    Riverview Campground

    Beautiful Views

Riverview campground is a clean, quiet, family friendly campground. It overlooks the Ohio River and provides amazing views at sunset. The stargazing is also great. There are 30 amp and 50 amp sites with water, and a dump station is on site. Firewood is also provided. This was the perfect place to spend the weekend!

    Eddy Creek Marina Resort

    A Resort RV park

Eddy creek RV park is very well kept, clean, and somewhat secluded on Lake Barkley. Only open from April through Oct, the RV camp area is behind a code locked gate, which helps to keep the park private. There is a dump station, laundry facility, bath house , propane available and Echo Charlie's restaurant that serves typical American food that includes large servings!  I didn't see any tent sites, only RV sites, most with newer looking decks, level sites, electric and water hookup to each site.  The beach is private, the pool is private, everything is within walking distance, but most people were using golf carts, as it is a good distance from the RV area to the restaurant or the pool.  Bicycling would also be ideal, most areas are paved or at least compacted gravel.

Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park

    Old and small

The sites are very small but spread out. Our 35 ft class a barely fit. They do show length limits for sites and they definitely max limit. There is electric (30 amp) and water at the site but it was 75 ft from my sites. Extensions are needed. The staff is friendly and the roads are paved but there are signs directing where to go. Great bathrooms and plentiful. Also coin operated laundry. Fairly close to the freeway.

    Hillman Ferry Campground

    Clean and Rustic

The best part of this campground is the beautiful rustic old timey feel. There are updated modern bathhouses dispersed throughout. The camp store is well stocked. There is a very nice boat ramp and several boat parking areas. “T” area is our favorite with full hookups and beautiful pine trees. A premier and amazing mountain bike trail system is accessible directly from campground!! The Canal Loop Trail and North South Trails are well known and revered by area mountain bikers and hikers. No WiFi or internet service. Cell signal in prior years have been spotty. Very family friendly and lots of kids riding bikes and playing everywhere!

    Canal Campground- Lake Barkley COE

    And then some.....

Canal Recreation Area is right by Grand Rivers, Ky and Patti's Settlement. That right there is enough said as far as outdoor activities go. Then you have Canal Rec Area that just adds too the vacation.

Book early because the best sites stay full, but really they are all pretty good sites. The different areas cover just about anything you are looking for in a site from big rig pull through sites, tiered tent sites, water and beach access sites and boat ramp sites.

There is a trail within the campground to walk, a day use area, newer showerhouse/laundry facilities and dump stations. The area is large enough to jog, bike and golf cart. If your not interested in the nearby entertainment there is enough to do right on site to keep you occupied for your entire vacation be it a day or a week+

    Indian Point RV Park

    Overnight only

The campground sits on three level overlooking Lake Barkly. There are only 5 pull-thru sites with full hookups on wide open ground, no shade. There are 16 water and electric sites. The 150+ sites are long term rental properties. There is a swimming pool, play ground, boat ramp, and game room. Dump site at entrance. More a retirement community than a RV camp.

What to do

Fishing access points: The boat ramp at Indian Point RV Park provides direct lake access for anglers visiting Lake Barkley. "There is a swimming pool, play ground, boat ramp, and game room," notes one visitor, though they caution the campground functions "more as a retirement community than an RV camp."

Water recreation: Families with children can take advantage of water-based activities at Venture River RV park, which sits adjacent to a water park. A visitor comments, "We would stay here again and bring the cousins to play at the water park," highlighting the convenient proximity for water-based entertainment.

Wildlife viewing: The riverside camping areas offer excellent opportunities for observing river traffic and wildlife. At Birdsville Riverside RV Park, campers report regular wildlife sightings. "We enjoyed the lake view from our site plus we saw deer and eagles in the CG during our overnight stay," mentions one reviewer who appreciated the natural setting.

What campers like

Spacious waterfront sites: Many RV parks in the Herod region offer direct water views. At Birdsville Resort and Campground, campers appreciate the riverfront access. "Nice shaded lot on the Ohio river. Right after getting set up, we got to see a big barge go by," shares one reviewer who enjoyed the riparian setting.

Clean facilities: Well-maintained restrooms and common areas rank high in camper satisfaction. At Outback RV Resort, visitors consistently mention the cleanliness: "Showers and bathrooms immaculate. We will definitely stop again in the future," notes one camper, while another states, "From the extremely gracious and kind owners & staff, to the super friendly and inclusive campers... to the super clean facilities - literally can't say a bad thing about them."

Family activities: Several campgrounds organize seasonal events. At Cypress Lakes RV Park, reviewers mention the recreational options: "Has a little Lake in it to fish. Not far off the interstate makes it handy," and "Very nice campground. There is a small lake to fish in. Nice play ground for the kids. Also has many activities for the kids."

What you should know

Seasonal operations: Most RV parks around Herod operate primarily from spring through fall. Birdsville Riverside RV Park runs from "March 1 to November 30," while Indian Point RV Park operates "April 1 to November 1." Only a handful of facilities remain open year-round.

Permanent resident ratio: Many campgrounds maintain a mix of transient and long-term sites. One visitor to Indian Point RV Park explains: "This campground is really designed for the seasonal camper who wants to park their RV and go back and forth on the weekends. There is very limited spaces for the 'transient' or traditional RV."

Highway noise levels: Some parks situated near interstate highways experience traffic noise. Paducah RV Park & Campground offers "Quick full hook up pull through, with Great sky views, country feel and a common outdoor area near lake," but its proximity to I-24 means some traffic noise, though one reviewer notes it as simply "Convenient to I-24."

Tips for camping with families

Pool alternatives: When temperatures rise in summer months, seek campgrounds with swimming options. One visitor to Cypress Lakes RV Park mentions that "Kids enjoyed the playground and the reservoir is really beautiful. We wish the pool had been open...it's still in the process of a renovation. Shaved ice was a nice consolation prize for the kids after the promised pool was a bust."

Playground facilities: Several campgrounds offer play equipment for children. Outback RV Resort provides "play equipment for kids and a pool," making it suitable for families looking to entertain younger campers during their stay.

Local attractions: Consider campgrounds near additional activities. Birmingham Point Campground features "a nice swimming beach and beautiful views," while another camper notes, "This is a nice campground for RV camping, especially if boating and fishing are your interest."

Tips from RVers

Site selection: At Birmingham Point Campground, careful site selection helps maximize the experience. "We did not have any trouble getting reservations to include getting site 25 that we'd seen recommended in reviews," shares one RVer, though they caution: "We would not recommend trying to anything longer than a 38' rig into the site due to the turn to get out."

Leveling requirements: Terrain at many campgrounds requires leveling equipment. At Birmingham Point, one camper notes: "We needed levelers on the door side," indicating the sites aren't perfectly flat.

Utility placement: Shared utilities can impact site orientation. At Birdsville Resort and Campground, a visitor explains: "Sites alternated pull in and back in sharing water and electric pedestals. Lots of space on door side of TT," while another mentions that "the odd number sites are back in, even numbers are pull in (or if you had cords and hoses long enough you could also back in knowing that you'd have to go under your camper to hookup)."
