Prettiest sunset on the Missouri River

Super friendly people. They had gotten flooded out two weeks before I got there so there were a few things being rebuilt. They still offered everything they could to me including an indoor shower and bathrooms. A perfect spot if you want to escape road noise and light pollution and be lulled to sleep by the noise of the river not but eight feet away.

    Great Route 66 stop

The camp area looks new, cute playground, small fenced dog park type area, showers, laundry, fire pits and picnic tables. Very little trees or grass. Would love it if they played up the Route 66 theme they have going. Very convenient for our fishing trip!

    Pleasant surprise

This was a nice short notice trip we took. Only downside is it’s near MU, so throughout the day, you get a lot of kids hanging out until the “quiet hours” set in. Next time we’ll bring bikes and hop on the trail.

Also, we caught an AMAZING sunset from our site!

MO River & Katy trail fun

See beautiful scenery on the MO River & Katy Trail. You may get to see a paddleboat cruising the river. Cooper’s has spectacular sunsets, a boat ramp, dock, trails, bonfires, live music, and a very friendly atmosphere.

The Katy trail runs through the edge of the property, offering quick access to trail walking, hiking, and bicycling.

The general store has many options including a wide variety of food and drinks. It also has a small bicycle repair area set up outside.

I highly recommend the delicious Thai food restaurant on site.

    Prices are very reasonable.

    Nice area

Good area only a mile off the highway so it made a great night stopping point. Had great access for our starlink. They have a little dog park, kids park, and it was all clean and well maintained. Easy access and some nice pull through spots. Water, sewer, and electric hook ups. Fire pit and picnic table at site. Since it’s close the highway it was a little loud with traffic. 57$ a night for premium spots, 42$ a night for non premium

    Loved it here

Leaving this magical place today. For anyone wanting to stay be aware they have live music Thursday through Sunday. They wrap everything up by 10pm and it’s very quiet late night. This weekend they had special events everyday related to the Katy trail right next to it. You will have water and electric but no sewer and no dump station on site. Plan your length of stay accordingly. In addition to the live music, food trucks come in and there is a cash bar/store with drinks, snacks, firewood and ice. It’s a very small campground and you are not walled off from the general public. If this is your style of camping you will really enjoy this place. Built in the 70’s on the banks of the Missouri River I had an amazing time. It was like being on vacation from my full time vacation lifestyle. I didn’t grocery shop the whole time.

Guide to Tuscumbia

Situated along the Osage River in central Missouri, Tuscumbia experiences moderate climate patterns with average summer temperatures reaching 89°F and winter lows dropping to 22°F. The region's mixed hardwood forests and limestone bluffs create natural windbreaks for campers, with seasonal rainfall patterns affecting river conditions from March through October. The surrounding Mark Twain National Forest provides additional primitive camping options with varied terrain.

What to do

Hiking natural trails: Lane Spring Recreation Area offers several hiking paths through forested terrain. A visitor noted, "I didn't have a lot of time to explore Lane Springs Recreation Area, but it looked nice." The recreation area features a large creek running around the campground with wildflowers visible in spring months.

Float trips: Niangua River Oasis provides river access for floating adventures from April through October. One camper shared, "We did a 14 mile float trip would always get rafts and canoes and kayaks." The outfitter offers free camping when purchasing float trips, with family camping areas separate from riverfront sites.

Trout fishing: Bennett Spring State Park Campground maintains a trout hatchery with regular fish releases. According to a reviewer, "This is one of Missouri's 'trout parks' with a hatchery and release sites so fishing (which actually becomes catching) is a big draw." The park sells fishing permits at their camp store along with recommended lures for seasonal conditions.

What campers like

Waterfront access: Many campsites provide direct water proximity for recreation and scenic views. At Cooper's Landing Campgrounds and Marina, campers appreciate the riverside setting, with one noting, "Campsites were right on the Missouri River. Had great views and a stunning sunset." The site offers opportunities to watch river traffic and wildlife.

Live entertainment: Several campgrounds host regular music events during camping season. One visitor to Cooper's Landing mentioned, "They have a cute stage for what looked like live music and a little tug boat sits in their boat ramp." Events typically run Thursday through Sunday with performances ending by 10 pm.

Year-round availability: Several campgrounds remain open throughout winter months. A camper at Bennett Spring State Park shared, "We stayed in campground one because it is the only one open during the off season. You can make reservations online before going to ensure you have the spot you want." Winter camping offers quieter experiences with fewer occupied sites.

What you should know

Military recreation restrictions: Military Park Fort Leonard Wood Lake of the Ozarks Recreation Area limits access to specific groups. One reviewer clarified, "Absolutely hidden gem on the lake available for military (active/retired/DAV). Has full hookups, big rig friendly and has a large array of boats you can rent." Access requirements are strictly enforced at check-in.

Seasonal variations: Weather conditions impact campsite availability and river activities. A visitor to Niangua River Oasis advised, "Everyone was nice that worked there. Didn't have any problems with the people around us but we were in the family area." Most water-based recreation operations run April through October with limited services outside peak season.

Yurt camping options: For alternative accommodation near Tuscumbia, Missouri, yurt camping provides solid shelter with canvas walls. Yurt camping in Tuscumbia area sites like Cooper's Landing offers more weather protection than tent camping while maintaining connection to natural surroundings.
