Kisatchie National Forest's dispersed camping areas offer pet-friendly experiences throughout the region. Forest Road 380 provides primitive camping with free sites where dogs can accompany their owners without restrictions. The camping areas feature basic amenities with pets allowed at all locations, including Coyote Camp, Corral Camp, and Oak Camp Complex. Most sites maintain vault toilets but no water hookups or shower facilities, requiring campers to bring supplies for themselves and their pets. The natural spring piped near FR380 provides fresh water access that locals frequently use. Several campers report the peace and quiet make these locations ideal for pets that need space to explore without crowds.

Trails throughout Kisatchie National Forest accommodate dogs on leashes with access to clear water sources like Kisatchie Bayou. The Caroline Dorman trail connects directly from several campgrounds, providing extended hiking opportunities for campers with dogs. Wildlife encounters are common in the forest, with reports of deer, bobcats, and snakes, requiring pet owners to maintain control of their animals. The remote location means no cell service in most areas, so pet owners should bring any necessary medications and supplies. Camping areas stay open year-round with temperatures typically warm, though weather can change rapidly. The 14-day stay limit at most campgrounds gives pet owners ample time to explore the trail systems and sandstone formations while camping with their dogs.

      Indian Mounds Recreation Area

      Quiet place to camp

Indian Mounds Campground is located in East Texas near the Texas-Louisiana border in the Sabine National Forest. It is a quiet and peaceful location to camp.

RV and tent campsites come with a fire ring, a picnic table, and potable water. Good views of the lake and situated in forest area. Nearby hiking, biking, swimming, and fishing. Not many campers in campground and that made for a great stay!

Kincaid Lake Campground - Temporarily Closed

      Great weekend getaway

We spent last weekend at Kincaid Lake Campground in Kisatchie. We stayed on Loop A. It was a much busier campground than we expected. Loop B was completely full when we arrived and Loop A had around 5 or 6 spots open. The camp host was very nice and stopped in to check on us about 30-45 minutes after we arrived. Each site had water and electric. Spots for the camper are asphalt and there is a picnic table, grill, fire pit and lantern post at each site. The campground was clean and well maintained. It was pretty quiet day and night, even though there were lots of families with small children and pets. We will definitely be back!

      Indian Creek Recreation Area

      BEAUTIFUL, AND FULL

This campground has just reopened Tuesday, after being closed due to "the virus ". Typically there's no problem getting a campsite during the week, but let me tell you, it's full here now! We are in site number 52. Water and electricity only. Bathrooms and showers are open , but not too clean. Our site is good sized and quite level. A concrete table is on site, as is a decent sized fireplace. Pet and kid friendly. There are boat launches and kayak loading areas at most sites. There is a small beach area for campers and a larger beach area open to the public. Hiking trails are a car ride from this site.

      Valentine Lake Wild Azalea Trail

      Wild

      Open all year

      Primitive

The Wild Azalea Trail is south west of Alexandria, Louisiana on the edge of the Valentine Lake Recreation Area. There is a trail head with parking on the grass, nicely mowed but if it has rained it could be muddy. Primitive camping is permitted adjacent to the trail but campsites must be at least 30 feet from the trail center line.

South Toledo Bend State Park Campground

      ALMOST PERFECT

This was my first time at this beautiful state park. I will definitely come back! 3 days was not long enough to do everything! Our camper site was #46. It had a very large well kept wooden deck with a picnic table. The camper pad was long and concrete. It was slightly uneven, we used 3 blocks to level it off..There was also a large sand pad if you preferred a tent. A firepit was also there. Many of the other sites also had decks, with the same things available. It had water and electricity, a dump station, and very clean shower/restrooms . Also available were primitive camping sites with amazing views. Oh, did I mention that our site had a very short walk to a dock overlooking the beautiful lake. This dock had room for four boats! There are beautiful biking, and hiking trails, both concrete and dirt. Several play areas for the kids! There was a beach and swimming area, a nature center,, and playgrounds. The camp hosts were amazing and very helpful. The park was super clean, family and pet friendly, and a great price at 28 dollars a night. Happy camping!!

Toledo Bend Recreation Site - MILITARY

      Family Friendly, prime fishing location.

The Army Recreation sight managed by MWR is a very well run campground and boat launch. Making a reservation was easy, and the lady i made the reservation with initially even called to follow up when the weather turned ugly.

Our stay was in one of their Yurts. Though they do have cabins as well as primitive camping options. The yurt was supplied with two bunks, the bottoms being a a full size with the top bunks being twins. Amenities included heating and air conditioning as well as a mini fridge, keurig, and a couple of small drawers and a lamp. The only real complaint i can say i had was some of the linoleum tile was loose inside. Other than that, the yurt was an interesting cross between cabin and tent.

Fishing is also very available, as well as playground, boat launch, boat rentals and R.V. accommodations as well.

We may just go back and try a cabin next time as the temperatures have been getting cold here.

Also be aware, there is a one time pet fee when staying in the cabins and yurts.

Kisatchie Bayou NF Campground - Temporarily Closed

      Beauty on the Bayou

Fee: $2.00 day use $2.00 per vehicle

17 primitive walk in tent sites with the sites running along side the beautiful Kisatchie Bayou. There is one drive in that is located in the parking lot.  The bayou looks more like a creek in Arkansas than a Louisiana bayou. Don't think you will find a gator in that bayou. The hardwood and pine forest has lain down a beautiful carpet under your feet with very little noise when you walk. NO WATER. Nice parking area and great hiking. There are a lot of picnic tables and grills close to the parking lots for day use. Pit toilet, grill, picnic table, fire ring, lantern pole.  The area is very beautiful and the peace is amazing especially along side the bayou.  Road in is in very good shape.

      Lakeview Campground Sabine NF

      Out of the way getaway

I have gone camping at Lakeview Campground in August for four years now.

Each time, we are there for a week and hike the Trail Between the Lakes, which starts right at the campground.

The campground itself has two water spigots and port-o-potties, which are cleaned fairly regularly.

There is a boat lunch, but it has fallen into disrepair.

The sites themselves are nice. They have picnic tables, fire rings, and posts to hang things. They are somewhat close to each other.

It is cheap to stay there (3$ a night per site). The view of Louisiana is nice and the sunrises are beautiful.

People often come down to the campsite to fish or spend the day in the water. A ranger once told us there have been issues with people using drugs, but we never had an issue with that in the past.

Over all, a nice place to get away from things.
