Holiday RV Park, noting that "the bathrooms are clean" and there's "a small fenced in dog park."

Lakeside views: Camping near water ranks highly among visitor preferences. "Spots are clean, squirrels running around, tables and firepits," Richard writes about Main Area Campground. Kelvin T. adds: "the site I stayed at was right next to the lake. In the morning, the trees were beautifully lined along the campsites."

What you should know

Highway proximity: Many rv parks near Brady, Nebraska sit close to Interstate 80, creating background noise. At West Maxwell WMA, Laura M. observes: "Peaceful spot by a lake all to ourselves. After dark highway traffic subsided and we were able to sleep soundly."

Cell service coverage: Mobile reception varies by location and carrier. At West Maxwell WMA, Eliana P. reports: "Medium coverage on Verizon — it better the closer you get to the highway/lake side of the lot." John Rushton A. confirms: "Arrived pretty late into the night, but it was easy to find and no one else was there. Camped by the pond in my tent... With Verizon reception."

Shower facilities: Pay showers appear common at campgrounds in the area. Chuck M. notes about Main Area Campground: "The only annoying thing was needing quarters to shower. $1.25 for 7.5 minutes." Some RV parks near Brady may not offer shower facilities at all during off-season months.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Several campgrounds provide playground equipment. Brandon G. recommends Holiday RV Park: "Great campground! Very reasonably priced, shaded, level sites, great wifi, and a nice pool! What more could you ask for?"

Swimming options: Summer temperatures make water access valuable. Jason V. notes that I-80 Lakeside Campground allows swimming in their lake. Chuck M. adds that Main Area Campground provides "easy self checkin" but reminds families to "BRING CASH and QUARTERS" for facilities.

Space between sites: Site spacing varies significantly between campgrounds. At Blue Heron Campground, Shannon G. reports: "There are 40 RV/Trailer sites that vary from pull thru to back in. Of those sites 17 are Full Hookups and the rest are water/electric... There are also really nice areas for tents that have picnic tables and fire pits with benches."

Site leveling: Level sites reduce setup time for RVs. Bonnie A. appreciated Holiday RV Park's "level gravel sites, right off of I80, close to shopping and restaurants." Similarly, at I-80 Lakeside, Rara B. reports: "Without a reservation, we were able to show up and get a spot with ALL our wants 50A—water—pull through site."
