Best Campgrounds near Dry Branch, GA

Campgrounds near Dry Branch, Georgia provide a range of outdoor accommodations across Middle Georgia, with options spanning from lake-oriented recreation areas to rural RV parks. The region includes established sites like Claystone Park Campground on Lake Tobesofkee and Dames Ferry State Park Campground at Lake Juliette, both offering water-based recreation opportunities. Most developed campgrounds support both tent and RV camping, with several properties like Scenic Mountain RV Park also offering cabin rentals. Lake access represents a significant draw for campers visiting the area, with multiple Georgia Power-managed recreation areas providing waterfront camping experiences.

Access to camping areas varies seasonally, with most established campgrounds remaining open year-round, though some like Dames Ferry operate only from March through October. The central Georgia climate brings hot, humid summers and mild winters, making spring and fall particularly popular camping seasons. Campers should be prepared for summer thunderstorms and occasional severe weather. Many campgrounds require reservations, especially for waterfront sites during peak periods. Cell phone coverage can be limited at some locations, particularly those situated around lakes or in more remote areas. According to one visitor at High Falls State Park, "Cell phone internet is slim if at all even on Verizon. T-Mobile had trouble getting texts from this area."

Water recreation stands out as the primary attraction at many campgrounds in the Dry Branch area. Lake Tobesofkee, Lake Juliette, Lake Oconee, and the Ocmulgee River provide opportunities for boating, fishing, and swimming. Several visitors note the importance of selecting waterfront sites when available. A reviewer of Arrowhead Park mentioned that "We stayed in spot 42 right on the water. It was a great spot that was tucked away from the other campsites. All of the waterfront spots looked ideal!" Campers frequently mention the cleanliness of facilities at Georgia Power-managed campgrounds, with several reviews highlighting well-maintained bathhouses and common areas. The region's camping options balance proximity to Interstate 16 and I-75 with natural settings, making these campgrounds popular for both destination trips and overnight stops while traveling through Georgia.

    Whitewater Creek Park

    Quiet and Great value

This campground is a hidden little gem in Middle Georgia.

The only reason we only give it 4 stars is because you have to call for reservations and some of the pads could use some clean up.

But you can’t beat the price for full hookup sites at $35/night ($150/week)

Whitewater Creek is run by Macon county and only has one dedicated employee.

Most sites are more than spacious but double check your length when you book. A few of the sites are kind of short.

Just keep in mind this is NOT an RV resort it is a locally run campground.

    Hamburg State Park Campground

Nice quiet and in the middle of nowhere

We had been planning on staying at Hamburg for years and finally did. Great stay and a very quiet area. The large mill pond also known as Hamburg lake is great for canoeing of fishing. Many of the sites back onto the lake. Sites are level and the one we were in was only 30A power but had 2 30A plugs and breakers. Using the right adapter and we had more than the 50A to make everything happy. We had our canoe pulled up right behind the site and was able to paddle the whole pond in a couple hours. The Mill tour is great when they have it and up until covid the mill was a working one. We stayed Memorial day weekend 2025

    Southern Trails RV Resort

Every other Week for about a year

Welp I had some long monologue of all the greatness and it deleted… I hate this phone. Here are the highlights… Monica works the front office and sometimes you will get to meet her flirty little grandson Monty. I can still hear his little voice and mischievous smile “imma pinch you” She is awesome and I enjoyed talking to her. I do miss this place as it was my very first experience in a campground long term. There is not much to do in this almost deserted little town… the campground has on site laundry facilities open all hours… the stocked pond has some large bass and catfish plenty of ducks and might see some turtles. On the border of the grounds there are horse stables. An in ground pool and playground and a little putt putt course… It is so beautiful just to take in the peaceful atmosphere has to offer. Only thing is watching out for the fire ants and certain times of the year gnats are pretty rough and the nonatz will not help it should be called mo natz (a funny joke my husband said as he offered it to his friends so the gnats would swarm to his buddy from work

    Old Salem Park Campground

    NO ANTS

This is a very nice campgrounds the sites are well spaced an fairly level. My site was so level I didn't need leveling blocks.  I like having pea gravel in stead of dirt, it's so much cleaned after it rains. Georgia Power has gone to great lengths to get rid of the ants. We went prepared for a problem and there was no problem at our site. I talked with our neighbors and none of them had problems either. The bath house and the grounds were well maintained. Staff was friendly and out and about most of the day. The dump station has been upgraded and 2 new dump stations have been added for a total of 3 stations. I don't know if Star link or Satellite TV will work because of the tree cover, but my T-Mobile home internet worked great. Old Salem is on our list of campgrounds to return to. I hope your stay is as enjoyable as ours was.

    James Dykes Memorial Park Campsite

Great spot to catch some Zzz

Solid, well lit camp grounds. You could easily fit a dozen or more cars/tents here. I was alone most of the night. Would recommend if you're looking for a quiet place to camp/fish.

    Gold Lot Overnight Truck Parking

    Premier secure parking!

This was a fantastic place to park on I-75. It is a fenced and gated lot just off the interstate exit. It is well lit, safe and has easy access through a walking gate to the QT next door. Wide parking spots and free WI-FI. Even has a gazebo for picnics. Check this spot out! Easy to pay at the gate.

    Claystone Park Campground

    Very nice campground

The campground is very nice. The sites are shaded and very clean. It is easily accessible and easy to get around in. The swimming beach is okay. It is a sand beach which is clean and easy to access the water, but I would not necessarily say the water is very clean. It is definitely better than many of the other lakes we have seen in Georgia, though! I would recommend staying here if you need a spot in central Georgia

Guide to Dry Branch

Camping options near Dry Branch, Georgia range from small private RV parks to larger state-managed recreation areas, with most situated within a 30-minute drive. The region sits at approximately 400-500 feet elevation with camping areas typically positioned near water bodies or along Interstate corridors. Summer temperatures regularly exceed 90°F with high humidity, while spring and fall provide milder conditions for outdoor activities.

What to do

Fishing at Lake Juliette: Lake Juliette offers excellent fishing opportunities with restrictions that create a peaceful environment. "Great fishing," notes Freddy G. about Dames Ferry State Park Campground, adding that the "campground on shores of Lake Juliette" has "many of the sites are lake front." The 25-horsepower motor restriction keeps the lake quiet.

Paddle sports: Kayaking and paddleboarding are popular at several area lakes. Greg S. at Claystone Park Campground shares: "We enjoyed paddleboarding on the lake." Rentals are sometimes available seasonally, and personal watercraft can be launched from dedicated areas.

Mountain biking: The Arrowhead Park area features trails suitable for mountain biking with varying difficulty levels. The park includes "mountain bike trail, playground, boat ramps and camping," according to Barry W. Trail access is included with camping fees, and routes follow the lakeshore in some sections.

What campers like

Lake proximity: Waterfront sites are consistently rated as the most desirable camping locations. At Lake Juliette, Tiffany D. explains the appeal: "It's beautiful, quiet, and right on the water. Good restroom facilities and cute playground with covered pavilion." Sites along the water often book well in advance, especially during summer months.

Well-maintained facilities: Cleanliness ranks high in camper satisfaction across multiple parks. Justin R. at Claystone Park Campground emphasizes this repeatedly: "Clean clean clean" and adds that "quiet hours were respectfully observed, and all the amenities provided within our campsite were more than enough."

Affordable waterfront access: The region offers budget-friendly lake access compared to more commercial destinations. Chad H. describes Dames Ferry State Park Campground as "excellent lake side camping" with sites that made it "easy and convenient" to launch kayaks and swim directly from the campsite.

What you should know

Site limitations for tent campers: Some parks restrict tent camping in premium locations. At Arrowhead Park, Everette G. reports: "Tent campers are not allowed to rent ANY of the sites along the lake front." Additionally, the tent sites "are paved and at very extreme angles, with very sparse to no tree cover what so ever."

Road noise considerations: Traffic sound affects some camping areas, particularly those near highways. Jenny P. warns about High Falls State Park Campground: "The road noice in the far loop is horrible, all night long!! I didn't realize it was so close to the road! There are 18 wheelers for the nearby rock plant that run at all hours and they are loud!!"
