Best RV Parks & Resorts near Ponderay, ID

Several RV parks near Ponderay, Idaho provide full-service accommodations for motorhome travelers. City of Sandpoint's City Beach RV Park offers 21 sites with electric hookups including 30-amp and 50-amp service, along with water connections, though no sewer hookups are available on-site. Blue Lake RV Resort in Naples, approximately 30 miles north of Ponderay, operates from March through December with big-rig friendly sites and full hookups. "Sites are back in only and accommodated our 26' travel trailer well. Site included enough space for a tow vehicle and one other vehicle. All nicely and newly paved," noted one camper about nearby campground options. Travel America RV Park in Sagle features year-round accessibility with water, sewer, and electrical connections, specifically catering to larger recreational vehicles with designated pull-through sites.

Seasonal considerations significantly impact RV camping availability in the region. The Bonner County Fairgrounds campground remains open until October 31st, offering electric and water hookups with a dump station nearby for $25 per night. Cell service varies throughout the area, with stronger connectivity at parks closer to Coeur d'Alene and Sandpoint. Many parks require advance reservations, particularly during summer months when Silverwood Theme Park attracts numerous visitors. Most RV parks in the region are pet-friendly but enforce leash requirements. Road access to RV parks can present challenges, with one visitor recommending: "If you are coming off of interstate 90, don't use exit 13. The roundabout is way too small to handle big rigs or any camper. The best route is exit 12, big rig friendly."

    Liberty Lake RV Campground

Looks like a parking lot with RVs

This is a newer RV park in Liberty Lake. They have only been open 2 years. Liberty Lake is between Spokane, WA and Coeur d’Alene ID. There are about 130 spaces or so, with concrete pads and paved streets. There is grass between sites, but they are much too close to be comfortable, and there is no shade! And, the rules!!! Lots more rules than most other camping areas.’ It also appears many of the residents are semi-permanent. They have free cable snd wifi, a dog park, playground, swimming pool, laundry, and dump station. The sites are 30/50 amp, most are pull through but the outer ring is back in. They also have propane. They are on the pricy side: an outside loop 50 ft. Site is $74/night. Good Sam gets you a 10% discount. It is easy access to I-90 both East and west.

    Blackwell Island RV Park

    Waterfront RV campground

    9/14 to 9/17/19

    Blackwell Island RV Resort

    Coeur d'alene Idaho

Close to interstate, located next to Spokane River and lake. Boat and kayak rentals. Sites are gravel, level, both pull throughs and back ins available, FHU, no privacy between sites. Some nice water front sites. Chairs in place to enjoy the small beach. Nice volleyball and play area. Small BMX course was fun. Cute landscaping near water, small trees within the campground. Picnic tables, no wood fires allowed. No tents of any kind. Very limited store at the office. Town very close with stores and restaurants. Nice restaurant a short distance at the Marina called Cedars. Great private bathroom/with shower. Nice laundry facilities. Free cable and spotty wifi. Moose too!

    Kootenai County Fairgrounds RV Park

It's one of the nicest fairground rv parks.

It's one of the nicest fairground rv park I have been to. This place was very well kept and very friendly campground host. This place is big rig friendly. I stayed in a 45 class A motorhome with a tow vehicle. I had no problem with the access to the rv park. If you are coming off of interstate 90, don't use exit 13. The round about is way to small to handle big rig or any camper. The best route is exit 12 big rig friendly. The price is very reasonable for this area. No shade.

    Thousand Trails Little Diamond

    Little Diamond Newport Washington

We spent a week here and loved it. It is so quiet and peaceful. The sites share electric and water, no sewer and are positioned oddly they are on the off side and in front by the road. Some 30and 50 amp just check the box. The sites are gravel, some what level and size/length varies, a few pull throughs, our 37ft 5ver had no problem. Bathroom showers are ok. Laundry is good. There is a small lake free fishing, didn’t fish. We stayed in the Thousand Trails side, it is a split park with KOA on the other side. Two dump stations, nice lodge/ spa and pool open. AT&T and Sprint were very good. At our site 144

    Sedlmayer's Resort & Campground

A great quiet campground on the lake front.

My wife accidentally came across this private campground, which turned into a great stay. Located in northern Idaho and right on Spirit Lake, this campground has 31 RV sites that can accommodate various sizes of RVs. Every site has 20, 30& 50 amp electrical service however, only sites 1 through 21 have sewer. If you need a pull-through site, then go with #14 through#19, or#21.

The campground has a lakeside restaurant, boat slips for campers, and a small general store. The area was well maintained and clean. There are numerous mature cedar trees providing shade and privacy throughout the campground. My only complaint is that only 5 fire pits are located throughout the campground. This campground seems to be a local known quiet gem worth checking out for family fun.

    Bonner County Fairgrounds

Five-Star Review for Bonner County Fairground Campground

My recent stay at the campground at Bonner County Fairground in Pondray, ID was absolutely phenomenal!

We had such a wonderful experience from start to finish and we can't recommend this campground enough. First and foremost, the campground is incredibly well-maintained and clean. The facilities are top-notch and it's evident that the staff takes great pride in keeping everything in excellent condition.

The campground itself is spacious and well-designed, offering plenty of room for RVs and other camping setups. They do not allow tents at this park. The campsites were level and provided ample space for my RV, as well as a picnic table. We particularly enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere of the campground, with beautiful views of the surrounding nature. What truly sets this campground apart is its convenient location. Being situated at the Bonner County Fairground, we had the opportunity to explore the fairgrounds and attend any events or activities that happened to be taking place during our stay.

Moreover, the campground is ideally situated to explore the breathtaking natural beauty of Pondray and the surrounding area. I took full advantage of the numerous hiking and biking trails nearby, immersing myself in the stunning landscapes and fresh mountain air. The picturesque scenery and abundant wildlife made every outdoor adventure truly unforgettable.

Another aspect that impressed me was the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff.

They were always available to answer any questions, provide recommendations for local attractions and dining options, and ensure that my stay was as enjoyable as possible. In terms of amenities, the campground had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The electrical hookups were reliable, and the availability of potable water and dump stations made it easy to manage my RV's needs.

Lastly, I must mention the incredible local attractions in the Pondray area. From the nearby Lake Pend Oreille, perfect for boating, fishing, and swimming, to the charming town with its unique shops and restaurants, there was always something exciting to explore. We also had the opportunity to visit nearby national forests and parks, immersing myself in nature and taking in the breathtaking vistas.

    Kootenai County Fairgrounds RV Park

    Kootenai County Fairgrounds RV Park

We were very pleased with this RV park! We stayed for two nights so my wife could attend a conference. This facility is located very near the general Fairgrounds and next to the horse park. No horses are allowed at the campground but stables are very near by in the Fairgrounds. The sites are all pretty level with the parking areas paved. Grass and groomed gravel areas too. There are various sized sites most are back in. When checking online, and that's where you must reserve your site, there is a very good map with the site lengths listed. Our number 1 site was over 60 feet long and large for our 34 foot long 5th wheel and our Chevy truck. Most of the sites are full hookup with 30 and 50 amp electric. Water and sewer dump. There is also a sewer dump station with 4 dumps, located just west of this park. There is NO wifi provided in the park, but being pretty centralized in the area, cell service is very good. I had full bars of 4G service on my AT&T 5G phone. There is a building with bathroom and showers available if needed, at the south end of the park. Our site was just along the road and it was pretty noisy but it did calm down at night. Dogs are allowed but must be leashed and picked up after. For a Fairgrounds campground it is a bit pricey compared to the other Fairground Camping we've utilized, this is still a very nice facility and we would and probably will use it again.

    Liberty Lake RV Campground

    Nice RV Park

Park is new and well maintained. Roads are paved and easy access in and out. Sites are concrete pads with a picnic table also on concrete. While sites are close, they are spaced well enough that you don’t have to worry with hitting your neighbor with your awning or having to play Tetris with your slides. The prior review about it being a couple miles from I-90 is probably for the county park at the actual lake. This park is right on the side of I-90, so road noise 24 hours a day along with the train and industrial buildings on each side. So if you are looking peace and quiet, this isn’t it. It is a nice spot for working in the area though and is nicer than the other choices near by. Staff is friendly and are on the ball with keeping the grounds clean and offer a smile and wave. Amenities include a playground, basketball court, dog park, clubhouse, pool and bathhouse. All are nice. The downside are the prices and policies. There are no refunds. So if you put a deposit down and your plans change, they will only give you a credit for a year. The monthly rates are not bad, but electric is separate. There are no weekly rates, so if you just need a week or two it’s either pay the $80 daily rate or pay a month for a week. There is also a $100 deposit on the heat tape during winter on the spigot. If you don’t want to pay it then you have to call them to unlock the water to fill your tank. Even though the tape is on it regardless, so doesn’t make any sense. Wifi is useable for basic internet use. AT&T service is great though.

Guide to Ponderay

RV camping near Ponderay, Idaho puts visitors close to Lake Pend Oreille, with access to more than 111 miles of shoreline. Located at 2,064 feet elevation, the area features mature pine forests and rolling terrain typical of northern Idaho's Panhandle region. Camping options around Ponderay operate in various seasons, with some facilities closing by late October due to freezing temperatures common during winter months.

What to do

Water recreation activities on Lake Pend Oreille: Visitors to Blackwell Island RV Park can access waterfront activities within steps of their campsite. "We took our paddle boards out and it was great!" reports one camper. The park offers kayak, speedboat and pontoon boat rentals from the front office for guests wanting to explore the Spokane River.

Biking trails and paths: Sandpoint City Beach RV Park provides convenient access to local bike trails. "There is a bikepath that follows the river. Very beautiful," notes a visitor. These paths connect the campground to downtown Sandpoint, allowing campers to explore without moving their vehicle.

Swimming areas for hot days: Blue Lake RV Resort offers a small lake with swimming access and water recreation equipment. "They have paddle boats, kayaks, paddle boards and a floating trampoline. The little lake is full of catfish and turtles that you can feed," describes one camper who appreciates the water activities available directly at the campground.

What campers like

Proximity to town amenities: City of Sandpoint, City Beach RV Park receives high marks for its location. "The best part of this campground is that it is located inside the Sandpoint City Beach Park which is within a short walk to the very cute downtown of Sandpoint," writes one camper. Visitors appreciate access to "shopping, good food, including an amazing vegan restaurant, downtown. Breweries."

Clean facilities: Kootenai County Fairgrounds RV Park maintains well-kept bathrooms and shower facilities. "Extremely clean, looks very new, and lots of space between sights," notes one visitor. Another mentions, "Bathrooms and shower house are open. Free WiFi added in 2023."

At Blue Lake RV Resort, a visitor notes, "I got to do yoga by the lake at sunrise, not too buggy and I saw lots of turtles."

What you should know

Train noise impacts multiple campgrounds: Several campgrounds in the area experience railroad disruption. At City of Sandpoint City Beach RV Park, a visitor warns: "A train does run right beside the park. Bring earplugs." Similarly, at Blue Lake RV Resort: "One of the major downsides was the campsite's unfortunate location between two railway lines. The constant sound of freight trains passing by throughout the day was quite disruptive."

Seasonal closures and availability: Many campgrounds in the region operate on limited schedules. Silverwood RV Park operates from "May 7 to October 31," while Blackwell Island RV Park runs from "Apr 1 - Oct 15." Winter camping options become significantly limited after October.

Cell coverage varies significantly: Mobile service is inconsistent throughout the region. Kootenai County Fairgrounds RV Park offers "fast, reliable wifi" and "great service for Verizon," but coverage deteriorates in more remote locations further from Sandpoint and Coeur d'Alene.

Tips for camping with families

Theme park proximity: Silverwood RV Park provides immediate access to Silverwood Theme Park. "The best thing about the campsite is that it is the closet place to stay near Silverwood theme park. You can easily walk from your tent right into the park, which makes it super convenient," notes one visitor. A tunnel connects the campground directly to the park entrance.

Kid-friendly water features: Blue Lake RV Resort offers family activities centered around their small lake. "The floating trampoline" and paddle equipment rentals keep children entertained. One parent observed, "My boys are ready to return and so am I. It's just one of those peaceful places that I don't think very many know about."

Playground access: Several campgrounds feature play areas for children. At Blackwell Island RV Park, "a kids BMX dirt bike area, secret gardens, walking nature paths and a pond with their own resident ducks" provide entertainment options beyond standard camping activities.

Tips from RVers

Big rig access routes: When traveling to Kootenai County Fairgrounds RV Park with larger rigs, route selection matters. "If you are coming off of interstate 90, don't use exit 13. The round about is way to small to handle big rig or any camper. The best route is exit 12 big rig friendly," advises an experienced RVer who traveled with a 45-foot class A motorhome plus tow vehicle.

Site configuration: At Travel America RV Park, campers report "very nice lots. Lots of grass and trees" with year-round accessibility for recreational vehicles. The park specifically caters to larger rigs with designated pull-through sites offering full hookups.

Limited space at some parks: Tamarack RV Park offers convenience but with space limitations. "Spaces are too tight - we would be on top of our neighbor's sewer," notes one RVer. Another comments that "sites are close together," though they appreciated the "very level spot and no street noise."
