Great camp ground , large sites right on the lake
Stayed here Labor Day weekend. It was my first time staying at a State Forest campground; it has the basics like a hand pump for water, pit toilets and a dumpster. Site 12 had a spot for my hammock. Watch out for poison ivy. The only downside is that other campers don't know how to behave at night. They think karaoke and screaming at their domestic partner at 1:42 am is acceptable.
Waterfront campsite are very nice... Some are a bit small but overall very comfortable... Awesome friendly people run the place!

Quiet campground with feeling of privacy due to sites being wooded and spread out. Access to lake and to rustic pit toilets close by. Good potable water. Easy self check in.
I enjoyed this campsite. Maybe it was because of it being a Sunday night, but it didn’t feel very crowded and was fairly quiet. It’s close to the water (just a short walk over the dunes so you can’t actually see the lake from your site.) I had electric and the bathrooms had showers, though they definitely could use an update. The only thing that could have made this place better was if they allowed dogs on the beach! I was traveling alone and would have loved to have walked the beach with my pup.

Cheboygan State Park is a must do for all campers! This is a hidden gem. Many of the campsites walk out to Lake Huron and there’s a perfect breeze from the water to the campsite to keep all of the bugs away. Very peaceful and the campsites are very private and quiet. Happily surprised and will be back! Very dog friendly, great hiking trails, and the beach is very sandy!
Great location, right on the lake and awesome views. Also very convenient to North country Trail to ride or run up and down the Lakeshore on a paved path! Very close to town to walk in and see the sites. Stayed by the water treatment plant and I wouldn’t recommend the West End as you could smell the treatments. Bathrooms were clean and convenient location. Spaces were extremely close together! Many people stayed for the whole summer. It seemed like.
Less than half full. Good non motorized boat launch. Nice forest, most sites well screened. 4 sites with great lake view, on little lake. kayaked around lake. No real navigable access to the larger Bevoort Lake or Lake Michigan. Quiet, no highway noise.
Only 60 to 75 percent full midweek in July. Most sites are first come first served. Most sites are separated by natural forest. Beautiful dunes and beach. Traffic noise from highway is an issue.

We were in Site# 98. We had Full hook- up with a gravel pull-through.
We travel towing a 14 foot trailer and were able to fit both in our pull through site along with my jeep. The site was easy to level.
Our site was not shaded with limited trees (many were shaded though). This was a smaller lot with our neighbors fairly close.
This lot (a premium lot) comes with a concrete patio with a round table with four chairs, two Adirondack chairs and a fire pit and a charcoal box grill.
It is an easy access to the campground from highway -(approximately 1 mile from highway).
There is free WiFi. They offer Cable TV and there are many channels.
There is not a community outdoor kitchen or community fire pit.
They sell wood for $7 a bundle.
They pickup your garbage at your site daily.
You are allowed to ride personal golf carts. They also allow you to rent regular bicycles and e-bikes. They do not provide golf cart rentals. There is really not a need to have a Golf cart because it is a smaller campground.
They do have a Swimming pool. There is a Playground. They also offer Gaga ball,horseshoe, and corn hole. There is a Reading lending library and board games to borrow.
They have a great general store. There is an electric car charging station. They sell propane.
There is not a snack bar/restaurant on site.
The streets are gravel so not great for riding bikes.
There are great places to ride bikes outside of campground. From the campground, there is a nature trail that you can take your bike that leads you to the. North Western State Trail.
They have cabins for rent and tent areas.
They have one shower house. The shower house has individual showers. Toilets with sinks are in a shared bathroom. These are kept very clean.
There is a laundry facility. It is a cash only facility. There are approximately 5 washers and 5 dryers. It is approximately $2.50 to wash and $1.50 to dry a load.
They have a fenced in dog park.
Bugs (mosquitoes/flies)did not seem to be an issue.
There were trails to hike off of the campground.
Some fun things to do outside of the campground are go to the beach (1 mile away); visit Mackinac Island (both major ferries will transport you for free - this KOA provides you information for Shepler’s Ferry). Both ferries offer packages that include horse drawn carriage rides, Fort Mackinac admission, Island Hotel Admission, Butterfly House admission, Mystery Town admission, and Parking options). I recently had the pleasure of staying at this wonderful campground next to Lake Huron, and I couldn’t be more impressed. The location is absolutely stunning, with beautiful lake views and easy beach access that made our stay truly memorable. The rates were very reasonable, providing great value for the exceptional amenities offered.
One of the highlights of our visit was the recreation and game area, which kept the whole family entertained. The facilities were well-maintained and offered a variety of activities for everyone to enjoy.
What truly set this campground apart, though, was the staff. They were incredibly friendly and helpful throughout our stay. I was particularly touched by their kindness and attentiveness when my youngest daughter fell ill. They went above and beyond to ensure she was comfortable and that we had everything we needed.
Overall, I highly recommend this campground to anyone looking for a beautiful, affordable, and family-friendly place to stay by Lake Huron. We had a fantastic time and will definitely be returning!
I love this state park. It is located right on beautiful lake charlevoix. The campground doesn't have any road noise. The beach is long and sandy and there are lots of hiking and biking trails.

For those of you who are from the area or who come back year after year to enjoy the feeling of family, you will not get it when you return this year. You will notice the difference between big cooperate and family run who actually care about your camping experience. I drove through the campground the other day. You will not longer be aloud to use the dock to fish off of, the lawn behind the bathrooms where you sat and watched the beautiful sunsets is no longer mowed and you will not find kids playing with the games that were provided for your use. Canoe, kayak and paddleboard rentals are gone. No wood to purchase for your fun around the campfire and no ice for your coolers.
The sites are not cleaned like they were, you will find cig butts and other trash on the ground and they will not be raked and waiting for your arrival. Tall grass grows where it was previously trimmed neatly. We took pride in making that campground feel like home so that you could make many memories and come back year after year. The Forest Service had an axe to grind and wanted a cheap easy fix. You get what you pay for. Over 10 years former host.
This is a great campground South of Gaylord on Otsego Lake. I believe all sites have electric. The park is beautiful with a many sites having lake views. The playground is the classic old playground with swings and slides and some big tires to climb on. The water was mostly sand with some rocks. The campground has 4 cabins to rent right on the lake.
This hidden gem has large private sites..many with direct lake access. There is a beach/swim area as well as a small trail from the beach to the boat launch. Good fishing and clean outhouses too!
Absolutely beautiful campground! Stayed there for a week and loved every minute of it. Very peaceful, big, and a beautiful lake view. Will be making this campground a stop every year now.
We stayed here at the end of October. The campground was pretty empty. There are camp sites along Black Lake, which is the 7th largest lake in Michigan. The lake side campsites are very close together but you are right by the water's edge. There is a playground area with swings, sand pit and jungle bars. There is also a boat launch and small beach.
Stayed here in early June and had the pleasure of having the whole campground to ourselves. Sites are close to one another and has vaulted toilets. This is a beautiful campground with access to the water via boat launch but not easy access from a few sites. Most sites are wooded and provide great shade and wind protection. Can be quite buggy. We kayaked and enjoyed beautiful sunrises and sunsets to escape the bugs. I did come back later in the season, early August, and sites were packed with multiple tents per site, and kids were riding their bikes around the loop all evening. I like to camp more secluded and this was just too busy and loud for my liking. I ended up leaving and staying at hog island state forest campground that trip.
They gave us a bogus charge of 50$ several days after we left, for smoking in a cabin. Myself, my wife and our 4 year old son do not smoke. Never have never will. The bogus charge is being disputed but that’s not the point. Warning to others to find somewhere else to camp, at least if you’re renting a cabin. What a scam operation.
well kept and quiet campground. the owner, Clem was super friendly and accommodating. campground seems a little desolate from the outside but if you want a good nights sleep, this is the place. :) right on the main rip to the city and excellent for stargazing because it’s so open.
The campsites weren't particularly scenic, but relatively private. We ended up sleeping in the car because the ground was so wet due to rain.
There is a fabulous beach with a big swimming area. Also large mowed grassy areas between the beach and the campground. When the campground is full, you are quite close to your neighbors in typical state campground style. It was well maintained with multiple toilet-shower houses.
Was simple, easy, and clean! Perfect sight for out quick trip.
After one night, we were able to switch from a crowded site to a Lake front one, and it was beautiful
This was nice place with great facilities. It was clean throughout, great responsive staff. Lots of activités for the kids and a shuttle to the ferry.
