Snake River RV Park's pet-friendly campground welcomes dogs throughout the property with multiple grassy areas for pet exercise. The park offers full hookup sites for RVs along with tent camping options and rental cabins that accommodate pets. Jefferson County Lake and South Tourist Park Campground maintain similar pet-friendly policies, requiring pets to be leashed when outside RVs or tents. Idaho Falls Luxury RV Park provides concrete pads with green grass areas at each site where pets can rest beside their owners. Most campgrounds in the area do not charge additional pet fees but limit pets to 2-3 per site. Campers note the convenience of grassy walking areas along site edges for quick pet relief.

Twin Bridges Park offers access to riverside trails suitable for dog walking, with connections to Idaho Falls' greenbelt system. The Snake River provides water access at several campgrounds, though dogs must remain leashed when approaching shorelines. Multiple RV parks include designated pet waste stations throughout their grounds. South Tourist Park's location along the Snake River provides a scenic backdrop for morning and evening dog walks on paved pathways. Campers should be aware of train noise at several locations, particularly Idaho Falls Luxury RV Park, which provides earplugs for light-sleeping humans and potentially noise-sensitive pets. Local wildlife includes waterfowl along the river, requiring pet owners to maintain control of dogs around these areas. Nearby veterinary services can be found within a 10-minute drive of most campgrounds.

      City of Blackfoot RV Park

Simple spot to stay in Blackfoot

This is for RV parking with electrical hookups for 20 bucks at the airport. 18 hookups and awesome dog park. Also a bike ride away from a very nice park on the lake with lots of play space for kids during the day. No toilets or showers but a simple stay and there is Wal-Mart everything else you need right in town. Blackfoot Wal-Mart does not allow overnight parking. There is water hookup during season. Also free dump station at fire station.

      Pocatello KOA

      Good for a quick stay

Campsites are a little close with no privacy and there are no sewer connections at the individual sites. There are two dump sites on the backside of the store. Pretty much gravel throughout with some grass at the smaller sites. Amenities: kids playground area with grass, a small fenced dog park, horseshoes, picnic table at each site (no fire pits at the pull through sites). Inside the store: pool table, table tennis, and a foosball table. Overall a good clean campsite to hold you over for a day or two.

      Pocatello KOA

      Journey KOA

This KOA has mature trees and gravel rv pads. The sites are mostly level, but may need one block to be completely level. All the sites seem to fill up every night. (Mid-end of May). It’s down in a slight valley so the wind does not hit the campground as hard. The dog park is fairly small, but allows your furry friend to get off of their leash and stretch their legs. The bathrooms are decent- however one of the showers does not lock, and one of the toilet stalls does not either. Campground internet has been sufficient throughout our week. Would stay here again on our way to and from destinations.

      Sugar City RV Park

      Sugar City RV

Very nice "state of the art" RV Park. Clean showers, nice clothes wash facilities, dog friendly with fenced run area, cat approved by "Liza", just in her trailer trash tabby space. Great access to Tetons and Yellowstone, good shopping overall in Sugar City and nearby Rexburg. But ! It's not boondocking or cheap, so we'll live with it for our Yellowstone and Teton visit

      Alpine North Loop Campground

      Small & Clean

Host is amazing! Campgrounds are good sizes and accommodates Travel trailers and fifth wheels. Does have group camping. No water hookup, no electricity and no showers. There is noises from the vehicles on the road nearby. It is close to the roads. Pet friendly.

      Snake River Alpine Dispersed Camping

      Fun Place to Camp

Beautiful place to camp. The water is shallow and surrounded by mountains. You have to wade through mud to get to the water (which is also muddy). You can also still hear the highway traffic, but not bad. We visited in August, so the fires made the area hazy. The up sides: lots of space and privacy. Camp sites are super far apart in comparison to others. Fire pits are available and drift wood is everywhere. Some spots have trees for hammocks. Pet friendly and lots of bird watching.

      Darby Canyon Dispersed

      Darby

I have not personally spent the night camping here, but I do work for the Forest Service and wanted to give more information about the Darby Canyon dispersed camping sites. I also had a friend stay here for three nights last September and they had a good time. There are about 10~ sites (I will check and edit when I can) all along the canyon road, some are just right off road and others require a short drive down beaten paths to find the sites. All of these sites (except 2 or so very close to the road) are past the cattle guard. Depending on the time of year, many of these sites may not be accessible. Snow typically stays in the canyon until mid-June and starts collecting in October. The area may also be buggy at the height of the summer (July 2024 had been atrocious). There is limited cell service down most of the road and it completely disappears the closer to the Wind Cave trailhead you get. This area has a 14 day stay limit, meaning that once 14 days (13 nights) have been reached you must move at least 5 miles away to continue camping on forest service land and cannot return to this canyon to camp for 30 days. This is in a bear food storage enforced area and any bear attractants (food, pet food, soaps, sunscreen, etc.) are required to be stored properly in a locked hard sided vehicle or other bear resistant containers. Fires are allowed but must be put out dead (cold to the touch) before leaving a campsite. This canyon is regularly patrolled by Forest Service staff and ranger law enforcement officers, especially on the weekends, to keep up with the food storage and fires out dead orders. Hope this helps weary travelers that are deterred by low-rated reviews.

      Palisades Reservoir

      One reservoir, many options

Ultimate lake camping; bring your boat for wakeboarding, tubing, or just relaxing. Even human powered vehicles can be enjoyed; especially close to shore. So much to explore! There are so many places to get out and camp, many of these dispersed camping areas include vault toilets at the entrances, although not much else besides a boat ramp. Some of them are better than others, so be sure to check it out before launching your boat. The ground near the reservoir can get very silty and muddy if there has been recent wet weather, you risk getting your vehicle stuck if you back in too far. Even the dirt roads can get that way - but pay attention and you'll be fine. There were several toy haulers and RVs that made it in and made it out without incident; my group managed to get in and out ok too.

In late May, it still gets cold at night yet there are mosquitos in this marshy area. They're not too bad, but if you're sensitive to the bites be prepared. I was fine in long sleeves and pants, they mostly left me alone. Fires are allowed most of the time, unless there is a red flag warning. Its your responsibility to know what isn't allowed, there are typically signs posted at the entrances if there are restrictions. Pets are fine too. I think the camping limit was 14 days, but that may have been at the site we chose. Others may be less.

We stayed at one of very many sites along the reservoir. With 70 miles of shoreline, you're bound to have your own unique experience.

      Jolley Camper RV & Cottages

Pleasant Family-Owned Campground for Stopover or Basecamp

Context: this is not an RV resort nor a wilderness experience.  It is a pleasant, scenic, rural highway-side campground.  We stayed in early May en route from Bozeman to Moab.  Small pleasant campground near the highway between Yellowstone and SE Idaho sights and Jackson Wyoming.  Small cottonwood shaded sites adjacent to farmland and Teton views.  Clean bathrooms with warm comfortable showers.  The campground is ideal for a stopover or basecamp for visiting the west-side of the Tetons, Craters of the Moon, and other sights in SE Idaho (or passing through on trips between the Greater Yellowstone Region and Utah).  Hookups, wifi, 5G Verizon service.  Only drawbacks, are possible wind and some highway noise.  The owners, living on-site in a beautiful farmhouse, are friendly and accommodating.  It is a trusting handshake type of reservation, payment, and communication system (cash or credit card on site).

UPDATE: as of 2023, online reservation system and payment.  Easy to use.

    Guide to Ammon

Campgrounds near Ammon, Idaho offer diverse camping experiences throughout all seasons. The area sits at approximately 4,700 feet elevation in the Snake River Plain, characterized by high desert terrain with nearby access to the Snake River. Winter temperatures can drop below freezing while summer days often reach 90°F with cooler evenings that can require extra layers even in July and August.

    What to Do

Snake River exploration: Twin Bridges Park provides direct access to the Snake River for fishing and wildlife viewing. "Twin Bridges is a dry camp... Sits next to the river so you can fish if you like, some times you'll see deer and even moose," notes reviewer Tony C.

Swimming in natural water: Jefferson County Lake offers clean swimming opportunities with family-friendly features. "The lake is actually an aquafer (underground spring) so it's super clear and clean unlike most lakes. One side of the lake has a beach and my kids and I swam in the lake and they especially loved the big slide in the middle of the lake," shares Steveandshauna H.

Hiking interconnected trails: Explore the greenbelt system connected to various campgrounds. "South Tourist Park's location along the Snake River provides a scenic backdrop for morning and evening walks on paved pathways," with multiple access points allowing for varied route lengths depending on your fitness level.

    What Campers Like

Clean, modern bathroom facilities: Idaho Falls Luxury RV Park receives consistently high marks for exceptional bathrooms. "The bathrooms were extremely clean and the showers were huge, with hot water that lasted for a long time," according to Brian C., who appreciated these facilities during an extended stay.

Well-maintained grounds: Campers frequently mention the care put into maintaining green spaces. "Clean and paved. Only complaint is super loud railroad tracks, but they give you ear plugs lol," notes Leah, highlighting how the park addresses potential issues.

Easy river access: South Tourist Park Campground offers convenient water access that campers appreciate. "This was a great little stop over Campground. Picnic tables, bbq, and fire pits at each site. A few sites are right along the water and we were lucky enough to snag one - beautiful sunset on the water," writes Lisa.

    What You Should Know

Train noise considerations: Several campgrounds near Ammon experience railroad noise that may affect light sleepers. "The only issue we had was the mowing service was out and about at 6:30am. Luckily we're early risers, but we just thought it was a little strange," notes Jamie C. at South Tourist Park Campground.

Seasonal availability varies: Many campgrounds have limited operations. "Juniper Group Campsite operates from May to October 1st, with most amenities unavailable during winter months," according to park information.

Limited hookup options at some parks: Juniper Park Ririe Reservoir offers variable hookup options. "$25 for full hookups, $20 to dry camp. Gets very dark at night. Seems like it fills completely full on weekends, but is quiet in the week," explains Michelle J.

    Tips for Camping with Families

Kid-friendly water features: Jefferson County Lake provides excellent family swimming opportunities. "Our family stayed here in a tent trailer for 2 nights. Kids loved playing in the lake. I like the paved trail that goes around the lake for jogging and cycling," shares Nick G.

Playground access: Snake River RV Park includes playground facilities for children. "The park for the kids was perfect and the pool was open too! Beautiful grounds and close to everything in town," Katie H. mentions.

Budget-friendly camping options: For families watching expenses, Twin Bridges Park offers economical options. "Not a fancy campground. But I like going there, it is by the river and has some nice shady camp site. It is only $10 a night," notes Tony C.

    Tips from RVers

Site leveling requirements: Be prepared for uneven terrain at some dog-friendly campgrounds near Ammon. "Bring your blocks. Very nice quiet & clean campground. We'll kept grassy area for dogs. The host was quick to respond & helpful with any issue. Some sites are a little uneven," advises Melanie T. about camping at Juniper Campground.

Concrete pad availability: Juniper Group Campsite offers well-designed RV sites. "Sites are paved, bathrooms are a private toilet, shower, sink combo that are super clean. Full hook-ups are $30 per night. Loop A has to be reserved on line but I was able to reserve at the campground after picking my site. Well-spaced sites, mostly level. Very quiet," reports amy B.

Water and electrical connections: Most campgrounds provide standard hookups, but quality varies. "Very nice and quiet RV Park. Nice change with all the grass around the asphalt site pads. There is access to a walkway along the Snake river that heads to downtown. Concrete patio with very new, clean and comfortable picnic tables," shares Patrick J. about Idaho Falls Luxury RV Park.
