Kentucky Splash Waterpark & Campground accommodates pets at its spacious sites positioned beside a small creek. Leashed dogs are welcome throughout the campground area, with designated pet waste stations available at convenient locations. Sites 10-12 are largest with site 12 offering the most shade from nearby trees, making them ideal for campers with pets during summer months. ['Super breezy pull-through sites allow easy setup, with plush green grass providing comfortable ground for pets.'] Several other pet-friendly options near Williamsburg include Clayton Geneva Memorial Campground along the river and Sheltowee Trace Adventure Resort, both offering primitive camping and riverside tent sites where pets can enjoy water access.

The Cumberland River sites at Clayton Geneva Memorial Campground provide sandy riverbanks where dogs can splash and play under supervision. Most campgrounds in the area require pets to be leashed at all times when outside RVs or tents, with typical leash requirements of 6 feet or shorter. Local wildlife presents considerations for pet owners, necessitating proper supervision especially during dawn and dusk hours. Williamsburg's veterinary clinics are located within 15 minutes of most campgrounds, with the closest emergency vet service in Corbin. Dog owners appreciate the sanded, river front tent sites which provide comfortable footing for paws even during hot summer months. Several hiking trails in nearby Daniel Boone National Forest allow leashed dogs, offering excellent exercise opportunities during cooler morning hours.

      Escapees Raccoon Valley RV Park

True RV park right off 1-75

Raccoon Valley RV park is literally just an RV park. The park was very clean and well maintained, and would be a nice place to park for a night as part of a longer trip. The RV park is just right off 1-75, just north of Knoxville, so it would be easy to hop on and off the interstate. The property is just a large gravel parking lot, with a few trees scattered throughout. Not really my kind of camping, but nearly all the spots were full.

The park has a large laundry facility, and a dog park for people traveling/camping with pets. I did see some benches located in the perimeter of the property in shady spots for relaxing.

I assume some of the guests are long term residents, but the sites were all so neat and clean, without built on structures and such that I’ve seen at most places. This RV park will be perfect for some!

      Thompson RV Park

Friendly, next to a playground, near a rivers edge, quiet people.

Beautiful, quiet, friendly. Large grassy area, well maintained. Near a rivers edge, playground, walking track, dog park, soccer fields...all right on or beside grounds. Easy access, allows weekly, or monthly stays.

      Nice little campground

We stayed here one night passing through to our next destination. Staff was super friendly and helpful. Had a pull through site. Sites were a little close, but it was to be expected being a travel stop for most.
They had a playground, horseshoes, cornhole, volleyball, and a dog park. They also had laundry, and a nice little game room.
      Bathhouses were super clean.
There was a Mexican restaurant and a Shoneys witching walking distance, however the Mexican is closed on Sundays.

      Escapees Raccoon Valley RV Park

      Simple, affordable, accessible.

This a an RV park, not a resort. It has everything you need: full hook ups, dog park, laundry. Clean, well kept and friendly. Sites are small and close, but work even for the larger rigs.

A safe and reasonably priced place to spend a night while traveling, or a couple while exploring the area.

First time Staying at a KOA

We picked this stop because it was a halfway point from our trip in Georgia to home in Ohio and it was easy off and on 75. It’s a small campground with only 37 rv sites, a primitive camping section and several small cabins. They offer a pool, dog park, laundry and game room.

It’s very clean and the staff was nice. We got here after hours and they had everything we needed at the check in with our names, site number and directions to our site. They also offer WiFi and cable tv.

There is not much to do in the park itself but it’s quite and close to town.

      Renfro Valley RV Park

      Mt Vernon, KY…It was OK

We arrived at 3 pm on a Friday and stayed 2 night. Have yet to see any employees. Our paperwork was ready and on the board in the front of the building. Sites are roomy, however the roads and sites could use updating. They go from paved to gravel. The laundry room had 3 washers with only 1 working. 2 dryers with only 1 working. We stopped twice for propane but the office door was always locked. They do have a playground for kids and a cute teepee. A small dog park. There was absolutely nothing level on any of these sites.

      Pine Mountain State Resort Park

      Scenic Cabins, Beautiful Hikes

We stayed in the cabins and they are well-maintained and stocked. Pretty rustic, but the fireplaces are worth it and make it extra cozy. They are also pet-friendly! Our dog loves the outdoors, so it’s always a bonus when we can take her with us. We have been back multiple times. Great hiking, we recommend the trail that leads to where 3 states meet. It’s a fairly easy hike and ends with a great view. We have been multiple times, and each season has it's different appeal of beauty!

    Guide to Williamsburg

Williamsburg, Kentucky sits at the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains with elevations ranging from 900 to 1,200 feet. The Cumberland River winds through this region, creating sandy riverbanks that offer natural water access at several dog friendly campgrounds near Williamsburg. Winter temperatures regularly drop below freezing from December through February, with summer highs reaching the upper 80s.

    What to do

Hike to waterfalls: Cumberland Falls State Resort Park provides hiking trails leading to Kentucky's largest waterfall. "We hiked to see Cumberland Falls (from the lodge) and Eagle Falls. After a short drive, we hiked Natural Arch and Yahoo Falls," notes a camper at Ridgeline Campground.

View the moonbow: Schedule your visit during a full moon to see the rare lunar rainbow at Cumberland Falls. "We traveled here just to see the Moonbow and were not disappointed (be sure to make reservations if you're going during that time). We were happy to find good trails in addition plus many modern and resort facilities and activities, great visitor center," reports one visitor at Ridgeline Campground.

Water activities: Laurel Lake offers swimming, fishing, and boating opportunities. At Indian Mountain State Park, "Paddle boats, kayaks, and paddle boards are available for rental at a very low price."

    What campers like

Sandy river camping: The Cumberland River provides unique camping areas. At Clayton Geneva Memorial Campground, campers enjoy "river side tent sites on a shaded, sandy river bank. Reserve online, go straight to camping!! Self serve, no fuss. Fire rings provided. Local guy delivers firewood to your site with one call!!"

Spacious sites: Some campgrounds offer larger sites with good separation. "The sites are very spacious. We stayed 2 days but definitely would go back for longer! Only a half hour to Cumberland Falls which is also a must see!" says a camper at Indian Mountain State Park.

Shaded camping areas: Many campsites feature tree cover that helps during summer heat. A Blue Heron visitor notes, "The campground is a little small and sites are oddly placed, but a great little hike to the falls makes a great day!!" Blue Heron Campground sites include "a picnic table, fire pit, and lantern pole."

    What you should know

Variable site quality: Site conditions can vary significantly within the same campground. At Holly Bay, "We lucked out and stayed in site D5, wow. The view was amazing and the trail down to the lake was so wonderful."

Bathhouse conditions: Facilities range from basic to well-maintained. "Bathhouse not far from any site but only 1 small shower," notes a camper at Clifty Campground.

Limited cell service: Signal strength varies by location and carrier. "Our Verizon cell signal was terrible and the campground wifi was not much better," reports a visitor to Sheltowee Trace Adventure Resort.

    Tips for camping with families

Pool access: Some campgrounds offer swimming facilities for kids. "The perk about the Clifty campsites is that they are close to the pool. You can easily walk to the pool with your family when it opens. The pool is free for campers."

Pet-friendly riverbanks: For those seeking pet-friendly camping options near Williamsburg, certain sites allow dogs to cool off safely. "You can fish in the river and go tubing and Canoeing in the river. They also have Primitive camping. They are right on the river," notes a visitor to Clayton Geneva Memorial Campground.

Playground options: Some campgrounds feature play areas for children. At Sheltowee Trace Adventure Resort, "the playground was unique, & plus it's dog friendly. Our puppers had the best time!"

    Tips from RVers

Site leveling: Some campgrounds require additional work to level RVs. "We have a 25ft travel trailer and it was perfect. There were two tent sites very close to us, but we had more than enough room."

Extension cord needs: At certain sites, utilities may be positioned inconveniently. "Be sure to bring an extension cord if you want to use power. The hookups are too far away," advises a camper from Ridgeline Campground.

Site selection: Research specific sites before booking. "We are in a 40ft class A. Our site was spacious and private. I asked the office for a great spacious site and she did not disappoint."
