Best Campgrounds near Winfield, KS

The Winfield, Kansas area features several lake-oriented campgrounds within a 30-mile radius, with options ranging from basic tent sites to full-service RV parks. Winfield City Lake provides camping with electric hookups, drinking water, and shower facilities, though it remains relatively small and basic. Nearby alternatives include Napawalla Park in Oxford with affordable electric sites ($10-15 per night) and Cowley County Fishing Lake south of Arkansas City, which offers more primitive lakeside camping with minimal amenities. The Winfield Fairgrounds RV Park provides year-round camping with full hookups for travelers needing convenient in-town access, while Wellington KOA offers more developed facilities including cabins and glamping options for those willing to drive slightly farther.

Camping facilities throughout the region vary significantly in terms of rule enforcement and amenities. According to camper reviews, Winfield City Lake rarely enforces quiet hours, potentially leading to disruptive neighboring campsites. As one visitor noted, "If you get unlucky enough to be near a party, you will listen to it all night." Most campgrounds in the area operate on an honor system for payment, with self-registration boxes near bathhouses. Bathroom facilities at many sites close seasonally, typically opening from mid-April through mid-October. Weather considerations include hot, humid summers and occasional severe thunderstorms, making spring and fall generally more comfortable for camping. Many sites offer little natural shade, so summer visitors should prepare accordingly.

Waterfront access represents the primary draw for most campgrounds in the region. Cowley County Fishing Lake receives consistently positive reviews for its peaceful setting and lakeside sites, with one camper describing it as having "several spots beside the lake or built on little peninsulas surrounded by water on three sides." Weekday camping typically offers more solitude, while summer weekends can become crowded and occasionally rowdy at the more popular lakes. Fishing opportunities abound at most sites, with designated swimming areas at several locations including Wellington Lake, which features a roped-off beach area with a playground. Stargazing conditions are generally excellent at the more rural sites, with minimal light pollution and open skies.

    Lake Ponca Campgrounds

    Trashy looking camp area

Not appealing whatsoever. Small, and usually has some people in there that leave messes and stare a lot

    Coon Creek Cove

    Coon creek campground

The campsites are nice and there is some open space. BUT every time we've camped there there are dogs barking, kids free roaming causing ruckus, people drunk and constantly playing loud music. This is why we like dispersed campers better. The last time we went someone came into my campsite and stole my cell phone.

    All Seasons RV Park

    In and out

We arrived around 9pm and left at 9am. I had booked at 4pm but they never emailed me a spot number nor left me a paper registration. I called them at 9pm and they answered. Very impressed. Not impressed with lot size. I have never seen a lot where both campers didnt have room to out out their awnings. Very tight. Otherwise fine.

    Bear Creek Cove

    Off the beaten path

Although you will travel the countryside and down a gravel road, you will enjoy the quiet and lovely grounds that Neal takes such good care of. When we were there, the lake was 27 ft. above its limits, with much tree debris in the lake. So, we didn't fish. However, you can see where the grounds keeper mowed paths to where the lake would have been. You will enjoy Bear Creek Cove. Grounds has its own dumpstation. Trash. Playground. Showers and public toilets. Water and electricity hookups. Grills and covered and uncovered picnic tables.

    Napawalla Park

    Nice and quiet

The campground have 30 and 50 AMP hook ups, and water. The dump station is by the entry, the have a playground, disk golf course shelters, volleyball and basketball courts. Nice and quiet located on the side of the town. The bathroom where close i assume they will open later in the season. I didn’t see anyone, but they have cameras at the entrance. Caseys gas station in a walking distance from the campground. And the best is only $15 a night. $10 just to dump and only $3.50 for primitive camping.

    Cowely county fishing lake

    Great for moto camping

Throughout the day, there was about three people fishing. It felt like I had the place to myself. I’m not sure if it was because it’s just March and nothing’s quite green yet, but the lake was peaceful.

At the time I was there, the waterfall was dried up and I was able to take a trail down to the bottom and see everything up close

I like to rate all of my campgrounds whether I would or wouldn’t camp there again and I can’t wait to take some friends there

    Cave Park

    Primitive Camping next to River

Cave Park is a shady city park with no utilities. Cave Park has a public access point that allows the public to put kayaks and boats into the river. This also is a favorite fishing spot for locals. Cave Park does allow primitive camping at no cost for one night only. There are playground equipment and several pavillons.
