What to do
Hiking trails and waterfalls: Little Bennett Campground provides access to a network of well-maintained trails. "There is a very nice network of trails, most if not all were leashed dog friendly," notes one visitor at Little Bennett Campground.
Lake activities: Codorus State Park Campground offers boating and fishing on its lake. "You can bring your own boat (gas allowed) or rent one from their marina. There is no swimming allowed in the lake but there is a pool located at the park, there is no extra cost to use the pool if you are at the campground," explains a camper at Codorus State Park Campground.
Nature centers: Patapsco Valley offers educational resources for families. "There is a huge playground, sensory trail and nature discovery center at the entrance to the park. The nature center was closed when we visited, but the kids still enjoyed the sensory trail and playground," shares a visitor at Patapsco Valley State Park-Hilton Area.
What campers like

Easter egg hunts for kids, adult scavenger hunts for alcohol. Wonderful experience for the whole family," reports a camper at Merry Meadows Recreation Farm.
Convenience to cities: Cherry Hill Park serves as a hub for DC exploration. "The best park in the DC area! Very nice grounds, clean, and amenities galore! What you should know
Advance planning: Houck-Cunningham Falls State Park books up quickly during peak periods. "This is a very busy campground and I was advised it normally sells out on weekends, so securing a site in advance is wise," notes one experienced camper at Houck - Cunningham Falls State Park.
Site terrain: Many cabin areas feature crushed stone pads rather than grass or dirt. "The crushed stone at the sites isn't comfortable for tents, and they won't let you pitch it on the ground, so bring extra pads and alternative ways to secure the tent to the ground," advises a camper about Patapsco Valley State Park.
Cash requirements: Some smaller cabin rentals accept limited payment methods. One of the complaints noted about Merry Meadows was "they work on cash. Yeah, I know it's not popular because most of us live in a plastic dominated world."
