The Toccoa Falls area features several RV parks with varied amenities. Currahee RV Park provides concrete pads suitable for large motorhomes with full hookups including 50-amp electric, water, and sewer connections. Toccoa RV Park maintains 28 year-round sites with both 30-amp and 50-amp service, water, sewer, and sanitary dump station access. Three miles from Toccoa Falls College, Willow Valley RV Resort accommodates big rigs across 81 sites with full hookups. Sites at many parks include picnic tables and fire rings, though spacing varies between locations. "The spots are huge and the peace and quiet is priceless. If you are anywhere near Toccoa, you have to stop here."

Navigation to mountain campgrounds requires careful planning, particularly for larger motorhomes. Several reviews mention GPS directions occasionally routing RVs down inappropriate county roads with steep grades or tight turns. Seasonal availability varies, with most parks open year-round but experiencing higher occupancy during fall foliage season. Pet policies differ between facilities—Currahee and Toccoa RV Parks allow pets, while Toccoa Falls College RV Park (restricted to students only) prohibits them. Cell service is generally reliable throughout the region, with reviewers noting good Verizon and AT&T coverage at Willow Valley RV Resort. Sanitary dump stations are limited, with only select parks offering this service, making advance planning essential for extended stays.

      Tugaloo State Park Campground

      Great Lake

This is a great campground. Lots of spacious campsites. Lots of choices. We were lakeside on a pull through that was a bit short for us. The site was amazing we could kayak up to our site. Pet friendly, family friendly. Power, Electric, gray water dumps near each site. Washer and dryer in each bathhouse. A beautiful campground.

      Shoal Creek Campground

Beautiful lake front AND lake view camping spots; friendly staff

This was our first RV camping experience -- testing out a new pop-up camper during a two (2) night stay. Reservations were made through Campspot -- about $120 with fees. Communication with the main number for the campground went through the Margaritaville Campground nearby. Separate direct lines to the camp office and security were provided after arrival. Overall communication was good with both, and the staff were always polite.

We skipped our first night reservation due to high winds. We had concerns about damaging the pop-up roof during first-time setup. We decided, instead, to visit the campsite we'd reserved and pick up our paperwork. Site 56 was our first choice, and we were NOT happy with it. I selected the wrong size on the Campspot website -- a 20' campsite. It was not big enough to park both the camper AND the tow vehicle, AND the camper would've been facing away from the lake anyway with water and electrical hookups.

The next morning, we called to arrange for a different site. The camp office was very accommodating and blocked off four (4) available sites to choose from. We moved to site 55, which was a large circular pull through. Probably too big for our pop-up camper, but also probably too close to trees for a larger trailer or even a 5th wheel. The campsite was large, with the picnic table, fire ring and sand pit away from the camper. There was lots of room to set up and enjoy the beautiful lake views.

Electric and water hookups worked just fine. The camp office lent a 50 amp to 30 amp adapter free of charge. We had no issues with either service. The showers and bathrooms were about 2-3 sites down and up the road from 55, and they were reasonably clean for what they were.

I WAS disappointed that the main gate was broken, and the key code locks on the showers and bathrooms were duct taped shut. However, I did not feel that the campground was all that insecure, and there did not appear to be a lot of traffic coming through. Security DID come through overnight on Sunday morning -- probably due to some noise at 1-2 of the campsites across the cove from ours. Things quieted down after. The camp host was cleaning bathrooms on Sunday morning, and he was very polite when we talked. I saw him regularly coming through to check on campsites and clean up.

Overall, we liked this campground and will be going back. I will likely request to scout out some different sites in person before selecting one, as I don't want to be in a position to have to give up my spot when it's very busy.

      Shady Grove Campground

      Great lakefront spot

We stayed at site #82 pull through. $30/night. 30' hybrid travel trailer. We will come back here again

      Pros:

      • easy to level trailer
      • excellent lakefront view (many of the sites have lakefront views)
      • private with plenty of tree cover
      • quiet
      • large site area
      • friendly gate person
      • good cell reception with t-mobile
      • clean restrooms
      • good water pressure

      Cons:

      • 30 amp issues on pole with EMS readings. 50 amp was fine

      Springfield - Hartwell Lake

Nice well kept Corp of Engineers campground

This is a typical Corp of Engineers campground, well kept with a variety of pull through and back-in sites.  Sites are 50/30/20 electric with water, picnic table and fire ring.  Many sites have a tent pad, are very level packed gravel/sand and well situated with very few having very close neighbors.  Shade is at a premium on some sites due to cutting of pine trees a couple of years ago but almost all are waterfront with an excellent view.  Some sites have direct access to the water allowing boats right at the site and swimming.  The swimming beach is very nice and well maintained as are the playgrounds.  Three bath houses are convenient to all loops, well maintained and clean.  Cell service is very good as is over the air TV with numerous channels available.  The dump station is easy in/out.  Sites 10 through 40 have awesome views of Lake Hartwell.

      Mile Creek County Park

My Favorite Campground in South Carolina

Having lived in South Carolina most my life, I haven't seen it all.. but have seen a lot of it. Mile Creek Campground is a string of 3 islands connect by narrow straights and surrounded by water. It's hard to get a spot here without great views of Lake Keowee and the Blueridge Mountains.

The spaces a are a mix of full concrete pads or gravel sites. We've stayed in several sites and while some are very close together (that RV park feeling), there are many which have lots of breathing room, and things feel more natural. The pics in this review are for site 51, which is on the "3rd island," which is the furthest out and offers the best views. This is a very level concrete spot and we only had to use the electric tongue jack on our trailer to level front to back. Got set up in under 5 minutes.

There is one oddity to some of the concrete sites. Because it's concrete, your fire pit is off to the side. And since most of the sites are raised, your fire pit may be level with the concrete pad, but you can't sit next to it as there is too much slope.

It's a county park and is well maintained. Bath houses are clean. With it having a public day use area with a nice boat dock, you can expect almost every morning @ 6am to hear the diehard fishing folks blasting out of the boat launch area.

We have Verizon and our cell signal has always been 4 to 5 bars on the outside third island.

All sites have 30amp electric and water hookups. Dump station at the front of campground entrance up on a hill. BE AWARE, pulling into the dump station is easy, but the steeper exit will have longer RV's and Trailers dragging their bag end on the asphalt.

We've always felt safe and relaxed here. And though we prefer more dispersed camping with less neighbors, this is still one of the best and most affordable ($25 in off season) places in South Carolina to camp.

We rarely give 5-stars, but due to the awesome views,  trees between the sites and being well wooded & surrounded by water... it really is a very nice place.

From what I can tell, all but two sites are back in. We had no problem backing in our 23'8" (total length) camper in.

      Mile Creek County Park

      A hidden gem!

This campground sets on a peninsula into Lake Keowee and offers gorgeous views of the lake and mountains in the distance.  While possible for big rigs, it can be a challenge in some areas.  The sites are mostly in the 30-35 foot range and most are back in, fairly level and offer 30/20 electric and water.  Picnic tables and fire rings are on the sites, but unfortunately most of the sites do not offer a lot of usable area around the site.  A few sites near the boat ramp are unparalleled in their view of the lake and mountains and reservation planning is a must if these are wanted.  Being far out in the country the cell service isn't so good and according to where you are even over the air TV is spotty.  A nice boat ramp and swimming beach are available, as are bath houses centrally located.  The camp store was closed due to Covid when we stayed, but there are kayak and canoe rentals.  The dump station was easily accessed and very clean. There are cabins, but we did not look at them.  All in all, this is a very nice campground for families or couples wanting a getaway.

      Tallulah Gorge State Park Campground

      Incredible place to hike

Took my boys after studying the 7 Natural wonders of GA and this gorge is one of them. Did not disappoint. The hike to the bottom is not for the faint of heart. And the steps back up will challenge the most fit among us. But the views and experience is well worth the pain. Campground while being big rig friendly is a little tight ( we have a 42ft motorhome). If your large try to book sites 34 or 35 pull through. No sewers, but easy to use dump station next to the exit. Make sure you add this stop to your Must see list

      Thousand Trails Carolina Landing

      Lake and Woods Campground

The campground itself is gorgeous, heavily wooded and lots of hills. It has great access to Lake Hartwell, and lots of sites. The sites are very close together throughout most of the park. The park also has lots of hills which can be a challenge for some RVs. There are also some very tight turns on these hills. Some campsites are level, some are very unlevel, there are lots of seasonal sites with built in porches making it very tight to get into the travelers spots that are mixed throughout the park.

When you enter the park make sure you stay to the left of the sign. We made the mistake of going straight our first time at this park and almost lost our 5th wheel at the turn around by the lake. If you miss the turn you are safer backing up to the entrance.

Cell Service: AT&T was minimal, T-Mobile was minimal.

Not all sites have sewer and there is a pump out service for a fee. They do have a dump station but it is not easy or ideal to move throughout the park once parked.

Each site had a picnic table, some had a fire ring. Some sites are full hook up, many do not have sewer at the site.

As of 2019 this park needed a lot of upgrades to the majority of the sites, such as fire rings, new picnic tables. The sides of the road were washing out from water run off. These were things also needed in 2018.

Amenities: Laundry Swimming Pool Dump Station Club House Pool Tables Lake Access (Lake Hartwell) Basketball Court Volleyball Playground Storage Lot Beach area Fishing

    Guide to Toccoa Falls

Campers seeking RV sites near Toccoa Falls, Georgia find diverse options at elevations ranging from 1,000 to 1,600 feet with moderate humidity throughout camping season. The region features a mix of mountain and valley terrain, creating varied camping conditions across different elevations. Several campgrounds require advance reservations during fall foliage season from mid-October through early November when temperatures typically range from 45°F to 65°F.

    What to do

Hiking Currahee Mountain: Located near Currahee RV Park, this historical trail offers a challenging 3-mile uphill trek. "Only issue with the site is that the sewer drain is much higher than the pad and camper. 5 mins from Currahee Mountain and 10 mins from downtown Toccoa."

Kayaking Lake Hartwell: Accessible within 20 minutes of Toccoa Falls. "Clean nearby lake, perfect for kayaking, paddle boarding, and boating. Plus it's near the wonderful Toccoa waterfall."

Explore Franklin, NC: Make a day trip to this mountain town about 45 minutes away. "You can easily go out for the night in Franklin and explore the rest of the beautiful area."

    What campers like

Creek-side sites: Several campgrounds offer premium water-adjacent camping. At Willow Valley RV Resort, "We stayed at site 63 which backs up to the creek and is paved. They have super fast WiFi so didn't need our tailgater and just used the smart TVs."

Spacious, level sites: Many campgrounds prioritize site quality. "Large sites. VERY reasonable rates. Best owners you could possibly ask for. Great restrooms and laundry room. Best internet anywhere around."

Cell service reliability: Working remotely is possible at most area campgrounds. "TMO 5g at home device works, can work remotely off their WiFi," notes one camper at Creekwood Resort.

    What you should know

Mountain driving challenges: Some campgrounds require navigating steep roads. "When you enter the park make sure you stay to the left of the sign. We made the mistake of going straight our first time at this park and almost lost our 5th wheel at the turn around by the lake."

Limited campfire options: Not all parks permit individual fires. At River Vista RV Park, "There are no fire rings at the campsites. If you need a fire to cook with and didn't bring your own there are a number of grills there that you can use."

Unlevel sites: Some parks have challenging terrain. "Our site was super unlevel. I felt unsafe with our fifth wheel's two left tires up in the air after auto-leveling. That was a first for us, and hope we never have to do that again."

    Tips for camping with families

Adult-only options: Some campgrounds cater exclusively to older visitors. "Great little campground just minutes from Helen GA. Super clean and quiet, ADULTS ONLY. Full hook ups, bath house and laundry room."

Seasonal activities: Fall foliage viewing peaks mid-October through early November. Thousand Trails Carolina Landing offers family-friendly amenities year-round: "Amenities: Laundry, Swimming Pool, Dump Station, Club House, Pool Tables, Lake Access, Basketball Court, Volleyball, Playground, Storage Lot, Beach area, Fishing."

Playground availability: Not all campgrounds maintain children's facilities. "The playground was closed off, and the pool closed at 4:30. Our hope was to spend some late afternoon time at the pool, but that didn't work out."

    Tips from RVers

Site selection strategy: For larger rigs, request specific sections. "We paid for what they called a Super Premium Pull Thru and it was anything but. Very narrow, no room to put anything out. No shade with afternoon sun on the passenger side of our Motorhome."

Site leveling issues: Bring additional leveling equipment. "The sites are very close together throughout most of the park. The park also has lots of hills which can be a challenge for some RVs. There are also some very tight turns on these hills."

Road noise considerations: At Sautee valley lakefront RV and tent campground and other sites near highways, select interior spots. "After being assured our lot along 246 would be quiet, I was quite disappointed and got poor sleep. Lots of road noise. Would not stay near 246 again."
