Cave Country RV Campground offers a fenced dog park with covered seating area where pets can exercise off-leash. All ten campgrounds near Cave City accommodate pets with varying amenities and rules. The clean, spacious dog run is particularly appreciated by travelers with energetic dogs needing to burn energy after long drives. Full hookup sites include picnic tables and fire rings, with daily trash pickup from campsites. The campground's pet-friendly policy extends throughout the property, though dogs must remain leashed outside the designated exercise area.

Rock Cabin Camping and Singing Hills RV Park provide simpler pet accommodations with open spaces for walking dogs. Mammoth Cave National Park permits leashed pets on select trails and campground areas but prohibits them inside cave systems. Most parks implement standard pet policies requiring proof of rabies vaccination, proper waste disposal, and supervision. The laundry facilities prove convenient for pet owners needing to wash bedding or towels used by dogs during camping trips. Jellystone Park requires physical rabies tags rather than electronic documentation. During summer months, shaded sites become essential for keeping pets comfortable, as many campgrounds have limited mature trees. Veterinary services are available within a 15-20 minute drive from most Cave City campgrounds.

      Cave Country RV Campground

      Good stop along the way

Off the freeway and very convenient. Very clean. Great dog park. Do not camp close to the railroad tracks. Loud horns in the middle of the night. Not much shade. Close to Mammoth Caves.

      Bowling Green KOA

Why would I pay that much?!

My brother visits KOA’s all the time for camping. Me, not so much. I have a hard time paying $40 for a tent site when I can camp for free or under $20. The Bowling Green KOA, Ky is located on the outskirts of Bowling Green near the I65 and Natcher interchange. You can actually see the back end of the campground from the ramp that connects the two. My first thought when considering a stay.
I spoke with two of the very friendly and helpful ladies in the office and got a plethora of information. So much so that I’m sure I’ll forget some of it, but here goes;) So first with your fee you recieve (you and all your group) a free game of Minature Golf a day. Next there is wifi and cable available. There is a swimming pool on site and two pay lakes with paddle boats. A dog park and short trail. Depending on the month you visit there are also special incentives to stay an extra night. In May some of your fee is donated to Camp. With a KOA card there are special incentives too and you earn points with every stay. So, all that being said I did purchase a KOA card. Though this is not my favorite type of camping it will come in handy on an upcoming trip and when I camp with my brother ;) I was pleasantly surprised that the interstate noise was mostly not noticiple. There are plenty of trees that help block the noise and offer a lot of shade. We were in a busier site at the end of Abby Dr but it was an easy walk to the two small “lakes“( more like ponds ) and the dog park and showerhouse (with dogwash station) were a short walk away. Not much else to do but a fun enough spot for younger kids. ( no “bears“ to take photos with) and not as many special activities as some other theme campgrounds. This is a nice older campground, worth a night or two visit to get away from the grind for a bit.

Singing Hills RV Park And Campground

Absolutely delightful, clean, quiet campground near Mammoth Cave NP

We stayed at Singing Hills last weekend to celebrate my mother and father in law’s birthday’s and Easter. We stayed in site 17. It was perfect for our 35ft TT and room enough to park our TV in front. Our site was right next to the catch and release pond. We had a little bridge that crossed the creek from our main site to an additional space where our fire ring was. That area provided plenty of shade and quick access to the pond. It’s closely located to I65 south and many of the attractions in Cave City. The owner, Eldon, was such a pleasure to work with. They had a DVD lending Library and other camping needs in the office. There is a bath house and a well maintained dump station in the turn around by the pond. The camp ground was super clean and quiet. Everyone was in by 10. Eldon provided information about local favorites for food, attractions, church services and information about the closest urgent care facilities. My son caught his first fish that weekend and has been begging to go back already. If i could rate it 10 stars, I would. We will definitely be back sooner than later!!!

Mammoth Cave Campground — Mammoth Cave National Park

      Base Station

Mammoth Cave Campground is in the country but centrally located between several nice size cities and right off I65.

No signal once you get in the park except if your lucky at the lodge. We tuned in to WIFI whenever we passed through the Visitors Center/lodge restaurant in the morning.

The campground is primitive, no electric with parking pads, picnic tables and fire rings. There is a restroom in the campground and a shower house, laundry room, post office and store adjacent. The dump station is next to that facility right outside the front “gate”.

There is enough space between camp sites to have some privacy and the trees provide natural noise block and shade. There be critters in the woods so protect your food! You may see deer and turkey, you won’t see the little shit raccoon that runs off with dog toys and any food left out ;)

There are several trail access points directly from the campground. Including two easy trails to the visitors center.

Aside from the obvious, cave tours, there are several other options on how to spend your day and nights.

If your coming for the cave specifically make sure you reserve your preferred cave tour way ahead of time!

If you are coming for the trails, enjoy! There are multiple options. I run the trail near the visitor center year round. It is technical and hilly, not stroller friendly.

The trails on the far side of the Green River ferry have dispersed camping sites and plenty of natural features to discover.

The float down the Green River is enjoyable. If you bring your own water craft several of the companies will drive you to the put in from the ferry parking area for a nominal fee.

Also across the Green River is the Maple Springs group and horse campground, I’m not a horse person but I see plenty of them in the area and they seem to be enjoying the trails and campground.

There is also zip lines in the area, a winery and golfing.

Fast food and Wally World in Brownsville, other touristy attractions one exit up at Cave City. (Ky Down Under and Dinosaur World, plus a Yogi Bear Campground)

We spent the weekend hiking in the rain and avoided Green River, it’s a muddy mess right now.

      Bowling Green KOA

      Nice KOA

This KOA was easy to find by following our GPS. We checked in about 45 minutes prior to their 1:00 PM check in time and they didn’t even mention us being early. We decided we didn’t need an escort to our site as it was near the office. We proceeded to deluxe-patio pull-through site H-4 with FHUs. The utilities were nicely placed in the middle of the pad. Water pressure was good at about 50 psi. This site has plenty of shade as does most sites in the campground (CG) due to mature trees, so we did not put out Starlink. We got 4 bars LTE on Verizon and used our MiFi versus Starlink. Site H-4 has a utility box on the yard side, so we had extra space between the adjacent site. They have a decent sized dog park with an agility set up. This KOA has a lot of amenities and lives up to a Holiday KOA rating. The dog park is a nice size. They have a decent laundry room behind the office with 4 washers and 8 dryers. It’s$2.50 to wash and$1.50 to dry. They have 2 fishing ponds. The large one you can keep 2 fish for$20 and the small one is catch and release. There’s some traffic noise from I-65 and surrounding roads. Our main reason to visit the area was to visit the National Corvette Museum. We enjoyed our two night stay.

      Moutardier

      Lakeside, fisherman's paradise

Moutardier Campground is a fisherman’s paradise. It is located on Nolin River Lake. Our site was lakeside which was beautiful (Site D6). This campsite offered electric/water hookup, fire pit, picnic table, filet table, bathrooms, and showers. There were boat ramps, a marina nearby to rent boats, and also offered a playground. Pets were welcomed (we have a dog and a hiking cat). We also had cell service (Verizon).

The view of the lake from the teardrop camper was awesome. We kayaked around the lake which was very enjoyable - saw ducks, and birds such as a grey heron. Also lots of fish jumping. There are power boats allowed in the lake. Many people were fishing from their boats, kayaks, or from the shore.

There is also a two mile hike that is in the campground called Shady Creek Trail. It looked like it had not been hiked in a while but it went through woods, small stream and had a cool rock formation at one part that you would swear is a haven for snakes. Pets enjoyed it but beware if you do not like spiders. This trail was covered in spiders and webs. No exaggeration that we cleared about a hundred spiders out of our path.

The campground was very well manicured and clean. Many of the sites were right on the lake. They were close together but did not seem it as they were on different levels and angles. Everyone was quiet and courteous. Bathrooms were very clean and well lit. The showers were “dated” - water stains but clean. Great water pressure and hot water.

There was no store on the campground but 5 minutes away was a great little restaurant called Sherry’s that we had both lunch and breakfast at. Food was delicious (fried dill pickle chips!) and one could buy bags of ice.

Overall this was a very relaxing campground. We met some wonderful people who have been coming to the campground for years. It is about 30 minutes from Mammoth Caves which was a great place to explore. Overall we gave the campground a 4 - lakeside and if you love to fish - it’s paradise.

    Guide to Cave City

Mammoth Cave National Park dominates Cave City's camping landscape, offering a unique karst topography with over 400 miles of mapped passages. Most campgrounds near Cave City sit at elevations between 600-800 feet above sea level, creating mild camping conditions with average summer temperatures of 85-90°F during peak season. Winter camping remains available at select campgrounds with temperatures typically between 30-45°F.

    What to do

Cave tours beyond Mammoth: While Mammoth Cave gets most attention, Diamond Caverns RV Resort and Golf provides easy access to alternative cave systems. "This park is located on the entrance road to Mammoth Caves NP, and it is a spectacular way to stay and enjoy the hiking in the caves! There are many local restaurants within 20 minutes and several other cave systems to see here as well," notes Laura H.

Fishing opportunities: The catch-and-release pond at Singing Hills RV Park And Campground offers convenient fishing for families. "Our site was right next to the catch and release pond. We had a little bridge that crossed the creek from our main site to an additional space where our fire ring was. My son caught his first fish that weekend and has been begging to go back already," shares Marissa G.

Outdoor adventure activities: Beyond caves, the area offers diverse activities. "You will drop some green here but it is a lot of fun! Aside from the caves, check out Alpine slide across the street near the RV park," mentions Beth B. about attractions near Singing Hills. Local outfitters also provide kayaking opportunities on Green River with rentals and shuttle services.

    What campers like

Diverse accommodation options: Horse Cave KOA offers unique lodging beyond standard campsites. "There were a ton of things for kids and families to do. There was a pool, playground, pond, etc. There were some really cool wagon tents, teepee's, and actual tree houses," reports Holdun R.

Spacious campsites with privacy: Many campgrounds feature well-designed sites that balance accessibility with privacy. At Nolin Lake State Park Campground, "the tent campground has spacious, level sites. The sites are located in a grove of pine trees, which makes for well shaded sites with a pleasant surface of soft pine straw to pitch your tents," explains Christina M.

Wildlife viewing: Natural encounters enhance the camping experience at Mammoth Cave Campground. "Very clean & quiet! The wildlife are very friendly! Deer & turkey walk thru ur campsite!" shares Gloria J. Several campers note frequent encounters with deer, wild turkey, frogs, and seasonal fireflies throughout the campgrounds.

    What you should know

Seasonal considerations: Summer heat impacts campsite selection. Christina M. notes about Nolin Lake: "Thursday night we were kept awake by loud campers and campground staff weren't around to enforce quiet hours. Quiet hours do not start until 11 PM which is not ideal for campers with young children. The park started filling up on Friday and Saturday and was obviously very crowded on the weekend."

Noise factors: Some campgrounds experience noise issues. At Cave Country RV Campground, "there is a train that goes by about every 20-40mins and it is quite loud. But not a deal breaker for me," mentions Bre B. Similarly, Thomas R. advises, "Do not camp close to the railroad tracks. Loud horns in the middle of the night."

Electrical limitations: Power capacity varies between campgrounds. At Diamond Caverns, Jason F. warns: "The electricity at the campground doesn't appear to be able to handle the amount of load that most campers will pull in the summer months. The checkin packet recommends not running multiple high wattage appliances simultaneously (even if the total draw would be under the amperage of your site's breaker)."

    Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly amenities: Jellystone Park offers extensive family activities. "This is the kind of campground you can take your kids, never leave the campground, and have fun for days. We did arts and crafts, bingo, trick or treating, watched the golf cart parade, played on several of the different playgrounds, and putt putt golf," recommends Samantha B.

Shower facilities: Bathroom quality varies significantly between campgrounds. Horse Cave KOA recently upgraded facilities: "They have recently built a new bath house and it's awesome. It has rooms that each have a toilet, sink and shower. Total privacy! Nice and clean as well. Big points for this amenity," notes Bethany W.

Family-friendly hiking: Multiple trail options accommodate various skill levels. At Rock Cabin Camping, Anthony A. mentions they're "Very close to mammoth cave and a few others, plus lots of hiking." Several campgrounds connect directly to trail systems suitable for family exploration with well-marked, shorter routes.

    Tips from RVers

Site selection strategies: Level sites remain crucial for RVers. At Diamond Caverns, "Sites in row B are 30 amp hookups. Some sites has short concrete pads in between gravel while others are just gravel. I would not recommend the concrete pads as most of them are too short for most rigs and will make it challenging to level," advises Jason F.

Pet-friendly features: Dog friendly campgrounds near Cave City include Cave Country RV Campground, which offers "a nice dog park with a mini obstacle course," according to Jody A. from Horse Cave KOA. Scott M. adds that Cave Country RV has "a beautiful dog park with well trimmed grass and large."

Utility considerations: Water pressure issues occur at some locations. Jason F. notes at Diamond Caverns: "Water spigots are also shared, which means you'll have low water pressure if you're both using water simultaneously." Several campgrounds implement water conservation measures during peak season that affect shower duration and campsite water availability.
