Platte River State Park offers a newly constructed dog park area with separate sections for large and small breeds. Highway noise affects some pet-friendly camping areas, particularly at Victorian Acres RV Park, though most dogs adjust quickly to the background sounds. Double Nickel Campground strategically places pet owners near their dog exercise areas, a thoughtful touch appreciated by travelers with dogs. Coming from MO, Nebraska is usually just a one night stop for us (as we head onto bigger and cooler states). We were happy to find this clean RV park near Nebraska City. Big, but quiet. Friendly staff. Homey. Green space. Great dog park.
We were passing through Nebraska and opted to stay the night here. The campground is new and will be even nicer when the trees are big enough to provide shade. We only stayed one night but enjoyed the walk to the small waterfall in the park. There is a large dog park, clean restrooms and nice trails for walking.
Just stopped for one night. Some highway and train noise whenever outside. Neighbor playing music outside late at night (after 10pm) which was annoying. Came after hours and name was left on board with check in info: Sites are nice with trees and vegetation but not very level. Dog park is nice though
Would recommend for a stopover
Stayed here for a week over 4th of July, 2020 amid COVID19 restrictions. Lots of shade, though some sites are full sun. Great dog park: large, secure and shaded. Play ground, basketball, pool, family activities. Very clean restrooms. Good camp store with decent prices. Easy access to Omaha.
This was a great location to explore different areas but it is a very crowded location. Some people like that and visiting with everyone. That is not for me. The campground is well maintained, the staff is friendly and our dogs enjoyed the dog park on the property.
Very nice campground. Kid friendly with tons of activities. Nice pool & hot tub. Clean laundry facilities and they even have a dog park.
Popped in for a quick one night stay on our way west. Chose this place based on reviews on The Dyrt. It is mid week in October but it's so quiet, which we really like. Great pull through spaces with full hook ups and fantastic WiFi which allowed me to get some much needed work in. When I told the owner we had two dogs he put us directly across from the dog park which our pups really liked. Super cute touches around the place including bench swings at all the sites. Looks like the place could be great for families in the summer.
It is directly adjacent to the highway so there is some noise but it's not too bad. We actually felt it was quiet and relaxing.
Camping options near Roca, Nebraska range from lakeside tent sites to full-service RV parks across several recreation areas. Most campgrounds in this region sit between 1,200 and 1,400 feet elevation and experience typical Midwestern seasonal variations with hot summers and cold winters. Fall camping season offers the most moderate temperatures, with nighttime lows in the 50s and daytime highs in the 70s, making it ideal for tent campers wanting to avoid summer humidity.
Water activities: Pawnee Lake offers excellent swimming access at designated beach areas. "We've spent so much time here. The location is great, lake is great, and the people have always been awesome! We love boating, swimming, camping," notes Bailey from Lakeview Campground — Pawnee State Recreation Area.
Kayaking and fishing: Olive Creek Lake provides primitive camping with water-based recreation. "I like it for kayaking and kayak fishing. It has a really nice launch area. It does get quite busy over the summer months," explains A H. who regularly visits the area.
Hiking trails: Branched Oak Lake features several miles of trails suitable for day hikes. "There is a mile-long hiking and biking trail is also found in the park," notes Charles C., highlighting the accessible nature of trails for all skill levels.
Stargazing opportunities: At more secluded locations, night skies offer excellent viewing conditions. "Enjoy excellent star gazing away from city lights," says Joe R. about Olive Creek Lake State Recreation Area, which offers a more remote camping experience than busier parks.
Large camping groups: Camp A Way accommodates larger family gatherings with specialized sites. "We were here years ago when the kids were all a little younger. They had such fond memories that we made it work to swing thru Lincoln again and they had a blast even as teenagers," shares Jennifer H. about their return visit to Camp A Way Campground.
Quiet weekday camping: Many campers prefer mid-week visits to avoid crowds. "It's great for overnighters in the middle of the week," observes Brian C. about Pawnee Lake, noting the significant difference in campground atmosphere between weekends and weekdays.
Highway noise impacts: Some campgrounds experience significant road noise. "The highway is so close you can see the cars going by. It's extremely loud and constant highway sounds. If you are in a camper or RV, it probably doesn't make much difference, but in a tent, it took away a bit of the magic of camping for us," explains Heather A. at Wagon Train State Recreation Area.
Algae blooms: Lake conditions can change seasonally with occasional closures. "The lake was closed due to a toxic algae bloom which meant that it was a little quieter than normal," notes Bran P. about their experience at Pawnee Lake.
Facility maintenance varies: Bathroom and shower facilities receive mixed reviews. "Nebraska campgrounds are never that stellar in my opinion often right by the freeway, but this one was the worst. The location is beautiful but the restrooms were the worst I've ever seen," reports Elizabeth B. about her experience at Pawnee Dam.
