What to do
Boating and fishing access: Moutardier Campground sits directly on Nolin Lake, offering boat ramps and shore fishing opportunities. "The campground only had about 5 or so RVs in it and we thought we would have a few days of quiet. It sits right on Nolin Lake which is supposed to be infamous for it's blue-green waters," notes Bran P.
Water sports: Dog Creek Campground provides lake swimming with beach access. "Awesome campground. Great views of the lake from sites, very clean bathrooms. Sites each have a fire ring, nice picnic table, and extra 'cooking' table that was an added plus. Lake is perfect for swimming, boating, or kayaking," shares Ellen L.
Theme park visit: While camping in the region, many visitors travel to Santa Claus, Indiana for Holiday World theme park. "I was a little hesitant about Holiday World as it sounds a little cheesy, but I think it's one of the nicest amusement parks we've ever been to. The Voyage in particular is intense. I would not recommend sitting in the back of the train," explains Danielle V.
What campers like
Lake views: Many campsites in the region offer water views. At Wax - Nolin River Lake, campers appreciate the waterfront options. "We value nature and privacy and we loved this campground! We were looking for a campground with electric hookups for our teardrop near Mammoth Cave due to forecasted 97 degree temps. Sunset over the lake was spectacular," writes Alison K.
Wildlife viewing: Birdwatching opportunities abound at campgrounds near Hartford. "We loved watching all the birds here. Right from our camps we could see a trip of Redheaded Woodpeckers playing as well as a mama Northern Flicker feeding her babies. We even saw a giant Pileated Woodpecker," reports another camper at Wax campground.
Clean facilities: Despite limited amenities at some rv campgrounds near Hartford, Kentucky, cleanliness remains a priority. "The facilities are newer and well maintained, more or less centrally located in the loops. The water is accessible from most of the sites but the Corp is a little picky about where you park your canoe and place your tent. Keep it neat," advises Shelly S.
What you should know
Seasonal considerations: Water levels fluctuate at area lakes, affecting camping experience. One visitor to Livermore RV Park notes, "These sites are right off the green river, there is a boat ramp adjacent. Good people all around, and the monthly is amazingly low. You can opt to pay for 50 or 30 amp service. Only cash or check accepted however."
Cell service limitations: Coverage varies significantly throughout the region. While some areas maintain strong signals, others have minimal connectivity. "We had no signal at all on my phone or my husband phone but it was okay. Over all had a great time," reports Linda T. about her stay at a local campground.
