Greensfelder County Park near Six Flags amusement park features pet-friendly camping with both tent and RV sites. Dogs are welcome throughout the campground, with 10 electric hookup sites designed for equestrian campers that non-horse campers can also use. The park maintains clean facilities with hot showers and restrooms available year-round. Sites include picnic tables, fire pits, and grills. Heavy equestrian use means occasional horse droppings, though the area is generally well-maintained. Each campsite has electricity with 20-amp plugs and most have 30-amp service as well.

Hiking trails accessible directly from the campground provide excellent opportunities for dog walking, with multiple trailheads located near the camping area. Despite being just minutes from the highway and Six Flags, the wooded setting creates a more secluded feel than expected. The family tent sites position close to the main road, which means some traffic noise during daylight hours but quiet evenings. Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Resort also accepts pets and offers more amenities for families, including swimming, mini-golf, and organized activities. Both locations maintain a well-stocked camp store for basic supplies, though bringing pet food and waste bags is recommended as pet-specific items may be limited.

Twin Eagle Lake Estates & Hideout

      Beautiful place-

This was our first trip together in our new camper. It was a little rough assessing the place thru the website but the reviews swayed us. There are walking paths all around and a beautiful lake /clubhouse area. Super people running the place and of course other campers were so helpful. We took our 2 dogs and would have loved a little more grass for their paws as the entire camping area is rough gravel. We’re hoping for a dog park in the future....? The lake has many easy entrances for swimmers near the club house - broad steps or large boulder for the more adventurous. Can be a bit slippery tho so bring your water shoes. Kids seemed to have little problem. Saturday night there was live music. Just a single guy with a guitar but great choice of music and great singing voice. Had a great 2 days. We plan to come back.

St. Louis West / Historic Route 66 KOA

Good location for exploring St. Louis

This campground is fairly close to downtown and very close to lots of shopping. A great place to stay to stock up on supplies before heading west. We stayed 2 nights to have a day to visit the Gateway Arch. The pool and playground seemed nice even though we didn’t use them. Nice dog park for smaller dogs. Several cabins are available along with RV sites. The tent sites are next to a river under large trees. Plenty of spaces for big rigs. Our site was no very level but nothing our auto-leveling couldn’t handle.

      KOA in Eureka, MO

Nice, clean campground, level pull-through sites - ours had a paver-patio and grill, a lot of shade throughout, dog park, and a creek to explore. This was our 2nd time here. Close to Saint Louis, Six Flags, and hiking.

      St. Francois State Park Campground

      St. Francois

We had a beautiful campsite with soft grassy ground. We did have a mole or something burrowing around so you had to watch for loose dirt clods but that was NBD. The site had a picnic table and fire ring. There were pit toilets, no showers. Spigots throughout the area. Within walking distance of the river and trail access. Beautiful hiking on the bluffs above the river. The hosts were really friendly. There was also a very cute and very friendly kitty running around the area hunting grasshoppers. He hung out for some pets and cuddles then wandered off for some more adventure. I kind of want to be that cat. ^_^

      St. Peters' 370 Lakeside Park

      Convenient to St. Charles

Easy off I-370, campground is new and large. It is on a lake with bike trails, kayak rental, and kids splash pad. Staff were helpful. I received about 5 pieces of paper when checking in. You need a code to get into the dog park. Shopping nearby. Used this as a base to visit historic St Charles.

LEDLENDSER MH10 and KOA Route 66 review

      Campground review:

Once googling local campsites at the last minute for a weekend getaway with both dogs, we came route 66 campground. They have a dog park, rv hookup sites, electric tent sites and primitive sites. We stayed at a primitive tent site with both dogs. Site t13, which unfortunately was one of the very few camp spots with zero trees so we're unable to use our hammock. (Most of the other sites had great trees for hammock setups). Other amenities on the campground included a heated pool, bike rentals, basketball courts, a country store for firewood, supplies, and gift shop. Needless to say this was not a "roughing" it type campground. For the dogs though, we were right across from the creek to take them down to play. Also, kids were catching crawdads! Great campsite that is pet friendly and very family friendly!

      Product review:

      Ledlenser mh10

This headlamp first of all comes with a 7 year warrantly(must register the product)! On top of that all these features: a rechargeable battery with a USB port. Rapid focus system with 2 tough button on headlamp to adjust lighting. The strap is very easy to adjust and fit to comfort, lightweight despise the battery pack attached to the headlamp. The lighting is phenomenal! You also get a green and red additional glass lense that you can screw into the front of your lense for any activity and not disturb others with a bright white light. Me, howsoever, I was able to on this camping trip, use the headlamp to continue to play a game of cornhole... and winter, might I add.. thanks to my headlamp for optimal vision;). Included are some pictures of how bright and fitting the headlamp is. I was highly impressed! Never once did it slip... which I have struggled with in many headlamps that it seems the lamp is too heavy and slowly makes its way down your forehead. The Ledlenser stays in place and is very comfortable! Also, doesn't leave that weird band line on your head... at least I didn't experience it like I have on others. Very impressed overall!

    Guide to Ballwin

Robertsville State Park Campground offers tent and RV sites within a 30-minute drive from Ballwin, Missouri. Located along the Meramec River at an elevation of around 500 feet, this wooded park features shaded campsites with electric hookups amid Missouri's humid continental climate. The campground remains open year-round with seasonal temperature variations from hot, muggy summers to cold winters.

    What to do

Hiking trails by camp: At Greensfelder County Park, trails start directly from the campground for immediate access to nature walks. "The park is known for its well-groomed trails, which are used by hikers, mountain bikers, and equestrians alike," notes Lucas M., who adds that the park has "plenty of stables surround the area, where you may rent a horse and go for a stroll through the woods."

Water recreation options: At St. Peters' 370 Lakeside Park, campers enjoy multiple water activities around the lake. "The park/campground rents paddleboats, kayaks, and canoes in addition to different kinds of bikes. There is a walking trail around the lake (4+ miles). There is fish in the lake and you are allowed to fish," shares Mats in their review, highlighting the variety of options.

Winery visits: For wine enthusiasts, Beyond the Trail RV Park provides easy access to local establishments. "It is located in a sleepy little winery town. It is just a few minutes from the main part of town with multiple beautiful wineries within a few miles," writes Jamie C., who recommends bringing bikes to access everything via the Katy Trail.

    What campers like

Easy city access: Many campers appreciate how St. Peters' 370 Lakeside Park combines nature with urban convenience. One reviewer noted, "This is a great place to kayak and camp if you don't want to drive that fare and live in the city," while another called it the "Best campsite we've found to explore STL."

Riverside relaxation: At Klondike Park, campers enjoy the peaceful setting and waterfront views. "Klondike park is a gorgeous park along the Katy Trail in Augusta, MO. The campsites are very quiet, very family friendly park," writes Lindsey R. Another camper adds, "The views around the pond are amazing. There is a sandy beach area surrounding the water, making it a great place either lay in the sun or to go fishing."

Clean facilities: Visitors to dog-friendly campgrounds near Ballwin often mention the well-maintained amenities. At Robertsville State Park, campers appreciate the bathroom facilities. As Ana B. notes, "The bathroom facilities were clean and equipped with a washer and dryer and vending machines. There's nothing better than a hot shower on a chilly morning!"

    What you should know

Weather considerations: Missouri's climate affects camping conditions. "During the time I spent here 2 different homeless looking kids stopped by asking for food, money, to borrow my phone to make a call," reports Lucas M. about Greensfelder County Park, adding that "ticks are everywhere-which is not a big deal if you know what you're doing."

Site leveling challenges: Many campsites in the region require preparation for uneven terrain. At Robertsville State Park, one camper advises, "The lots are pretty uneven so make sure you bring plenty of cribbing." Similarly, at Klondike Park, campers note "You need to look carefully for a level tent site as some are fairly slopped."

Noise factors: Despite wooded settings, some campgrounds have noise considerations. At Greensfelder, Lucas mentions "Being very close, the freeway noise is still present, and you'll find many motorcycles riding by you on their way through the winding roads of Wildwood." Similar reports come from Sundermeier RV Park where train and airplane noise affect the experience.

    Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Cahokia RV Parque offers designated play areas for children. "There is a playground, pool and pond area to walk around," notes Carlyne F. Another visitor, Kelsey R., enthusiastically adds, "Oh and an awesome playground for the kids!!"

Wildlife viewing opportunities: Kids enjoy spotting animals at several pet-friendly campgrounds near Ballwin. At St. Peters' 370 Lakeside Park, Annie C. shares that "You can see all kinds of wildlife in and around the lake- deer, bald eagles, pelicans, ducks, snakes." Joseph F. reports his "Kids had a blast riding bikes. Even finding a few little frogs jumping around and fireflies at night."

Seasonal activities: Time your visit to match family-friendly programming. At Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Resort, reviewers mention organized events: "This is a nice little hidden gem outside St. Louis in a great county park. If you are a Six Flags kinda person, the amusement park sits at the southern entrance to Greensfelder."

    Tips from RVers

Hookup considerations: At Robertsville State Park Campground, RVers should note the limited utilities. "The spaces are electric only, so if you are wanting full hookups you better look elsewhere. Also they have communist water so you don't get to hookup to that all the time either," explains Montt B.

Site selection strategy: At Greensfelder County Park, RVers should choose sites based on size requirements. Matthew H. advises, "Only sites 20-29 have electric and 28 can't be reserved," and notes that "site 29 where we stayed can fit a 40' fifth wheel" while "sites 24-26 can fit a fifth wheel probably no bigger than 36-38 ft."

Electrical safety: Some RV parks have electrical challenges to monitor. At Covered Bridge RV Park, experienced RVers recommend bringing electrical management systems. While not directly stated in reviews, several campgrounds mention having varying amp services, so checking ahead about electrical compatibility is advised for RVers in the Ballwin area.
