    SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Several cabin campgrounds within a short drive of Custer, Michigan offer overnight accommodation options with various amenities. Vacation Station RV Resort provides cabin rentals with full hook-up access to electricity, water, and sewer connections, while Poncho's Pond RV Park has "haciendas" for rent near their indoor and outdoor pools. Kibby Creek Campground maintains cabins alongside two pools and a private fishing pond. Most cabin sites include picnic tables, access to restrooms with showers, and fire pits for outdoor cooking and gathering. "Clean, beautiful park," noted one visitor about Poncho's Pond.

Rustic and deluxe cabins are both available, depending on the location. Ludington East KOA offers cabin accommodations with proximity to the Pere Marquette River for fishing opportunities. Mason County Campground provides cabin rentals within a single-loop layout that families appreciate for its quiet atmosphere. Reservations are essential, particularly during summer months when availability becomes limited. According to one visitor, the Kibby Creek cabins were "a solid 10/10 one stop shop" with convenient amenities and clean facilities. Most properties permit pets in designated cabins with additional fees or restrictions.

Most cabins include beds but require visitors to bring their own linens, towels, and toiletries. Cooking facilities vary considerably between properties, from basic fire rings to more equipped kitchenettes. On-site camp stores at locations like Kibby Creek Campground and Poncho's Pond RV Park sell essential items, firewood, and ice. Some resorts offer delivery service for supplies directly to the cabin site through mobile apps. Whispering Surf Campground at Bass Lake, Hill & Hollow Campground, and Timber Surf Campground all operate seasonally, typically from May through October, making advance reservations necessary for peak summer weekends.

      Muskegon KOA

      Love this KOA!

Sadly, we just left the KOA Muskegon campground this morning after a relaxing and peaceful three-day stay. While travelling home, plans are already being made for another camping vacay at this KOA. The staff were all friendly and helpful, creating a family-like atmosphere. The cabins were clean, updated, and the beds were quite comfortable. Our deluxe cabin bathroom and kitchenette were also stocked with amenities, making the stay comfortable and effortless. Outside our temporary home was our own gas grill, patio table with seating, fire ring, and Adirondack chairs. How nice it was for meals on the deck and campfires in the evenings! Every morning we looked forward to the 3/4 mile hiking trail around the lake... which was gorgeous. Although, we personally don't fish, we enjoyed watching other guests fishing from the shore and various docks regularly. There is also a fun area of the campground that includes playground equipment, basketball, volleyball, a jumping pad that looks like a blast, and they were setting up some interesting looking mining activity. We did spend time on their community patio overlooking a fabulous greenspace, fire pit, swim beach, and the lake. I could've spent all day on the patio with the relaxing patio lights, flowering planters, and comfortable Adirondack chairs. The camp store is again clean, updated, and well-stocked, but I was also impressed that the prices were reasonable, which is not always the case in these type of"convenience" situations. Overall, cherished camping memories were made this past weekend, and we are anxious to return in the near future for more! Thank you KOA Muskegon staff!

Cedar Campground — Ludington State Park

      Winter cabin and snowshoeing/hiking

This gem of a state park is phenomenal. Camped here in cabins three times over two winters. Cabins with bunks (will sleep 5 total), mini fridge, electricity and heat. Outside pit toilet. Hiking trails are some of the best. Beautiful lighthouse, dunes, beach, inland lake (Hamlin Lake), river and Lake Michigan. Very quiet and snow-covered in winter. Gets very busy in summer. So many activities for all ages. Kayak rentals in summer. Great fishing. Guided snowshoe tours and lamp light snowshoe hikes in winter are awesome. Camp store. Several playgrounds. Beautiful new beach house.

Lake Michigan Campground — Muskegon State Park

Ranger Review: Snapbuds at Muskegon State Park Lake Michigan Campground

      Campground Review

Lake Michigan Campground in Muskegon State Park was a great place to pull in for the night. We had ice cream for supper at the adjacent ice cream shop (where they advertised a free cone with your firewood purchase). We pulled in and settled into our cabin with enough time to enjoy sunset over Lake Michigan from the stairs and overlooks along the beach. The campground is well kept and has a nice shady canopy. The sites are fairly large, but there are no shrubs or structures to provide privacy from neighbors. We reserved a camping cabin and found it clean and functional with power, 4 beds (bunks), mini fridge and microwave. The showers were good sized with plenty of hot water, but being beach style, there was a lot of bug access. Expect to shower with some insects. I was a frustrated birder - I could hear the birds but couldn’t pick them out visually since they were all up so high with no low cover. All in all I would say this is a great campground for beach access, better in the cabins or an RV than in a tent since there isn’t much privacy.

      Ranger Review:

As a Ranger for The Dyrt, I get products to review occasionally. On this trip I had a chance to try out Snapbuds, an earbud detangling system. We received the snapbuds before we left Colorado and used the enclosed guide to get them set up on my earbuds - it was a snap! The instructions say they can’t be repositioned once in place, so we were cautious about setting them up right the first time. I don’t use my earbuds often on road trips since I’m the only driver and I like to listen for birds on a walk - but after a few long days in the car with my kids choosing the playlists, this mamma was super excited to whip my earbuds out! I had them shoved in the back of my purse where we’d been rummaging around for various things over the course of the trip, so they had every opportunity to be a tangled mess - but they came out in a neat little wad and unraveled easily to take me away from the teens fighting over beds. I was pleased with how neat they stayed. My one word of caution is that the magnets really like to stick together, and if you create slack while wearing your earbuds (by bending to pick up a perfect rock or acorn, for instance) they have a tendency to find one another and shorten your cord, potentially dislodging your earbud when you straighten back up.

Really nice little campground. Not fancy, but clean and well kept. Pool and petting zoo for the kids. Small store with ice, few necessities and ice cream. Pond in the back on the small river for fishing. Quite a few seasonal campers. Anywhere from rustic to full hook up. Pet friendly. All gravel/dirt/grass sites. Most have trees. Fire pits quite small. Bathrooms very nice and updated.

Hill & Hollow Campground & RV Park

      Location is perfect!

Campsite is located 2 miles from downtown Pentwater, adorable small town on the water. Mears state park is 2 miles from the campground as well, Lake Michigan beaches. The playground on the beach is perfect for younger kids. There is a pavilion that serves hot food and ice cream ( hot food ends at 5pm/ ice cream till sunset.) Our kids loved walking in town and heading to the beach.

With that said, there is plenty to do at the campground . Outdoor pool, AJs (putt- putt golf, arcade, playground, go-karts) extra fee for AJs but reasonable priced, basketball court, volleyball court, small baseball diamond, tennis table, general store, shower house by pool ( very clean), private bonfire pits ( most campsites).

Seasonal’s were very friendly and helpful with local things to do. RV camp, Tent camp, or tent cabin.

Dump station available, firewood for sale, ice for sale, general store has several camping items, 15 minutes away is meijer in ludington. 2 minutes away gas station 2 minutes to Lake Michigan beaches 2 minutes to Pentwater downtown shopping

      Ed H. Henning Park

Nice campground, very convenient for river trips.

We stay here at least once a year and do an annual river trip with a bunch friends. It's a nice campground with a small park, pond, full bathrooms, group sites, and even a couple small cabins. It's great for river trips since we go upstream and can float all the way into camp and no worry about driving. We make a run the next morning for coffee and to pick up the vehicles left at the launch.

    Guide to Custer

Cabins near Custer, Michigan offer woodland retreats throughout the year with various levels of amenities. Located in Mason County along Lake Michigan's eastern shore, the area sits at approximately 650 feet elevation and experiences four distinct seasons. Winter accommodations remain limited as most seasonal cabin rentals operate from April through October when temperatures range from 50-85°F.

    What to do

Hiking trails: Access miles of trails at Ludington State Park where visitors explore diverse ecosystems. "Miles and miles of hiking trails, dunes, and beaches. We stayed for 9 days and still hadn't done all of the exploring we wanted to do," notes Ellie C.

Water activities: Bring kayaks or canoes to Whispering Surf Campground at Bass Lake for dual-lake access. "We enjoyed renting kayaks from the campground and paddling along bass lake," shares Hailey C., adding that the campground offers "a private beach on Bass Lake--great fishing, sandy bottom, kayak and canoe rentals--plus 2 Lake Michigan beaches within walking distance."

Winter recreation: Some cabins remain available during colder months at Ludington State Park. "Winter camped in Pines Mini Cabin. Bunk beds with one a double- sleeps 5 total. Heat, electricity, mini fridge, microwave, table and 4 chairs," reports Kathie M., who enjoyed "awesome trails for hiking, cross country skiing, and snowshoeing."

    What campers like

Dual water access: Cabin sites at Whispering Surf Campground provide access to both Bass Lake and Lake Michigan. Greg S. describes, "You can paddle through Bass Lake and into the river straight down to the dam at the big lake, where you are met with beautiful dunes and a little swimming hole."

Exceptional cleanliness: Many cabin campers highlight the maintenance standards at Kibby Creek Campground. "The bathrooms are modern, updated, and so clean! There are two sets of bathrooms-one attached to the general store, which has 2 bathroom stalls and one small shower. The other bathroom further into the campground is larger," notes Amanda L.

Recreational amenities: On-site activities provide entertainment without leaving the campground. "There are two basketball courts (half courts), a volleyball court, shuffle board, mini golf, a pool, a train ride for kids, a private fishing pond, playgrounds, sand boxes, and various other planned activities," according to a Kibby Creek visitor.

    What you should know

Shower facilities: Different campgrounds have varying shower policies. At Mason County Campground, "showers are .25 per 7 minutes," according to Heather N., while other facilities include shower costs in cabin rental fees.

Seasonal availability: Most cabins operate within limited windows. Hill & Hollow Campground runs "May 1 to Oct 31," while Vacation Station RV Resort operates "April 15 to October 31," making advance reservations essential for summer stays.

Beach access changes: Water levels affect beach availability near some cabins. At Orchard Beach State Park, "due to high waters the past few years there is no beach," reports Joie V., though it "is still a family favorite and perfect if you want to go into Manistee."

    Tips for camping with families

Look for dedicated play areas: Hill & Hollow Campground offers multiple child-friendly facilities. "There is plenty to do at the campground. Outdoor pool, AJs (putt-putt golf, arcade, playground, go-karts) extra fee for AJs but reasonable priced, basketball court, volleyball court, small baseball diamond," shares Melissa M.

Choose single-loop layouts: Some cabin areas provide safer environments for children. "The campground is in a single loop, perfect for bike riding. We've never once had an issue with people getting rowdy or experienced a 'party crowd,'" explains Bridgette W. about Mason County Campground.

Consider proximity to medical facilities: Cabins closer to Ludington provide faster access to healthcare. Vacation Station sits approximately 15 minutes from Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital, while more remote cabins may require 30+ minute drives for emergency care.

    Tips from RVers

Concrete pads at premium sites: Vacation Station RV Resort offers the most stable surfaces for cabin and RV camping. "All sites are level concrete slabs and full service. Grass is trimmed around the pads, they have sprinklers that water the grass at night," notes Bob D.

Download campground apps: Some locations offer digital services for convenience. At Kibby Creek, "If you download the campersAPP, you can even have things from the store or wood delivered to your site! It was incredible and convenient," explains Amanda L.

Check site dimensions carefully: Space constraints exist at some cabin campgrounds. At Cartier Park Campground, "it was terrible. Loud traffic, very close and down hill. It was a bit dangerous for kids running around," warns one visitor about roadside cabin sites.
