    Still Waters Campground

    Wonderfully beautiful, peaceful, and friendly

This campground is located at the mouth of the Elkhorn Creek and Kentucky River. It is extremely popular among locals who want to sit in an tube float and float down the creek to the Kentucky River, a trip that takes approximately 3 to 4 hours. Note you have to bring your own tube. Nearly all of the campsites are spacious and have grass. You can park next to your campsite. The campground is very clean, full of trees and shade, and the lawn is well manicured. On weekends you can find campers playing corn hole and karaoke. Food trucks occasionally set up on weekends. Due to the location, only Verizon and Visible cell phone users have service. There is no local Internet. There are two dump stations for RVs. There is also a hiking trail to the top of a nearby mountain. The view of the Kentucky river is magical. The office is open Wednesday thru Sunday. Use of ground mats are frowned upon as they kill the grass at the campsite but are tolerated for long term campers. They have assorted types of camping sites, including: primitive, water and electric, and full hookup. They also offer daily, weekly, weekend, seasonal, and monthly rates. The public restrooms have no heat and are closed when the weather gets cold.

Cummins Ferry RV Park, Campground on the Kentucky River

Great park next to the river

This is a small well maintained campground right on the Kentucky river. It is down in a hollow which makes it secluded and quiet. There is a dock and a boat ramp. The customer service is exceptional. Under new management since November, they are making some very nice upgrades. 30/50 amp full hook ups with a number of pull throughs. The sites next to the river are level and easy to back into. There is a pavilion and a pool. It is about 30 minutes from Lexington and about 8 miles to the closest town. The one lane road coming in might give you the willies but it is worth it. They have 5 WiFi connections making this some of the best campground WiFi I have ever had. This is a lovely spot with nice amenities.

    Louisville South KOA

Close to Louisville and Bourbon Tours

The Louisville South KOA is approximately 25 miles south of downtown Louisville in Shepardsville, KY. The location is easy to find off the exit of 65(which also has a Walmart and other stores nearby to resupply).

The campground has both pull through gravel sites, back-in, and tent sites. The sites were close to each other but provided plenty of space for the average sized rig. Many were longer than other KOAs, which enabled the tow vehicle and TT to be parked. Full hook-ups and 30/50 amp services at the sites, some leveling required. The campground store is well stocked and the employees are very friendly.

There is a pool(no hot tub-filled in with stones), play/game area, bounce pillow, and 2 miles of hiking trails around the campground. While the campground was nice, there is a lot of“stuff”(old broken trailers, mowers, etc) laying around the edges and in need of mowing between the sites. These items tend to take away from the overall welcoming feeling of the campground.

This being said, the wifi was strong and it is very convenient to sightseeing around Nashville, especially for the price of$54 per night.

    Cummings ferry campground

Small park restrooms and showers. Very clean. Nice pool. Camp store offers basics. Fairly close to shopping groceries etc. staff was friendly 30/50 amp service didn’t count the number of river view sites. But quite a few. Some sites have 20 X 12 elevated decks. Full hook ups. Pet friendly. Was very quiet the week we stayed. Didn’t feel like bringing the camper home so payed for another week and drive back the following week. Cell service. Isn’t the best WiFi was available if I remember. Correctly rates were reasonable

    Buffalo Trace Park

Beautiful lake and well maintained park.

We stayed a few nights at this campground in October.  The campground is made for smaller sizes but we were able to negotiate the main ring road with our 37' travel trailer.  The spot that we had reserved was in an area were we could not get into but we went to the gatehouse and they gave us another spot that was on the main ring road that we were able to park in with no issues.  Cell service was great with Verizon and AT&T service.  The lake was beautiful and the park was well maintained.  Wished the beach, paddle boats, and petting zoo was open...  Still had a great time.  We will surely come back next year when everything is open!!  Had 30 and 50 amp service with water hookups and a dump station at the exit.  Make sure you have plenty of leveling blocks.  We used all of ours and was not level.

    Two Rivers Campground

    Very Nice!

Two Rivers is a fairly new, city run campground close to I-71 and adjacent to the Ohio and Kentucky Rivers. All sites are FHU, about half of them are pull-through and all are on level pads for the rig with adjoining concrete pads with picnic tables. There is a playground for kids, a very nice bathhouse and free WiFi. We’ve stayed here on our way to and from Nashville and are doing so again this year. Can’t recommend enough!

    Still Waters Campground

Great for long term or seasonal

Lots of run down RV’s and shanty town in the back of the park. More long term renters than weekend warriors. One dump station, no sewage on the sites. One bathroom, for the whole Park. lots of tents sites (that were busy) makes for poor bathrooms. Not to mention its outhouse style with no climate control. 1/3 men’s bathrooms were out of order and 1/3 urinals were too. 2/3 showers where out of order and the two useable toilets, the door locks were broken. No wifi. Fires are allowed. Fire pits are run down so be mindful. 2/5 bars for ATT services. Sites aren’t labeled or labeled extremely bad. Electrical seems very out dated. Make sure you have protection. Over priced at $60 + tax for the night. Scattered shade. Pull through sites mainly. Picnic tables have seen better days (years more like it). Good space between sites and access to the river for water sports. Little lake for fishing. No pet area and strict leash laws. I wanna give this a 2/5 because they were pleasant. They encouraged me to review on multiple sites but I think that would be bad for them so I’ll stick to my main review site. 1/5, if the price was better like 30-40/night maybe 2/5 but for the price of a motel 6 and only electrical and that is sketchy. Save your money book elsewhere or avoid.

    Camp Carlson Army RV Park

    Small quiet dispersed

Very quiet. Two fenced dog runs that were slightly overgrown when we first arrived but were cut when the rain allowed. Paved roads throughout but very few paved sights. WIFI and cell service very limited would advise a antenna for long term. Office personnel were extremely helpful and understanding. I had truck problems and it extended our stay so I just had to move trailer to different site. Ft Knox is just a few miles away.

Overall this is a great FamCamp. Will definitely stay again.

    Lake Shelby Campground

    Small and quiet

Came here in our 40’ class A. Very weird at first as the sites are 20 feet long, but they allow front ends to stick out. Very nice park on a lake. All new electrical and water, all sites have 50 amp despite the website stating only 30 amps as recent update. Nice showers, regular campground showers. Good wifi, cable and cell service. Good for a night or two.

Guide to Mount Washington

Mount Washington area RV parks offer both convenience and variety for campers exploring central Kentucky. Located near the Salt River watershed at approximately 902 feet elevation, the region experiences moderate seasonal changes with summer temperatures averaging in the mid-80s°F. Several campgrounds remain accessible year-round, though winter camping requires preparation for occasional freezing temperatures.

What to do

Water activities on Kentucky River: Camp on the Kentucky sits directly on the riverfront where visitors can launch boats and fish for large catches. As one camper notes, "We loved the campground! The walking trail by the river is nice, we walked it almost every day" at Cummins Ferry RV Park.

Live entertainment options: Several campgrounds host regular events, particularly on weekends. At Elkhorn Creek RV Park, visitors mention that "there was even live music!" while another camper appreciated that "the classic rock singer who came in and sang in the pavilion on Saturday night was fun."

Bourbon Trail access: The region provides convenient access to Kentucky distilleries. According to one reviewer at Little Patch of Heaven Campground, this is the "Perfect place to stay and go tour bourbon distillery" with multiple famous distilleries within a 30-minute drive.

What campers like

Waterfront camping options: Many campers appreciate riverside sites. At Camp on the Kentucky, visitors enjoy the "beautiful view of the river" and mention the owners have "that down to earth southern hospitality."

Clean facilities: Campgrounds in the area maintain high cleanliness standards. One visitor to Elkhorn Creek RV Park was particularly impressed: "Can I take a moment to say the restroom/shower was the cleanest I have EVER used. Huge thanks to the staff, you can tell they truly take pride in their work."

Family-friendly amenities: Multiple campgrounds offer features for families. One visitor to Taylorsville Lake State Park Campground mentioned: "We camped there in July for my son's birthday party. We were near the restroom facilities which were very clean. The camping area was recently mowed. Plenty of parking for guests and tents."

What you should know

Reservation policies vary: Some campgrounds have strict payment policies. At Little Patch of Heaven, campers must pay within 24 hours of making reservations or risk cancellation without the ability to rebook.

Seasonal considerations: Most campgrounds have limited availability during peak seasons. Taylorsville Lake State Park Campground operates from "April 1 to December 15" according to their official season information.

Site selection matters: Not all sites at each campground offer the same features or quality. One camper at Taylorsville Lake advised: "Most of the sites were really big, and there was plenty of space and trees in between. We stayed at site P02, but I don't recommend that specific site. It was probably the worst site in the primitive camp... It was far from flat."

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Brooks RV Park receives positive feedback for its family-friendly atmosphere, with one visitor describing it as "safe and lovely with nearly 80 super nice RV sites, picnic tables, and fire pits at every site."

Multiple activity options: Families appreciate campgrounds with varied recreation options. At Cummins Ferry RV Park, one family reported: "We spent 2 nights at Cummins Ferry with 2 other families! We absolutely LOVED it! The staff was friendly and the scenery was amazing! Our sites overlooked the river and we loved the walking trails along the river! We had kids that fished and played in the playground and sat by the fire every night!"

Pet-friendly considerations: Many campgrounds welcome family pets. Elkhorn Creek RV Park features a dog park with "a side for large dogs & small dogs. It was shaded and had seating," making it convenient for families traveling with furry companions.

Tips from RVers

Site levelness: RV campers frequently mention site conditions. One RVer at Cummins Ferry noted: "The sites here are not level. We used our normal 2x green blocks for the Jack, but needed all 10 of our leveling blocks, plus 8 paving stones to get the appropriate height."

Connectivity options: Internet access varies widely between parks. A visitor to Cummins Ferry observed: "There is a pavilion and a pool. It is about 30 minutes from Lexington and about 8 miles to the closest town. The one lane road coming in might give you the willies but it is worth it. They have 5 WiFi connections making this some of the best campground WiFi I have ever had."

Noise considerations: Train noise affects some rv parks near Mount Washington, Kentucky. One camper at Longview RV Park appreciated that it was a "quiet park" with "helpful and friendly" staff, making it a good alternative to noisier options.
