    Hueston Woods State Park Campground

it used to be so much better

the campground is seriously in need of some tlc and they have gotten rid of the deer exhibit and replaced it with a dog park which is sad because my family spent a few hours each trip just petting and feeding the deer before. also the nature center isn’t what it used to be. bathrooms are always nasty. it’s sad because this used to be our go to campground.

    Indianapolis KOA

    Great campground

We stayed here on our way to Maine and loved the campground so much we chose to stay again on our way back. Everything was clean and well maintained, staff was very friendly and helpful. The pup loved the dog park.

    Hueston Woods State Park Campground

    Great for anyone!

We love camping here! Whether it's tent camping, group camping, RV, cabin, or lodge accommodations they can fill all your needs. Very large park with playgrounds, fishing, swimming, creek access, dog park, archery practice area or walk over to the damn. The bathrooms could use a little better cleaning but all in all it's a great park! We come often and camp at least once a year! Highly recommended.

    Hueston Woods State Park Campground

    Amazing.

I’ve been camping here every summer since I was a child. There is always a lot to do for all age groups. They’ve also added in a dog park which is perfect for my fur babies! There’s plenty of trails for hiking and adventuring. Archery range, plenty of spots to fish and keep everyone occupied! Love this campground and will continue to come back for many years to come!

    Muncie RV Resort

Solid choice -- Near Mounds state park, city of Anderson, and I-69

I stayed with full hookups, but no cable (don't need it, so don't know if it's available) and we weren't close enough to connect to the WIFI (only close enough to occasionally see 1 bar pop up).

Friendly folks, catch and release fishing pond, and a pond with beach for swimming. Good size playground, jump pad, and off-leash"dog park" available as well.

On AT&T, I typically had 2 bars and no problem streaming music or browsing Facebook. My fellow travelers, on Sprint, said they had poor reception. I'm guessing 1 bar.

Worth noting that my wife said the water pressure in the shower house was fairly low. (I shower in the camper, so can't comment.) Water pressure was fine at our site, though. Also worth noting that many of the back-in sites can be pull-through if you get there when it's not busy.

    Lake Loramie State Park Campground

Perfect retreat for the family or solo adventure

Relax on the waters edge in shear tranquility. Perfect beach for swimming, excellent trails for hiking, and awesome lake to boat. Multiple launch ramps provide ease and convenience. Rent a canoe or kayak and head out for some time alone or with your favorite person. The cabins are heated but pets are not allowed. Campground is huge as are the sites. Some are premium, there’s a few ADA and some lakeside making for a great view to enjoy your morning coffee.

Lost Bridge West State Recreation Area Campgrounds — Salamonie Lake

    Lakeside Fun

The beach was clean and fun. Not very busy when we were there, which was nice. We stayed on Campsite 208. Nice size campsite, which good shade. The campsite did have a bigger than expected slope, but nothing horrible. Some campsite s looked amazing and others looked to be in major need of some TLC. Most of the campsites were in need of a fresh layer of gravel for their parking pads. The restrooms were clean, and the hot water was plentiful for my shower. It would have been nice if there were pet station placed around the campground to make it easy for dog walkers to rid themselves of their full poop bags and to provide folks a place to get poop bags if they forgot to bring some. Overall a great weekend.

Guide to Selma

Prairie Creek Reservoir offers camping sites on both north and south shores of the 1,275-acre lake with elevations around 950 feet above sea level. Water levels fluctuate seasonally, with summer drawdowns sometimes affecting shore access. The reservoir's proximity to the White River watershed creates diverse camping experiences between the more developed south shore and the primitive north shore options.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Prairie Creek Reservoir North Shore Campground provides excellent fishing access with affordable primitive camping options. "Primitive tent camping is more than affordable, and the fishing was AWESOME!! He had an amazing time. We've been back 5 times since then. It's a hidden gem for sure!" says Erik B. of Prairie Creek Reservoir.

Kayaking on calm waters: Summit Lake State Park Campground features a still lake perfect for paddling. "We like the still lake for kayaking. The spots along the lake are beautiful but hard to book," notes Casse T. The park offers equipment rentals for visitors without their own boats.

Historical exploration: Native American history can be explored at Mounds State Park Campground, which provides educational opportunities through trails and exhibits. "It has a lot of historical significance. Very nice trails. Awesome visitors center," states Keith P.

What campers like

Clean facilities: Prairie Creek Park maintains well-kept camping areas with good amenities. "Clean and friendly environment," says Brian M. The campground staff regularly maintains bathrooms and common areas throughout the camping season.

Affordable options: Both shore areas at Prairie Creek offer budget-friendly camping. "10/28/22. Campground is closing 10/31/22 for the winter. We stayed in the south shore campground (primitive sites and a handful of sheds/cabins), only here for the night. For $12.84 you really can't complain!" reports Adam O. about Prairie Creek Park.

Site variety: Summit Lake provides different camping experiences based on which loop you choose. "I hammock camp so I'm always looking for places that have trees and are pretty. When I arrived I was a little worried because the first loop was flat, grassy and open with very few trees in the camp spots good for hammocks. The second loop had what I was looking for. Stayed in 76, beautiful spot with lots of tree cover," explains Stephanie B.

What you should know

Seasonal considerations: Prairie Creek Reservoir typically closes for winter camping around October 31st. Water access points may become limited during dry periods in late summer.

Water access variables: Summit Lake campsites differ in proximity to shorelines. "Nice spots, fairly flat overall, definitely aim for spots by lake for most spacious and views. Fishing and kayaking is it. Hosts were great. Site did have decent slope front to back," advises Dirty E.

Limited hookup configurations: Some sites at Kamp Modoc have unique hookup layouts that require planning. "With anywhere you go, it is important to read the description and look at the pictures. I saw gravel RV sites, that's what I received. I read about a fee for using the premium amenities and I payed it," explains Hank S.

Tips for camping with families

Family-oriented activities: Kamp Modoc offers numerous organized events for children. "We went here Memorial Day weekend and had a great time even though it was chilly and rainy. The pond was great with the inflatables and water toys available for use. There were many activities put on by the campground," shares Amy H.

Kid-friendly water features: "Beach and swimming area with water inflatables, and area to fish if you enjoy fishing. Several activities for kids. Campground is well kept and managed for the most part," notes Margo B. about Kamp Modoc.

Playground access: Many campgrounds near Selma feature play areas for children. Westwood Park offers "a small playground area for the kids. Sites are a little small, but do provide shade," according to Kelly H.

Tips from RVers

Site leveling requirements: Many RV sites in the area require leveling equipment. "Our site was a pull through and, while level left to right, required a good bit of leveling front to back," explains Marshall P. about Summit Lake State Park Campground.

Utility placements: Be prepared for varied hookup configurations at Prairie Creek. "Sewer connection on one side and power on the other," notes Sandy O., highlighting the importance of bringing extension cords and hoses.

Pet friendly considerations: Most campgrounds near Selma, Indiana welcome pets with standard restrictions. "Pet friendly" is mentioned for Westwood Park, while Summit Lake State Park Campground is noted for being "a nice park for those who want to camp/hike/fish and not travel too far from home" by Dave E., making it convenient for pet owners wanting shorter travel times with animals.
