Pere Marquette State Park Campground near Jerseyville welcomes pets at all 88 campsites, offering spacious RV and tent camping areas with ample room between sites. The campground provides electric hookups, picnic tables, and fire rings at each pet-friendly site. Campsites have mature trees providing good shade, though some sites may not be perfectly level. Most pet owners appreciate the deep "backyards" at sites, perfect for dogs to relax while leashed. The park maintains clean, well-kept facilities including shower houses and restrooms. Camping rates are affordable at $20 per night for electric sites and $8 per night for non-electric tent sites. Hillbillie Ranch, formerly a pet-friendly option in the area, is no longer operating as a campground as it was recently purchased and converted to private property.

The surrounding area offers excellent pet-friendly hiking trails with gorgeous views of the Illinois River. The park features several trail options of varying difficulty, with some providing challenging terrain unusual for Illinois. Dogs must remain leashed on all trails. Grafton, just minutes away, provides pet-friendly dining options and services. St. Peters' 370 Lakeside Park, about 35 minutes south, offers additional pet-friendly camping with cabin options. During summer months, campers should monitor their pets for signs of overheating as temperatures can rise significantly. Most sites share water hookups, so bringing extra hose length is recommended when camping with pets that need regular water access. Wildlife is present in the area, so keeping dogs leashed and supervised is essential for both pet safety and wildlife protection.

Good location for exploring St. Louis

This campground is fairly close to downtown and very close to lots of shopping. A great place to stay to stock up on supplies before heading west. We stayed 2 nights to have a day to visit the Gateway Arch. The pool and playground seemed nice even though we didn’t use them. Nice dog park for smaller dogs. Several cabins are available along with RV sites. The tent sites are next to a river under large trees. Plenty of spaces for big rigs. Our site was no very level but nothing our auto-leveling couldn’t handle.

Nice, clean campground, level pull-through sites - ours had a paver-patio and grill, a lot of shade throughout, dog park, and a creek to explore. This was our 2nd time here. Close to Saint Louis, Six Flags, and hiking.

      Convenient to St. Charles

Easy off I-370, campground is new and large. It is on a lake with bike trails, kayak rental, and kids splash pad. Staff were helpful. I received about 5 pieces of paper when checking in. You need a code to get into the dog park. Shopping nearby. Used this as a base to visit historic St Charles.

LEDLENDSER MH10 and KOA Route 66 review

      Campground review:

Once googling local campsites at the last minute for a weekend getaway with both dogs, we came route 66 campground. They have a dog park, rv hookup sites, electric tent sites and primitive sites. We stayed at a primitive tent site with both dogs. Site t13, which unfortunately was one of the very few camp spots with zero trees so we're unable to use our hammock. (Most of the other sites had great trees for hammock setups). Other amenities on the campground included a heated pool, bike rentals, basketball courts, a country store for firewood, supplies, and gift shop. Needless to say this was not a "roughing" it type campground. For the dogs though, we were right across from the creek to take them down to play. Also, kids were catching crawdads! Great campsite that is pet friendly and very family friendly!

      Product review:

      Ledlenser mh10

This headlamp first of all comes with a 7 year warrantly(must register the product)! On top of that all these features: a rechargeable battery with a USB port. Rapid focus system with 2 tough button on headlamp to adjust lighting. The strap is very easy to adjust and fit to comfort, lightweight despise the battery pack attached to the headlamp. The lighting is phenomenal! You also get a green and red additional glass lense that you can screw into the front of your lense for any activity and not disturb others with a bright white light. Me, howsoever, I was able to on this camping trip, use the headlamp to continue to play a game of cornhole... and winter, might I add.. thanks to my headlamp for optimal vision;). Included are some pictures of how bright and fitting the headlamp is. I was highly impressed! Never once did it slip... which I have struggled with in many headlamps that it seems the lamp is too heavy and slowly makes its way down your forehead. The Ledlenser stays in place and is very comfortable! Also, doesn't leave that weird band line on your head... at least I didn't experience it like I have on others. Very impressed overall!

      Lots to do

There is lots to do at this park. There is a pool, bike rentals, dog park, movie night, basketball court, and more. You can bring your RV, travel trailer, tent camp, or stay in a cabin. Most of the sites are in the shade and are fairly level. The bathrooms were clean and well maintained. They have Ele/water and Ele/water/sewer sites. It is close to train tracks, but I only heard the train once at night. It’s close to Six Flags, shopping, and restaurants. They even have a cute caboose cabin you can stay in.

      St. Peters' 370 Lakeside Park

      Really nice overnight stay

We spent one night here (May 11, 2022). This is a very nice easy access CG with wide, spacious, and level pull through and back-in gravel sites (25 paved). There are a lot of activities available: archery, boating, fishing, dog park, biking (wish I brought my mtn bike), walking, playground, horseshoes and volleyball. We did not have time to visit the clubhouse and did not make use of the bathrooms or showers. It is a great base camp to visit the area. The WiFi was great as was cell phone reception. We would definitely stay here again.

    Guide to Jerseyville

Pere Marquette State Park Campground offers exceptional hiking terrain unusual for Illinois, with varied trail difficulty levels and scenic lookouts over the Illinois River. The campground maintains 88 sites, including both electric ($20/night) and non-electric tent sites ($8/night). Located near Grafton, the park serves as a central base for exploring the region while providing spacious sites with mature tree cover. Wildlife viewing opportunities are abundant, particularly during winter months when bald eagles frequent the area where the Illinois and Mississippi Rivers meet.

    What to do

Eagle watching in winter: Pere Marquette State Park becomes a prime eagle-watching destination during colder months. "In winter there are a lot of eagles feeding in the Illinois and Mississippi Rivers which meet at the park. The Lewis & Clark expedition started nearby," notes Joel R. who visited Pere Marquette State Park Campground.

Explore historic St. Charles: Just a short drive from Jerseyville camping areas, St. Charles offers restored historic buildings and riverside attractions. "St. Charles just minutes away provides pet-friendly dining options with a casino past that. Beautiful historic town with plenty to see and do," writes Fred R. after staying at Sundermeier RV Park.

Kayak and canoe rental: Multiple parks in the region offer water recreation opportunities with equipment available on-site. "This is a great place to kayak and camp if you don't want to drive that fare and live in the city," explains Lindsey C. about St. Peters' 370 Lakeside Park, which is approximately 35 minutes from Jerseyville.

    What campers like

Historic lodge facilities: The lodge at Pere Marquette offers additional amenities beyond camping. "Pere Marquette has many options for your stay... The Lodge has great character and a wonderful great room. There is a restaurant inside the main building with decent food. I prefer to stay in a cabin room which sleeps 4-6 and affords you more privacy," shares Shawn M.

Morning meals: Several campgrounds feature notable breakfast options. "The lodge located next door serves a wonderful breakfast," mentions Jennifer B. about Pere Marquette, while Joel R. adds, "The bonus is the fried chicken...the lodge has one of the best fried chicken dinners around on Sunday."

Trail variety: Cuivre River State Park Campground offers multiple trail options within an hour's drive of Jerseyville. "Great well maintained state park right outside of St. Louis. Park has an awesome trail system around the lake, and it looks like you can rent canoes/kayaks in the summer," reports Kyle R., highlighting the recreational diversity.

    What you should know

Terrain variations: Campsites throughout the region have varying levels of ground quality. "The campground has 88 sites total...They are either 30 amp or 50 amp electric sites. These are the class A sites $20 a night, they also have about 15 Class C sites for tents with no electric for $8 a night," explains Michael M. about Pere Marquette, adding details about ongoing improvements.

Train and airport noise: Some campgrounds near Jerseyville experience periodic noise disruptions. "You are on Lambert international airports flight path, next to a major train trestle, right next to Highway 370. Very industrial around the park," warns Jack G. about one location, while Richard H. notes about Draft Kings at Casino Queen RV Park: "There is train noise but we couldn't hear it with the air conditioners running."

Seasonal closures and flooding: Water levels affect accessibility at certain parks. "It was out of commission for most of the summer of 2019 as the entire area was flooded. But the City of St Peters did a great job getting this place back to usable with new sod, a new bathhouse, and some general sprucing up," explains Annie C.

    Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Several campgrounds feature kid-friendly recreation areas. "Kids had a blast riding bikes. Even finding a few little frogs jumping around and fireflies at night," shares Joseph F. about his family's experience at St. Peters' 370 Lakeside Park, which offers various rental options for families.

Budget-friendly activities: McCully Heritage Project provides affordable camping with amenities for children. "I just love the bridge across the pond. We had a picnic and the kids got to play on the playground equipment," mentions Leo S. about this inexpensive option costing just $10 per night.

Wildlife viewing opportunities: Keep children engaged with nature observation activities. "We saw bunnies hopping around and when we first arrived to our site a deer was grazing nearby, such a bonus!" reports Maria E. from Cuivre River State Park, highlighting the accessible wildlife viewing potential for families.

    Tips from RVers

Hookup configurations: Pay attention to utility placement when setting up. "Utilities are set up weird on all sites - Water and electric are at the very rear of the site by the sewer, so you will need a decent sized hose to reach if your water intake is in the front of your camper," advises Josh F. after staying at Draft Kings at Casino Queen RV Park.

Water pressure variations: Be prepared for different water systems across campgrounds. "30 pound water pressure. Nice level concrete pad with a picnic table," notes Ernest G. about St. Peters' 370 Lakeside Park, providing specific infrastructure details relevant to RVers.

Dump station availability: When seeking pet-friendly camping near Jerseyville, Illinois, verify waste disposal options. "Electric only 20, 30 and 50amp. No water in campground that is potable must bring own. But there is a dump station. Lakeside is down the road to fill up," explains Matthew H. from Riverside Landing.
