    Rocky Pond City Park Campground

    Quiet, peaceful lakeshore camping

Nice, grassy sites right around the small lake, next to a cornfield. There are picnic tables, fire pits, a playground, and a couple shaded pavilions for a picnic or rain shelter. It’s pretty quiet except for the constant low hum of a nearby mill - very Kansas. It’s patrolled by police regularly and is a peaceful, serene, no frills place to camp for a night. Also included - boat ramp for recreation or fishing, bathrooms, disc golf course. Town is right down the road for supplies.

    Jamestown Wildlife Area

    Mosquito Heaven

My husband and I just needed somewhere to stay overnight while driving through Kansas.  This fit the bill because it was along our route.  It is VERY primitive and used for hunting according to the website.  Our issue was that there were a million mosquitos because the water flowing right beside it.  We couldn't even walk from the car to our teardrop camper without getting swarmed.  Otherwise the area would not have been horrible just to stay overnight.  We did not make it to the bathroom across the road, but it looked like a normal vault toilet.

Cedar Point Campground — Lovewell State Park

    Family Favorite

Been camping here since I was a kid and still love bringing my kids to Lovewell. The campgrounds accommodate everything from a tent to a camper. I have even stayed in a hammock a couple times. However, we usually take our camper with the kids and enjoy Cedar Point hook ups. The bath houses are always clean and nice facilities to use.

For the kids they have a nice park and area to play up by the Marina area. I also recommend taking a drive around the outside for docks and fishing areas away from the main camping. We take our kayaks with us and enjoy exploring the coves around the lake.

Lovewell is a man made lake for irrigation purposes so if there is a dry year the lake will be low. That to me is it’s only down fall.

Village of Diller Park - Diller Campground

    Quiet get away

We spent the weekend at Diller RV park in June 2020. Very nice, clean, plenty of shade camp site. Diller is a very small Village with a small Main Street, which we enjoyed walking to. The have a great locker to pick up items to grill. The park was very nice. It was a great get away from the city noise. Diller is very close to Rock creek station as well.

Guide to Republic

Camping options near Republic, Kansas cluster around water features and state parks within a 20-mile radius. The region experiences hot summers with temperatures often exceeding 90°F and cold winters that can drop below freezing. Most campgrounds in the area sit at elevations between 1,500 and 1,800 feet, with seasonal availability varying by location and water levels at reservoirs.

What to do

Fishing opportunities year-round: Lovewell State Park offers excellent fishing at multiple locations around the lake. "Great fishing," notes one camper, adding they "drop in with the kayaks at this point and do a lot of fishing and swimming here." The park permits fishing from boats, shore, or docks with Kansas fishing licenses required.

Disc golf courses: Rocky Pond City Park Campground includes a disc golf course that wraps around the small lake. According to a visitor, "There is a disc golf course available at the back of the lake." The course is free to use and suitable for beginners and intermediate players. Deshler City Park also features disc golf among its recreational options.

Winter camping adventures: Winter stays offer a different experience with fewer crowds. One camper reports, "We have visited Lovewell many times during the summer, but this was our first winter trip." They particularly appreciated the campfire setup, noting "The camp fire ring was THE BEST I have EVER seen! It was spacious to accommodate a substantial fire, and had an ADJUSTABLE grill grate!"

What campers like

Clean facilities: Lincoln Park receives consistent praise for maintenance. "Park was very clean and quiet. Park is well maintained also," writes one camper. Another notes, "Nice clean and quiet place... Pads are Concrete, I believe they have 20 pads, and an area for tent campers with electricity as well."

Budget-friendly options: Several campgrounds offer free or low-cost stays. A camper at Deshler City Park Campground describes it as "$10.00 per night with first three days free with maximum stay of 7 consecutive nights." Lincoln Park offers free camping with hookups, which is uncommon for developed sites.

Concrete pads with hookups: Most campgrounds provide level concrete pads for RVs. One visitor to Riverside Park mentioned, "We are at a level concrete pad site. Water is available but not at our site." Another camper at Harbine Park noted "4 concrete rv pads" making setup easier for larger vehicles.

What you should know

Cell service limitations: Service can be spotty throughout the region. A camper at Walleye Point Campground observed "We couldn't get any cell service so we had to use our imaginations and get creative, and go on lots of walks and trails." Download maps and information before arrival.

Water level fluctuations: Lovewell Reservoir levels change significantly. One camper explains, "Lovewell is a man made lake for irrigation purposes so if there is a dry year the lake will be low. That to me is it's only down fall."

Limited shopping options: Small towns surrounding Republic have minimal services. A camper at Harbine Park noted, "Very small Midwest town. Two gas stations no grocery stores." Stock up on supplies in larger towns before arrival.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Multiple campgrounds feature playgrounds for children. A Lincoln Park visitor mentions "a large playground in the shade," while another camper notes Lovewell has "a nice park and area to play up by the Marina area."

Swimming options: Harbine Park Campground offers creek access for wading during summer months. One camper noted the "shaded area with a short trail along the creek." Rocky Pond allows swimming in the lake during summer, and Riverside Park has "city pool within sight" according to one review.

Spacious campsites: Look for campgrounds with room for kids to play. A visitor to Lovewell mentioned, "All of the primitive spots are wonderful and have a lot of space for the kids to play. There are also beautiful views of the lake at all of the primitive camping spots."

Tips from RVers

Hookup location awareness: At some parks, hookups may be inconveniently placed. One camper at Rocky Pond notes, "If you stay in the upper level, you might want to make sure you have a long sewer hose as it is quite a ways behind the trailer."

Generator limitations: Most pet-friendly campgrounds near Republic restrict generator use. Utilize the electric hookups instead, which are available at nearly all sites in the region.

Weight restrictions on bridges: Access points can have vehicle weight limits. One RVer warns about Lincoln Park: "IMPORTANT: Do not use the 4th street entrance if your vehicle is over 6,000 pounds. There's a three ton weight limit on it. Use the 8th street entrance instead."
