Best RV Parks & Resorts near Rockford, IA

Several RV campgrounds operate within a 25-mile radius of Rockford, Iowa. Oakwood RV Park in Clear Lake provides electric, sewer, and water hookups with both 50-amp service and big-rig-friendly sites, operating seasonally from April 15 to October 15. Clear Lake State Park Campground offers electric sites with 30 and 50-amp options, featuring paved roads throughout the park and gravel pads that some RVers report as not completely level. Three Fingers Campground & RV Park in Forest City accommodates large motorhomes with full hookup sites and operates from April 1 to November 1. Pilot Knob State Park provides more economical camping with 30-amp hookups. "For $12/night on a 30AMP hookup, I really can't complain. Enjoyable scenery, especially at sunset."

Advance reservations are recommended for the more popular parks during summer months, though several campgrounds like Inglebretson Park operate on a first-come, first-served basis. Most RV parks in the region maintain clean restroom and shower facilities, with dump stations available at Clear Lake State Park, Oakwood RV Park, and Three Fingers Campground. Winter camping options are limited, with most facilities closing between October and April. Proximity to Interstate 35 makes several parks easily accessible for larger rigs. Site spacing varies considerably between parks, with state park campgrounds generally offering more room between sites than private facilities. According to one review, "Sites are nice level spots for RVs at least in the back side of park. Full hookups. Can get a little cramped though when everyone comes in."

White Fox — Myre-Big Island State Park

    Nice state park

This is a rustic state park with limited amenities. There are no water or electric hook ups. However clean water is available in the park. The park does have flush toilets and showers. We found these to be in good condition and clean. The showers had warm water. The water stream is on a timer and so are the lights. The shower stalls are Individual stalls. The interior roads are dirt roads with a few potholes they are very narrow. The camping sites are nice sized and relatively private. There is a gravel pad on each site and some have a tent pad. Each site had a picnic table and a fire ring. There are plenty of walking and biking trails and there are walk-in tent camp sites. However, you cannot see the lake from the campground and there is no access to the lake from the campground. We were able to drive through the campground with our 40 foot fifth wheel. But just barely, be careful!

    Peaceful

In the middle of corn and bean fields..very peaceful! Open camp sites some shaded and pull through. Big rig friendly. Pool was closed for repair on our visit but looked like nice sized pool. Staff was welcoming and grounds were clean.  Drive over to Austin and visit the Spam Museum...who knew?

    Camp At The Woods

Nice people and ray is working hard to update!

Ray is a great guy ! He let us come in for a weekend , and let us pick our site on arrival. We had full hook up, but the sewer connection was at the front of the site and was up hill kind of . Nice concrete Pads at the site with fire rings. Mostly seasonal sites and month to month workers in here but would definitely come back if there was an open site

White Fox — Myre-Big Island State Park

    Nice Park

Stayed here one night, halloween, last night open for the season. Only trailer in the whole park. Site required a little bit of leveling but a little muddy. Part of pad was gravel and part of pad was mud. Electric site only, no water or sewer. Water spigots and dump were fairly conveniently located with good trailer pull through but it was shut down for the season.

    George Wyth State Park Campground

Another bargain at an Iowa State Park

    Why Should You Camp Here?

    • Iowa state parks are a bargain! This one is $11 for a non-electric site, $16 for an electric site. (Rates go down to $6 and $11 from 10/1-4/30.) There is no separate park entry fee (unlike some states).

    • You can rent kayaks, canoes or pedal boats near the campground at Wyth Lake. And there are 3 other nearby lakes.

    • There's a small beach at Wyth Lake.

    • The Cedar River is on the edge of the campground.

    • You're so close to Cedar Falls and Waterloo which means there are craft breweries!

    • We were only there for a night but I saw this on reserveamerica.com: "The Lake-to-State Park Bike Route is a 50 mile route connecting Pine Lake and George Wyth State Park. The route primarily utilizes county highways and established bike routes and paths once inside Cedar Falls/Waterloo."

    • We didn't do everything we could do there, because we were just passing through. Check this out: https://iowastateparks.reserveamerica.com/camping/george-wyth-state-park/r/campgroundDetails.do?contractCode=IA&parkId=610125

    Amenities

    • The usual fire ring and picnic table

    • Dump station and potable water

    • Flush toilets and running water in bathrooms along with push button showers. Ok, push button showers are not ideal. Just keep pushing that button and hopefully you'll be okay with the temperature that you can't control!

    Cedar View Park

    Beautiful park, gross bath house

This is a lovely park. It is fairly quiet, you can hear some highway noise in the distance. The lake is lovely and clean. The spots are gravel, most sites will require some leveling but are not too bad.

Each site has a newer electric pedestal with 30 and 50 amp service, and each site has a water spigot, as well as a picnic table and fire ring.

There are a few sites that back up directly to the lake. There is a swimming beach and a dock. There is a city park adjacent to the campground with a playground and picnic shelter.

I had 3 bars on on T-mobile which got me 64 down and 18 up. On Verizon I had 3 bars which got me 65 down and 12 up.

The shower house was pretty bad though. It was older, which doesn't bother me, but it was dirty. There are camp hosts on site but I guess their duties do not include ever cleaning the restroom. There was food trash in there all week, and if you look around you'll find feces, blood, and personal hygiene trash including used condoms.

I would stay in this campground again because I have a self contained unit and do not need to use the on-site shower house.

White Fox — Myre-Big Island State Park

Quiet Spot Near a Tranquil Lake

Got to this campground late in the evening. Check in was a breeze and easy to find and pull into the site. We had an electric site. Very level and clean. Nice fire pit and located right next to the lake. Only downside was the site was electric only. No option for full hookup but water was located between the sites. Dump station was clean and modern and located close by.
