Best Cabin Camping near Omaha, GA

Florence Marina State Park Campground offers cabin accommodations within the natural setting of Omaha, Georgia. The cabins provide full hookups with electricity, water, and sewer connections, along with cable TV availability. "The bathhouse was centrally located and was spotless. It included an interior wash room and was heated which was appreciated on the chilly evenings," noted one visitor. Proximity to Providence Canyon State Park (approximately 9 miles away) makes these cabins a strategic base for hiking excursions.

The campgrounds typically fill quickly during holiday weekends and summer months, making advance reservations essential. While Florence Marina primarily attracts fishing enthusiasts, families appreciate the additional recreational amenities. A camper noted, "The park has a marina and boat ramp. I was able to put in my kayak and paddle around the lake. Swimming is not allowed due to the gators."

Most cabin rentals provide basic furnishings but require guests to bring their own linens, towels, and personal items. Limited shopping options exist in the immediate Omaha area, with Eufaula, Alabama (approximately 24 miles away) being the closest location for substantial grocery shopping. A small camp store at Florence Marina stocks fishing supplies and basic necessities. Visitors should plan to bring all food, cooking supplies, and specialized equipment, as one reviewer advised, "There isn't much, as far as shopping goes, in the area so grab your groceries before you arrive!"

Great views, near Roosevelt's Little White House and Warm Springs

Green forest on Pine Mountain, this campground is well laid out and has history.  Several projects done by the CCC.  40 miles of trails to hike/bike.  A CCC built pond where you can rent paddle boats or bring your own kayak or canoe.  Equestrian trail rides (and stable rentals) are available.  Water/power, fire pit, picnic tables on gravel sites with some pull thru.  Satellite tv can be received at some sites.  Showers/bathrooms with laundry facility at each.  And several trails to walk you dog.

Life size statue of FDR on Dowdell's Knob, where FDR would come to relax and take in the view over King's Gap.

Grocery store available in the town of Pine Mountain (about 15 minutes from campground).

Great base for area sight seeing:

Roosevelt's Little White House State Park

Warm Springs (where Roosevelt would go for the warm springs)

        In Columbus, GA:

    National Infantry on Fort Benning

    National Civil War Navy Museum

    Coca Cola Space Museum

Could Not Have Asked for Better

I am rather new to tent camping so I really appreciated the helpful folks running the camping area.  Each spot had electricity, water, great internet, picnic table and places to build a fire.  Each site is shielded from the next by trees.  Bathrooms and showers are used but clean.  Clear maps available for hiking or biking.  Nice lake with swimming and boating.  Pet friendly.  Could not have asked for more or better.

    Quiet State Park

Had a nice weekend at this small state park. The site was very clean with fire pit, picnic table, and full hook ups including cable. The fire pit had been cleaned out before we arrived which was a nice surprise. The bathhouse was centrally located and was spotless. It included an interior wash room and was heated which was appreciated on the chilly evenings. Plenty of hot water and good water pressure. Showers also had a separate changing area with plenty of shelves and hooks to keep clothes dry. Loved the recycling on site! The sites are pretty close to each other and because it’s located in a pine forest, there’s not much privacy but enough space to enjoy the patio. We’re glad we checked it out!

    Great State park and camping

We were on site 213 and 214. Beautiful wooded site lots of space between sites in this loop. Very short walk to lake. Loop 1 sites are lake front and lake view but more close together than we like. Sites pretty level and gravel. Concrete picnic table, fire ring and light pole with lots of room fir our dogs. Bathroom facilities were very clean, with showers and laundry. Placed well around the campground. Playground but not opened at this time. Lots of hiking trails, pool, can rent canoes and paddle boats on the lake. Dog friendly. Close to Calloway Gardens and little town of Pine Mountain.

    Outdoor recreation happy place!

We stayed at FDR state park for 4 nights and it was a beautiful park with great hosts and great campsites! Bath houses were well-maintained and sites not on top of each other like some other places. They have horseback riding stables and kayaks for rent (but COVID is not allowing rentals). We took our kayaks and used them in Lake Delanor. Our campsite was #312 and it accommodated our 22 ft camper well, had an additional large tent pad, a fire ring and picnic table. We were located next to a group pavilion which we utilized when the rains came down. For dog owners like us, a big green grassy area was located behind our site to walk our 4-legged kids. Totally enjoyable experience and would love to return to backcountry camp and do some trails.

Easy hike and Family orientated activities

Chewalca State park has more to offer than just hiking. There are several mountain bike trails of varying diffivulties. There is also paddle boating and kayaks available for the lake. Throughout the hike there are canopies and grills where families can hang out. The hike was easy and not very long. The trail loops around the a lake and brings you to a waterfall on the back side of the lake. The waterfall is easy accessible and you can get as close as you wish. The park is also pet friendly.

    Needs updates

Nice park, however needs some up dates. We visited during weekend, which is busy. Don’t want to complain, however “Barking Dogs” the whole time was a bit too much. That rule is not enforced by rangers. Not enough bathrooms, noticed yucky urine smells around campsites. (Peeing in the woods I suppose ). Sunday night-Monday morning, campground little more enjoyable, crowds and barking dogs vacated. However trash bins over flowing with mountain of trash.
WiFi unavailable and Antenna TV not available. Lots of shade, and pretty lake. Bathroom some what clean- one shower (?????). Our site not completely level, notice a lot of wash out gravel in other sites. For the price, I was disappointed with this park. It really could be a nice park with updates. Traveling in C Class.

    Tent site

Super well maintained tent sites. The tent footprint is elevated by railroad ties, preventing flooding and it made it very convenient to put my boots on in the morning. Established trash/food hang poles as well as picnic tables next to the fire ring with fold over grill capabilities.

A must stop on the way to the beach

This is a gem in south Alabama with the most perfect cold water to cool that Alabama heat. The cabins are more like FEMA trailers but they have some sort of AC. Consider yourself glamping Alabama style and you will be fine

Guide to Omaha

Florence Marina State Park Campground sits on the shores of Lake Walter F. George, located in southwestern Georgia at approximately 300 feet above sea level. Cabin rentals near Omaha, Georgia offer access to a 45,000-acre reservoir that stretches along the Georgia-Alabama border. Summer temperatures typically range from 75°F to 95°F with high humidity, making water activities particularly popular during warmer months.

What to do

Boat rentals at the marina: Visitors can rent fishing boats directly from Florence Marina to explore Lake Walter F. George. "This is a good fishing destination. Campground has a sandbox and playground but for a little more you can get a hotel room. Boat rentals available for fishing and close to the museum of wonder in seale, alabama," notes Anna R. from Florence Marina State Park Campground.

Kayaking on calm waters: The lake offers protected coves for paddlers seeking gentler waters. "Good place for boating, fishing and kayaking! The campground offers hookups, a table and grill. There is also a restroom and bathhouse that was very clean. It was a really pretty place!" shares Shea M. about her experience at Florence Marina.

Visit Providence Canyon: Often called "Georgia's Little Grand Canyon," Providence Canyon State Park sits approximately 9 miles from most cabin rentals in the area. "We stayed to go hiking over at Providence Canyon. It was a short ten minute drive. The staff and crew were all amazing, and sites easy with large pull thru access," reports Joe R. from his stay at Florence Marina.

What campers like

Wildlife viewing opportunities: The area's ecosystem supports diverse wildlife including alligators, waterfowl, and various fish species. "We had a good time in the park you can kayak or rent a little boat it was cheap. We rented a boat my husband fished and we drove around the lake. You can have a AL. or GA fishing license here the lake runs through both states. Lots of blooming Lilly's, big oaks with moss, shorebirds and gators," explains B M. from Florence Marina State Park Campground.

Spacious lakeside camping: Sites at nearby Lakepoint Resort State Park provide room for larger groups and direct water access. "Many campsites are directly on the lake. Very spacious lots. Not far to town," notes Phillip M. from Lakepoint Resort State Park Campground.

Historical attractions: The region includes significant archaeological sites. "The park is an important sacred site (I suggest visiting the mounds at sunrise), but also has great modern recreational opportunities, like kayaking, a small swimming beach and large picnic/pavilion areas, and a small fishing dock," shares Latika Y. about her experiences at Kolomoki Mounds State Park Campground.

What you should know

Gator safety requirements: Swimming is prohibited in many areas due to alligator populations. "This is a super campground with friendly hosts and fellow campers. Although I do not recommend going in July. It was HOT! No swimming, alligators. Sites are roomy and super level," warns Kim M. about her stay at Florence Marina.

Cell service limitations: Digital connectivity can be unpredictable in this rural area. "Cable service was accessible if you have a coax cord, cable was quite fuzzy on some channels. Cell service was extremely spotty so don't expect to get much in the way of cell or internet service here. Great place to camp and have lots of peace and quiet," advises Colleen from Florence Marina State Park Campground.

Weather considerations: Summer heat requires planning and heat management strategies. "We camped here for one night Jan.1, 2021. Fine for the night, nothing special. Staff are friendly and accommodating. However, the area is not inviting. Camping spaces are close together," notes Beverly M. from Lake Eufaula Campground.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Multiple play areas accommodate different age groups throughout the region. "Best place to camp if your planning to visit Providence Canyon. Campground is large with lots of amenities. The campground has a miniature golf course on site for a fun time with the kids. Bath house are clean and well kept," recommends Shelly F. from Florence Marina.

Educational opportunities: Combine recreation with learning at historical sites. "We love this park. There are only a few sites, so even if everything is booked there is not a crowded feeling. The pads are gravel, so if you are tent camping, it can be difficult to get stakes in. There are several easy hiking trails and the Native American mounds and museum add some interesting history to any camping trip," explains Benjamin R. from Kolomoki Mounds State Park Campground.

Seasonal planning: Consider shoulder seasons for more comfortable temperatures. "This was a fun campground enjoyed with others for the weekend. They have a lake with john boat rentals along with mini golf. There are signs posted to watch for gators. Omaha Brewery is only 5 miles away," shares Suzy E. about Florence Marina.

Tips from RVers

Site selection priorities: Not all sites offer equal amenities or privacy at regional campgrounds. "We stayed on site # 16 it has full hook up. The park was busy it was Halloween they have a haunted boat ride and a hayride. Great place to spend Halloween. It was decorated well and there was a fest going on we won a basket of goodies," explains B M. from Florence Marina State Park Campground.

Access considerations: Some parks offer better RV accommodation than others. "Stayed on a long pull-through site #9. Full hook-ups was a nice surprise. Sites are spacious, campground was full and it didn't feel crowded. Nice park to take a walk l, you can rent a boat and I hear there's some great fishing (I'm not a fisherman). Cell service can be challenging, T-mobile was only Edge service (remember that?) was able to stream video for my kids on AT&T and Verizon," advises Keith and Tia S. about their stay at Florence Marina.

Supply planning: Limited shopping requires advance provisioning. "This is a beautiful campground. Very wooded, beautiful pine trees. Camp sites are spacious. Drawback was that some sites had alot of water on them and in them. Lots of low lying areas in the park and some campsites so, during rain it's gets very wet and can have alot of standing water," cautions Colleen about Florence Marina.
