Lake Hudson Recreation Area features spacious sites with electricity for pet owners, allowing dogs on all campsites with standard leash requirements. The campground offers large, private spots separated by thick trees, providing ample space for dogs to relax with their owners while maintaining separation from neighboring campers. Most sites accommodate RVs up to 30 feet, with some reviewers noting spots large enough for 34-foot campers with cars. Harrison Lake State Park Campground and W.J. Hayes State Park also welcome pets across their tent, RV, and cabin accommodations. Many sites have lakefront access or wooded separation between campsites, creating natural boundaries beneficial for camping with dogs. Local campgrounds are searchable through The Dyrt's listings.
Numerous hiking trails around Lake Hudson and nearby parks provide excellent dog walking opportunities with lake views. Sites directly on the water offer convenient water access for dogs that enjoy swimming, though pets must be kept under control near wildlife areas. The recreation area's quiet, secluded atmosphere makes it suitable for pets that may become anxious in busier campgrounds. Summer visitors should be prepared with extra water for pets as the single hand pump water source is located near the campground entrance, and many sites are fully exposed to sun during hot months. The stargazing opportunities at Lake Hudson's dark sky preserve create perfect evening conditions for quiet time with pets, with minimal light pollution allowing for exceptionally clear night skies while camping with dogs.

We really enjoyed our stay. The hosts were very welcoming and helpful. Delivered our firewood right to our site. Lots of shade trees, beautiful well groomed trails for walking. Even a dog park, which our Golden Retriever really enjoyed.
I stayed at this place when it was B&B and it is now a KOA. Several new sites were added and the park appears to be much cleaner. The restrooms are nice and the camp personnel are friendly. There is a dog park for walking the dog but with so much driveway I just walk the dog around the park. They have several dog bag stations around the park to make clean up easy. There are 3 playgrounds and boat area on the lake. I believe you can rent boats to fish even though I never have. I will definitely stay here again.
We enjoyed the stay at this campground. They have all of the KOA amenities pool, lazy river, jump pillow, playground and dog park. Entire campground was clean and well maintained. This campground also sits on the shores of Hogback Lake which is an all sports lake. Many things to do in the area Wild Winds Buffalo Preserve, Pokagon State Park(hiking, biking and horseback riding), Amish communities close by, Black Pine Animal Sanctuary, Angola, IN many shopping and dining experiences.
Nice Park Nice park for full timers. Large spots to accommodate big rigs and kids. Full hook ups. Cell service great with Verizon hotspot(22u, 20d, 38ms and AT&T cell(27d, 20u, 27ms). Playgrounds everywhere for the kids. Giant dog park and ponds. Pool was closed. Just needs more grass. Our spot was really patchy and resulted in a lot of mud. Great campground with polite and helpful staff. Don’t pass this one up.

We have been here a few times. Really enjoy the secluded sites and the lake. It’s a small campground but it’s clean and quiet. Most sites don’t have water hookups but they do have electric. There isn’t much to do outside of the campground but there is a nice lake with canoe and kayak rentals. Very pet friendly and even has a dog beach.
Pet friendly. Great camp store. Clean campground. Nice beach. Beautiful!!
Sites and restrooms were alright, think it is ridiculous to pay extra each night for each pet and children, too many other campgrounds in our area that are more updated and reasonably priced.
Lake Hudson Recreation Area sits at an elevation around 1,100 feet in Michigan's rolling farmland terrain. This region experiences hot summers with temperatures often reaching the mid-80s and cold winters with significant snowfall. The area's clay-based soil creates distinct camping conditions that can remain soggy after rain events, especially in spring and fall seasons.
Stargazing at dark sky preserve: Lake Hudson Recreation Area is officially designated as a dark sky preserve, offering exceptional nighttime viewing. "The best part of this campground is the stars at night! This is a dark sky preserve campground and the stars are the show. We stayed here at the end of the perseid meteor showers and saw several of falling meteors," reports Michelle M. at Lake Hudson Recreation Area.
Fishing in secluded waters: The numerous lakes around Hudson provide excellent fishing opportunities with minimal boat traffic. "This small campground (about 40 sites) is well off the beaten path, but still easy to access by road. The lake itself is incredibly quiet without the buzz of people tubing or jet skiing," notes Meghan R. from Lake Hudson Recreation Area.
Kayaking through connecting waterways: Multiple lakes in the region offer paddling routes between water bodies. "Has a boat access, with a beautiful lake. You can go through little canals to get to other parts of the lake," explains Ashley B. from 6 Lakes Campground.
Spacious, private sites: Campers appreciate the generous spacing between campsites in this region. "Each site is separated from the next by young forest, so it lends to a very private and secluded atmosphere," mentions Meghan R. about Lake Hudson Recreation Area.
Easy lake access: Many sites feature direct routes to waterfront. "My site has a path right out to the lake. My 2p tent could easily fit on this lakeside spot," shares Jennie S. from Lake Hudson Recreation Area.
Dog-friendly beaches: Pet owners appreciate dedicated swimming areas for dogs. "There's a nice little mile nature trail through one of those loops. There's a nice dog run that we took advantage of," explains Alex H. from W. J. Hayes State Park Campground.
Limited water facilities: Many campgrounds in the Hudson area have minimal water access points. "You must bring your water unless you want to hand pump it from the only central pump," advises Bob J. at Lake Hudson Recreation Area.
Variable cell service: Connectivity can be limited throughout the region. "For about 50% of the drive I did not have cell phone service (I have VZW)," reports Betsy B. from Lake Hudson Recreation Area.
Rustic facilities: Most campgrounds near Hudson feature basic amenities. "The camping sites come with an electric plug in, a nice fire ring and a picnic table. They are cute sites. The facilities are rustic. The facilities are port a potty type with wooden walls and cement floor. No showers," explains Marg B. at Lake Hudson Recreation Area.
Beach access with amenities: Look for campgrounds with kid-friendly swimming areas. "The Lake is beautiful with a sand beach, no wake boating and grills. However it is rustic so there is goose poo," notes Marg B. from Lake Hudson Recreation Area.
Playgrounds and activities: Several campgrounds offer recreational facilities for children. "They have a lot for the kids here: Pool 3ft-5ft, Air pillow, Large playground (very clean), Half basketball court, Sand Volleyball net," explains Melissa M. from Gateway Park Campground.
Pet-friendly camping options: Multiple facilities welcome dogs throughout their grounds. "Very dog friendly and even has a dog beach," reports Andrew P. from Harrison Lake State Park Campground.
Electric hookup locations: Check electrical access point placement before setting up. "Extension or long electrical cords may be needed, as boxes are at back end and halfway to next site over," advises Cheryl M. from Lake Hudson Recreation Area.
Limited dump station availability: Plan accordingly for waste management. "The campground has no dump station so we had to drive to the next State campground, about a 30 minute drive, to dump the tanks," reports Steven S. from Lake Hudson Recreation Area.
Site sizing considerations: Many campgrounds can accommodate larger RVs despite stated limitations. "LONG RV's 31'+ would fit in a lot of the sites, but sites say up to 30'. We had approx 40-45' space from road to treeline," notes Cheryl M. regarding Loveberry's Funny Farm Campground sizing.
