Eaton County Fairgrounds campground offers spacious, wooded sites for pet owners, with full hookups available for $20 nightly. Pets are welcome at most campgrounds in the Charlotte area, including Cottonwood Campground in Lansing and Travel Trailer Club of the Midwest, both providing electric hookups and water for campers with animals. Fort Custer Recreation Area and Camp Turkeyville RV Resort maintain pet-friendly policies across their tent sites, RV spots, and cabin accommodations. Leashed pets must be supervised at all times, with most parks providing waste stations and designated pet areas. Rockeys Campground stands out with its chain of five lakes offering excellent fishing opportunities while maintaining pet-friendly campsites.

Forested trails surrounding Interstate Lake State Game Area provide limited primitive camping opportunities where pets can explore, though overnight stays between May 15 and September 10 are prohibited by state game area rules. Sleepy Hollow State Park Campground offers year-round access with pet-friendly sites featuring picnic tables, fire rings, and drinking water. Campers note the spacious primitive sites at Cottonwood Campground accommodate hammock camping with enough trees for multiple setups, though raccoons have been known to investigate improperly stored food. Local wildlife encounters require keeping pets leashed and supervised, particularly in rustic camping areas. Most campgrounds maintain quiet hours after 10pm when barking must be controlled, and the nearest veterinary services are available in Charlotte and Lansing for emergencies.

Hidden Ridge RV Resort, A Sun RV Resort

      Glamping at its finest

I grew up coming here and they had expanded a lot on it in the last few years. You will never be bored and it is a true resort feeling, you will forget your camping! They have themed weekends filled with activities for both adults and children and have a pool, pizza and ice cream, jumping pillow, clubhouse, fishing, playground, dog park, and so much more!

      Holiday RV Campground

      Large RV Park

Nice Park Nice park for full timers. Large spots to accommodate big rigs and kids. Full hook ups. Cell service great with Verizon hotspot(22u, 20d, 38ms and AT&T cell(27d, 20u, 27ms). Playgrounds everywhere for the kids. Giant dog park and ponds. Pool was closed. Just needs more grass. Our spot was really patchy and resulted in a lot of mud. Great campground with polite and helpful staff. Don’t pass this one up.

      Cold Brook County Park

      Nice little county park!

29 campsites pretty close together with old growth trees interspersed around the campground. Fishing pier and boating, playground area, and beach. No longer has primitive camping. Some hiking trails...short. is next to a busy road, so traffic all night. Staff was great! Showers and bathrooms cleaned multiple times a day. Pet friendly. Would stay here again!

      Snow Lake Kampground

      Very organized but busy campground

They were very organized at this campground. Every weekend they have a theme. We stayed when they had the country western weekend. They had all kinds of stuff going on for kids. Pony rides, wagon rides, petting zoo, games and activities. They also had a country music concert in the park one evening. The pool was very nice, but we found at times it was extremely busy. It would of been nice if they had a swimming area on the lake but they didn’t. This is a Christian campground so they are very strict on alcohol consumption. On your site only, but not allowed anywhere else in the park. Overall we had an enjoyable stay.

The manager will stop by to collect your $20. Confidently located a mile outside of Charlotte, with all the conviences of restraunts, walmart, Meijer etc.

      Camp Turkeyville RV Resort

Angela in the front office hates people!

This campground would be a 5 star campground. However;as always there’s that one person that makes it a 3 or2. She must be the owners daughter or Neice. I expressed to her that her behavior and curse words along with her statements were not appreciated and she said “ write a review so I can read it and laugh at it” Very trashy lady who made you feel like your just a burden on her.

Besides that. Place had pool, kids pad. Laundry, family showers, individual showers” very clean and nice. Mini Petting farm, train ride and an entire little small village dedicated to entertainment of camping. This is a nice place but beware of the village idiot. She is very unbecoming and impolite by all means.

    Guide to Charlotte

Charlotte, Michigan offers camping opportunities within a 20-mile radius of the city center. Most campgrounds remain open from May through October with seasonal limitations at the state game areas. Summer temperatures typically range from 60-85°F with cooler nights, while spring and fall camping requires preparation for temperature fluctuations and occasional rainfall.

    What to do

Fishing access points: Interstate Lake State Game Area features a large lake with parking areas for anglers. Brett B. notes, "No campsites here, but there is a large parking area, a nice lake, and some trails around the area. I hung up a hammock for awhile, then slept in my car without issue."

Trails for various activities: Fort Custer Recreation Area offers extensive multi-use paths. A camper explains, "Several no wake lakes for kayaking, canoeing and fishing. One lake with swimming beach. Lots of trails for hiking, horses and mountain bikes." Another visitor adds, "We loved our site (so don't book this one) as it's close to the trails for riding."

Swimming opportunities: Campers at Sleepy Hollow State Park Campground mention beach access, though with a caveat: "The path led to another path that led to a parking lot for the beach. After crossing the parking lot we still had to cross a large yard/park that finally opened onto the beach on this small lake."

    What campers like

Spacious sites with natural boundaries: Eaton County Fairgrounds offers well-spaced campsites. A guest writes, "My husband and I had a wonderful experience the website was well informed; pull in and pick your own site and the site manager will come by and collect your money for night stayed."

Waterfront access: Rockeys Campground sits on multiple connected lakes. A reviewer shares, "Rockey's is on a chain of 5 lakes and has some of the best fishing! Rob and Vicki do so much for the kid campers too!"

Shaded camping areas: Deep Lake Rustic Campground provides tree cover for most sites. A camper notes, "Most sites offer complete shade. Just wish there was access to a site map while making reservations." Another mentions, "There is much more space at each campsite and lots of old growth trees."

    What you should know

Reservation systems vary: Some locations like Eaton County Fairgrounds operate with on-site payment. A visitor explains, "Very peaceful when there are no ongoing events. Large bath house with Showers. No office in park, so find a space and park. The manager will stop by to collect your $20."

Primitive camping restrictions: State game areas have specific rules. For Interstate Lake, one camper cautions, "Per michigan laws; STATE LAND RULE – GAME AREAS – EXCERPT(S) 926 On state game or wildlife areas it is unlawful to: • Camp between May 15 and September 10, except in areas specifically designated for camping."

Bathroom facilities: Lansing Cottonwood Campground maintains clean facilities. A reviewer mentions, "The campground is very clean and well ran. There is a nice pool, little country store, and clean restrooms with showers."

    Tips for camping with families

Dog friendly campgrounds near Charlotte: Most local campgrounds accommodate pets with proper supervision. Camp Turkeyville maintains a pet-friendly policy while offering family activities. A visitor notes it's "Very laid back. Family oriented. Plenty of things for the kids to do."

Wildlife awareness: Be prepared for encounters at Lansing Cottonwood Campground. One camper reports, "The second night, it had rained pretty much all day. Spiders came out at alarming numbers, mostly daddy long legs and the night before, raccoons had gotten into our food storage bins by undoing the side latches on them."

Activity options: Camp Turkeyville RV Resort includes recreation for children. A camper mentions, "Spacious sites. Concrete patio at each site. Daily trash pickup at campsite. Very quiet and family friendly."

    Tips from RVers

Electric hookup considerations: At Sleepy Hollow State Park, electrical access can be challenging. A visitor cautions, "Most electrical posts are designed to accommodate at least 2 adjoining lots, and as many as 4. This in itself is not a concern until you realize the posts are way too far away to reach without an extension."

Campsite selection: Travel Trailer Club of the Midwest offers basic amenities for RVers. A camper observes, "This is a secluded campground near Bellevue. Not a lot of trees or space between campsites. There is electric and water hookup available."

Seasonal considerations: Many Charlotte area campgrounds operate with seasonal limitations. Eaton County Fairgrounds operates from May 1 to October 1, while Lansing Cottonwood Campground stays open through October 29, making planning essential for late-season trips.
