Bathrooms were dated and we arrived Monday after Labor Day so I can't judge them. They had a FULL HOUSE on Labor Day per the front gate. I was very impressed there was no garbage at campsites and picked up very well.

GREAT biking trails you can catch on premise and bike over to Kensington and to the charming town of Milford

      Wayne County Fairgrounds RV Park

      Typical Fairgrounds Campground

This is a typical fairground campground with open grassy areas for campsites surrounded by barns and tracks. The fairgrounds is located just off I-94 which makes for easy entrance and exit to the campground, but, means there is lots of road noise. Close by are plenty of stores, restaurants, gas stations, etc. In fact, there is a gap in the fence that runs around the fairgrounds allowing you to walk to a Walmart, McDonalds, Dunkin Donuts, and more.

We arrived without a reservation and the women in the office was very helpful providing a map with all available sites during our stay and letting us choose which one we wanted. One of the first things you notice is that a number of people are here long-term so we went to the back area hoping it would be quieter and less crowded. A number of the campsites are “buddy” sites meaning your patio opens to your neighbors so be careful which one you pick. This is pretty undesirable when the neighbor is a total stranger so we chose a site where we didn’t have anyone next to us.

They offer 50 amp full hook-up sites, 50 amp/water, and 30 amp/water sites with pull-thru and back-in options. There is a dump station located in the middle of the park which is easy to get to. The roads are wide and a lack of trees makes this campground accessible for any size RV. The sites are level but some lack grassy making the patio pretty dusty or muddy. Unfortunately, where we were was pretty muddy just after a light rain. This campground works best for RV’s and not tents. For tenters there is a designated section that is set in a corner of the park with large trees for shade but not much privacy between you and others. A water spigot is in the tent area and there was one picnic table. The camp office sells firewood but we only saw two fire pits in the whole park. Be aware that noise from the interstate and nearby train tracks may make for a restless night. Bathrooms are centrally located in the campground and were old and tired but relatively clean. On-site laundry is available.

Apparently, management is having some issues with campers not obeying some of the rules. One of the sad things about this campground is that campers have to be reminded to clean up after their dogs. Apparently, it is such an issue that we got a letter stating that if you don’t pick up your dogs poop you would be asked to leave. How sad is that? There is free WiFi which worked pretty well. Upon checking in, we had to sign a piece of paper stating that we would not download copyrighted material or stream movies or we would be asked to leave.

My favorite aspect of this campground is that they had a community garden that you were welcome to pick from. We got tomatoes, Swiss chard, peppers, broccoli, and more. Overall, this campground was fine for the few nights we were here and close to the attractions we wanted to visit. We never felt unsafe even though it was close to major cities. We chose this campground because we wanted to go to Ann Arbor and Dearborn and it was a very convenient location.

      Pros:

      ·        Good location if you want to visit Ann Arbor and Dearborn

      ·        Close to interstate for easy access

      ·        Long, level sites that will fit any RV

      ·        Community garden you can pick from vegetables

      ·        Stores and restaurants are nearby (some within walking distance)

      Cons:

      ·        Lots of road noise from I-94

      ·        No trees for shade or privacy

      ·        Would not recommend for tent camping

      ·        Many campers are long-term

      ·        “Buddy” campsites with patios facing each other

Bishop Lake Campground — Brighton Recreation Area

      Great for family fun!

Great campground. Bathhouse is always clean, staff is always smiling! Harvest festival during the month of October is our family’s favorite tradition! Site decorating contest, pumpkin carving competition, family dance party, haunted trail, trick-or-treating and so much more! Lots of trails to hike, all camping season long. Great fire pits and very spacious sites. Host site often has scavenger hunts and bird watching hikes for the kids.

      Camp Dearborn

      Nothing to sleep on

Wish I had seen a post regarding the mattresses before we went this past weekend. I would have canceled My daughter, her husband and two kids 4 and 2 arrived to the resort cabin after a drive from Ohio to find they would be sleeping on plywood. A dirty cabin with a concrete floor and nothing to sleep on. Needless to say they went to a hotel. When talking to the staff they played a great game of pass the buck and we have still not received a call from Scott which was supposedly who the buck stopped with. They were rude and insinuated we were lying about the cleanliness but there was no way to lie about nothing to sleep on. An employee showed us where they had marked it on a brochure but there was no mention about the mattresses being removed on the paperwork I signed. I didn’t realize it was necessary to look at every page of the website. They took the time to say no pets on the contract. You’d think they’d let you know there was no place to sleep. I will be posting a poor review everywhere I can find a place to put it and disputing the charges for the misrepresented unused cabin on my credit card.

      One of our Favorites

We’ve been in their tent/cabins and our own RV. Great park, clean, nice swimming lakes, the teens love the canteen. Tough to get in but we love it.

      Sauder Village Campground

      Fun with Kids

This was a great campground. VERY clean, nice bathrooms with showers. Ice and Wood easily available. We stayed with four kiddos in a tent spot across from a cool plash pad, a little lake to fish in and close to running water. Only reason this campground doesn’t get five stars is because of noisy trucks/highway noise, and a freight train which drives often at night. There is also a farm near the tenting spots with a rooster. Not the best place for sleeping, but would totally go back!

site 322, 48 degrees and light drizzle at setup. Site is level, but drops down in the mud and grass, pad is barely wide enough to set up table without being on an angle.

Bathroom is separate from showers, older but decent. A nice grassy area close to site 322 and 324. Shade and sun Fire pit sits in low area, do expect puddles if raining. Firewood was$8, dry, burned well.

      One of the Best

      10-2-24 thru 10-7-24 Site 370 C

Cellular, TMOBILE 5G, 3 bars. 21’ Apex Nano w truck. Gravel pad, fire pit and grass is about 12” lower than pad. Keep in mind if expecting rain.

Showers are old, warm with 2 hooks, 2 toilets and 2 urnials.

Fire pit needs to be reset in the ground, it sit too high. Awesome trails to hike. Maintenance was awesome changing out a breaker on the box.

8-27-22, update on site 348 and 350. These are pull through sites on the edge of the road. 350 is longer and had a 5th Wheel on it. We put our 19’ Nano on 348. Full sun during the day, 348 is uneven once you walk off of the pad. This site could use some TLC and more gravel for parking.

10-1-16, nice state park with hiking trails. Lot 322 was partially sun and shade. Restroom and shower(open stall, no privacy) was outdated but functional. 2-5-22 hiked 4 miles on the snow packed trails. Cold and awesome powder conditions.

    Guide to Clarklake

Waterloo Recreation Area offers several yurt camping accommodations within driving distance of Clarklake, Michigan. The recreation area spans 20,000 acres with varied terrain including mature woodlands, small lakes, and wetland areas. Winter temperatures average 20-30°F while summer months typically range from 70-85°F, creating distinct seasonal camping experiences at both rustic and modern campgrounds throughout the region.

    What to do

Paddle the interconnected lakes: Green Lake at Waterloo Recreation Area provides multiple paddling opportunities. "I loved this quiet little campground! I stayed at #6 and had a beautiful view of the lake. There is muddy lake access on that site and I paddled from there in my kayak," reports Melissa B.

Mountain bike the local trails: Trail access points connect directly to many campsites for easy riding. "This was a campground that we stayed at on our way to the northern part of the state. This for me, was a place that I would like to come back to for a longer stay," notes Kevin C. at Waterloo Sugarloaf Modern, highlighting the trail network that appeals to bikers.

Winter exploration: Blind Lake Rustic Campground in Pinckney Recreation Area stays open year-round. "The park is open all year, making the Blind Lake campground a popular stop for hikers in the winter," explains Mike B., who appreciated the off-season accessibility.

Horseback riding opportunities: Equestrian facilities operate near several campgrounds. "As an added plus a horse barn (Heavenly Horse Stables) right on property offering riding lessons, trail rides and meet and greets with their horses and other barn animals, my daughter wanted to move here," shares Ashley S. about Hell Creek Ranch.

    What campers like

Spacious rustic sites: Many prefer the larger, more natural settings at certain campgrounds. "The sites are generously sized, with room to stretch out. There isn't much privacy between sites, with a few exceptions, but this campsite is so quiet and well-behaved that it didn't end up mattering much," notes Alaine S. about Green Lake Rustic Campground.

Clean facilities: Bishop Lake Campground maintains high standards for its amenities. "The campground is nice with good access to bikes, trails, water, beach. The bathrooms are clean and the showers were warm," says Mike B.

Access to water recreation: Many sites offer direct lake access or nearby beaches. "Nice flat campsites near the beach area. It has a very nice play area for the children and clean bathrooms. The boat launch was near our camp site which was nice not having to leave the campground," explains Debra B.

Winter yurt options: Year-round yurt camping near Clarklake provides comfortable off-season accommodations. "Had the pleasure of visiting first weekend in February, on the coldest weekend of the year! Nice little cabin set in about 800' from where you park. It has a table, wood stove, and 4 sets of bunks in a back room," Mike S. describes his winter experience at Waterloo.

    What you should know

Reservation requirements: Most popular sites fill quickly, especially on weekends. "I would recommend getting a reservation before showing up. They have laminated signs posted on the campsites to let you know which ones are taken," advises Rob at Green Lake, adding that "most weekends are booked solid."

Varying levels of privacy: Hell Creek Ranch Campground and other sites have different configurations. "The location is terrific, beside a terrific state recreation area. That said, as a camper, it was almost impossible to see anything natural around us since we surrounded by RVs and pop-ups," reports Chad B.

Noise considerations: Some campgrounds have road noise to consider. "The freeway is on the other side of the lake, but it didn't bother us. At night it was like white noise," explains Rebekah J. about Green Lake Rustic.

Water quality varies: Swimming conditions differ between locations. "We checked out half moon lake, wasn't really impressed, was told sugarloaf but its only for sugarloaf campers. We were then directed to Portage lake beach, which was a larger beach but it was really silty," notes Rebekah J.

    Tips for camping with families

Choose sites with play areas: Bruin Lake Campground provides family-friendly amenities. "Nice little campground. Bathroom facilities could use some updating. Rangers are great. Nice lake to kayak in," shares DeEtta M. about this Pinckney Recreation Area campground.

Consider off-peak timing: Less crowded conditions improve the experience with children. "Spent 4 nights and 5 days camping with my husband and 2 kids. We had fun and the kids had a blast. They rode bikes around the loop and loved swimming and the playground," says Kim S.

Look for yurt camping options with electricity: Several Clarklake-area yurts offer powered accommodations. "We rented a yurt as a local weekend escape. Our kids loved the yurt. It was nice with a little mini fridge and 4 double beds," explains Sherrie W. about her family's experience at Harrison Lake.

Check for nearby activities: Recreational options vary widely between locations. "What started as a little get away turned into not wanting to leave! A swimming pool and playground with basketball court to keep my kids entertained and clean facilities convinced me I had made the right choice," writes Ashley S.

    Tips from RVers

Site selection matters: Holiday RV Campground offers various RV accommodations. "Nice park for full timers. Large spots to accommodate big rigs and kids. Full hook ups. Cell service great with Verizon hotspot (22u, 20d, 38ms) and AT&T cell (27d, 20u, 27ms)," reports Sean N.

Check hookup specifications: Electric capacity varies between campgrounds. "Spacious site. Well maintained park. Clean, hot shower in north Campground. Lake is good for fishing, marginal for swimming," mentions Sue B.

Consider RV size limitations: Not all sites accommodate larger vehicles. "Nice sites have some shade to stay out of the sun. The beach is pretty good for swimming," notes Mike B., though many reviewers mention space limitations for larger RVs at some campgrounds.

Seasonal considerations for RVers: Weather impacts vary by season. "Camped here in Sept. A bit chilly at night but absolutely gorgeous area!" reports Jennifer B. about Hell Creek Ranch, highlighting the different experience RVers have during shoulder seasons.
